RustyJ (Suspended) I just guess most of the porn is very clearly made for men and less women are really interested in any.

David19 (0) I responded with "Other please". The question makes an assumption--that, indeed, few women participate in this site. Since most participants have gender-neutral handles here, I want to see the evidence supporting the assumption you are making--one that I am not convinced of in the least--before I will respond with anything other than an "Other please". Please present the evidence underlying this question. Thank you.

David - Hey! Don't pick on our Graymane, friend to all and father figure to some.

The assumption is shared by more than just Graymane and the question centers around participation not member gender (Khan could tell us the latter number). Generally there are about 25 active participants who take part in discussions on a regular basis and had you been one of that number, you might have reached the same conclusion.

KET924aab (0) I think most women have very negative attitudes toward porn, in part perhaps because they have fears that they won't measure up to the generally hot young women who do porn. I think they also reject the notion of casual sex that is often times implied by porn. In addition, I have only rarely encountered women who actually enjoy watching porn. Romance novels are their "porn", and most women I've known love reading them.

Drooler (Disabled) Probably for the same reason that most men aren't interested in romantic movies or novels, to expand a bit on luv lickn clit's comment. Each gender has its own preferred genre of fiction.

Wittyguy (0) I said "other" because it's probably all of the above. I've seen examples of all of the above in the forum in the past. My guess is that for a woman to openly be a woman here (I suspect some join under a male or gender neutral name) requires more effort and bother than what it's worth.

lk2fireone (0) My guess is that most women haven't heard of the sexual revolution, where men and women are supposed to be equal. Or maybe it's because men are still stuck in the cave-man era, where only men are interested in porn.

I would think, though, that glamcore/heartcore porn would make more women interested in porn, if they come across it.

messmer (Disabled) I go along with Luv lickn clit and Drooler. Women love steamy sex but mostly in the context of romance, something not found too often here.

Thanks for the support, JB ......as well as an excellent response.

Geez!... you'd think this simple poll question was akin to my pissing on this guy's leg .....judging from his reaction.

Apart from that, given the assumed awkward nature of this poll, I think all the answers are posed in the usual superlative manner we can expect from our regulars.

graymane (Suspended) Steamy romance novels .... of course. Why didn't I think of that?
I'd venture we all agree that a measure of participation from the softer gender would be enthusiastically welcomed.... esp. in our forum.
You'd think the overwhelming curiosity inbred in the minds of the opposite sex would draw them like moths to a flame.
But then, Hell! (expanding on JB's proclamation) what do I know about what makes them tick?
Ron Jeremy? where are you when we need you?

I think G. M. is on the spot with a question like this, I have been on here long awhile and other then webmasters for the most part there are seldom if any female regulars and those that do arrive do not stay long. I put Hit ON, not that my fellow PU have been nothing but gentlemen. I think as we all know anti-porn people in society as a group fear and loath porn watchers. And a stigmatizem that we are all sitting here typing with one hand and J.O with the other. I think allot of women's perspective are catching a spouse, BF etc watching it and that tends to stay with them. Most women are not open to fantasy and porn, not to say there are not allot out there. But the majority probably view us sitting in a dark room in the basement with cases of Kleenex and Hand lotion stacked up. And any visiting female would be bombarded with men hitting on them Drooling on our selves ( no offense Drooler hehe) while watching naked bodies. I think to a point women are intimidated by mens fantasies and may even see porn as competition .

gaypornolover (0) I think it's mainly that less women are into porn, so I picked Other.

For the ones that are, any of the other reasons might apply really.

NOBODY picks on you Graymane without some retort, rest assured. I thought he was a little over sensitive with all the "prove it" language - maybe his GF is beating him up. Hell, maybe she even wrote it.

Just to be fair all-around.
Looks like the female member with the most posts in the forum and reviews is Heather Mckxxx, kittygirl is second. Heather has 10 reviews and 69 forum posts. Kittygirl has 6 reviews and 0 forum posts. There are 120 male members ahead of Heather in reviews. There are 200 ahead of kittygirl. Heather is in the top 100 in forum posts.

