Which IN Browser do others use?

Which internet browser do people like to use? I have tried explorer and firefox, but so far I have found opera the best, as it gives best control over picture size.
What do others use?

I'm probably one of the last people still using Netscape. Firefox keeps on crashing for me and for some reason, I don't like Explorer.

After reading replies to a fairly recent poll on the subject, I realized how unhip I was using Internet Explorer. But fuck it, it works fine for me most of the time.

But not always. Every long once in a while large pics from certain sites will open as MB-devouring .bmp files. One helpful chap around here told me that Firefox doesn't have that problem, and he was right! So I keep Firefox handy for that.

Sure, I could use Firefox for everything, but I have just never gotten around to it. It's my bad. Firefox does seem to download faster than IE. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

There are quite a few Firefox (FF) extensions that allow you to do various things with images right on the browser.
I personally can zoom, spin, or view certain parts of a big picture instead of entire images. You just gotta find the right extensions.

And as you have probably guessed I use FF. 3.0.5, an alpha, Portable, and Stealth versions.

Don't feel bad because I have both browsers and I keep going back to IE. I must say that Firefox allows for faster downloads and more of them. I will normally use it for downloading from a site while I surf with IE. Long live the Brown Coats.

I use Firefox. I love the add ons, like build in download manager DownThemAll. Or the way you can change the look of it with a theme. I a *huge* multi tasker so I love the tabs option. For example when I'm surving a gallery, I'll right click and open the image in a new tab. That way I don't have to look at a image and click the back button and then repeat for every image.

I know IE now has tabs but I'm too used to Firefox now. As for image size, I never have noticed a problem with FF.

I use Firefox almost exclusively because it gives me the greatest degree of privacy. I can set it to delete all cookies and browsing history and temporary internet files after I close the browser and will still keep my passwords for porn sites which are protected by a master password. IE, in private browsing deletes everything and forces you to use a separate program to remember passwords. Netscape 8 was good for privacy as well, so is Sea Monkey if you've never tried it.

I used to be a hardcore Internet Explorer user, but my habits forced me over to FireFox. By that I mean that I would routinely visit sites where I would like to open 10-20 tabs at a time (or during IE6 days, 10-20 windows at a time with CTRL-N), and if you never close your browser and keep opening windows Internet Explorer would eventually achieve a ridiculous RAM use (thanks to a RAM leak) and would fail to work at some point, forcing me to kill the process. FireFox does not experience this problem.

I've been using Firefox since the first releases of it a few years back. Had been using Mozilla before they came out with Firefox. I did have some pretty frustrating problems with Firefox lately. I kept getting the "Firefox is already open" error. I finally had had enough. I had bought a new 1 TB Iomega external drive and moved everything from my main hard drive to it. Reset my computer to the factory settings and sure enough, that fixed that problem and the others too. I like Opera and use it sometimes at work. And really, I don't think using IE is that bad, especially with the newer versions of it. I've tried the IE 8 beta out and it works really good. Plus, as some of you may know, there are tests out there that say IE is as secure if not more secure than Firefox is.

Haven't had much luck with Google Chrome yet. The one I downloaded doesn't seem to have a way to turn on flash, so I can't even watch youtube videos on it. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

That's happened to me a few times too.
Just open your task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and shut the process.

I don't think FF is as good as it once was.

Like Drooler I've also been a surfing Luddite and primarily use Explorer (or "Exploder" as the anti MS crowd calls it). However, since I'm more of a pic person and reading all of the stuff that Firefox lets you do I think it's time to give that a try, especially with those damn .bmp files. Thanks for all the little tips here.

I have been using Firefox for a long while now. It has served me well, except for the new version. It seems to not be compatible with my download manager and I had to revert back to an older version. I use Opera as my main browser as it has everything I need and is so easy to use.

The only down point is some sites won't let me use Opera like some webmails sites, online banking, streaming vids (from news sites) also can be a problem however Opera is getting better.

I use Firefox where I can't use Opera but hate FF as I always seem to be downloading updates for the few add-ons that I need.

Okay, let me ask all those who do NOT use FF: Is there any way of browsing privately without having your browser wipe out your passwords as well?

The way it works with me is like this: I have iGoogle set as my home page, keep all my porn sites under the iGoogle bookmarks and keep iGoogle itself inaccessible to others through a master password. This way if others (grandchildren) should use Firefox all they get is the basic iGoogle without all my bookmarks because they would have to sign in first with a password. It doesn't stop them from using my browser and I have the peace of mind of knowing that they won't be able to stray into my areas of interest. :-) Is there any feature in Internet Explorer or Opera that would allow me to duplicate this?

I like Firefox with DownThemAll! It's really a great combo, interesting to read here that others have had trouble with it. I'm very comfortable with this combo, so much so I haven't felt the need to go with anything else.

