star trek

When I am not watching porn, I watch a lot of Star Trek. I am sure some of you are also fans. If so, which series is your favorite and why?

While I have not gotten to watch the newer Enterprise series, I have watch all of the original, all of The Next generation, I am in the 6th season of Deep Space 9. Voyager has always been my favorite. The Next Generation is my second. I have been working on watching every episode of all the series in order.

I am a huge fan of the Borg episodes and the heavier battle episodes. I like Voyager because they are stuck in the middle of now where with no one to back them up. This was also the first series I started watching, which I am sure has something to do with it.

I do spend a large amount of time watching them too (don't worry, the porn is still downloading!) in the evenings. I have every season of every series on DVD.

Good forum topic Myaya. I love porn and warp speed! "For example, badandy400 has taken it upon himself to become the one man Library of Congress for porn with a collection that surely will be in Guinness Book of World Records some day." ~Toadsith~

My favorite is Enterprise. I see you haven't seen it yet and I think you won't be disappointed. The whole exploring thing is new and every experience is a real adventure. The third season is truly outstanding as it is basically one long continuous story like a movie. The action is great with a lot of effects. I didn't care for the acting of the actors who played Janeway and Tuvok. Somehow a black Vulcan seems too contrived and artificial. For a long time my favorite was The Next Generation. In order my favorites are Enterprise, Deep Space 9, which I think is often just brilliant, The Next Generation, Voyager, and last the original series. By the way, the first series was a new show when I was in college. I liked it in its time, but never considered it a great show. After many years, when The Next Generation came out I was blown away by how much better it was.

I thought the origonal was great, particularly now. When that show was made it was an invision of the future, and i believe it has in some ways shaped our current technology. One easy example is the communicators they used. A long range flip up walky-talky. Just like our current cell phones, hell they even flip out like the communicators did. Then look at the pads used later on, they work exactly like our current PDAs with WIFI.

The point is that I feel this show will greatly impact the future of humanity. The show has been very well put together uses so many real theories, some of which have recently been proven, years after being used on the show! Plus, the I would imagine that a good number of people in the technology industry grew up watching these show so guess what they are going to base their ideas on what things should look like off of? You guessed it, Star Trek. And i am fine this that!

I find it hard to believe that their is no other sentient life forms in the universe. Yes I think humans are special, but we are not THAT special. The question is, do they take a humanoid shape? They could be drastically different,or perhaps humanoid form in a universal evolutionary step thus we would certainly find others with a similar form (thus feel the need to go to war with them as well as the middle-east). :) "For example, badandy400 has taken it upon himself to become the one man Library of Congress for porn with a collection that surely will be in Guinness Book of World Records some day." ~Toadsith~

Big Startrek fan here too! I guess my favorite series is still TNG, though I like the later seasons of DS9 as well (when the Dominion is introduced).
Don't have Enterprise yet. Voyager is cool too but especially the first seasons it was too much Groundhog day for me. But I'm about halfway down that series and it's getting a bit better.

The comments you made about the technology were exactly right. I once saw a special on tv about this very same topic. I thought the plot lines were a bit simple in the first show, but lets face it, its still Star Trek. I liked the Dominion episodes of DS9 a lot, as well as the Borg episodes of TNG. One good thing about Enterprise is they have a really good enemy, the Xindi. They have a complex culture and their motivation for attacking Earth is also complex. No I am not giving away the plot as you find this out almost as soon as they are introduced. Another thing I enjoyed is that it shows how the Federation came to be formed.

I have never seen the Firefly or the series Battlestar Galactica that you mentioned. I did see the series of the same name in the 70's and thought it was just ok. What attracts you about the two you mentioned?

i have not watched any of those yet either, but I do have BattleStar Galactica. I seen it on TV a few times and thought it seemed interesting. I was planning to watch those right after I finish Enterprise, so probably in about 2 months or so.

Oh yeah WittyGuy...Voyager could take out the people from Galactica any day! :) There I contributed to the dog-pile WittyGuy asked for.

I also like Stargate. I have all of SG-1 and Atlantis, except obviously the season of Atlantis that was just aired. I have liked to wait until shows come out onto DVD before watching them. I am too impatient to wait week to week.

In defense of Voyager, it made sense for them to try to play things right. They were after all the first exposure of the Federation to countless different civilizations. If they had run through and just took what they needed they would have caused many future wars, besides Janeway pissed off the Borg plenty in the later seasons. These were my favorite episodes of all time by the way. By the end of the series I was hoping it would never end! But it did....

