hehe, that search engine is a beast! I love it - now if they can just make the filters able to switch to excluding categories too... Maybe in the future, their site talks about how they custom built engine :-)

No worries - the DRM was a serious detractor on GGG, it is about bloody time they removed it. I was just making a little bit of stink because they recently were removing it (and finally finished) and since porn users sorts the reviews by when the review was written, not when the reviewer was a member... well you get the point - so many thanks for updating the review, much appreciated and many props for not getting pissed at me for complaining - other people might have told me to blow it out my ass, lol
And my review is very much outdated at this point... I need to rejoin and re-review it! :-D

Yes - DRM is definitely a major flaw for a site and agreed, shame on them - but much love to them for finally seeing the light! I just didn't want users to be scared away from a site that has so bizarre but quite interesting porn. Thanks for updating the review :-)

I completely agree with your distaste for DRM, it is a huge pain in the ass and users need to be warned of it when it is being used. My point of posting the comment was two part - first part being that I really like German Goo Girls and don't want users to run away because the latest review (your at the time of posting the comment) basically screamed "DRM, run away! run away!" (prior to being updated), and secondly, just to draw attention to the fact that this interesting site has finally gotten rid of its biggest flaw.

Sadly this is the problem with 6 month old reviews - GGG went DRM-free officially on November 27th, 2008.
I see that you note this in the pros, but the only thing taken away from a cursory glance a user would be that the site uses DRM, and that is simply not the case. It would be appreciated if the Cons were changed to "Used to use DRM" as that would be accurate.

Interesting - I didn't realize some of these sites weren't native to this network. I do hope they increase the resolution, but it is still a nice network to be sure.

That is what is so boggling - if their site looked like a throw-back to the 90's, I'd expect the ads. Other than the ads, the site is quite polished, easy to use and contemporary and rather attractive. I have to give them credit that they've obviously designed the site with the ads in mind - they are jutting out and screwing up the page design.

Thanks! I'm hoping they'll fix the negatives because they are mainly technical errors in nature. I understand that re-encoding the movies is a big task, especially since they have over 500 of them, but at least they could post the newest ones in a larger resolution. The ads - while they don't hinder searching - it is just bad form... and annoying.

Honestly, this network should get very high marks as it manages to provide interesting, humorous and original content while using many professional porn stars we all know well. The video is well lit and well shot – they play around with different video styles, imitating amateur video in some sites or music videos and so on – though their preferred style is mostly the standard gonzo documentary style. However, they actually do spend quite a bit of time dedicated to chatting with their performers. A number of their sites actually require acting from their stars – this either works or fails miserably, but either way it remains funny.
The keyword search engine is respectable and easy to use. The updates and model lists are sortable and available both as site specific or network wide. So finding the content is not difficult and though at 500+, making your way through all the scenes would take some time. Deciding if something is worth downloading is easy with both screenshots and streaming Flash at your disposal. Photos can be downloaded in zips and video scenes can be downloaded as one file - no DRM, no download restrictions, and fast downloads (1 MB/s). Unfortunately, this PHP based website isn't exactly Download Manager friendly – you can queue up downloads, but sometimes a download won't engage properly at first and instead you'll just download a useless PHP page. This means time consuming baby sitting of the downloads.
Unfortunately the negatives don't stop there. The videos are all the same size, 512x288, that is less than DVD quality and that is simply too small in this age of HD. If you watch it at that resolution, it is crisp, well lit and well filmed, but as you enlarge it, things get fuzzy. This is a huge problem for what is primarily a video site. The newest photos are huge and great, but you'll find the oldest photos are similarly too small. The second big negative is the ridiculous saturation of advertising. They have every advertisement short of Google Ad Words - many of the ads flash or scroll or act annoyingly in some other fashion. Finding ads presented to me within a site I pay to access is an immeasurable outrage. I seriously am astonished that a network with this much polish still has ads as back-up funding.
If Porn Pros re-encodes their videos to bring themselves into the DVD age (let alone the Blu-ray age) and sends those ads back to the abyss, I recon they'll be one of the finest networks out there. Their content is fun and entertaining, their site is easy to use and they don't even forget us photo lovers. I want to put their score in the 90's – but right now I just can't. |

That is wonderful news about the end of the reign of DRM at GGG! I've been waiting for that day for many years, and have signed up multiple times despite it (and as I have ways, tedious ways but still ways, around it).
As for your Con about the video style - I certainly understand how you could hate it. It is extremely harsh, makes much use of being hand held and the sets and costuming are aggressively unpolished. However, having watched years of John Thompson's work, I assure you this is very intentional and the camera operators are quite skilled. Despite making use of the mobility of a hand held camera (shooting extreme low angles, between appendages, et cetera) rarely do their videos exhibit that nauseating shaking and lost sense of purpose (aiming randomly around the scene). So my point is simply that they have developed this look and maintain it quite diligently - while I would never photograph a scene this way myself, I fear GGG wouldn't quite be the same without that style. It is the type of pornography that still manages to polarize people, and that is admirable in a society that is so numb to so much.
Anyway, thanks for the interesting review and the good news.

Good to know! The Canon 5D is a very respectable camera and usually doesn't exhibit that massive amount of noise seen in the high res samples nor the auto focus mishaps. I wish I could afford a camera of such a level. If he is Canon fan, that would no doubt explain the noise produced by the older camera.
So please do update those high res samples! I doubt I'm the only photography freak that would be worried by those. Thanks to your response however, I will be moving the site up to high priority for review as I do like Skokoff's style in choice of models, poses and sets as shown on the preview pages.
Also, it is always nice to see that webmasters do take notice to the site. Cheers!

Indeed JPEG artifacts can be a villainous sort, but do not appear to be the perpetrators in this case. Still, the models are quite fetching and the photographer has a well developed style. I will certainly keep an eye on this site. Thanks for the engaging review.

How is the full resolution photo quality? I just went through the photo galleries section of their tour and while I like the models and the poses, I was a bit stunned by the lack of image quality in their high resolution examples. The photos had tons of digital noise and it looked like the auto focus might be a bit off. Despite seemingly nice lighting, sets and props, I'm guessing that they are using a rather low end DSLR camera. My Nikon D50 honestly shows less noise in its photos - and it retailed at around $600. Maybe they are using a low-end Canon. Are these examples relevant to their latest work?

lol, in a sense, but usually that is a more rudimentary download manager. The one I always recommend is DownThemAll! - it integrates directly with Firefox (meaning it pulls passwords from Firefox so you don't have to remember them) and has tons of sweet features like Download Acceleration (which I rarely use), downloading all the links on a page and so on.

Yes, as I had mentioned, 30 years ago it was certainly still quite a big deal. Though I must disagree with the comment that "as well as no black women in porn of any kind" - my pin-up favorite Sylvia McFarland is evidence of that. I'll grant you that black women were less visible in main-stream porn, no doubt - but if you had the motivation (and time and money), it was available.
As for the contrast in color, that can be interesting, but I find the novelty of it wears off quickly and then what keeps the scene alive is the performance itself and the attractiveness of the performers as well. A simple contrast of color will not support a scene for me. Though it must be said it could add that hard to describe x-factor that can make a good scene into a great scene. So, that all said, that is why I find it somewhat silly that it remains an established niche.

Have you actually had your account disabled for doing this? I only ask because I regularly use a download manager on a sister site ATK Natural & Hairy and have never run into an issue. I do limit my manager to one connection at a time however. Takes a bit longer but I find not doing that upsets many adult sites.
