This movie star was before my time. In fact, I never heard of her, that I can remember. I've seen some silent films, on regular TV years ago, that were interesting because they were silent, and the style of acting was usually so different.

We have few films stars remaining from the 1920s and earlier, and they will soon be gone.

One of the oldest active stars that I know of is Eli Wallach, who just received an honorary Oscar this month. Eli Wallach started acting in the movies in the 1950s. He is now in his 90s. It's amazing, and wonderful, that someone that old can still have an active career. That his brain still works, that his body is still working.

Clint Eastwood is 80, which is hard to believe. He is one of the biggest directors in Hollywood, as well as one of the biggest former superstar actors.

Silent film star Marie Osborne Yeats dies at 99 (AP)
Source: AP 36 minutes ago

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. - Silent film child star Marie Osborne Yeats, who was known as Baby Marie Osborne in films such as "Little Mary Sunshine," has died in California. She was 99.

Daughter Joan Young tells the Los Angeles Times that Yeats died Nov. 11 at her San Clemente home. The cause of death wasn't disclosed, but Yeats had suffered three strokes in her later years.

Director Henry King launched Baby Marie to stardom in 1916 with "Little Mary Sunshine," a film written for her.

"Little Mary Sunshine" was the first in a series of Baby Marie Osborne films that captivated audiences worldwide and led to Baby Marie dolls and paper dolls.

Her film career ended after the 1919 comedy "Miss Gingersnap," and she later worked as a studio costume supervisor. Edited on Nov 18, 2010, 07:22am

Do not take this man to a movie theater, unless you absolutely know beforehand that he will enjoy the movie.

It would also be a good idea to see if this man was armed (with a shotgun, handgun, knife, or anything else that could serve as a weapon) before letting him inside the movie theater.

And while you're at it, maybe you could check to see if he was currently taking medication for his bipolar disorder. I believe that some people with bipolar disorder can become really angry at times.

Wisconsin man shoots TV over Palin's 'DWTS' dance

By Todd Richmond, Associated Press
MADISON, Wis. — Authorities say a 67-year-old rural Wisconsin man enraged over Bristol Palin's Dancing with the Stars routine blasted his television with a shotgun, leading to an overnight standoff with a SWAT team.

A Dane County Sheriff's detective says in court documents that Steven Cowan, of the town of Vermont, felt Palin was not a good dancer and was only on the show because of her famous mother.

They say Cowan loaded his shotgun and blasted the TV before turning the gun on his wife, who escaped.

Tactical officers surrounded the home and managed to talk Cowan out Tuesday morning.

Cowan was charged second-degree reckless endangerment and could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison if convicted. Authorities say he has bipolar disorder.

The article that messmer links to talks about a board, not a panel. Normally, a board is a few people who set the policy of an organization. This board will help set/determine the policy of "a new United Nations agency meant to promote equality for women."

Anyone in favor of equality for women would not vote for, or elect, board members who are against equality for women.

That's why the United States and Canada worked against against Iran getting a seat (a membership) on the board: In the opinion of the United States and Canada, Iran's views on women's equality should not be promoted.

1. In Iran, it is difficult for a woman to get a passport.
2. In Iran, the testimony of two women is equal to that of one man.
3. Iran sentenced a woman to death by stoning for adultery. The woman has not yet been executed, because there was an international protest over what many believed was cruel and barbaric treatment for a woman. Iran is still trying to decide what is the proper way to treat this woman: should she be executed by stoning, kept in prison, or what?

After all, a woman who is unfaithful is an abomination before God, and must be cleansed. What better way to cleanse her than to kill her by stoning?

4. In Iran, a women in public must wear a hijab (head covering), or she is considered a prostitute.

If you believe that Iran has the correct way to treat women's rights, then write your UN representatives and demand that Iran be given a seat on the UN board that deals with women's rights.

And I assume that Brooke Shields has made a lot more money by becoming an actress than if she had become a teacher or telephone operator or secretary.

She didn't have to take the risque roles. But they certainly gained her a huge amount of attention, which almost certainly increased the money she made. I dimly recall the "Nothing comes between me and my Calvin Klein jeans" ads with Brooke Shields. Even though some women say that females are exploited by sexy photos or being used in sexy ads, the women in the photos and ads can make a large amount of money.

I saw Spartacus with Kirk Douglas when it had its original theatrical run. The movie was considered sexy (and violent) back then, with Kirk Douglas and the gorgeous Jean Simmons. There was a scene with Laurence Olivier and Tony Curtis that took place in a bath. The scene was supposed to imply homosexual tendency for Laurence Olivier, but I was too young at the time to understand that, and it wasn't until many years later, reading about the movie, that I first knew that Olivier was supposed to be propositioning Curtis (Olivier was a high-ranking noble, and Curtis was a slave).

I thought, at the time I saw it, it was a spectacle, because it was a big-time event-type movie. They seemed to have more of those big-event movies back then, even though the movies today cost hundreds of millions of dollars, and the movies back then were much cheaper. But I don't really know how the movies' relative cost in the 1950s and 1960s compares to today's movies, when you take inflation into account.

The Spartacus with Kirk Douglas is far different from the TV series Spartacus. I assume that the budget for Spartacus the movie was far bigger, at the time, than today's Spartacus. The old one had many big-name stars, the TV series has no big-name stars.

I enjoyed the Kirk Douglas Spartacus. It was spectacular in many ways, and the writing/speech was elegant.

The TV Spartacus is far different. But if you aren't expecting or demanding a spectacular event-type series, I think the TV Spartacus is not bad. There are no big-name actors, and there are elements that are jarring (the CGI blood, the strong emphasis on wildly romantic love that appears to be directed to a female audience). But I thought the series was definitely watchable. Not a great series, but watchable.

As I said, I think Deadwood and Rome were much better, more enjoyable TV series.

I saw Kick-Ass today on DVD and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting that much, which was partly why the movie exceeded my expectations. But the movie also has a nice plot, a lot of action, and an 11-year-old girl who can really kick ass.

Rated R for violence and strong language, and there is plenty of violence and strong language. I was surprised an 11-year-old girl was allowed to curse so much, because legally she couldn't see this movie without her parents' permission, which they probably wouldn't let her do, even though she is one of the stars of the movie.

The girl is Chloe Moretz, and she is great. She's the new Dakota Fanning or Abigail Breslin. Chloe Moretz is also the star of "Let Me In", which is a vampire movie that is a remake of a Swedish movie.

I think Kick-Ass is definitely worth a rental from Red Box for $1. Or catch it on cable.

OFF TOPIC

I watched part of Season One of Spartacus, a TV series. There are 4 DVDs for Season One, and I have seen Disc 1, 2, and 4.

The series is OK to good. Some of the elements in the way the series is shown could be improved: the CGI way they show blood spurting all over when people are hacked to death looks like a cartoon, and could be more realistic, or at least more like real blood instead of the fake CGI blood.
And the dream sequences and pauses where they show how Spartacus misses his dead wife could be toned down. They are mixing blood and gore with romantic visions from the true romance novels written for teen girls and women, and the fit is definitely not perfect.

A better series is Deadwood, or Rome. Those are two series that are on DVD that you should rent, if possible. Both are adult series, and very enjoyable. Deadwood is a western series, set in the 1800s. Rome is set in ancient Roman times, when Rome was the center of the civilized world.

I've seen nude photos of Emma Watson (from the Harry Potter series) on the Internet. But I'm sure they were all fake, just like there are nude/doctored photos of most movie stars posted on the Internet at different sites. I didn't see the Emma Watson photos at an actual pay site, just at one of those pages that show a bunch of different nude photos. There were several photos of Emma Watson. She's a cute girl, and I imagine some people enjoy looking at nude photos of her, even if the nude body that is being displayed does not really belong to Watson.

Incestuous love and sex invade the site of the new Harry Potter film.
Read all about here, where Emma Watson acts "like an animal" locking lips (and other body parts) with co-star Daniel Radcliffe.

Are these future porn stars in the making? Radcliffe got $20 million for each of the last 2 films in the series (the one opening this week, and the one opening next year). Watson (a female, therefore entitled to lower pay for similar work) got $15 million for each of the last 2 films. So $40 million for Radcliffe, $30 million for Watson.