One thing I have frequently wondered, do aliens make porn? In video form anyway? Obviously they have their holodecks and such, what I would not give for one of those! Is every Porn User an incurable escapist? Is Porn the ultimate escape from stress and therefore attracts so many who enjoy escapist fare?

I enjoyed every version of Star Trek except for Deep Space 9 (which seemed too stationary for my taste). We are fanatics when it comes to Stargate SG-1. We have every episode and have watched them more than once over the years. We always marvel how the team steps through the Gate onto an alien planet and communicates without a problem in modern (North American) English with the "natives" who were dropped off as slaves thousands of years earlier.

Ah, well, just like in Porn you have to suspend disbelief once in a while in order to enjoy!

In a few episodes of DS9, Quark mentioned that there certainly are some 'interesting' holosuite programs.

Messmer. The idea of them speaking Earth languages is easily explained with the knowledge that they originated on Earth. The trouble is why do the speak English. It would be more sensible for them to speak Egyptian. Perhaps the "Gods" decided they like the English language better and forced most worlds to learn it. I guess that will have to settle my curiosity for now.

I like these type of shows because they allow us to imagine nearly anything. We can be anywhere at anytime. What true fan has not fantasized about commanding their own ship and battling evil aliens...and of course securing the huge breasted alien babe at the end!?!? I prefer the original series because while I was watching it. I was also receiving a Starfleet Academy education on subjects like racial tolerance, understanding the importance of others view points, the futility of war, and so many more subjects. Of course at the time I simply thought that the show was cool. The effects were cheesy, but the writing and acting (yes I believe that) is where the magic comes from.

Of all the others shows that have come since that one. The only one that is disapointment is: Enterprise. In many ways it has the same problems that afflict the 3 Star Wars prequel. You cannot invent a new storyline that conflicts with the one you have already told. you can't create a different past for your characters than the one you gave them in prior movies. Special effects alone cannot make a show or movie good. Long live the Brown Coats.

In the original Stargate movie they did have problems communicating with the natives but when the series came out I guess somebody decided that all the subtitles and all the interpreting would take away from the action (and I agree) so they settled on modern English, never mind the incongruity of it all. :-) At first I thought that maybe SG1 should be equipped with little electronic translators but that would have been just as far fetched seeing that the original Egyptian on each planet would have evolved in a different way. There were all kinds of inconsistencies throughout the whole series but I always closed my eyes to them and just enjoyed! Long live fantasy in Porn and SF!

I saw the original Star Trek series when it was playing on TV as a new series. That's the only Star Trek series I've seen. I was a big fan of the series at the time. Then, 20+ years later, I saw re-runs of the original series, and thought, "Jeez, why did I like this cheesy series so much when I first saw it?"

I also saw Firefly, and really enjoyed that. Did not mind any stupidities in the Firefly series, because the series was poking fun at itself, unlike the original Star Trek series which was supposed to be taken more seriously (for a science fiction series, except for a small amount of humor).

I have not heard of a new Star Gate, but I would love to see that. These are the type of shows I hope never end. What I think makes them nice now is that they can be made using a lot of CG that is actually convincing. My hope is that because they can make it look good with less work I hope that they do not look for shortcuts on the storyline.

What is amazing about the older series is that they did have decent effects for the time. Consider the work involved with making people slowly disappear while overlaying the transporter visual effect.

Only being 23 I obviously did not see most of the Star Treks as origonal. When watching the origonal series I had to take and episode or two to adjust to the look and style, but once I did I really enjoyed the series. I just really enjoy storylines that are more than one episode long. The original Star Trek series was before my time, I was born in the mid to late 70s. I do like Science Fiction, but the Star Trek series was doomed with me. I think the second series came out in the late 80s, I was playing baseball, football and studying martial arts at that time and was a huge video game fan, so I rarely if ever watched tv. I do remember going to see Star Wars when I was maybe 3 and then going to see Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, Swamp Thing and the Battlestar Galatica movie when I was a kid. I also have great memories of watching Lost in Space re-runs with my grandfather. Even now, I don't watch much tv. The only series' I have followed of any kind are Family Guy and Simpsons, and still spend more time playing video games than watching tv.

And my favorite show, my wife buys me the DVDs for birthdays, Christmas, etc.. is Mystery Science Theater 3000, since I do usually prefer humor over seriousness. Volume 3 being my favorite. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

Yes, in Star Trek, they all use Universal Translators, but it does annoy me that this isn't explained in SG1. Edited on Mar 17, 2009, 07:00am

But that's the attraction of shows like that, wittyguy. No guts and charred bodies. It's cartoon violence, just like most James Bond movies, and allows you to enjoy the action without being disturbed by all the gore. I don't look for emotionally draining (I swear this is the last season I watch "24"), I look for escape FROM the real violence seen on the daily newscasts.

