They say beauty is only skin deep, and she looks extremely woman like to me. I say to let her, or at least rethink the rules. Indeed very true. However, there are different degrees of"wrong". Going 5 mph over the speed limit is wrong, but going 50 mph over is really wrong. It is looked onto as such. Society certainly would see them as different levels, just as they would with downloading pirated content as compared to downloading a video of a 5 year old blowing her creepy uncle. Sometimes I wonder if the feds or whoever are more concerned with kid porn or with copyright infringement. There is a lot more money backing the big hollywood guys. While all these companies talk about how they want to stop child porn I doubt they put there money where the mouth is. Spending time and money on that does not really help their interest. You are kinda right. I have about 12 years of internet and have seen extremely little, and none on the open net. One of my download methods I would type in "shower" for example and thousands of files with that in the name show up. They are not thumbnailed or previewable in anyway. The vast majority of the time this is fine. But, what if one of the files is named "My girl in shower"? Well that could very well show up and from that title one does not know what is in it. It could be a 50 year old, a 20 year old, or a 10 year old. There can be no indication by the file name. How many jpegs are named 001.pjeg or DSC_001.jpeg? The same can be said for that file name. The Usenet can still be the wild west at times. Same can go for P2P, but I refuse to use those. If you are browsing the traditional internet you will not run into anything. I would tend to believe that anything you found there would be a url to federal prison. The only thing you might find is those user-submitted ex-gf sites and that can be questionable, but not obvious. Google teen models and look at a 16 year old and look at a 18 year old, a legit model site of course. You will find that in many cases that are damn near impossible to tell apart, which makes me wonder about those ex-gf sites because you know full well they are not carding people. What really gets me is the illegal content that can be accidentally downloaded. Everyone in this forum knows my download habits, 27/7 and balls to that wall. There was a huge bust I heard about while at work on CNN, so I started looking into the laws and the sentences they hand down to people. One guy clicked a bad link, purposely looking for child porn, and the feds game him 17 years!. This guy (around 20) was found to have one picture on his system, buried in the cache that was about 5k. This picture was tiny, sub-thumbnail size and extremely grainy, after staring at it for a while people could sorta tell what it was supposed to be. That was all they had, and 17 years!!!  Well, aside from the fact the guy admitted to it all, but he clicked on a tracked link so he was screwed anyway.So I get home all worried that I am being watched and worried there could be a few on my system. I download a lot off of usenet, that is a large part of how I decide who to subscribe to and who not too, but that is a different thread. The point is that so much of what you get off there is blindly downloaded and you do not know what is actually brought in until it is sorted through. When downloading 150 gigs a day that yields a lot to sort through. So I literally go through every drive I have. I was pleased o find that I did not have much of it. There was a little that was questionable, and nothing that was obvious. Still, not looking for 17 years so into the bin it went and a little file shuffling to have those drive sectors overwrote. If nothing else it shows effort to avoid the shit. My understanding is that a girl (or boy) that is underage does not have to be nude to for it to be considered porn. If the picture (video) is overly sexual or is focusing on the genitals it counts, nude or not. Dressing a 30 year old and pretending to be underage counts the same, but you have to make the viewer believe the girl is underage. A schoolgirl outfit does not cut it, but if she says she is in the fourth grade they have something. They also look at the age of the child. The older the child the less bring the hammer down, to an extent anyway. So if you are caught with pre-pubescent girls it is the worse, not only because it is the most fucked up, but because it is the most obvious. Pubescent is a little better (not really the right word) but most should be able to tell that the budding breasts are underage and the girl is around 12 or whatever. Post-pubescent is where it would get a little gray. This is the area where someone could swear the chick was 18 but was actually 15, and why they ID check. In these cases they should look at the material and decide if a reasonable person would conclude the girl is 18, or could be. If someone sends you a picture of a big breasted 17 year old you will not be (hopefully!) going to prison because you would just assume that the girl was 18 or more. Now if she is holding up her ID and it says she is 17, not sure what happens there. Probably up to the judge. But better can that picture before you have to find out! Another big thing is intent. There is accidental exposure. General (only generally because I am sure some have fried anyway) if an obvious picture is found by you and deleted right away you are safe even it it was found. This assumes you did not seek it out. They are going to look to see if it was ever accessed, hard to convince a jury of wrongdoing if you had no clue it was there. If it was accessed they will look to see if it was then deleted without delay. Again, should not be canning people if they did the right thing and promptly deleted it. They are also going to look to see if they can figure out if someone else could have put it there, such as a PC repair shop (has happened). Meanwhile your life is kicked in the balls. This is why I spent several evenings combing through my huge collection (what a cluster fuck