I use primarily Firefox for video downloads. Their DL manager, DownThemAll, is compatible with more video sites than other DL Mgrs I've used. It speeds up the DL and allows for full control of the number of DLs you want.
I do not use Firefox if I want to DL photos though because it will actually slow down that process. I use Internet Explorer for that, as it allows for instant DL of the photo to the drive.
After reading these replies, I think I need to try out a couple of other browsers. Thanks for the help.

Just a small comment about using less well known browsers is that if you use a browser like Maxthon (possibly Opera but it is getting more well known especially as it is on some smartphones) or another less well known browser then if people use your computer they probably won't use it (preferring to use the big FF,IE)
My gf has never clocked on to it.

Firefox all the way - but the latest versions are too buggy. You can pick up older versions at oldversion dot com

And I'm very curious what control Opera gives you over picture size that other browsers don't. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

Two things to add here. First, I note that Internet Exploder 8 is now out. I switch between IE and Mozilla for browsers. IE 8 is now listed on my update schedule from Microcrap. Just wondering if anyone has had any negatives with version 8 so far.

Second, I saw that Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 is available for test. One of the supposed features of that is a "porn" setting. OK, really, it's a privacy setting that supposedly has lots of features on it. The new Firefox is also supposed to be faster than the 3.0 version. Again, just wondering if anyone has taken a gander at this one.

No Colm4 - this users still go for Netscape too - for my porn - for one simpel reason: It's easy to watch pornvideos WHILE downloading. And if it looks like shit, you do not have to wait for the entire thing to download - but just shut down and move on.....

For all other than porn - it's Firefox. IE sucks. "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle" Edited on Apr 28, 2009, 02:37pm

I am a firefox fan as well. I usually avoid IE when I can. I remember using Netscape back in the day. It has been a long time though.

The one problem I have with firefox is it uses a ridiculous amount of memory. I have tried the tweaks and the do not seem to change this, and when I look to see what other people have changed in the about:config they are showing things that do not show up in mine even though I use the same version? Any thoughts? Seems as though both Wittyguy and myself have made the switch to Firefox since this thread got started.

I've been happy with the speed of Firefox, plus the add-on DownLoadThemAll, which has made a few zip-'fraidy sites reasonably exploitable. Still, it's not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with it overall.

Still have a computer with IE6 on it, which I find easier to work with for sure than IE7 -- that was a bitch to configure and make sense of, but it's still there in case I need it.

One thing about switching browsers is that banking sites and such have to be "taught" that you're not an identity thief. Keep the answers to those questions about your favorite color and high school name handy! I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Firefox and very occasionally IE.

My webguy uses them all (case of having to) and he recommends I use Firefox. I used it before I teamed up with him anyway. www.rockchicksandbikerbabes.co.uk

Drooler could you please explain to this dummy how a download of a non-zipped picture set is possible with DownThemAll? I subscribe to ONE site that has non-zipped sets of one of my favorite models and I'll be darned if I know how to get them. The set is laid out neatly with small icons of the individual pictures but I have no idea how to set-up DownThemAll so that it will grab the whole set. It always ends up downloading one picture and I can't see a way of selecting them all. Please help a hopeless non-techie and don't think harshly of me! :-)

Messmer, I remember your confessing to being "unfaithful" to the PU site some time ago, but I've long since forgiven you. ;)

Actually, at Aziani, I recently had the same problem you describe. That site HAS zips, but they'd not put in a zip file for one set of Nikki Benz. I suppose they just forgot. I couldn't get it to work with DownLoadThemAll (DLTA). Wound up cherry picking the whole thing -- using their slide show option to make things (and my fingers) move quickly.

One problem could be frames. A frame is, in effect, an html page. Some sites will have 2 or more frames (different pages) on display together in a browser window. If you think that's the case, click in some dead spot in the frame that has the thumbs before starting DLTA. That might have been my problem with the Nikki Benz set. I can't guarantee it will work, but it's worth a try.

Also, in the "filters" part of the DLTA window, make sure that JPEG images is checked and nothing else is. (Nearly all pics of babes are JPEGs.)

Another site that doesn't let you DLTA is Rigin-Studio because each thumb links directly to another page (not an image file) which in turn links to an INDIVIDUAL enlargement. That's been thwarting my DLTA fun there. It sucks.

Maybe some other people here with real savvy can enlighten us both on how to overcome these problems. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

How to download a non-zipped photo set:

HTTrack [1] is one impressive product: it's easy to use, has an excellent user interface, offers every feature you could want, while being blindingly fast and free of any adware. If you like to download web sites so that you can "browse them offline", this is the product to get. HTTrack is compatible with all windows versions, and is GPL licensed freeware. WinHTTrack is the Windows release of HTTrack, and WebHTTrack is the Linux release. There are no official binaries supplied for the Mac OS, but the FAQ list details on how they can be compiled from the original source files.