Will some porno film company cough up enough cash to get these stars in their next porn production?

Radcliffe went naked for a stage play of Equus, so he might have been considering a role in some porno movie.

Radcliffe, Watson share torrid 'Harry Potter' kiss (AP)
Source: AP 2 hours, 51 minutes ago

LONDON - Daniel Radcliffe was expecting a tender embrace when it came time to kiss co-star Emma Watson in the new "Harry Potter" film. What he got was torrid necking, Watson working magic with her lips "like an animal," he said.

"I thought it was going to be like a soft, sensual sort of moment, and it was this very vigorous kissing scene," said Radcliffe, reprising the title role in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1," the second-to-last of the big-screen adventures about the teen wizard, which opens Friday.

"She really went for it, I have to say. It caught me slightly off guard, but yeah, I'm not complaining. Many men would lose a limb to be in that position, so I was absolutely fine with it," Radcliffe said in an interview.

Opening worldwide this week, the film casts Harry and best pals Hermione Granger (Watson) and Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) out into the world to fend for themselves, and the journey puts severe strain on their friendship.

Under the spell of an artifact containing part of evil nemesis Voldemort's soul, Ron is sent into a jealous rage by a vision of Hermione, the girl he loves, and Harry taunting him as a third wheel in their relationship. Hermione and Harry then turn to each other and do some kissing that looks positively bestial.

"That was mainly Emma, I have to say," said director David Yates.

The first take was too tame, and Yates said he told the actors it needed to be more "pagan and mad." That's when Watson really delivered.

"I guess I just realized that I would have fewer takes to do if I just got on with it and just gave David what he wanted, which was a passionate kiss. Which was something that would really rock Ron's boat and really be quite painful and nasty for him to watch," Watson said.

Grint shot Ron's raging reactions alone, without Watson and Radcliffe on set. But he was on hand for Watson and Radcliffe's portions, though he was struck by a case of the giggles watching the colleagues he grew up with in the "Harry Potter" franchise getting down and dirty.

"When they were there actually filming that kiss, they did actually want me there to kind of play off something, but I just found that too funny," Grint said. "Emma sent me out because I kept laughing. It just looked really strange."

Though they were partly clothed, the scene leaves the impression that Radcliffe and Watson are stripped naked. Both wore jeans, while Radcliffe went shirtless and Watson had the front of her torso covered, leaving her back and shoulders bare.

"I didn't want to put them through complete nudity," said director David Yates. "I didn't think it was necessary, because we were going to put some smoke around them" for the scene, which Ron witnesses through a hallucinatory fog.

Watson was thrilled that the scene delivered the sort of amorousness the filmmakers wanted.

"I'm proud of it, and considering how bloody awkward it was, I'm really impressed that we managed to make it look anything other than awkward," Watson said. "Because Dan and I are like brother and sister, so it was tough making it look passionate, believe me." Edited on Nov 15, 2010, 08:38am

justme, maybe you should go back to school before you start handing out psychiatric advice. If someone wants to blow off steam on these threads, if the PU staff allows it, why are you objecting? TheSquirrel raises some valid issues, like regional pricing and pre-checked cross sells, that many PU members dislike. Living in the U.S., I don't have to personally worry about regional pricing, but I dislike having to look through signup pages when I join a site to avoid these pre-checked cross sells. And I also believe regional pricing is unfair and discriminatory, even if it is legal.

I was born about 60 years ago. And when I was growing up, in the movies, the British were usually portrayed as elegant, polished, and with a stiff upper lip. Not every time, of course, but the British gentlemen and lords were the height of civilized behavior.

That's just the movies, of course, and real life is far different from most movies.

And there was also the rise of the cockney hero, a lower-class workingman who made good one way or another.

But that's what I was referring to when I said the British set an example of how we are supposed to behave politely.

Americans (the U.S. version, anyway) were never noted for their manners, in the movie version or in real life.

But if you are going to give examples of real life, from recent times, you can find a wide range of both mean and generous behavior from people all over the world.

But if this newspaper report was accurate, this Brit was an idiot. Not matter how angry he might have been, when you're at an airport, you are facing heightened security. And to curse and give the finger to a female airport worker because he is blowing off steam, exposed him to arrest. I believe he could have faced detention if the incident happened in the U.S. or Britain, though he would have a less serious legal threat of imprisonment held against him.

To put it a different way: You have the right of free speech. But try going to an airport and then start yelling your head off. See what happens then. Edited on Nov 14, 2010, 07:57am

As Americans, we look to the British to set an example of how we are supposed to behave politely. But apparently not all Brits are examples to be followed.

One question in my mind is whether the Brit, if forced to serve a 2-year jail sentence in Dubai, will still be paid his regular salary from the United Nations.

I read about a U.S. federal judge who was sent to a U.S. prison, for breaking the law. But he still received his regular salary (not his retirement pay, but his regular salary) while in prison. The fact he was in prison instead of serving on the bench did not make any difference in the salary he was legally entitled to. I think it would take a measure from either the U.S. Congress or the U.S. Senate to stop his regular salary, even though the man was in prison instead of on the job. I thought to myself: "Wow, that is some job protection."

British man arrested for giving 'the finger' in Dubai airport

By Ben Mutzabaugh, USA TODAY

In a story that serves as a reminder to watch your manners when passing through Dubai, The Sun of London reports that a 34-year-old British man has been arrested and jailed for giving "the finger" to an airport worker there.

The Sun says the incident began when a female airport employee would not let Paul Anthony use what the paper describes as a "customer services desk phone."

An argument ensued in which Anthony is accused of "cursing" at the woman in front her of colleagues. Then, as he passed through border control, he "thrust his middle finger in her face," the Sun writes.

The woman called authorities, who arrested Anthony. He was convicted of "indecency and insulting the employee," according to the Sun.

Anthony was released after serving three days in a Dubai jail, but now faces a month awaiting his appeal against his penalty of a two-year jail term and deportation order, the Sun says.

The man is a United Nations worker who had planned a six-day stopover in Dubai on his way back to the United Kingdom from Asia, according to the Sun's sources.

"Brits have often fallen foul of decency laws but no one's been arrested this quickly," one unnamed source from the Dubai courts tells the paper.

The article I quoted at the start of this thread mentions that as recently as 1997, in the UK, education at the elite universities was free. Oxford and Cambridge, internationally recognized names, were free. I didn't realize that, because in the U.S., names like Harvard and Princeton were extremely expensive to attend.

But the price of university education in the U.K. is zooming. From free in 1997, to approximately $4,800 yearly today, to $14,000 yearly in the near future, if Parliament passes the legislation.

I would assume that almost all the members of Parliament are university graduates, and that they all enjoyed a free university education, or a university education that was, at most, extremely low-cost compared to the current fees, and even more low-cost compared to the proposed increased fees.

The attitude seems to be, "I got mine, too bad you didn't get yours". But we're in an economic downturn, and everyone has to bite the bullet. Except that the politicians in power somehow avoided that bullet they didn't have to bite, because they enjoyed a free or very low-cost education.

Tuition increases have been common in the U.S., and there have been many forms of cutbacks in public funding of college/university education.

Starting next year, the California State University system will have raised tuition by 60% over what it was two years ago. That is a large increase, but it's still much smaller than what the U.K. students are facing.

(There are other ways the cutbacks are affecting U.S. colleges, like offering fewer classes, etc.)

Tuition for a full-time undergraduate during the current academic year at Cal State University, Northridge, is $5,076, the result of a 32 percent jump from the previous year.

With the new increases set for the 2011-2012 acadmic year, those same students will pay $5,837.

$5,800 per year for a university education in California is expensive compared to what it was a decade ago.

But $5,800 is cheap compared to $14,000 a year in the U.K. Especially when the U.K. was free education 13 years ago.

(I am not quoting prices of Harvard and Princeton and other private colleges, which were always extremely expensive compared to public colleges and universities in the U.S.)

EXCLUSIVE: 3D 'Sex & Zen' to Offer Pick and Choose Edits
Source: The Hollywood Reporter Thu Nov 11, 2010, 10:00 pm EST

HONG KONG – Up to a dozen “tailor-made” versions of erotic 3D film Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy are set to spring up across the globe come the film’s release in the summer of 2011.