of a collection!) looking to be sure it was not containing any underage stuff. I really should not admit this, particularly online, but it is relevant and really bugging me. In my many years of online porn wondering I did run across a child porn video a while back. I did not know what it was when opening it. I quickly found out what it was. There was a guy (no face) and two girls, maybe 12 and 14. But there was a third girl, maybe 7. The other girls were directing her and not letting her get away. She was basically being raped, by them making her perform oral on this older dude. She was not being held down or anything and she was doing the motions on her own, but I think she knew she did not have much of a say in the matter. I only seen a few seconds of the video...I could not stomach any more than that, and even that was too much. The face of this poor little girl who knew she was being forced into something wrong really kicked me in the gut. I almost cried after seeing her face, seriously. Hell, I am getting a little choked up writing this. I have seen some super fucked up stuff on the internet, including guys literally cutting off their own junk, but nothing has ever disgusted me and scarred me like that. I could not even imagine what that did to the poor girl. I am sure sometimes girls do this and do not realize what they are doing, and they are probably better off for it, but this one knew. I only saw her face for half a second, the time it takes to realize what this is and close it out, but that is a very haunting half a second.  I make damn sure my collection is 18 plus! Right click "My Computer" Select "Manage" Select "Disk Management" Right click on the drive you want to change, select "Change drive letter and paths" Select "Change" Select a new letter. Your short cuts method might work best if the assign different drive letters to each of them. Start with z and work up for example. That way when you plug the drive in it should always come up at Y, for example, and no other drive will do that so there is no interference. I remember those days too. Paid $160 for my 160gb drive, and that was big at the time. It will not take anywhere near as long. Actually they are not that far behind now. I have seen 1tb solid state drives, only problem is they are in the $3000 area and up. They are also PCI interfaced, so they go faster than a $20 lap dance. Hard drives took so long because HD content was just beginning to come out. People also started switching to digital cameras and internet connections became fast more widespread. So at first there was not too much need for huge jumps in capacity. Back in the day no one ever thought they could fill up a 100 mb drive, now I have downloaded 100 mb in the time it has taken my type this far. Manufactures know that there is demand for large capacity consumer drives and they will be a race to get the largest ones out there. Will be a few more years for the price to become low enough for mass storage, but it will get there. Been a while since I have updated this. Had a few major upgrades since then. Purchased a fair amount of capacity since then and have built a few RAID systems. Everything is rack and rail mounted, cleaner and looks cooler. Not sure on the amount of storage capacity I have now. I am going to guess 95 TB give or take a few. I can not find them all. You read that right, I have actually lost a few hard drives during the move to my recently purchased house. I think they were a few 320's with stuff from videobox on them. I have two Norco 4020 cases, 20 drive backplane 4u cases. A LSI 8888elp raid card, using Chenbro SAS expanders in each of the backplane cases. Those cases are pretty cool, basically 20 drives connected to my computer using a single cable. Have found a few issues with this setup though. Micha,thank you for the emails. It looks like that must have been a short run sale on the 3TB for $130. Currently they only have 2TB for $129. And even with that they are only allowing people to buy one and have no online sales of it. Physical store my offer different deals. From their website's hard drive section: "Notice to Customers: Due to the flooding in Thailand and the foreseen shortages on hard drives, Fry's Electronics is limiting hard drive sales to a quantity of one per customer at this time. Please contact a Frys.com Customer Service representative..." Periodically we see ads for hard drive being sold at or below cost in order to gain public interest and attention to that store. When they do that they have very limited quantities, kinda like a black friday sale. Unfortunately people like myself are feeling a heavy squeeze right now. At this point I am down to only 2 western digital 2TB green drive left empty. What is a porn hoarder to do? Check HERE Hard drive prices really did double for a while, and some even more. I watched a 2 TB drive go from about 80 up to over 200. No joke, I about shit a brick. This happened right as I was about to build a few new arrays.  Some of this can be locational. Really not sure how it impacted other countries. Fortunately the prices did not stay "too" high too long. There was a large number in inventories that helped smooth it over a little. Even now the best deals I can find are 5.5 cents/gig and prior to the flooding I was paying less than 3.3 cents/gig. It is slowly returning to "normal" although that will take a good amount of time yet. Every few weeks I notice better deals coming along. I am thinking six month or so we should start seeing them down in the 4 cents/gig area, but would be thrilled if I am wrong and it is sooner. 