720 don't have the hard drive space or the broadband speed for anything big, I like to stick around the 1GB mark

Generally 720 is as high as I go. Even with fast downloading where to keep it all is an issue.
If I really like the content I'll download 1080 for my very favourite scenes only.
I haven't joined any 4k sites yet.

I USE 720.
I WATCH ON A 14" OR 20" MONITOR.
SO A 1080 FILE WOULD BE WASTED SPACE ON MY HARD DRIVE, WITHOUT ANY IMPROVEMENT IN THE VISUAL IMAGE.
THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD.
AND IT SEEMS TO BE TRUE, AS FAR AS I CAN TELL.

I try to use 1080i as I burn DVDs with my downloads. 720 does work fine, but I do like the higher res.
4K is too much. I'm not as young as I was and neither are my eyes to notice the difference.

Again, like most I think space is the issue for me in that I stick to 720 most of the time. The difference between 720 and 1080 isn't great enough to justify the extra 3 gigs a scene. My preferences would be different if I watched porn on a big screen but watching on my monitor is plenty for me.

I usually stay with 720i unless it's not available.
I could probably go as high as 1080i but don't see the point as it won't make the scene any better. It stands to reason that I avoid 4k like the plague because I truly don't see the point and would run out of space or have to invest in bigger drives to save all those 4k videos.

Most of my stuff is 720 but I just built a new PC for gaming and VR with 16TB just for data, so lately I've been downloading more in 1080. The VR resolution for my HTC Vive is 3840x1920 so those files are HUGE!

I always aim for 1080p, but will settle for 720p or even 540p if there's no higher resolution & it's a scene I really want.
I built my own gaming rig that I use as my main machine now. It can handle videos that are 1080p and up to 60 fps just fine, and I have plenty of spare hard drives to use for storage. However, it is not powerful enough to handle any sort of VR or play 4k videos smoothly.
4k seems rather pointless to me since not many people have sprung for big expensive 4k tvs or monitors.
