I think if you've been a member before and have all of the old stuff, then the site is fine for downloading a few new things throughout the month.
If you're a new member, then it's going to be a lot of trouble and impossible to make a dent in downloading the catalog.

CDs, as storage, are done. DVDs are still in the running until blank Blu-rays become much cheaper. Externals are overkill for single file backups/transfers and thumb drives are slightly too expensive for throwaway uses.
Audio CDs still have a lot more life though.

I came here to say this. What's also strange is that the main site takes you to the place that asks you to call to cancel. But if you follow the link in the confirmation e-mail (mine was fameaid, which looks slightly different than famecare), then you can cancel after entering the six digits. It's really unsettling when there are so many different places to try and cancel instead of the main site or main billing site.

I'm not sure if it's still the same layout, but it's terrible. Too many clicks just to read a scene's description, see preview pics, or watch the trailer before finally downloading. And the HD file sizes are so large that I want to see all of those things before committing.

A little bit. It can provide plenty of atmosphere and context. People gathered for Christmas dinner...gift shopping...scary prank war...rednecks huntin' turkey...etc. I hate to see a costumed Santa banging elves or something though.

Sometimes it's good. Talking throughout the scene is a bad idea, but a little banter at the beginning or a fun comment early on is fine.

Streaming sites, screenshots, and trailers make finding the high quality and exclusive stuff easy. Unless you are blindly joining small shady sites then it shouldn't be much of a problem. I always have a small fear of not being able to cancel or having strange charges to my card though. Even the big sites have a few people who had troubles.

I see this is an older review but...I've only downloaded videos but I've had no problem with my download manager or dl speeds (usually 800+kb/s). The filenames are terrible, but I don't think there has been a single site where I didn't have to rename the files to include dates, titles, and/or names.