3 TB for $130? Please send me the information on that because I want them! Newegg today has a sale for a 3 TB Seagate for $160, limit of one at that price. The cheapest deal on ebay (currently) is $150 for a 3000 rpm Seagate (slow....) unless in a large array. And even that is the absolute lowest I have seen since the floods. $240 was the lowest I could find for the 4 TB drives and even that was back ordered. On to the topic of SSDs. I agree that the storage size will go up fast, but I do expect to see the physical size to increase as well. There is no reason at all for them to not take advantage of the 3.5" form factor. It is a standard size that would require absolutely no change in the infrastructure to support. Simply take out the HHD and screw in the SSD. A 3.5" drive has 4 times the volume of a 2.5" drive, so that could offer large capacity increases without requiring extra development. Laptops are the only things that really require the 2.5" size specifically. They were made with that in mind anyway since people wanted a lighter, non rotating drive that used a little less power. If the price per gb and the physical size matches I will certainly jump over to them. Never forget, connecting the drives is not free. Now for the original post. I have been frequently going back and looking at stuff I downloaded years ago. A lot of good stuff, and a good amount of amazing stuff I did not know I even had. Even finding whole websites I had forgot about, unjustly. I have thought of this as well, but it is difficult when files are moved around a lot and are spanned across many drives that are not always active. Linking in excel would take a long time, as Cybertoad has mentioned, and that is even considering a small collection. The program you mentioned was call Porn Commander I believe, or something very similar. Hard drives are still much more practical than SSD because of the $/GB figures. It is easy to find HDD for $0.06/GB and hard to find SSD for $0.80/GB. So while HDDs have doubled in price due to the flooding they are still the better bet. I am not too sure about poor guys, many get internet and old computers free or near it. Older guys, I absolutely agree there. Many of you who have been on this site for a while know I have a massive collection, that also extends to dvds and magazines. I am still convinced that in a few years we will see much more decline in dvd sales. The internet will see to that. DSL and cable are still reaching people. It is cheaper, easier, and feels relatively anonymous. Who can afford $40+ for a dvd? I am thinking that dvd sales really do not have that much life left. Playboy I a slowly disappearing thing. It probably would be gone if it did not have a long history and such good name recognition. Their online portion really needs to be stepped up. Simple, you do not play games on this PC. Actually, once set up you do not have a monitor hooked up to it. You only connect to it via your network from your normal computer. The only point of this is to hold all of your files in a place that is easy to get to but does not need to be on all the time while you are using your computer for other things, or while other people may be using it. I had done this exact things a while back using mostly extra parts I had. It works fairly well and really is not difficult. It will not be super fast but certainly is good enough for most porn browsing. As for prebuilt NAS,let me know if you want to purchase something like that. I would be glad to charge you those prices minus a few percent for incentive. Prebuilt NAS is very expensive. If you need something as small as those boxes just use a Shuttle sized pc case and put a backplane in it. It is more expensive than above said method, but certainly much cheaper than prebuilt NAS. I am all about Call of Duty. Have them all, beat most of them on veteran. Can not believe no has mentioned this game yet. Same goes for Halo, although I do not play it. I actually just finished playing Modern Warfare 2 when I got on here. I used to play a lot of Command and Conquer, I like Generals the best. Anyone remember Worms? That is another classic. I have played a lot of Grand Theft Auto, can not go wrong with those. Daiblo is a another good one. Seriously, the fees are just made up. There is no reason for them since the exchange rates are known and it is all electric anyway. They used to do it back in the day because there actually was a person exchanging the cash and they needed paid. There is no one doing that when we buy something online. This is exactly the same as the "luxury" tax we pay on tires. Yes, having rubber tires on your car is considered a luxury. Way back in the day having rubber tires was actually a luxury and thus was taxed, and since governments do not like to give up sources of revenue...we still pay a luxury tax on what most consider a necessity. Bottom line, these charges are not needed, they cost the bank/credit card nothing, and they are a rip off. Funny, I have been hit with this twice in the past month, one just a few days ago. The mother-in-law got it as well. I just fixed that today. This time it appeared as if everything was deleted out of my personal folders, My Documents and such. It is possible to get rid of this shit without redoing your whole system, but once it is in there is a good chance it has opened a door to allow it back in. You can find recent purchase codes which suppress software but these change frequently. Download this "Paragon Backup & Recovery™ 2010 Free Advanced" software, or something similar. While your computer is not messed up or after a fresh install and keep it somewhere else. You need to make a back up image and keep it on a different drive. Also, you need a second computer or at least an extra drive with OS that can be used in your current computer. Can be an older, smaller drive. I know it can seem like a lot of work, but trust me, starting over from scratch is much more difficult and if you do not have your installation disks it can be a total nightmare. Do yourself a favor, make a complete back up image, not just a back up of your important personal files. I sincerely hope no one ever has to use the back up, but it is worth the piece of mind of having. I am also a big fan of sites not going the streaming route. Can download streams often, but that is a pain. I have made it a practice to avoid streaming sites. I do not feel I get my moneys worth out of them. I have a fast internet