The law can be tough on convicted criminals.

The law can be tough on convicted criminals.

Drake Bell was sentenced to 96 hours in jail after DUI plea.
This is his second conviction in the last 10 years.
96 hours translates into 4 days (if served consecutively).

With good behavior, he might be allowed out of jail even earlier, I'm thinking.

I live in LA county. The fine for running a red light is $490.
So an actor gets a 4-day jail term for drunk driving?

Of course, that doesn't count his probation period. But I've read that for other celebrities, the amount of jail time that is served can often be far less than what they are sentenced to serve.

But 4 days for drunk driving?
Ridiculous.

Drake Bell Sentenced to 96 Hours in Jail After DUI Plea

Us WeeklySeptember 3, 2016

Drake Bell was sentenced to 96 hours in jail for his second DUI conviction, according to TMZ.

The Drake & Josh alum, 30, reportedly took a plea deal and will serve time in the Los Angeles County Jail. He will also be placed on four years’ probation and must attend an alcohol education program, TMZ reported on Saturday, September 3.

Bell’s sentence for the December 2015 incident is mandatory under California state law as it is his second DUI conviction within a 10-year timeframe.

As previously reported, the “Found a Way” singer was arrested in Glendale, California, at 2:20 a.m. local time on December 21 on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to the Los Angeles Times, Bell was swerving his car and speeding after abruptly stopping at a red light. After a police officer pulled him over and smelled alcohol coming from the car, Bell reportedly failed a field sobriety test.

The Nickelodeon alum was reportedly previously arrested for DUI in San Diego in 2009. He was charged for the crime in 2010.

Bell is best known for playing Drake Parker opposite Josh Peck on Drake & Josh from 2004 to 2007. He also starred alongside Amanda Bynes on The Amanda Show from 1999 to 2001. In recent years, the star has been busy touring and promoting his third album, Ready Set Go!, which was released in April 2014.

I do remember the days when the cops would pull over a drunk driver and let him go as he promised to drive slowly. It happened to my father frequently.

Times have changed since then.

To be honest, I never heard of people getting any jail time (other than the drunk tank) for a first time DUI (unless they get into an accident or cause bodily harm).

I'm not a teetotaler.
But I drink alcohol rarely.
And almost never to where I would be considered legally drunk.
I'm not certain, but the last time I could have been considered legally drunk was like 40 years ago or more.
Drinking alcohol does not make me "happy" or "high".
Instead, it makes me sleepy.
And I don't like the taste of beer, wine, or most alcoholic drinks.
But I do buy a six-pack of beer every so often, why, I don't really know.
To do something different, I guess.
But a six-pack of beer can last me a month or two.

A six pack of beer could last me six years, more if I dont go a little crazy one weekend.

I am not a fan of drunks at all but I am also not a fan of obscenely long prison sentences either. For me personally 4 days in jail would be enough to keep me from doing just about anything. Of course this is not the case for everyone. There are times I am surprised I wasn't orphaned back then. The cops treated DUIs almost like a joke. At least now they are serious about them.

As for actors, many do get special treatment. I wouldn't exactly call Drake Bell an actor. That's pushing it. "Dogs think people are Gods. Cats don't as they know better." - Kedi (2016)

This is probably not a good example because a celebrity is involved and sadly it's common knowledge that they get some serious preferential treatment. It's to the point where the law is almost an arm of the entertainment industry.

If we were to do the same shit that celebrity do on a daily basis than I can guarantee you that we would quickly know what the inside of a prison cell looks like.

You want an example of how preferential see below:

On Feb 12, 2015, Emile Hirsch was charged with aggravated assault after getting into an altercation with Paramount executive Daniele Bernfeld on January 25, 2015, at the Tao Nightclub in Park City, Utah. On August 17, 2015, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and was sentenced to spend 15 days in jail, pay a $4,750 fine and perform 50 hours of community service.

Do you think you and I mere mortals would have gotten off that easily? I think not.

As for drunk driving. I think that once upon a time the police were a lot more lenient but there were significantly less cars on the road and by default less chances of people actually killing other people. That doesn't excuse anyone who did it because my father certainly did it. In fact I know for certain he did because the very same subject came up yesterday and let's just say that it was not a pretty picture. I'd add that he did multiple times and one of the reason why he probably never thought to stop doing it is because he knew the police wouldn't do much if they caught him. Long live the Brown Coats.
