Zivity.com - thoughts? Has anyone heard of Zivity.com? I'm not sure what to make of it. They pass themselves off as more a modeling website, but with many of the models nude. Plus, you have to pay a monthly fee to get in. What's interesting is that they accept PayPay as a form of payment, which is something PayPal doesn't allow on a "porn" site. Plus, the models don't even get paid unless member "vote" for them. Sounds like a great idea for starting a nude site if you have no investment money (LOL)... other than that... Thoughts?...

Well, the guy who founded it, Scott Bannister, made 800 million selling his anti-spam company to Cisco, so this site wasn't exactly started on a shoestring. It seems to me to be more of a topless glamour site than a porn site and I guess that's how they got Paypal to buy in. Plus the guy is pretty darned persuasive. They're trying to sell this as a social networking site with topless nudity. They don't sell ads, or user information, so that's an advantage they have over Facebook, et al. I'm not sure how long this will last, but they claim to have 50,000 members. Not bad for a topless site.

I believe paypal is relaxing the "no porn" standard. I do not think they are to the point of wanting to be on porn sites yet, but they do now allow adult items on ebay to be paid for. Previously they did not do that even. Likely this site is using them without paypal's actual knowledge of what exactly is being sold. Give it time and it might be changed. "For example, badandy400 has taken it upon himself to become the one man Library of Congress for porn with a collection that surely will be in Guinness Book of World Records some day." ~Toadsith~ PU Interview

From what I've heard from people that did business accepting Paypal as a form of payment, they're taking an awful risk. Paypal has been known to freeze accounts (and funds) at the drop of a hat if they feel that the seller is breaking their rules.

As a matter of interest, would there be any risk to the purchaser's Paypal acccount? Cap'n. Not based on any experience with the potential problem, but I believe it's extremely doubtful that Paypal would take any action at all against the purchaser's Paypal account. Paypal is in business to make money, and it is not going to alienate a large number of "innocent" account holders because Paypal is taking action against a specific account holder because that account holder supposedly violated the Paypal terms of usage. I believe it's stupid for Paypal to refuse business because a purchase somehow involves porn (or what Paypal considers to be porn). But for Paypal to penalize a large number of customers without a solid reason, would be beyond its regular stupidity.

You can get softcore porn through the Paypal shopping site, so I doubt that they'd have a problem with this. https://www.paypal-shopping.com/find-products.html?findtext=playboy+video&submitBtn.x=0&submitBtn.y=0

The reason Paypal doesn't (or didn't, as the case may be) allow people to purchase porn is because porn has the highest percentage of chargebacks of any type of online service. By a lot. And as the payment processor, they lose money on chargebacks, so they just decided they didn't want to deal with it.

Thanks for the explanation of why Paypal doesn't allow it to be used to buy porn. My only direct experience with that was a few years ago, when I bought some Playboy and Penthouse magazine back issues (from the 1970s) on ebay. I could not use Paypal to pay for the purchases, because the sellers told me that Paypal could not be used because old issues of Playboy and Penthouse were considered porn. I thought it was foolish of Paypal to turn away business. But I can understand that if porn has a high percentage of chargebacks, it makes business sense to avoid porn. I personally doubt that old magazine copies of Playboy and Penthouse are porn, but I realize there are people who do consider that as porn. So I mailed a check for payment, instead of using Paypal. Paypal would have been easier, but it was not available. End of story. Edited on Jul 28, 2010, 11:56pm

I find this thread very interesting for both the PayPal information (thanks for sharing, guys!) and the info about Zivity. Does anyone know how Zivity able to attract so many members to a topless modeling site? And then why are they not able to make any money with so many members? I love the social networking pitch, but I am not sure i understand the reality. Kat SoCalGlamourGirls.com

how do you know they aren't making any money? And I think the whole "social networking" aspect is how they attract so many members. It's basically paying a monthly fee to talk to hot topless models. Imagine if it were a fully nude site... But, then again, that's more or less what SuicideGirls and GodsGirls is... I really think I'm in the wrong line of work *SIGH*. I'd love to start my own "zivity" someday... Keep on dreamin'.