The film’s producers will offer differing cuts to cater to the censorship standards and cultural tastes in different regions. Buyers are encouraged to “pick and choose” edits, not only for their regions, but also for theatrical and DVD releases, to address the censorship concerns of various territories.

The tactic has proved effective, as the rights to the title have been snatched up for Italy, France, Peru, Russia, and Singapore during the American Film Market, after an eight-minute preview in 3D was screened. The film’s distribution rep Alvina Wong said buyers can choose, with the producers Stephen Shiu Sr. and Stephen Shiu Jr. and director Christopher Sun to put together “tamer versions” suitable for their respective territories. Rights were pre-sold for New Zealand, Australia and Korea in Cannes.

Produced by the Shiu father-and-son team through their One Dollar Production, the HK$20 million ($2.5i million) action-packed film was shot entirely in stereoscopic 3D. It is a reinvention of the 1991 blockbuster Sex and Zen, inspired by the 17th century Chinese erotic novel The Carnal Prayer Mat, that spawned a wave of copycat period erotica set in historical China. Hong Kong’s Menfond, the digital effects house behind Jet Li’s Fearless, the alien dog in Stephen Chow’s CJ7, and the conversion to 3D of Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas takes charge on the 3D effects of vigorous, sometimes sadomasochistic, action sequences. Hong Kong release of the film is set for May or June 2011.

Dino De Laurentiis is dead at 91. The man was a superstar producer, producing a huge amount of movies of all kinds. He was responsible for movies with great critical acclaim, as well as major blockbusters and a wide variety of other movies.

When he was around 70, he married a woman of 29, and had 2 kids with her. So you have to give him another 20 points for that alone.

"Dino always said you need three things in life: brains, heart and balls, and I hope I've exemplified that advice throughout my career," Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who credits De Laurentiis with his big break in movies, said Thursday in a statement.

(De Laurentiis produced the Conan movies, one of Schwarzenegger's earliest starring roles.)

De Laurentiis, pivotal producer of 'Serpico,' dies

By JAKE COYLE, AP Entertainment Writer Jake Coyle, Ap Entertainment Writer – 31 mins ago

Dino De Laurentiis, one of the last great, intrepid film producers who with unmatched showmanship shepherded movies as varied as "La Strada" and "Barbarella," has died. He was 91.

"My grandfather was a true inspiration. He was my biggest champion in life and a constant source for wisdom and advice. I will miss him dearly," granddaughter Giada De Laurentiis, a star chef and host on Food Network, said Thursday.

De Laurentiis helped build the Italian film industry during the heyday of its New Wave, oversaw seminal American films such as "Serpico" and "Blue Velvet," and pursued blockbusters in flops like "Dune" and critical fiascos such as the 1976 remake of "King Kong."

In producing more than 500 wide-ranging films over six decades, he presided over an incredible mix of high and low. That the same filmmaker could be involved with Federico Fellini's "Nights of Cabiria" and Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Conan the Barbarian" would seem to contradict normal understanding of taste. Instead, he was irrevocably drawn to the spectacle of the movies.

"Our industry is a special one," he told The Associated Press in 1998. "You deal every day with different people, creative people. Every day is different at work. To produce a movie, you have to create the star, you make script, you find director. You have to shoot the movie."

De Laurentiis, who died Wednesday night in Beverly Hills, pioneered the way films were sold internationally. He played the part of entrepreneur in grand style, dressing in fine suits and frequently sipping cappuccino. The sprawling studio complex he built on the outskirts of Rome he dubbed Dinocitta (Dino City).

"The extraordinary thing that Dino taught all of us is the true figure of the independent producer," film producer Aurelio De Laurentiis said Thursday about his uncle. "He always behaved in the U.S. as a major studio, even though he was a one-man show."

Raised outside of Naples and one of six children born into the family's pasta-making business, De Laurentiis quickly realized that his destiny was in moviemaking.

Though he initially trained in Rome to be an actor, De Laurentiis once said, "I see my face in the mirror, and I said, 'No, my ambition is not to be an actor.' I realized the exciting place was behind the camera with the producer, director and so on."

He was central to the rise of Italy's film industry, which in the 1950s rose to international prominence as the Italian New Wave.

Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi sent a telegram of condolences to the family on Thursday, saying De Laurentiis had been a "protagonist of a century of cinema in Italy and America." Italian President Giorgio Napolitano said his "long and passionate" career had "contributed to the rebirth of Italian cinema in the post-World War II years."

De Laurentiis' initial success began after World War II, starting with "Bitter Rice," in 1948, which launched the career of his first wife, Silvana Mangano.

In 1950, he went into business with another rising director, Carlo Ponti. They soon dominated the Italian movie business, monopolizing top stars such as Mangano, Sophia Loren (who later married Ponti) and Marcello Mastroianni. Their first international production was the epic "War and Peace" (Henry Fonda, Audrey Hepburn, Mel Ferrer) in 1955.

With the lure of huge salaries, he often imported international movie stars to boost a film's prospects. For Fellini's "La Strada," which won the Academy Award for foreign language film in 1957, he persuaded Anthony Quinn to come to Rome. De Laurentiis also produced Fellini's "Nights of Cabiria," which won the foreign film Oscar a year later.

At Dinocitta, De Laurentiis married Hollywood stars with spectacle: "Barrabas" (Quinn); "The Bible" (George C. Scott, Ava Gardner); "Anzio" (Robert Mitchum); "Waterloo" (Rod Steiger). He also made more offbeat fare, such as Roger Vadim's sex romp, "Barbarella" (Jane Fonda).

De Laurentiis was one of the first producers to understand the box-office potential of foreign audiences, and helped invent international co-productions, raising money by pre-selling distribution rights outside North America. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gave him the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 2001.

He began to move away from his base in Italy in the 1960s when the government changed the rules to mandate totally Italian productions to qualify for subsidies. He sold Dinocitta to the government in 1972. He relocated the studio in Wilmington, N.C., and dubbed his production company the De Laurentiis Entertainment Group.

The Oscar-winning "Serpico," in 1973 with Al Pacino, was De Laurentiis' Hollywood debut. Charles Bronson's "Death Wish," Robert Redford's "Three Days of the Condor" and John Wayne's last film, "The Shootist," followed.

He often stayed loyal to young, talented directors, even though the results weren't always strong. He made "Buffalo Bill and the Indians" with Robert Altman. Even after Michael Cimino's huge flop "Heaven's Gate," De Laurentiis made "Year of the Dragon" and "Desperate Hours" with him. Despite the failure of "Dune," he stuck with David Lynch and two years later produced the acclaimed "Blue Velvet."

Lynch recalled him as having "more energy than ten people on PCP."

"If something ever came up that required something to be done, Dino's hand would in one millisecond go to the phone and deal with the thing, get the thing done," said Lynch. "There's maybe no rhyme or reason to what struck his fancy, but when he got it, he was just a pitbull."

De Laurentis also continued to be a small factory for tackiness. Though he had earlier worked with revered filmmakers such as Victorio De Sica, Roberto Rossellini and Ingmar Bergman, some of his schlock included the plantation drama "Mandingo," the horror film "Amityville II," the cult comedy "Army of Darkness" and Madonna's "Body of Evidence."

"Dino always said you need three things in life: brains, heart and balls, and I hope I've exemplified that advice throughout my career," Schwarzenegger, who credits De Laurentiis with his big break in movies, said Thursday in a statement.

Though flops like "King Kong" and "Hurricane" could be shaken off, personal tragedy took its toll. In 1981, his son Federico was killed in a plane crash. The strain of the loss helped end De Laurentiis' marriage to Mangano. They were divorced in 1988, the same year De Laurentiis Entertainment Group went into bankruptcy, finished off by the flop of "King Kong Lives."

De Laurentiis, close to 70, was undaunted and started over. Within two years, he had a new wife, 29-year-old Martha Schumacher, formed a new company and started producing moneymakers again.

"My philosophy is very simple," he once said. "To feel young, you must work as long as you can."

