My thought is that the amount of content, type and size of content, and frequency of updates shouldn't justify higher membership fees. Rather, it justifies members maintaining/continuing their membership. In other words if they keep their members happy, the members will stay loyal to the site - creating a mutually beneficial relationship for both parties.

I agree with Marquis. I think for a number of reasons, sites have raised prices to get the most they can out of someone after a month assuming they will leave. Perhaps they can have a program that allows greater access to the site as you continue membership (I think Abbey Winters does this to an extent) to KEEP someone a member. I guarantee I would spend more to stay connected to a site for a longer period of time. So, a variety of picture sizes isn't really going to do that.

Content types and sizes have a complex relationship with the site material in the first place. The industry has previously kept bang upto date with IT developments. However, now its a big business and many sites take shortcuts.
Some sites have photo and video shoots that are complex to set-up - models, machines, electrodes, buckets of lard etc. If they have 4 high quality updates a month then this is fair play.
If a site is based on a 'general' theme and they are using syndicated content, then everyday is fair play.
marquis58401 is absolutely right; that it is about keeping the members happy. This means not only the right content well presented, but creativity as well.
I rather hope that this site itself will become a driving force for the best sites to become truly great and that scam and slack sites are starved of revenue.

I agree. A reasonably priced site like Twistys and VideoBox with very frequent and excellent updates have kept me as a member over the long haul.
Other sites that cost more and update once a week get me for a month only, then I'll leave and wait for several months for them to do their updates, then return.
Financially, by and large all sites are fixed cost operations. Whether they have 1 or 500 members, their costs are generally the same (except when the need to add servers because of popularity arises). Thus the sites with a reasonable price will make a lot more money than those with $29.99 and up price tags.

I really can't afford anything over $30 a month, so that is a hard ceiling for me, no matter the content.
Having said that, I don't mind paying a little more for higher quality content in two forms:
1. If a site offers HD Quality videos, I will pay a little more for that, at least until it becomes standard to expect.
2. If a site is really unique or of exceptional quality, I'll pay a little more.
But competition is a great thing. If there is a demand for a service, including niche porn, someone will fill that need and drive the price down.

Hmmm.
As things are at the moment, with HD videos not being the norm, perhaps HD 1080i videos do justify a higher membership due to the much increased server storage and bandwidth required.
But I think that a site that doesn't offer HD videos, but offers the file in various formats such as WMV/RM/MOV shouldn't have an increased price because of this.
