Porn for the Blind

Just came across this new article and thought it was quite interesting and you guys might apreciate it.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8144793.stm

What do you guys think about porn for disabled people? Do you think some of the more mainstream large companies should dabble a little more (ie using disabled actors/actresses, audio erotica etc) and I'm not talking about as like a fetish but as a realistic thing ie female in wheelchair

Makes me wonder about prostitution for the blind. Is there any such thing where prostitution is legal? Maybe it wouldn't be that different, but I'd think a hooker who knew how to approach and satisfy a blind client might have some insight. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Well in Holland prostitution is legal. But to get on-topic, there was somewhat of an uproar here where handicapped people could get money from welfare to pay specifically for prostitutes. I'm not really sure how that all turned out tough.

Colm4, normally your English is quite good, better than a lot of native English speaking people on this web. But when you write that people on welfare in Holland were given money "to pay specifically for prostitutes", you are stating the money was intended to pay for prostitutes. Are you sure that's what you meant? What seems more likely is that the money was given to people on welfare, and those people used it to pay for prostitutes, which would be a different matter.

I don't know Holland very well. Is it likely people on welfare were given money so they could afford to pay for prostitutes? Is that what really happened?

Or is it that some of the people on welfare used part of the welfare money to pay for prostitutes, which is a different matter.

In the United States, people on welfare were given food stamps, which they used to buy cigarettes and liquor at grocery stores. I believe there was public uproar about that, and I think that ability to use food stamps to pay for cigarettes and liquor was stopped. Food stamps are a form of money that can be exchanged for food at grocery stores.

That's my impression of what happened with food stamps. But I don't really know the details.

The article, "Dirty Talk For Blind People", writes about an erotic audio site that markets itself to visually-impaired people.

Lud Romano, who runs the business, tries to improve upon the "bored housewife meets young pool cleaner" type plot and to aim for something that will appeal to more sophisticated tastes.

For those who worry about the exploitative nature of pornography, it might be reassuring to know that Mr Romano's actors keep their clothes on. Since the intended audience is visually impaired (including the blind), the audience doesn't realize the actors might be fully clothed.

But as a critic, I wonder if this is a type of false advertising. The actors are pretending to engage in sex for enjoyment (a form of porn, I believe), and yet they are faking it, because they keep their clothes on. For realism, shouldn't the actors be required to do the real thing, just like most porn actors do in most video clips?

False porn leaves a dirty taste in my mouth (and my hand). As men (and women), we should demand the real thing, not some fakey low-fat substitute.

It's just as I wrote it. But I must say the welfare here is somewhat different that in other places.
I only found a few dutch articles, but let's just say there are certain foundations that pay money to poor people. You can get money for example a broken washingmachine. And some cities have these plans that you can get money to pay for prostitutes.
Here's a dutch translated article that explains it somewhat: http://translate.google.com/translate?js...y_state0=&swap=1

Incredible Pass features a guy in many videos who has one leg amputated above the knee. Personally I find no interest in this at all and find it repulsive. I know I can get into some pretty dirty stuff but there are limits and exceptions. They also have a midget and a fairly large bellied black guy. Oh yes, it is my custom when ever I mention that site that I also reiterate my warning against this site and anyone who does business with them. They are so evil even the PU/TBP staff do not even want to link to them!

For a blind person I would think that the 1-900 numbers would be about the best thing aside from actual contact with someone. I have never called one of those but I understand that with the right person they can get pretty erotic. Isn't prostitution regulated to the point where taxes are collected on it? That is, if people get government money, and then spend it on prostitutes, doesn't the government get some of the money back through taxation?

Something similar in the U.S., though it hasn't caused much, if any, of an uproar, was when Pfizer offered seventy of its prescription drugs (including the little blue pill, Viagra) to customers who had recently lost their jobs. This is purely on the private side of things, since the specter of socialized medicine haunts many Americans, but still probably not the best thing for Pfizer or those who are unemployed. It seems like a good idea business wise, since you can attract as many customers to porn as possible, but limited outside of that intended customer base. It is sort of like fetish content, which more mainstream sites and companies deal with, but only on the side in order to bring in a few more customers.

As far as disabled porn for a disabled audience, it seems fine, especially if there are those who feel left out by more "regular porn" (that is, content made for viewers who are not audio or visually impaired in a significant way). I don't necessarily think it is discriminatory, at least not more so than porn already is -- audiences generally demand young, skinny, and sexy performers, which can be argued as discrimination against older, thicker, more average looking models.

Me personally, porn is a highly visual medium, and I am fortunate enough to enjoy it as such. In fact, some members have even mentioned how they turn off the sound in videos, or prefer photos because there is no sound, so audio porn is definitely not for them.

There is even a braille edition of "Playboy," and I think the Library of Congress is required to keep a copy on hand in order to be non-discriminatory (it is currently listed on the available magazines page for the Library of Congress' National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped). Isn't this an issue that all PU members should care deeply about? I mean, given the amount of porn we have aren't we all at risk of "going blind" from rubbin' the stump ;)