Survivors include three daughters with Mangano — Rafaela, Francesca and Veronica — and two with Schumacher: Carolina and Dina. Funeral arrangements have not yet been determined.

It's not enough that Gerard Butler is a rich and famous movie star. He also has to act like a businessman and steal the name of a company in order to make even more money. Shame on Gerard Butler.

And the company whose name Butler is trying to steal is fighting back. They are suing Butler for $2 million for trademark infringement.

Aren't lawyers wonderful? A $2 million lawsuit because a famous actor is using a company name similar to one that was already in existence.

But maybe the other company will get lucky: They might not only get some publicity, they might also win some cash.

But my guess is that if Butler named his company "Evil Twins Entertainment" and the other company is named "Evil Twin Productions", there won't be any large settlement. Those are two different names.

Gerard Butler sued by Evil Twin for $2 million (Reuters)
Source: Reuters 3 hours, 3 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - If there's any actor who should be able to pick the name of his production company without getting into legal trouble, it's Gerard Butler, right?

Butler, after all, was briefly a lawyer before going on to star in "300," "Phantom of the Opera" and "Law Abiding Citizen."

But he's been sued for trademark infringement over the name of his production company.

Here's the beef: Butler and business partner Alan Siegel named their shingle Evil Twins. But there's another Hollywood company operating under the banner Evil Twin Prods.

According to the complaint, filed Tuesday in federal court in Los Angeles, Evil Twin Prods was started by Kristen Armfield and Harri Mark in 1996.

They have a registered trademark on "Evil Twin." According to Evil Twin's website, the entity has worked on promotional TV spots for "High School Musical 3," "The Dark Knight," and Coldplay's last album.

The lawsuit claims that Butler and Siegel announced their Evil Twins Entertainment in March 2008. Ever since then, the first Evil Twins says there's been confusion in the marketplace and it has received correspondence and telephone calls intended for Butler's Evil Twins.

The complaint also says that Butler has been made aware of the controversy and posted a note on his website: "DO NOT contact other Evil Twins or Evil Twin companies listed in Los Angeles."

The current version of Butler's website only admonishes people that "there is no 'productions', 'films' or any other words in the title of" his company.

The plaintiff is demanding an injunction and either actual damages or $2 million in statutory damages for alleged unfair competition.

Reached for comment, Siegel laughed and told The Hollywood Reporter he has nothing to say at this time.

Canadians are some of our finest neighbors. Lots of Canadians move to LA and become big name actors. So we wouldn't deliberately nuke Canada. But because we Los Angelenos are basically a peace-loving peoples, we might not be too accurate in the nukes we are firing at San Francisco and Sacramento. In case any of those nukes happen to drop onto Canada, we are sending our apologies in advance. and to our good friends the Canucks.

Is Canuck considered offensive or derogatory by Canadians? I looked it up, and the source I checked said the term "Canuck" could be considered offensive slang. I never realized that before. Do many Canadians consider the word offensive?

Seriously, no offense intended.

I thought that the cost of going to college in the U.S. had gotten bad.
But the price of higher education is set to zoom in the UK.

How does the British government think middle class and lower class students will be able to afford the price of a university education? Or maybe the British government thinks the middle and lower classes don't deserve a university education?

Thousands of UK students protest tuition fees hike

By JILL LAWLESS and GILLIAN SMITH, Associated Press Jill Lawless And Gillian Smith, Associated Press – 11 mins ago

LONDON – Tens of thousands of students marched noisily through London on Wednesday against plans to triple university tuition fees, and some tried to occupy the headquarters of the governing Conservative Party, in the largest street protest yet against the government's sweeping austerity measures.

Organizers said 50,000 students, lecturers and supporters were demonstrating against plans to raise the cost of studying at a university to 9,000 pounds ($14,000) a year — three times the current rate.

Violence flared as a handful of people smashed windows in a high-rise building that houses Conservative headquarters, as others lit a bonfire of placards outside the building.

Office workers were evacuated as several dozen protesters managed to get into the lobby, chanting "Tories Out," while outside police faced off against a crowd that occasionally hurled food, soda cans and placards.

"We are destroying the building just like they are destroying our chances of affording higher education," said Corin Parkin, 20, a student at London's City University.

Organizers condemned the violence. Sally Hunt, general secretary of faculty group the University and College Union, said "the actions of a minority, out of 50,000 people, is regrettable."

Elsewhere, protesters were peaceful but determined.

"I am here because it is important that students stand up and shout about what is going on," said

Anna Tennant-Siren, a student at the University of Ulster in Coleraine, said: "Politicians don't seem to care. They should be taking money from people who earn seven-figure salaries, not from students who don't have any money."

Frances O'Grady, of the Trades Union Congress, said the hike would make colleges "no-go zones for young people from ordinary backgrounds."

"This is about turning colleges and universities from learning institutions into finishing schools for the rich," she said.

Britain's Liberal Democrats, who are part of the coalition government with the Conservatives, pledged during the country's election campaign to abolish fees.

Protest leaders said they would attempt to use recall powers to oust lawmakers who break campaign promises on the issue.

The National Union of Students said it would try to recall legislators from the party who vote in favor on the hike.

"We will not tolerate the previous generation passing on its debts to the next, nor will we pick up the bill to access a college and university education that was funded for them," said union president Aaron Porter.

While British tuition fees are modest compared to those at some U.S. colleges, British universities are public institutions. Opponents of the tuition increase have pointed out that Prime Minister David Cameron and other members of the government attended elite universities such as Oxford and Cambridge at a time when university education was free.

The previous Labour government of Prime Minister Tony Blair introduced the first fees for students soon after it was elected in 1997. Scotland abolished tuition fees in 2000, and in the rest of Britain the cost is capped at about 3,000 pounds ($4,800) a year.

Prime Minister David Cameron's government plans to triple that and cut funding to universities as it strives to slash 81 billion pounds ($128 billion) from public expenditure over the next four years.

Parts of the conspiracy are being exposed: East coast people who hate L.A. (and perverts from Northern California in the San Francisco/Sacramento regions) have long ago declared war on the beautiful city of Los Angeles. As patriots, we need to fight back, and send nuclear missiles to all regions East, North, and South of us. Since our nearest neighbor to the West is Catalina Island, I believe, and since we enjoy friendly relations with that tiny land-mass, we can save our Weapons of Mass Destruction for the real enemies that are surrounding our beloved city and county.

I live in the county of Los Angeles, not the city, but I urge both county and city residents to work together to destroy our enemies.

Perhaps we can get George Bush to lead this fight, since he did so well in the struggle against the Evil Empire. Or was that Ronald Reagan, who was fighting the Evil Empire? Is Ronny still available somewhere?

Lava, tsunamis, alien invasions: Films bash L.A. (AP)
Source: AP 1 hour, 16 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - This city has the worst luck.

Through decades of disaster films, Los Angeles has been targeted by aliens, toppled by temblors, sunken by tsunamis, leveled by lava, and a rogue tornado once took out the Hollywood sign.

And so it will be that calamity again strikes the City of Angels in the new sci-fi film "Skyline," opening Friday, followed by another bout of destruction early next year in the movie "Battle: Los Angeles."

What is it about L.A. that invites such repeated devastation?

"People love watching Los Angeles get destroyed," says "Battle: Los Angeles" director Jonathan Liebesman. "It's nice to screw up the great weather."

But there's so much more to it than that.

The city is home to Hollywood and the movie business, so the artists who write about, direct and execute mass destruction in Los Angeles are often intimately familiar with the territory.

Production designer Jackson De Govia — who helped blow up the Beverly Center shopping mall and decimate Wilshire Boulevard's museums in 1997's "Volcano" — says he loves trashing his own city on film.

"One of the funnest things you can do in movies is blow stuff up," says De Govia, who also pulverized Nakatomi Plaza in the original "Die Hard." "And if you're blowing up your hometown, and that hometown is Los Angeles, it's even better, because who hasn't wanted to do that at times?"

L.A. is a city filled with internationally recognized landmarks — the Hollywood sign, the Capitol Records building, City Hall and the skyscrapers of downtown — which make for "convenient cinematic shorthand," says Craig Detweiler, director of the Center for Entertainment, Media and Culture at Pepperdine University.

