Will Tumblr's adult content ban send people back to real porn sites?

Tumblr was a mecca for all kinds of adult content, both amateur and professional. You could really find everything. But with the new adult content ban in place, it's driving a lot of people away from the site because really what else do they have to offer? Do you think people are going to find other sites similar to Tumblr to get their porn fix, or head back to porn tube sites and pay sites? Just a thought I had. I know I've definitely seen some people rallying to find Tumblr-esque pages instead of going back to the traditional porn route, so I don't know.

Wasn't the big appeal of Tumblr amateur content? I never really looked into it too much, but I imagine Reddit NSFW communities or maybe the PornHub creator pages will absorb that traffic pretty easily.

edit: I guess I should add that if I ever feel like browsing random user submitted porn I typically go to reddit, once you follow enough subreddits you like, the home page can be a pretty good place to find new interesting scenes, and there's a ton of amateur content as well. Tumblr always seemed less user friendly, but again never got into it too much. Edited on Dec 17, 2018, 10:51am

I don't pay any attention to a lot of internet platforms.
Never heard of Tumblir.
Never joined Twitter or Facebook or Snapchat or other what-ever-you call them.

I get my porn mainly from paysites.
Although I do look at porn tube sites sometimes.
Tube sites can give you an introduction to some good sites, I've found.

Honestly, I also expect this to happen. From what I'm reading online, this will probably happen. Tumblr content was mainly directed towards women/LGBTQA+ communities and usually softcore. The allure of Tumblr was that it was very inclusive and provided a different sort of variety of porn.

Users will probably migrate to Reddit where some of these communities already exist. However, the only problem I see with Reddit is that it's harder to navigate and find what exactly you're looking for.

In my opinion, losing Tumblr is a massive loss for the porn community.

I apologize to all of you. I ruined Tumblr. I am solely responsible for that. I discovered it one day and joined the next and then a day later they announced they were ending porn. It like no one wants to be behind me in the grocery store lineup because everything is going smooth until I get in line and then the person in front of me wants to pay with a third-party cheque and has no ID.

It happens ALL THE TIME.

So apologies...

Apology denied.

Yeah this is a shame but not really come as a surprise either, Tumblr had some really amazing super model erotic art blogs with amazing photography so its a sad day they choose to ditch nudity altogether. I never got my porn from Tumblr. I figured most of those blogging sites had some rules against hardcore porn in itself.

Maybe they are doing it to attract more advertisers. "Dogs think people are Gods. Cats don't as they know better." - Kedi (2016)

Didn't Apple ban them from the app store until they cleaned up some of the shadier communities?

I feel like I read an article from the verge or someone else how there were some Tumblr users that were posting photos that could have been revenge porn or underage nudes or something like that. If nothing else one thing about professionally produced porn is that everyone there is of legal age and willing.

I, for one, was a huge Tumblr porn fan. I ran two different porn blogs and I got to chat with a lot of cool dudes.

I think all of us who used Tumblr for porn are going to search out different sites that are similar. In my searches, nothing comes very close to the experience Tumblr provided, however.

I think "tube" sites like PornHub will get a boost from previous Tumblr users, but I doubt people will be signing up for paysites in droves. Part of the whole appeal of Tumblr was that it was free.

Fuck Tumblr for their decision to ban porn

I noticed after logging back into Tumblr recently that... not much has changed. If you share adult content you won't be searchable, but the content is still there on your blog. Even if your posts are flagged, they don't delete the post. Maybe everyone was freaking out prematurely? Obviously for people trying to run a successful adult-themed blog it poses issues since people can only access your blog with an account and it can't be searched, but for casual users, it doesn't seem too different.

GODDAMMIT! I just wrote a long comment about this and got logged out when I went to post it! Once you click submit and the login page reappears, the posting is gone! Damn that is annoying!

Tumblr does not compete with pay sites. They are a photo repository site. Other sites like Imgur will step in and take the traffic. Tumblr gets about 950 MILLION hits a MONTH so any new site that charges a nominal subscription fee, say, $20 a year, might do well filling this niche.

It's important to understand what Pornhub and pirate sites are to the pay sites. They are marketing. Pornhub is provided with custom, watermarked content from pay sites as a referral process. Pornhub gets referral fees from the people it directs to these sites. People also go to pirate sites, see watermarked content and go to the site and sign up. These sites are not threats to pay sites because they do not have an impact on pay subscriptions and often actually generate subscriptions with no referral fee involved. I, for one, go to a lot of free sites in search of new material and sites. The content at these sites is usually not high enough resolution to keep but I will follow a watermark to an actual site and occasionally sign up. Skippy

I was Tumblr-er for a while; ran two blogs.

For me, yeah, I'm definitely going back to pay-sites more than I used to, but I'm spending more time at PornHub and XHamster. Tumblr was nice because it was sort of a conversation about porn; sometimes you'd get people writing a bit of erotic fiction in response to your post, other times, you might get someone sharing an experience they had, or maybe sharing some practical tips about how to do . That kind of interaction was rare, but it was nice, I thought. Nothing else really has that.

I would imagine Yahoo groups are next to go. There are still a number worthwhile ones still active, amazingly enough, given how much Yahoo tried to kill them off.

Gee I never even thought to mention the name "pornhub" for fear I would be banned from here for life. Fact is not so much that the porn is free but the pay as you go porn sites have learned nothing from Pornhub's success. There is no porn site that I'm aware of that presents amateur porn of the type you find on the tube site. Many, although not all of the material marked as " home made " appears to include women who come over as ,well real. No heavy makeup, no phony scripts, no casting agents...just real women, and men, who might actually be " the girl net door " Please don't say " yes but site Net Video Girls is....I realize I'm generalizing here, but only a wee bit.
I'm not saying it's perfect...it lacks in quality to some degree, the ads are a pain, but it does harkin back to an age when porn first appeared on the net. I'm old enough to remember when " Homegrown Video" really was homegrown. Sites such as Dirty Debutante's paved the way for what later became "gonzo porn". In some ways, the homemade porn presented by Pornhub takes me back to the roots.
I must also say that "free" is not all bad. The price structure used in paid porn sites is insane! Yes I'll pay $30 bucks for a porn site I've never visited is worth the money. One hundred or so high quality, say two years worth of updates is worth it. But why pay for a three month membership? Why should I go back and pay the same additional membership unless say two years worth of upgrades is available. Are these webmasters so stupid that NOT one gives you a big break for brand loyalty? (Oh, and once and for all lets cut out the crap of "upsales" and opt out/in check boxes" As a former member I should get a huge discount! Well I've had my say..what say you?? It's happened to me several times over the years. Then I'll compose my long post in a word processor just in case it happens again. Then time passes ... I forget ...

Thanks for the reminder! And sorry, everyone, for going I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.