here, but it is not faster than my hard drives so skipping around the videos is much easier for downloads. I have been using Internet Download Manager, IDM, for several years with good luck. It so happens that the review staff here use it was well, so that makes their reviews even more useful. There are other good managers out there as well. There are periodic sites that do not work. Sometimes if your are creative you can get it to work on sites it otherwise would not. I must also agree with Drooler. Some sites have more important things to address than download speed, but it is still important none the less. Not many people host their own stuff anymore, so the excuses for slow speeds are not very convincing. If I were to make a site I would be paying someone else with a server farm and direct internet access to host it for me. When sites are slow for everyone it is because they are being cheap and not paying for enough bandwidth. Because one person decides to stay on the low end does not mean it is not important to those of us who pay for high end. I hardly ever have issues. VB was not the fastest site but it was up there. I currently have a 15 Mbps and would max out for days on end. Could be something in the path. I have not been where I got my fastest connection in a while to download so I can not truly tell you if they have started any sort of throttling, but I would not think that they had. I had a particular site sustain 90 Mbps for the duration of downloading their entire site. Listen up! You download speed sucks because you are not using it right! You need to use multiple connections. For example, videobox would give me about 5-10 MBit/s using a single connection, but when using multiple i was getting 60 MBit/s and this was 4 years ago. You really need to be using a download manager now. Most have the ability to download many files at once, thus increasing overall speed greatly. They also can download a single file as multiple pieces, achieving the same thing. Many sites can use up most of your connection, you just need to give them enough lanes to drive on. If you do not need a screen built on then a desktop can still be the best choice. They make small laptop mice, and roll up keyboards. These are small, light, and fairly cheap. Larger screens also mean more room for goodies inside the laptop. Check out THIS on Newegg. This or similar products might be something to consider. Certainly cheaper than a laptop. Just add a small travel mouse and roll up keyboard and you are good to go. I know I am sounding like a laptop is a bad option, but it is not. There certainly are good laptops and if the idea of having a built in screen and all is appealing than a laptop is your best choice. The biggest question to ask yourself is "Do I actually need it to be portable?" If the answer is yes, then continue on, but if the answer is no, or not really, than a desktop is the best choice. Laptops have much less power for the price, particularly on the video aspect. If you travel a lot than a laptop is right for you, but if you are at home mostly than a desktop is the best choice. If you need portability at times, then a lower level laptop might be appropriate. What it comes down to is whether or not the portability is worth the trade of for price or performance. I know you might think you do not need performance, but it is worth more than many realize, particularly for porn viewing. The incredible pictures and videos being put out these days really do benefit from a strong system. Download a full HD video and try skipping around the video to find the good bits on a even a medium quality machine and see how long you can bare it. Bottom line is that quality porn viewing should be done on a quality machine. Not saying to spend thousands by any means! Like a many other things it is a compromise. Something worth considering is that the there are limits imposed already. I pay for 15 MBit and that is what I get. Previously I paid for 3 and that is what I got all month. They limit what they want you to get per month by limiting the transfer rate. Tier pricing is bogus. Lets be real, it is too cheap to meter in reality. Much the same as what they said for nuclear power and hydro. Like a nuke plant the internet have infrastructure to build which is the main cost. Price per mile of cable is the same regardless of how much it is used when it is done. If it is tapped out all they need to do is place more, which also means they are charging more customers and/or charging for higher transfer rates. If everyone in an area is a download whore such as myself then the company needs to upgrade the lines. Obviously that cost will be past down to the customer. As for what is on the lines, a 1 is a 1, a 0 is a 0. No reason to care what the sequence is.Charging extra for Netflix and so on is just a "because I can" tactic. No real merit to it. Also something to keep in mind, particularly when referring to the flat fee for internet and and electricity, is that actual real time costs change. Looking at the power industry for example, there are time when the price of a unit of power is many times higher than what you pay for it even at retail pricing particularly in high population areas. At the same time, the price for a unit of electricity can actually be negative. In other words, there are people being PAID to TAKE power of the system. I do not know that they same would be true for bandwidth, but certainly its pricing can change depending on the time of the day (nights) if there is congestion. What it comes down to is that they are charging insane amounts for extra bandwidth for three reasons. First, it is easy money plain and simple. Second, it is to discourage people from using a lot so that they company can avoid upgrades that would be necessary if they wanted their customers to keep up with the growing internet. Lastly, they do not want people streaming TV or watching Netflix because many of us have internet providers that also offer cable TV. That programming is worth money to them.