"It allows the scale of the disaster to strike everybody," he says. "Everybody recognizes the Hollywood sign. It's like, 'Oh, that's big.'"

Apart from its landmarks, L.A. is a popular disaster-movie locale because of its geography. Sitting in a seismic zone on the western edge of the continent, it is surrounded by beaches, mountains and deserts. In real life, the city is subject to floods, fires, earthquakes and big waves, so seeing freeways collapse or Santa Monica swallowed up by the sea (as in "2012") isn't such a stretch.

"L.A. can have these multiple functions as an apocalyptic disaster place because it's on the verge between urbanism and nature," Braudy says. "There's a sense of the precariousness of human habitation over this potentially eruptive nature."

Los Angeles is also a city many people love to hate, notes American Film Institute historian Bob Birchard: "L.A. and certainly Hollywood have been associated in some people's minds as a hotbed of the devil's work, so that underlying element is part of the genre."

That notion isn't just implied in 1996's "Escape from L.A.," it's stated: Los Angeles becomes known as the "island of the damned" and "a deportation point for all people found undesirable or unfit to live in the new moral America."

Birchard says the first disaster film was "The Lost World" in 1925, in which London was destroyed. New York took its first on-screen beating in 1933's "King Kong."

Since Los Angeles didn't rise to prominence until after World War II, it wasn't a popular site for annihilation until 1952's "War of the Worlds."

Since then, the city has been subject to all kinds of disasters, both natural and otherworldly, in films such as "Earthquake" with Charlton Heston, "Superman" with Christopher Reeve, and more recently "Terminator," "Independence Day," "The Day After Tomorrow" and "2012."

Ultimately, heaving destruction on Los Angeles shows Hollywood's sense of humor, sense of optimism and a real love for its sunny, palm-lined home.

Greg Strause, one of the filmmakers behind "Skyline," says the alien-invasion flick was inspired by the breathtaking view from his Marina del Rey condo. The invaders' first target? Movie studios.

"It's a strange coincidence that the motherships, they descend on all the studios first," he says with a laugh. "One's in Culver City. One's in Century City... Those aliens, they have peculiar tastes."

"We barbecue all of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills," adds co-director Colin Strause.

The destruction was achieved digitally at the Strause brothers' own visual-effects firm, Hydraulx. The company also did special effects for "Battle: Los Angeles," another alien-invasion tale as seen through the eyes of one Marine platoon in L.A.

De Govia and his team lovingly rebuilt almost the entire Miracle Mile stretch of Wilshire Boulevard at three-quarter scale for the destruction scenes in "Volcano." They also built the Beverly Center in miniature. Then they blew everything up.

A longtime L.A. resident, he's been moved — literally — by other disaster films set in the city.

He wanted to buy a home near the reservoir in the Hollywood Hills, but decided against it after seeing "Earthquake," in which the reservoir's dam breaks and floods the neighborhood below.

"It's always in your mind," he says. "Dams do break. We see it in movies all the time."

But regardless of the on-screen devastation, there are always a few survivors in these films, along with a message of hope, which USC pop-cultural historian Leo Braudy relates to the West Coast's spirit of optimism — yet one more reason for Hollywood to choose L.A. when doing digital disaster.

"It's kind of hedged, but there's always hope: Hope for change, hope for resurrection," he says. "It's an odd kind of Western optimism: We're going to start over again, like a phoenix rising from its own destruction."

It's cathartic to see people triumph over tough challenges, and it's fun because it's all pretend. Los Angeles may be in ashes, but step outside the theater, and there it is in all its gilded glory.

"L.A. is good at playing itself in film. It's a familiar face," says Detweiler. "Just as we expect Will Smith to rescue the day, we expect L.A. to get blown up and somehow miraculously reappear in the next summer blockbuster."

Is it stupid or smart to require viewers to watch an advertisement before they can watch the trailer for a movie? After all, a trailer for a movie is advertisement for the movie. So Yahoo (and other sites) are now making you watch an ad before you can play the trailer for a movie. I used to watch trailers on my PC to get an idea of what the movie is like, but being forced to watch advertisements I don't want to see, means I am going to be much more selective on which movie trailers I will watch.

I wonder how many other people are watching less movie trailers because of the commercials that are required before you can view a movie trailer?

And since Google took over YouTube, you now have to watch an advertisement before you can watch a YouTube clip.

Is there a zapper program that will kill the ads, so you can go directly to the movie trailer or the YouTube clip?

Korea's Blue Dragon Award Nominees Announced
Source: The Hollywood Reporter Wed Nov 10, 2010, 4:00 am EST

SEOUL – Five nominees for the best picture of the Blue Dragon Film Awards given to innovative Korean films of the year were unveiled today. The nominees are The Man from Nowhere, Moss, Secret Union, A Taoist Wizard and Housemaid.

Kang Woo-seok, the helmer of Moss and Im Sang-soo of Housemaid were nominated for best director along with Lee Jeong-beom of The Man from Nowhere, Jang Hoon of Secret Union and Choi Dong-hoon of A Taoist Wizard.

Kim Yun-jin from the ABC series Lost was nominated for best actress for her performance in Harmony, a story of female prisoners in a choir along with Yun Jeong-hee from Poetry who won the best actress at the Grand Bell awards and Jeon Do-yeon, who has previously won the best actress award at Cannes for director Lee Chang-dong’s drama Secret Sunshine. Su Ae from Midnight FM and Seo Yeong-hee from Bedevilled were also nominated in the section.

For best actor, Lee Byung-hun from I Saw the Devil and Kang Dong-won from Secret Union were nominated along with Park Hee-soon from A Barefoot Dream, Won Bin from The Man from Nowhere and Jeong Jae-young from Moss.

Separately, the director Lee Chang-dong’s Poetry was excluded from the nomination for the award’s best picture and best director as Lee boycotted the awards and refused to attend the ceremony since 2002. Lee won the best pictures at the awards with his debut film Green Fish in 1997.

But Chosun Ilbo, a conservative South Korean newspaper which hosts the awards, has run into frequent conflicts with Lee when he served as the minister of culture, sports and tourism under a liberal government led by the late president Roh Moo-hyun in 2003. Regardless, actresses Mun Sori and Jeon Do-yeon who starred in Lee’s films were nominated for the awards and attended previous festivals.

“The film Poetry was excluded as Lee strongly expressed through direct and indirect routes that he will not attend the awards ceremony,” the awards’ organizers said in a press release. “But we nominated Yun based on a decision that the awards could not curtail the actor’s rights to her reward regardless of the director and the producer’s political judgment.”

This year’s Blue Dragon Awards ceremony takes place on November 26 in Seoul.

Not sure what this is, except a gimmick to increase traffic. But a few restaurants are using semi-nude models as table-decoration to serve their food.

It makes me feel much more at ease knowing that the surface of the models is required to be smooth and easily cleaned, as specified by the Florida Department of Business and
Professional Regulation.

Fla. restaurant adds fleshy fare to the menu

Updated 2d 2h ago

By Drew Sterwald, The (Fort Myers, Fla.) News-Press

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Gabrielle Patchell is a real dish.

The petite 5-foot-6 model lies on her back with her
long, blond hair splayed out on a table like an Asian
fan. Nearly nude but for a thong and strategically
placed leaves and artificial blossoms, she remains
stock-still as people pluck sushi pieces off of her
arms, legs and tummy.

"She's my platter that I get to put my food on," says
Brian Sung, sushi chef at Torch Bistro, Sushi and
Martini Bar in Punta Gorda.

Long considered a sleepy little hamlet, Punta Gorda
has joined the ranks of megacities such as New
York, Los Angeles and Miami in serving so-called
"naked sushi."

"I hope Punta Gorda is ready for it," quips Evelyn
Keller, a North Fort Myers, Fla., resident who had
stopped in for a more conventional dinner with friends.

Apparently it is.

The trio of chefs behind Torch — Shane Federici,
Jason Bush and sushi-roller Sung — say they've
booked at least one full-body sushi party a month
since they opened in January. With models costing
$100-$200 an hour, private parties can run
$300-$400 depending on how many guests attend
and how much food is ordered.

