Windows 10 Privacy For the Windows users out there, are you planning on upgrading to Windows 10? Do you have privacy concerns? If you are not planning on using Windows 10, what alternative will you be using? It seems to me that the other versions of Windows won't be good options for long since Microsoft plans to discontinue support and security updates for all versions prior to 10 in one year's time. Does the baseline level of data sharing with Microsoft bother you? For example, Windows 10 sends a memory snapshot - a crash dump of your RAM contents - to Microsoft with every crash, and that option cannot be disabled outside of the Windows 10 Enterprise version. So if you happen to be viewing you favorite porn pic, or I happen to be viewing a pic of a cute girl peeing, that file will go to Microsoft in entirety, for their developers to discover in your memory snapshot, and it will be tied to your identifying info in Microsoft's database. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off.

If what you say is true, that Microsoft will keep a memory snapshot of files on your computer, then it would be dangerous to keep porn on a Windows 10 computer. Law enforcement wants access to all computers/devices/etc., to fight terrorism. So if you have porn on your Windows 10 computer, you could be flagged for whatever crimes law enforcement could decide to prosecute you for. That would be true, even if you were not aware that you had done anything illegal. Ignorance of the law is no defense if you have committed a crime. The national Government uses legal and illegal means to capture data. How long (and how effectively) will Microsoft/Apple/whoever fight the national Government to protect our privacy?

Windows life cycle I would not get too worried yet. Windows 7 will be supported for another 4 years yet. I suspect that it will continue after that. Many companies jumped onto windows 7 after XP was retired and considered insecure, which it absolutely is. Feedback from these companies might prompt them to continue support a while longer. They even extended the support for XP for a bit. As for porn worries, you can always download on one system and view at you leisure on another. Although I imagine a bit cumbersome at times. Perhaps it is about time to learn linx. As for ram and other things, encryption might be the key. No clue if ram encryption is possibility though. If you will view my signature below you may see it in a different light after considering the rest of this thread. A world record is not the reason I hoard. I think I get what you're saying there. I am not going for any records either. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off.

I'd still argue that it is yours for the taking were you to wish it. I stand by that quote. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!" Second Grand Order Poobah in the Loyal Order of the Water Buffalo

I have heard that it crosses all kinds of boundaries when it comes to privacy... But IMHO, privacy in this day and age is a myth. Online security is a fairytale told to us by big government and multinational corporations so we as citizens and consumers don't shy away from using smartphones, laptops, tablets and home computers for filling out government forms, submitting taxes, banking, shopping, etc. Going digital has saved the powers that be an enormous amount of money so it is worth the risk for the big players. And realistically when something does go wrong that doesn't seem to slow the process down at all. Data breeches scare folks briefly, but it's hard to function completely offline in our society. I suppose if you only use your device inside of a lead-lined room, never use the Internet, disable Bluetooth at the hardware level and disconnect your webcam then you might manage to protect your privacy. You won't have much fun though. Anyway, all that to say that I am more than willing to throw caution to the wind on this one. Windows 10 is far superior to previous versions even if it shares a great many similarities with them. To me, it is the first time in ages that Microsoft has released a product that truly lives up to a good portion of the hype. That's my two cents worth or my 0.0000461578 Bitcoins worth!
