Are porn stars getting more respect?

Former president Bill Clinton has a new cheer squad. During a photo op at a gala in Monaco, Clinton was snapped with Brooklyn Lee and Tasha Reign. You might recognize them from a porn film near you. That's right. They are porn stars.

I am not sure about the "respected" part but they appear to be more accepted, or at least tolerated by Western Society. Or does it just appear that way to me since I move daily in PU circles?

Could be that the general public would still find a photo op like this shocking, unless they are French, of course!

1-Pornstars and Cannes go way back so seeing them is not unusual and in no way representative of them being more accepted. I remember seeing a lot of Private girls doing the Cannes circuit when Private was THE porn company.

2-Based on many comments I read on other forums than they definetly are not getting more respect. I'd be willing to say that they are actually getting less.

3-Is it a good idea for a public figue to be photographed alongside a porn perforwer then the answer is hell no and I'm sure Bill will find out as soon as Hilary can cool down. Otherwise the secret service are going to make sure that his brakes are not working at a time when he's going down a steep hill.

4-There may come a day when porn performers get more respect but it isn't anytime soon. Long live the Brown Coats.

To me, it seems common sense that porn is more available today, since the invention of the internet, and the low-cost access to photos and videos, than back in the 1970s and 1980s. And if you go further back in time, to the 1940s and 1950s, then videos (on film) were even more limited and expensive.

Porn stars certainly don't command the respect of a medical doctor or teacher, but they are today, around in much greater numbers than in the 1970s or 1980s. And the numbers of porn stars in the 1940s and 1950s would be even less.

That's my guess. No hard data to back this up. But it just seems reasonable. How many porn stars were there in the 1940s and 1950s? Compared to todays porn stars, or porn performers?

My feeling is that with the increased population of porn performers, it has become more socially acceptable. The scarlet letter of adultery does not carry the weight of social stigma as it did in the early 1900s. In the same manner, but to a lesser degree, a porn performer today does not carry the same stigma she would have had back in the 1960s or earlier.

It's not a simple subject, but the ongoing sexual revolution has made many forms of behavior more acceptable. Having sex without being married, having children without being married, divorce, being gay or lesbian, and being in porn, are, in general, more acceptable today than they were in the 1950s and 1960s.

I haven't read a lot of forums on porn or porn performers. But my guess is that you get all kinds of posters to those forums. And I don't know what conclusions you can draw from them, other than to say that human nature/psychology varies widely.

I mean, for example, you find people criticizing, in a mean way, YouTube videos of popular musicians. People spewing filth, because the internet gives them anonymity.

I respect them. Why not? Somebody got a problem with that? I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Not that huffpo is the most accurate source for news, but it doesn't really sound like he knew who there were (or pretended he didn't). The more shocking thing in that article was that the owner of Penthouse is a Romney guy, not that anything will save that place, but still kind of odd.

Either way, its Bill Clinton, all he was thinking is "that's right, I'm Bill Fucking Clinton"...

Oh, and good to see you back messmer. Bunny Lebowski: I'll suck your cock for a thousand dollars.
Brandt: Ah hahahahaha! Wonderful woman. We're all, we're all very fond of her. Very free-spirited.

Those times with respect are gone. I remember when former big stars like Silvia Saint or Nikita Denise were some sort of celebrities, but pornstars nowadays ?

Not sure if they're getting more respect (in the true sense of the word). However, they - as well as porn in general - are getting more acceptance. In my country, pornstars and ex-pornstars are occasionally appearing in the mainstram media such as game shows or yellow press.
According to a social study I read about a year ago, the kids today are treating pornstars like some sort of role models, including celebrity cult and everything. So that might be the trend for the upcoming generations.

It is hard to answer because the question is a bit ambiguous. Respect them, in what sense?

Respect them as human beings?

Respect them because of their choice of profession?

It is hard to respect someone I don't know personally so I cannot answer this question. I don't really respect people because what they do for work or do in the bedroom. Some people are assholes, some people are not. Respect is something earned, not something granted or taken away by default. Do I respect Movie Stars, NFL Players, or the guy who delivers the paper in the morning? I don't know. I never met them on a personal level.

As far as a general statatement, I would be inclined to think that those who have are offended by pornography will likely hold no respect towards those who produce it and engage in it. In general, however, I don't think people give it much thought and are pretty neutral on the subject. If they were polled, their answer would likely align with their moral sentiments towards pornography in general, as stated above.

^I think I can partially answer your question in regardss to the expression respect when it comes to talking about porn performers. There is a percentage of people that post in the different porn forums who have a very very low opinion of porn performers and the language they use to describe them is proof of that. Calling a girl that does porn a whore, slut and worse is not a sign of respect and these guys aren't right wing anti-porn people either but guys that watch these girls have sex on video.

I agree that respect is something you earn but every single human being is born with a certain level of respect and unless they cross a line then they should be afforded that respect. Don't use language to describe someone on a forum where people can't see you that you wouldn't use to the persons face. Long live the Brown Coats.

There's still too much of a stigma attached to being in porn, so I'd hesitate to say the profession is earning more respect. It's unfortunate, really, because plenty of women in the sex trade business work awfully hard for a living, yet they're subjected to all sorts of harassment and abuse.

I think what's popular in porn circles often involves the degradation of women, so even men who enjoy adult stuff -- that is, those you'd expect to be supportive of female performers -- get off on seeing women used.

Nope, I think you are pretty spot on. Degradation of women is pretty in-vogue in mainstream porn right now. Consequently, that doesn't really aid pornographic performers in earning respect. In fact, a lot of the performers that have earned a bit of respect outside the industry predate that shift in style - Nina Hartley for example.

I presume that there will be another shift soon and the mainstream style will change again, hopefully toward something less focused on degradation.

That is not to say that degradation porn will disappear completely, but that is the point of labeling things fetishes. With the rise of the internet, now every fetish has its voice. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Just about every other seen I watch hardcore is women being treated like meat. Some rough stuff almost appear to be rape, if I knew it was not a paid actress. I have seen some that is aggressive and near violent. Sure its part of the scene. But if you want respect , well then. Perhaps holding a girl down ramming it in her ass why she is face down in the grass, then humping her face until she gags and almost vomits. Then decided to do it all over again.
Well then how do they expect the audience to respect the stars when sites will d what ever it takes. In reality we like our porn, but do not want to know the reality of porn, that makes it not very fun for us, to think about the porn star having to put hydrocortisone creme on her Anus from the swelling and irritation . After all she seemed to enjoy that pipe thrusting in her ass.

Respectful? I respect what they must go through to give us 20 minutes of porn. I respect they work harder then anyone other the a Crab Fishermen and just about as dangerous. But will they get society respect, doubtful will ever happen. Since 2007

They have my respect. I wish I had the balls (pun somewhat intended) to fuck on film - and get paid for getting laid while doing it! Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.