Torch also serves more Italian cuisine and American
comfort food, but the sexy sushi presentation is
what's attracting attention. A travel writer on AOL.
com ranked it second on a list of the "10 Most
Outrageous Restaurants" around the world —
between the No. 3 California eatery where patrons
dine in the dark and the No. 1 in Japan where
monkeys are the servers.

The practice formally known as nyotaimori is
intended to celebrate female beauty — though male
models also are available.

The Florida Department of Business and
Professional Regulation, which inspects restaurants
statewide, has no laws or license requirements
regarding the preparation or serving of sushi.

"Current law does require that all food contact
surfaces be smooth and easily cleaned," says DBPR
spokeswoman Alexis Antonacci Lambert.

Torch's models shower with antibacterial soap and
shave before they are made up, painted with Asian
symbols and decorated with flowers. The process
takes about 90 minutes.

Then, staffers carefully place volcano rolls and
spicy tuna rolls on top of leaves or seaweed sheets
on the models — the food doesn't actually touch
their skin. Patrons sit around the table, plucking
sushi with chopsticks, but aren't supposed to talk to
the models.

It's nothing new to Patchell, the 24-year-old sushi
model, gymnast and graduate student. She once
served as the vessel for an ice cream sundae buffet.
How does she manage to stay so still when she has
lily pads pressed into her armpits? Yoga skills help.

"I concentrate," she says. "I don't hear the
conversations going on."

Stuart Sanchez, 57, and his wife drove down from
Sarasota, Fla., for the special public demonstration.

"It's fantastic," Stuart Sanchez says. "I'm so surprised
to find it here."

The (Fort Myers, Fla.) News-Press is owned by
Gannett Co., Inc., publisher of USA TODAY.

Hitmen like Agent 47 have a bar code on the back of their shaved head. It isn't tattooed/printed at birth, but at a very early age, as I recall. But in spite of the bar code, law enforcement agencies are unable to easily locate these killers. So I don't know if imprinting the general population with bar codes will make the collection of porn stars much easier for us collectors.

Maybe you can come up with a better suggestion, Khan?

I think "I Feel Myself" is the best masturbation site out there. It's not age specific, for mature. And it's not stripping. You've almost certainly seen it. But if you haven't, it features what appears to be real masturbation with an orgasm. These are not the teen glamor babes, or the silicone-enhanced models we have seen in porn, but real women.

My knowledge of mature sites is zip (zero).

She still looks good, but she was adorable in her prime. There's no way I would recognize her now unless I had the youtube video to compare her to, along with a big name tag saying: "Look at me, I'm Marilyn Jess, the French porn star." As I get older, I need hints like that to remember things.

Stop the press! Harrison Ford might be willing to do another Indiana Jones movie. Would the fact that Ford made $65 million from Indiana Jones Part 4 have anything to do with that idea? Is Harrison Ford worth $65 million for appearing in a movie today?

Ford has not been in a hit movie for many years now (with the exception of the Indiana Jones Part 4 movie). He was a huge star, but his popularity peaked years ago. And to pay him that kind of money for being in a movie is ridiculous.

Harrison Ford Would 'Love' To Do 'Indiana Jones 5,' Talks 'Cowboys & Aliens'
Source: Access Hollywood 2 hours, 16 minutes ago

Harrison Ford may play an aging anchorman in his latest film, "Morning Glory," but he's ready to strap on his trademark fedora, grab his leather whip and jump into action for another "Indiana Jones" if he gets the call.

"Oh sure, I'd love to do it," Harrison told Access Hollywood of a possible fifth film in the Indy franchise.

Harrison said that in order to get the action adventure off the ground again, he and producers George Lucas and Steven Spielberg would need to be aligned on where to take the franchise.

"If there's something that the three of us can agree on then I'd love to do it," Harrison continued.

The actor added that one of the Indy triumvirate is currently penning some potential material.

"George is working on something now, but I haven't really seen anything on paper," Harrison said. "We've talked a little bit about it. It would be fun."

In the meantime, Harrison's next adventure film will be the sci-fi film "Cowboys & Aliens," which just wrapped filming and is due out next summer.

"I just finished 'Cowboys & Aliens' with Daniel Craig, directed by Jon Favreau," he said. "It was really a good experience and I had a great time."

Harrison said the project, about a group of settlers and Apache Indians who have to come together when aliens land in town, was something he is proud to be a part of.

"I had thought maybe I'd never get to make another cowboy movie," Harrison said. "They're so rare these days, but this was a really intriguing project and I think it's gonna be very exciting.

"It's a real cowboy movie, looks like a cowboy movie, feels like a classic cowboy movie, and then things happen, and then it goes back to being a cowboy movie with this added element," he continued. "And I think it's the kind of film that there's a real broad audience for. I'm very excited for it. I think it's going to be good."

I can't give you any official answer or industry-insider answer. Multiple names for the same model is extremely common, and some models (who aren't even that famous) can have six or seven names or more, depending on how many sites they've been on. Or the same site can use different names for the same model, which Met Art sometimes does.

My guess is that sites use a name for the model that they create, or that the photographer/content provider might create, for the sake of simplicity. You have some photos of a girl, she needs a name, we make up one. And if she appears at the same site with more photos, and we happen to remember the name we used before for her, let's use that same name again for her with the new photos.

Met Art occasionally will change the name of a model, sometimes by changing the letter used after the first name, or sometimes using an entirely different name. So the same model could be called "Anna E" or "Anna A" (not actual examples, I'm not going to bother to find cases where this happened, but I know that has been done).

I think that's because they don't realize they have photosets of that same model under a slightly different name. Call that carelessness.

Occasionally Met Art (and Metmodels, its sister site) will use an entirely different name for different photosets of the same model. My belief is that this is based on carelessness. They don't realize they have a photoset of the same model that was used before, so they need a name for the "new" model, and they make one up. I doubt this name change is a deliberate attempt to confuse subscribers, or to increase the number of "new" models that they can report (the more new models a site has, the more impressive the site is supposed to be, which has some basis in fact).

This topic of model names changing has been hit on before, on different threads.

It can certainly make finding all the material of a particular model much more difficult, when the name of the model can easily change from one site to another, or even at the same site.

A different version of the model naming problem is when a site gives a short name that can be used by many other models, even at the same site. You look for Barbara at some sites, and they can have 3 or 4 Barbaras, as well as Barbara A, Barbara B, Barbara C, etc.

And when you have a network of more than 1 site, where the name of the model is supposed to stay the same (because they have a search by model name feature), you search for material on a model named Barbara, because you like her content at DevilsFilm, the search reports that Barbara appears at Silverstone DVD (part of the same network), the search does not report what clips Barbara is featured in at Silverstone DVD. You go to Silverstone DVD, you look at the Barbara clips, and it's not the same model Barbara. So you look at the Barbara B and Barbara C and whatever at Silverstone DVD, and the Barbara you were looking for does not appear at Silverstone DVD.

The above search just happened for me a few days ago, I forget just what actual name I was searching for. And I gave up looking for additional material on that model, it's not worth the effort.

The model I was searching for has many different names associated with her, at different sites.

I don't think the models control the names they appear under. My idea is that the site controls the name of the model.

And most porn models don't really think of branding themselves to become a "star". Most porn models are in the business for a short time before they leave, I believe.

In conclusion:
1. It would be much easier to find a model's material if she was listed under a single name.
2. I don't believe the names used for the model are under the model's control.
3. I agree with your thinking that a model could build up brand value if she stuck with a single name. But since a model doesn't usually control her "name", and since most models aren't thinking of a career in porn but are more focused on making some short-term cash from a job, the use of multiple names for a model will continue. (And there are other reasons why models have multiple names. I'm sure some models would prefer to have a "stage name" that is never associated with their real name, etc.).

I do tend to ramble.

Simply put, I believe Internet porn will be around longer than you or I.

The next big thing in porn could be virtual reality, but that will probably first be made available through the Internet. And then home units could be introduced, but I would imagine that an Internet connection would provide a greater, more satisfying experience than a home-based unit.

And we might still be around to see it happen, at least in the early stages.