Alternatively, there is the free edition of PageNest [2], which allows you to download and categorize websites, as well as browse them within the programs own viewer. PageNest can also show what new or updated content has added to an archived website. The Pro version of PageNest, among other things, adds the ability to schedule auto-updates to archived sites.

To get pagenest:

I haven't tried either program, but they are supposed to be easy to use and have gotten nice reviews.

Both programs are free, which is a lot better than spending $40 like I did for BlackWidow. And BlackWidow is not perfect, because I've had problems downloading some sites/photo sets with BlackWidow. Edited on Apr 30, 2009, 02:02pm

You can download a single picture set with BlackWidow.

I have not used the other 2 site ripper programs, but I am almost positive you can download a single picture set with either program, without downloading the entire site.

For BlackWidow, you paste the URL of the page with the photo set with the thumbnails, that you want to download.

It almost certainly works the same for the other two software rippers.

When I have the time, I will download each of the other two rippers, and try them out. But you should be able to use either one of them to download single unzipped picture sets, without having to download the entire site. To have to download an entire site before you could download a single picture set would be extremely time-consuming, and would be a serious strike against any site ripper program.

Drooler, I love ya! It worked like a charm. I put in jpg as a filter and the name of the model, unchecked everything else and then right clicked on a spot in between the thumbs of the set and started to download with that lovely Firefox add-on. Oh, yeah, I also set it to download "links" figuring that was probably a good idea! :-) And Bingo, I have two sets I had neglected because it was too much trouble to download them one by one.

Awright! Success! I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I'd recommend Google Chrome to all since it is much faster than IE and Firefox, but I gotta say it is nice to have DownThemAll! with Firefox for those damned sites that don't have zip files. Sadly Chrome doesn't use DownThemAll! yet. Someday...

I don't ever use IE anymore, what with Firefox now working with Netflix Watch Instant. Netflix needs to get on the Chrome train too. Chrome already works wonders with Hulu. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Fine tip, Toadsith.
Do NOT know anything about Google Chrome - so just this question (for instance): At Netscape you can download videos at watch it at the same time (at IE you have to wait till the whole damn thing is finished) - can you watch during download at this GC??? With problems over the years with IE, I migrated to Firefox and am much happier with it, with one exception. Managing bookmarks in IE is simple and instinctive. The whole thing can be managed and manipulated and launched with the file manager (MS Explore) I've been a file manager fan since before MSdos.
I can't seem to find any simple was to do this in Firefox. To save a site in a specific folder is problematic. I have to save it the Bookmarks Menu and then move them one at a time to the desired folder. Alphabetization is impossible. The list will read A to Z and then several items down, A to Z starts over and the process repeats many times in the folder.

Is there any way to access bookmarks in the file manager, I haven't found one in several years.

Any tips?

I DL'd Opera and It hi-jacked every IE bookmark in my system, making it an Opera bookmark, unusable in IE. THe only fix I could find was deleting Opera from my puter before I could become familiar with it, hence I don't know if Opera is any good or not

The only reference I'm seeing here regarding Chrome in in association with Mac OS. Does anyone use Chrome with a windows puter with any luck?

Also, I am unfamiliar with plug-ins for Firefox. do I need to join to the new century on this subject? unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is gonna suck. Edited on Dec 18, 2013, 02:29pm

Micha, can't help with the rest of it but as an aside ...

I will remind you that it's a good idea to export your MSIE bookmarks from time to time. If you'd exported a copy right before you went with Opera, you could have reclaimed them if you needed to. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Micha - I have found in Firefox that when you right click on the webpage and you choose "Bookmark This Page" it will pop open a tab (Edit This Bookmark) that gives you three items to work with - Name Change, Folder & Tags. - Folder defaults to Bookmark Menu with an arrow on the right side of that bar - or the arrow to the far right side of bar - either will open up a list of your folders that you save bookmarks too - and gives you the opportunity to create another folder if need be.

Hope that helps - Firefox Ver. 26.0 If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee.

I like Firefox due to customization capabilities.

I have my membership sites showing in my top bar. My top bar is actually my bookmarks bar because i have an addon to hide the navigation bar. I like to have the maximum view for my surfing. I also have my tabs in the side in an vertical order so that it takes less screenspace. I also have bunch of other addons but not gonna make just a huge list of addons in here.

Wow! this thread must'a turned on it's after-burners.
Even bought out some older members who've been in hibernation.

I've been using IE almost exclusively ever since my first computer. However, every once an a while my IE acts up, and I switch over to Firefox. And doggone-it, I find that I really, really like FF. But I always go back to IE. I simply can't shake my attachment to the dammed thing!

Lately, though, IE is wandering off again into it's lazy mode. Seems if it doesn't like something I click on, it lays down and quits! (crashes)
But with all due respect, it never fails to leave some indication it's sorry.
Sorry, yes, but under another definition?