I watched the original Battlestar Galactica and was saddened when it was cancelled. It was starting to get interesting. I don't really consider Battlestar 1980 has the same show since only Lorne Green was brought back. I was thrilled to read that they were remaking Battlestar Galactica but somewhere along the way they moved away from humans against machines and it became somekind of soap opera with pseudo religious concepts of death, life after death and some many other twisted shit.

There isn't another show in the last 10 yrs that I miss more than Firefly. I feel (Like all brown coats) that we were robbed of what could have been an amazing series. As much as I appreciate Fox for making many great Sci/fi series. I truly dislike their habit of not allowing them a chance to mature. You knew Firefly was doomed from the beginning when the first episode wasn't the pilot, and then the following episodes weren't told in sequence.

No one has mentioned Babylon 5. That was a great series. Each race had a well developed background. The acting was great. The effects were pretty good. That is one of the few series that made it to 5 yrs. That is rare for a sci-fi series.

Space above and beyond was another Fox series that could have been great but was never properly promoted. Long live the Brown Coats.

I'm an avid sci-fi fan. Choosing a favorite Star Trek series is a tough call. For me, it would be between the original series and TNG. As cheesy as the original series was I did enjoy the space-western feel of it and enjoyed many of the individual episodes.

TNG was a longer series and I watched it week to week in the 80's when it was a new series so I become more invested in the story. I think for those reason TNG edges out the original series for me.

Pat362, Babylon 5 rules!

I like the original ST series, and then TNG. I also like the movies. But I am pleased to see Babylon 5 given a mention. For me this is one of my favourite 3 TV series of all time. (The Avengers and The Prisoner being the other 2). I also thoroughly enjoyed the Lost In Space series, which I am old enough to have watched first time round. Doctor Who and Torchwood are great too. Even though I loved the Star Trek and TNG series, they could be a bit sanctimonious at times.

There's a spoof of Star Trek at Naked Movie (Muffia network). They call it Star Trix. Jayden Jaymes is in it playing a green painted alien. To tell the truth, it's the only scene that can be salvaged from that site. Will try to write a review later this week.

I feel bad about forgetting Doctor Who. I could be wrong but if I'm correct. This is the longest running sci-fi show of all time. The creator was a genius. By giving the main character the ability to regenerate. That is the ability, at a chosen time or when near death, for the Doctor to regenerate into another character. He is still the Doctor but looks different(obviously) and they also explain why he acts differently as well. You have an endless supply of actors to play the role and need never end the series when one actor is tired of the part or they want to change something. My favorite is still Tom Baker.

Lost in Space. That was a very good show. Who can forget these immortal words: Danger Will Robinson, Danger Will Robinson. Long live the Brown Coats.

Yeah loved it! I still use that phrase. Tom Baker is also one of my favourite Doctors. Maybe William Hartnell was my favourite, even though the special effects were so dodgy, but for its day it was remarkable. His acting overcame the badly painted sets.

How long did Doctor Who run? Are you counting the new series as a continuation? Stargate SG-1 racked up some years.

Yes, I include the new Doctor Who in my calculation. The Tardis is different on the inside, and the effect are much better. At the core it is still the Doctor, a companion and many of his old enemies.

Let's add Space 1999, UFO, Man from Atlantis and Red Dawrf.
I would love to see a remake of Space 1999. I thought the premise for that show was amazing. How about Space 2999.
The moon is now the reposostory of all nuclear misiles and bombs found on Earth. The nations of the world have finally decided that we do not need nuclear weapons and have created a space agency to manage these on the moon. The rest is predictable. Long live the Brown Coats.

I'm a little skeptical on counting the old and new Dr. Who series as one. That opens up a slippery slope of counting relaunches and spin offs in other series -- i.e. Do you count original BSG, Galactica 1980 & the new BSG series as one show? What about future spin offs?

The original Dr. Who did run 20-something years though so it deserves props for that!

Battlestar Galactica is a tough one. In many ways it's not anything like the original series except that they use many of the same names. At first it was a retelling of the original story, but that didn't last much past the first season. After that it went in a much different direction. I'm a geek at heart so the space battles were interesting but the character development started to get messy and hard to follow. It blured the line between the good guys and the bad guys and it is guilty of a new kind of affliction. The need to kill off many characters for dubious reasons. I grew up watching a lot of TV shows and the one thing that was common to most of them was a code that said: We will not kill our charaters. That isn't the case with many shows today. I would even say that it is more and more prevalent to watch a show and after a few years having one of the main character bumped off.