I mainly use a laptop for my porn.
The monitor is an LCD 15.6".
Pictures that are a lower resolution don't really look blurred, to me. Higher definition photos don't look any sharper in normal viewing.

The way to distinguish a higher definition photo from a lesser definition photo is if I examine a photo by enlarging it, so that I am only viewing a part of the entire photo on the monitor. That is when you can see that a photo has greater definition, because the details are more precise, less blurry, when you enlarge the photo so that only part of the photo is shown on the screen.

But when you view a photo in normal mode, the entire photo being shown on the full screen, there is no visible difference between a regular resolution photo and an ultra-high resolution photo.

I download photosets at the highest resolution available. But the truth is, I am wasting a lot of disk space doing that. A photoset that is 100 MB is just as good as the same photoset that is 400 MB or 1 GB.

If I were making posters of these photosets, then I would need the highest resolution possible. Because then the difference in the resolution becomes very apparent in a printed posted.

But on a 15.6" LCD monitor, there is no visible difference when viewing the photo in the regular way. You have to enlarge the photo, viewing only part of the photo to fill the entire screen, for the difference in resolution to become apparent.

I am assuming the photo was taken properly, in focus, well lighted, etc.

But even higher resolution won't make an out-of-focus photo appear to be in focus.

The difference in resolution is more apparent in videos than in photos. For videos, the higher the resolution, the more defined the moving picture you are watching, the better. More defined, more clarity, I don't know the proper terminology, but you get the idea. Higher resolution means better clarity for a video, and the difference is easily seen.

But for photos, the difference is not easily seen, unless you are making a poster, or you are examining the photo by magnifying it.

That is my understanding, anyway.

I look at a photoset sized 100 MB, and the same photoset sized 1 GB, and there is no visible difference in the photos. That is, viewing them in the normal manner.

I do view all my photos normally in full screen.

I sometimes watch videos in partial screen instead of full screen, because, as I said, the difference in resolution makes a big difference in the clarity of the video. And watching a lower resolution video in a smaller window makes the clarity seem better. Full screen video needs a much higher level of definition.

Edit01: I download all videos at the highest definition, because the viewing difference is so apparent between higher and lower definition. And I don't mind the extra space taken by high definition, because I can see the difference so easily. Edited on Nov 02, 2010, 12:01pm

I don't usually select videos or pictures by the most recent updates. There are some sites where the contents are listed in reverse chronological order, so those sites I will go by most recent to least recent in selecting videos/photosets to look at.
But my preferred method is to look for models that I think are attractive, and to look at whatever material that model has at that site. I look at the date the material was posted, to put it in order of looking at the model over time.

So at a site like MetArt, Femjoy, MPLStudios, etc., where there is a large amount of archived material, my preferred method of searching out material is to find models that I think are attractive, and to look at all of their material at that site. Thankfully, the sites I mentioned make it easy to find all or most of the material of a particular model.

I am much less concerned about the resolution than messmer. As long as the pictures are erotic, interesting, whatever, I don't need high resolution. Actually, the old Playboy photos of their Playmates are plenty enjoyable for me, because many of the models are lovely, and the photography (by the photographer) is high quality.

I've seen some Italian porn from the 1990s and 2000s that I thought were well done. The clips were from DVDs. The Italians can make porn that is as good as anyone else's. My only objection is the actors speak Italian, but some of the Italian models are lovely, so that makes up for the foreign language.

The Italians clips I saw were not vintage porn, but the quality and style were as good as any vintage porn I've ever seen.

Humor, and comedians, come in many varieties.
Insulting the audience (or some group) has long been a staple in humor.
Don Rickles made a career in that.
So I don't think a woman making fun of men is really original.

I clicked on your link, it brought up a page where there was a 30-second clip of a 20-something, long-haired blonde, who took off her clothes and felt herself. No audio track.

Didn't bother searching beyond that.

If you don't enjoy the insulting female porn performer, just ignore her and watch something else. It doesn't make sense to let her bother you. And if there are people who do like watching her, that's their business.

It's easier for me to say, than for you to follow that advice, because I haven't even seen her. But if I did see her perform, I would almost certainly turn away and watch something else after a few minutes or less.

There's plenty in life that can be irritating. I try to ignore the things as much as possible. Easier said than done, of course, but why get angry about crap you can't control?

APNewsBreak: Randy Travis and wife-manager divorce
AP

By CHRIS TALBOTT, AP Entertainment Writer Chris Talbott, Ap Entertainment Writer – 27 mins ago

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Randy Travis and his wife-manager Elizabeth Travis have divorced. Family spokeswoman Maureen O'Connor confirmed to The Associated Press on Friday that the divorce was final.

No further details were given, but an earlier statement that the couple had "parted ways" said Elizabeth Travis would continue to be Travis' personal manager. The statement said the couple would have no further comment and asked for "respect for their privacy during this time."

Neither could be reached for comment.

A petition for dissolution of marriage was filed by Randy Travis in Albuquerque, N.M., on Thursday. They have a home in Santa Fe. The petition calls for an equal split of assets, but offers no clues about why the Travises split, other than saying a "state of incompatibility exists between the parties."

The couple has had a 34-year business and personal relationship that began when a teenage Travis won a talent contest at the Charlotte, N.C., nightclub his future wife owned in the mid-1970s with her first husband. They married in 1991.

They moved to Nashville in the early 1980s. Travis was turned down by most of the record labels in town because he was considered too country.

Under her guidance, he eventually landed a record deal and put out his first album, "Storms of Life," in 1985. Soon the singer with the smooth baritone and straight-up style revolutionized the genre, spurring the so-called neotraditionalist movement that produced some of country's biggest stars.

Travis went on to sell millions of albums and has won more than two dozen major awards, including six Grammys. His latest came earlier this year when he won best country collaboration for "I Told You So," a duet with Carrie Underwood.

Not a big deal, but I seem to be seeing the use of a lot more condoms lately in European porn. Are they becoming more safety conscious, or what?

I think it's a step forward. If the actors are safer, that's a good thing. And the condoms are not really that visible anyway. You only see them in some of the shots. If you're aren't looking, you hardly realize they are being used. And they are removed at the end for the money shot, anyway.

I live in California, which is not really part of Europe.

But I would not pay $15 for a Big Mac. Actually, I like Burger King's whopper or Hardee's hamburgers or Wendy's hamburgers more than I like McDonald's Big Mac. I don't know why, I just never liked the Big Mac.

There are hamburgers that cost a lot more than the Big Mac at restaurants, but I've never paid anywhere close to $15 for a hamburger.

In your post, you misplaced the decimal point:
"The Frank is currently listed as .097 to the U.S. dollar"
It should be: The Swiss Franc is currently 0.97 to the U.S. dollar. But why haven't they replaced the Swiss Franc with the Euro? Even though California is better than the rest of the United States, we still accept U.S. currency instead of printing our own. So Switzerland should show the same type of generosity to their neighbors and convert to the Euro, so people won't have to look at those coins and bills and try to figure out what they are really worth.

If California printed its own currency, we could print enough dollars to pay our way out of the current deficit we've been running.

Getting back to the regional pricing issue:

There is an emotional aspect to regional pricing. If you see someone paying $5.00 for an item, it usually seems unfair for you to be charged $10.00 for that same item, unless there is a really special reason for the difference in prices.

I went to Europe. In Denmark (and some other country), I saw "natives" paying one price for cokes and other items, while us tourists (we were in a group) were being charged a higher price for those same items. At the time I thought it was unfair. Did we have the word "sucker" tattooed on our foreheads? Because we were tourists in a group? We were paying in the local currency, because we had exchanged our US dollars for the local currency. But we were still being charged a higher price.

So I can understand the anger (and outrage) some of the Europeans are expressing over being charged a higher regional price.

Edit01: I still don't know why we were being charged a higher price. Maybe the tour guide company set up the price difference and got a kickback from the sales they brought to the vendor. But if you wanted a coke or whatever, you paid a higher price, because you didn't have time to go wandering around to find a different place to buy food before you got back on the tour bus. I know very little about the business side of the Internet, but it sounds hard to believe that Netflix could be using 20% of US bandwidth at any time, peak or not.

