Settings & Locations. How important are they to you? Obviously the main focus of attention should be on the models, but how important are the setting & props? For me, whilst I do like a nice formal or homely setting, sometimes a sparse set with a plain backdrop can be quite effective. As regards outdoor locations, unless carefully selected, they can seriously compromise what the model is prepared to do, and that can drive the flow of the work. What do you reckon? :0) Admiral of the PU Hindenburg. 2009 PU Award Hilarious Post of the Year 2010 PU Award ( I would have preferred it to be Helpful Post of the Year for Guys who Hate 'Retail Therapy' ) :0/ Sanity is in the eye of the Beholder!

There's an earlier thread you may want to catch. It's not the same discussion but it is somewhat related to this topic ... Indoor/outdoor Former PornUsers Senior Administrator Now at: MyPorn.com "To get your ideas across use small words, big ideas, and short sentences."-John Henry Patterson

Setting is as important as performer selection. Lets face it, a great looking woman loses some of her affect in a trashy setting and an average woman gains appeal when in a nice setting. I want the setting to be clean, uncluttered, well lit, and free from external noise. A video (or a photoshoot) is a total experience. Yes, the model is the centerpiece, but how she is presented can make a huge difference in how erotic or alluring the video/photoshoot turns out to be. Setting is one factor (really, many separate factors), also lighting, costumes, model's attitude, soundtrack, intrusive background noises, etc. etc. Regarding outdoor locations, I don't get much of a thrill from models appearing nude in public places, and the photography/videography for those public nude shots is usually sub-par compared to private shoots. Outdoor private shoots can be hit or miss. An indoor shoot usually gives better results. The lighting is better, the skin tones are usually better (due to the lighting, I would assume), the photographer is usually able to better center the picture around the model, instead of having a branch or leaves cutting in front of the model, etc. I'm not saying all outdoor shoots are bad, but the video and photoshoot are usually more visually appealing when the model is in a house or studio setting, because you have control over the environment. If you can get Toadsith to answer this topic, he could easily give a technical and comprehensive answer, because he has a strong photo background. But he seems to have wandered off with other interests lately.

Toadsith was eaten by one of the Drool/Denner dogs. Only today did I realize Cybertoad was still around. One advantage to shooting indoors is the lighting can be a little more consistent because it is artificial. They can have more control over it. Public shoot are always going to lower quality because they are on the fly. The idea there is to portray the risk factor and make the view feel like they could be caught at any moment. Just has to be your thing to appreciate it. Outdoor shoots can be nice in very natural settings, like the countryside or the tropics where there are lots of colors and natural sounds. A more urban or suburban environment can be a mood killer: sirens, lawn equipment, dogs barking...the list goes on. But there's nothing like a good girl-girl scene shoot outdoors with only the lightest breeze in the background, a few birds singing, and some healthy looking plants. Lighting an outdoor scene is the main issue. Nothing can come close to the power of the sun (hell, it helps heat the planet), but it can cause very uneven lighting; harsh natural light overhead, heavy shadows underneath. Plus models end up squinting, can get sunburned, and then there are clouds. If it is a soft-core scene with lots of wide shots, then an outdoor shoot can be great, but hardcore usually involves lots of closeups that rely on strong, even, all-revealing lighting. It's certainly not impossible to do, but it takes more work than indoor shooting. It's not all bad though. Indoors can get boring after a while, and how much can your really Scotchgard a sofa or love seat anyway? 'Mess up' outdoors and I doubt it is anything a hose with a good nozzle cannot fix. The only scenes that don't seem to work outdoors are S/M or bondage, which usually seem to require a basement or dark warehouse setting. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? The setting is important yes, but for me less important than the actors. Scenes can be great in a "bad" settings like a boring bedroom or a dirty cellar if the actors are good and horny. Thats my oppinion.

BadAndy said it good! I even like the white studio sets, such as those at VirtuaGirlHD, which have next to nothin' goin' on 'cept the girl. It's like you've arrived in heaven. And the jpg file sizes are smaller, too, with less to compress. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I saw a video once where a lass is stripping off in what looks like a store room of some kind... Took me a few viewings to notice mind you. And of course there's the fact that the busier the background, the bigger the file size. Still having said that I wouldn't enjoy seeing a lassie strip off in a public toilets or something. www.rockchicksandbikerbabes.co.uk