Just based on this, this would put female participation at less than 1%. So I don't think Graymane is assuming. On the other hand...

While it's true that one can't tell by name, the member's gender does show in their profile. If someone chooses to lie about their gender it makes Graymane's question even more relevant since it would show there is a reason for the female members to claim "male" as their gender. No reason to question him for "assuming" since all he can do is go by the information the member provides in their profile.

exotics4me (0) In reply to the poll, I picked other because I think one option is missing in the answers.

A few of you know that my life situation has been changing over the last few years, went from the married ranks to divorced and now engaged.

I know this may sound crazy, but I wanted my future wife or girlfriend to be open to porn and sexual discussions. The girl I'm now engaged to was, then she wasn't, then she was, then she wasn't. I guess we sometimes forget it was men who often repressed women of their sexual feelings. My fiance for example, nearly all of her old pictures are with no make-up, very conservative clothes, now that she's also divorced, she has made a complete 180 degree turn.

So I think that's the other option. All of the options would be related to it, but just the overwhelming feeling of being judged. I think a lot of us these days think the judging days are over, but they still exist, especially in a woman's mind. My fiance seemed to need me to push her ahead a little, show her it was okay to talk about whatever, do whatever, before she would do it. I do see intimidation in the answers and that would be close, but maybe an option of "all the above" lol?

I do have an alternative plan to attract women members. Offer a few mixed drink vouchers. Seems once the drink is in them they'll talk about any and everything.

slutty (0) Most women I know aren't interested in porn, or at least not in the same way that most of my male friends are, so I'd guess they don't participate for the same reason I don't participate in any forums on tuning cars...

otoh (0) This certainly isn't meant to be a generalisation; but like some others, I suspect that statistically, women are less interested in porn than men. And those that are, prefer different genres; eg written rather than visual.

Having said that, I'm always enthused to see female members here, and very much value their opinion - chatting with girls about porn is both fun and enlightening, so although it is rare, it is definitely appreciated.

Wow...this is an old poll but I just logged on and was quite sorry to see that my innocent question was somehow seen as a personal attack on Graymane--when it was certainly not intended as such.

For one thing, the main page--where one first sees these polls--doesn't, so far as I can see, list the person who originated the poll. So my initial reaction to and opinion of a poll is formed before I find out who originated the poll--and therefore shouldn't be seen as a personal attack on the pollster.

Yes, of course the stereotype is that most users of porn are male. But I never like to work from stereotypes--they are often, but not always, correct. I'm actually a very, very regular lurker on here--although I usually come here as a guest and don't feel the need to log on. Most discussions, it seems to me, discuss porn in an objective, general, sense--but without information that would really reveal the gender of the poster. And--again--that is an opinion that I've formed on here as a very regular reader of these forums. So I wanted to understand why someone was assuming that most posters were male--when I really didn't see any solid evidence of it.

I hadn't know that people's gender was listed in their profiles.

Hey David - From me personally there is no attack on Graymane - he's a good PU friend who I like a lot. He also might be our only Octogenarian. Usually if the poll is suggested by someone they will be kudos by having their name mentioned unless the poll was generated by PU.

With regard to me and my responses on PU here is how I try to gauge my responses:

I am sarcastic - just my avenue of humor - but humor is key. I may take issues with the way a poll question is asked but only to point out certain ambiguities in the way or answers that might be offered. But there is no offense trying to made. My motto - "don't feed the trolls" so I try to make sure I'm not one.

I do certainly like PU - and it's members - and most of my time is spent in the forum and answering new poll questions so I do not try and alienate or insult fellow members since I have not found another collegial forum anywhere - not that I go looking for one.

Finally, if my response offense you, please accept my apology. I suppose that since this poll was the first time I had seen your name I might have thought you did not regularly attend this gathering and I'm sorry if I left a bad taste. Thanks for reaching out about your concerns.

Regards,
jb