Are that many people in the US (or elsewhere) downloading or streaming movies from Netflix?

Wouldn't there be some financial fee Netflix has to pay for the amount of traffic it provides to customers? The monthly membership fee to Netflix is tiny, compared to the huge amount of data (movies) that is being downloaded/streamed by many of their members.

At least some of the PU members complain or comment their ISPs limit the amount they can download each month, before slapping them with extra fees that can be very expensive.

It would not take very many movies before a monthly download limit would be reached. I think a regular movie (not high definition or blu ray) is 5 GB or more.

Language can be used in many ways for many different purposes. I agree that "amateur" is mainly used as a marketing/advertising tool: The amateur genre is supposed to be fresh, new girls that you (hopefully) haven't seen before, and that will be more exciting than the older models you are already familiar with.

"Amateur" can also be used as a word to criticize, like Drooler states: an experienced model who is acting bitchy can be called an "amateur". Or she could be called a "diva". The word "diva" could be used to criticize someone's actions, or, in a positive sense, to praise someone for being a star or at the top of their profession.

Language itself is extremely flexible, and there are some people who can use it extremely well and powerfully.

And there are other people who are more pedestrian with their words. I have found a lot of pleasure over time from reading books and articles that I thought were elegantly written, or that were humorous, or intelligent, insightful, or that showed many other interesting features.

Unfortunately, I was never able to create that level of writing. My ideas come across more in the form of scrambled eggs, hopefully edible, but not especially tasty.

Jagger's ex-wife angry about painting
Published: Sept. 19, 2010 at 1:50 PM

LONDON, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Texas model Jerry Hall, the ex-wife of rock star Sir Mick Jagger, said she is shocked by a painting depicting a man breastfeeding her son Gabriel.

Hall said artist Lucian Freud painted over her face in a picture of her breastfeeding Gabriel, the youngest of four children she had with the British rock star and founding member of the Rolling Stones, London's Daily Telegraph reported Sunday.

The artist allegedly painted the face of his male assistant over Hall's face in a portrait on display at the Dallas Museum of Art, the report said. Gabriel was born in 1997.

Hall said she was unable to complete her sittings for the portrait because she became ill, and said Freud, 87, replaced her features in the painting with those of his assistant, David Dawson.

"I was really upset about that," said Hall. "It is now hanging in the Dallas Museum. I went there and saw it. It was very upsetting. Gabriel looks beautiful, and you can kind of see me underneath. I am still there."

Hall, 54, said the artist further angered her when he told her she could purchase the painting if she didn't want it displayed.

"Lucian said I could buy it and take off the top layer," Hall said.

A man who collected Freud's work for more than 50 years reportedly said of his subjects: "I'm not sure how much he loves women -- for horses and dogs he shows affection; his portraits of the ladies are misogynous."

Hall was reportedly selling another of Freud's portraits of her at Sotheby's next month. It is a nude painting of her pregnant with Gabriel, the newspaper said.

"I want to downsize. I want to get a place in the country," Hall said.

Rolling Stone Keith Richards: Mick 'unbearable'
AP

– 2 hrs 58 mins ago

LONDON – Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards describes frontman Mick Jagger as unbearable in his soon-to-be published autobiography.

Richards says he and Jagger used to be friends but have been estranged for decades. The details about his strained relationship with Jagger are spelled out in Richards' book "Life," which will be published Oct. 26.

In an interview published Friday in The Times newspaper, Richards says he has given up drugs since he required brain surgery after falling from a tree in Fiji in 2006.

He says he and Jagger are discussing another possible Stones tour despite their differences.

I'm not a computer expert.

I don't know which anti-virus is the best. Different opinions from different people. I use Norton Internet Security, which came with the last laptop I bought, and it does a nice job. But the description for Norton 360 seems very good.

The price you quote, Norton 360 3.0 in Europe for 1 year for $140 is completely ridiculous.

You can bid for the Norton 360 3.0 on ebay, and get the same progam for $30 plus shipping (free shipping if you only want the activation code). I see an offer of $30 from a buy-it-now seller, which means no bidding. The seller has 99.5% positive feedback and a rating number of 866 sales, which means the seller is extremely likely to be highly reliable. And the purchase is covered by Ebay buyer protection (as long as you use PayPal to pay for the purchase). There is no fee or charge to use PayPal to make an Ebay payment. With Ebay buyer protection, if there should be a problem, and you can't resolve it with the buyer, Ebay will refund your purchase price (and shipping price) within a month or so.

Also, this seller states he has sold the item (Norton 360 3.0) to European customers. So the activation code should work in Europe as well as in the United States.

The version being sold for $30 allows for installation on up to 3 PCs (some versions only allow installation on 1 PC, or some other number of PCs), with 1 year of updates.

Or you could bid on the item (Norton 360 3.0) from some other seller, and try to get it cheaper.

But $140 is completely ridiculous.

Edit01: I see a different offer, to sell the 3 PC, 1 year Norton 360 code from a buy-it-now seller for $18.99. That is for the activation code only (no box, no CD). But you already have the program installed on your PC. And if you need a new copy, you can download the program from Norton or a mirror site. No shipping fee on this offer (activation code will be emailed to you). When your current membership/subscription is ready to expire, enter the activation code and you will have extended your subscription for 1 more year.

This offer is also covered by ebay buyer protection (as long as you pay for the purchase with paypal).

This seller states the activation code is good for all language versions(German, French, etc).

If the code does not work for Danish, you can always learn German or French (joke). The code should work for Danish, if that is what is on your PC. Edited on Oct 14, 2010, 08:24am

Popularity is a funny thing. Eli Wallach is a major character actor, who has been in continuous demand for over 60 years in plays and movies. He's played leading roles on stage, but never got leading man status in movies. Although he is and was a major recognized talent in movies.

As I said before, I thought he was great in The Magnificent Seven and in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Calif. porn actor tests positive for HIV (AP)
Source: AP 1 hour, 18 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - A porn actor has tested positive for HIV at a California clinic, setting off a scramble to track down partners who may have been exposed, and spurring two major production companies to suspend filming.

The actor was a patient of the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, a San Fernando Valley clinic that caters to actors in the multibillion-dollar adult entertainment industry. The actor's identity and gender have not been released.

Clinic spokeswoman Jennifer Miller told the Los Angeles Times that efforts are under way to notify individuals who may have had sexual contact with the actor. Miller did not return calls or e-mail from The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Wicked Pictures and Vivid Entertainment told the Times that they stopped production as a precaution when the positive test was revealed.

Los Angeles County public health officials and state occupational health officials have said the widespread lack of condom use on porn sets puts performers at risk for contracting HIV and other diseases. Major adult film producers, including Hustler's Larry Flynt, have spoken out against the use of condoms in porn because viewers find them to be a turnoff.

Last year, a woman tested positive for HIV immediately after making an adult film, and in 2004, an HIV outbreak affecting several actors spread panic in the industry and briefly shut down productions at several California studios.

Porn actors are required by law to test negative for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases within 30 days of going to work on a film.

State workplace safety officials at Cal/OSHA are considering strengthening rules designed to prevent transmission of disease through bodily fluids to specify the use of condoms in the adult entertainment industry.

Currently, the same laws that call on health care professionals to wear gloves and other protective barriers when dealing with patients applies to the adult film business, but the laws don't make specific provisions for porn.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation President Michael Weinstein said his organization has been advocating for a tightening of the rules, and the adult entertainment industry and AIM clinic would "do everything in its power to prevent us from knowing who was impacted."

Weinstein said the latest case is the ninth HIV-positive adult film star to be treated at the AIM clinic since the 2004 outbreak.

Chief Counsel for Cal/OSHA Amy Martin said the clinic has been uncooperative in providing state regulators with key information by citing a patient's federal right to medical privacy.

But the clinic has even refused to provide redacted copies of employment histories for infected actors, which would allow the state to investigate porn production companies without naming the sick patients, Martin said.

HIV is spread most often through sexual contact, but can also be contracted through sharing contaminated needles for drug use, infected blood products, or babies born to or breast-fed by infected women. It is the cause of AIDS, an immune disease that gradually destroys the body's ability to fight illness.