The reasons why I consider the new Doctor Who as simply a continuation of all the preceeding ones is that it is essentially the same show. You have a Time Lord and his companion traveling through time and space to try to save humanity from itself and its enemies. Long live the Brown Coats.

In Star Trek you always knew it was going to be the new guy who was going to be killed. Didn't they make fun of that in "Galaxy Quest?"

True, perhaps they have invented super condoms. You know, the kind that guys actually like to wear.

I remember an episode from Voyager were the captain noticed three of her crew that had never been on away missions and wanted to take them all on one. It is no damn wonder they avoided them like the plague. They were not stupid they just knew they were going to be wacked. After all, I believe on one or two occasions they say that some of Kirks missions are required reading that the academy.

Spock could have reamed any woman he wanted. All he would have to do is a mind meld with her and make her want it. Kinda like a Vulcan version of the date rape drug? I can not wait for either one. As long as it does not get every stupid I welcome the idea of a new show.

I have not ventured to the theater lately, but I may for the new Star Trek movie. It does look pretty good. I downloaded a HiDef trailer to my playstation and was impressed thus far. Anyway, I am going to go watch DS9 for a while now. They are running out of possible scenarios because if the premise of SGU(Stargate Universe) is humans trapped on a spaceship in a far away galaxy where they can't return to Earth then you have just described Stargate Atlantis but instead of a city/spaceship on a planet it's spaceship in outersapce. Who am I kidding. I'll still watch it. It's not like there is tons of sci-fi on TV at the moment. I believe this is Smallville last season and frankly I can't say that I will miss all that much. That show is going nowhere. How about they just start making movies with the actor. It would make a lot more sense then having a 30yrs old pretending to still be in his early 20's. Long live the Brown Coats.

There's talk of another star trek series, not sure what time period they are going to set it in but at least there's some hope out there.

I always wondered why they didn't do a Starfleet Academy series aimed at teens, it would have been huge. It could have done for Star Trek what Smallville did for Superman.

Anyway, here's the article

You may have to cut and paste for the link to work... http://www.SeriousMistressesForums.com Edited by Staff on Mar 24, 2009, 08:08am

I would not mind a new series. But I would rather it not be based previous to what has already been done. It is too easy for contradictions to arise. I think there is a market for Star Trek. I know that I would glady watch a new series. I think that before they get too far into any kind of negatiation. They have to choose a time line. Once you have that then come up with a premise that makes sense and does not contradict anything that came before it. That was my big beef with Voyager. They would have space battle after space battle but each week the ship was tip top. All the preceeding series required the ship to go back to space dock, but not Voyager. Enterprise was also doomed because they invented an history that none of us knew existed.

I know this will never happen, but frankly I would be super happy if they simply remade all of the original epsiodes. All they need is a great cast because the writing is already done.

I wonder who owns the franchise now that Gene and Majel are both deceased?
If it's possble to get access to Long live the Brown Coats.

Paramount own the rights to the movies and the series. I'm assuming that they probably own everything else considering they have covered the major licenses.

I hated Enterprise, I thought it was totally pointless even though I did like the casting of Sam Beckett.

As for remaking the original series, it depends on how the new movie fares. Personally I'm not looking forward to the new Star Trek movie, it's the cast, they look too young to crew a galaxy-faring starship. http://www.SeriousMistressesForums.com

The only Enterprise episodes that I liked were eothei those with the Andorians (Mostly because I think Jeffrey Combs is a genius like Bruce Campbell), and the ones from the alternate universe. It was pure joy to finally see a Constitution Class Starship, like I always wanted to see one, in action. The writing still was crapy, but at least it made sense.

The actors do look young, but then again Star Trek was suppose to be mostly crewed by 20yrs old. I will reserve judgement on the movie until after I've seen it. I just hope that it's good enough to kick start the franchise. Long live the Brown Coats.

One of my favorites is "The Squire of Gothos"- mainly because it has Venita Wolf in it- lovely blonde- who was in the July 1967 issue of Playboy, and also on the Beverly Hillbillies. She has VERY little web presence... but she was totally hot back then... she's worth googling and I would strongly recommend it :D Have a good one.

Star Trek as always had some beautiful women through out the different series. I agree that Venita was gorgeous but because the character of Trelane as always annoyed me then I've stayed away from watching that episode. I'll have to remedy that soon. Long live the Brown Coats.
