Why isn't POV more popular? I got to thinking about this after reading the "I'm Ready For My Closeup Mr. DeMille" thread. Most of you know what POV is and stands for (point of view). I just wonder why it isn't more popular? Considering the extent to which many guys obsess over their favorite stars, POV gives you the chance to visualize how it would be if YOU were actually the one banging them. It seems as though the concept sort of took off for a while; particularly in the DVD market and eventually making it's way to a number of network sites, but it's popularity seems to have faded quite a bit. (at least imo) Out of what I would call the "super networks" (Brazzers, Bang Bros, Reality Kings, Naughty America) only NA has what I would consider a site devoted entirely to POV. (House Wife 1 on 1, although Bang Bros also utilizes this angle from time to time) I guess I am just throwing it out there for discussion, as I have never been a die hard fan of the genre myself. I guess most of the guys just prefer the more (traditional) voyeuristic perspective. *Also for you trivia heads out there; obviously the POV concept had been around for quite a while without actually being considered a category or genre, but what year would you consider that the concept really took off and was considered an official porn genre? | |

If you do a keyword search at TBP for "POV," you'll get 32 sites. Looking at the listing dates, it would seem that it started in late 2005 but then picked up a bit in 2006. This could be way off from the date you have, though. Just the same, TBP doesn't have a "POV" niche. I don't know if other review sites do. Could be. I got some thrills from DreamStash, which isn't in the POV list even though POV is mainly what it is with the hardcore. I got tired of the erratic updates and some of the photo quality. Copped a fair amount of vids from it, though. Haven't been since June 2006, and at that time it was bundled with Dr. Harcore, Exploited Cunts, and a very weird site called Boner Bunny, which had the girls being fucked by a guy wearing this big ass rabbit suit. I'd say that try as it might to be different and be more of a visceral sex experience for the viewer, POV doesn't work. You know the girl is fucking someone else. You can see the penetration -- but it would be worse if you never could. About the only good thing about POV is that it makes it a point to push the male out of view as much as it can. But it's just a step further from regular porn, which also avoids focus on the male most of the time. Boner Bunny took care of it by stuffing the dude in that big suit. There weren't many vids or pic sets on it. Can you imagine how overheated you'd get boning down on Veronica Vanosa while wearing this big furry bunny getup? I think the problem is that it is never properly presented. The only place I see it properly presented is on Japanese sites. You'll see western POV video, and the camera will be on the side. Or the male will be talking. Or the girl will be talking to the actor, and not the viewer. I've looked through the POV sites listed here, and I can not find an authentic one. | |

Nowadays, only dinosaur companies like Vivid and Wicked show endless closeups of males faces. Most modern companies never do. | |

I've have some POVs which maintain a place in my top favorites... for me it's typically the Pornstar's interaction that makes it work as well as good camera action...I agree that the Japs do this better... my fav's for doing this are Jenna Haze...the POV queen Delta White is a natural POV, probably because she knows she just looks so bloody cute in that position and is thus very confident and comfortable with it... Gauge...for me the pioneer of POV Monica Sweetheart...although I only have 1 scene it was the business Dora Venter...who I believe is a very dirty girl I guess there are loads but to illustrate my point, I'll nominate Tera Patrick as one Pornstar who does not do a good POV... I'm not too bothered if it's not authentic, but I think it only works if the girl at the other end of the camera is empowered by the act of POV. I agree. Another thing that comes to mind for me though is that with the popularity of first person shooter games, (Halo, Call of Duty, Half life) you kind of wonder why that hasn't crossed over to making POV as wildly popular. I don't really care for FPS games either, and obviously it's kind of a stretch to compare the two, but you have to believe that they at least appeal to the same demographic. | |

For some reason, I never liked POV. A few reasons: - Most of the time, you only see part of the woman like her back. I'd like to see her complete. - It's too unreal; I just can't imagine myself that it is ME in the movie. I see it as a guy holding a camera. - I like certain positions of the performers (like reverse cowgirl) which doesn't look very good in POV mode. | |

In the "old days" this kind of fine porn was mentioned as "virtual" (I think) You can still find some virtual stuff - and some of it is just great. POV - point of view if we are looking at the traditional meaning from filming, master shot etc, POV would have been audience assumes the same position and view of the identified character... Went through some newer POV-material - and what hits me is the the down right dollness and lack af imagination from the "interviewer" - with some KIND of dialog that has to turn you off: What's your name? How old are you? Do you like to suck cock? When did you first have sex? Would you like to suck cock now? Agreed. POV is something I can do without. A little is okay, but it is being used too much. It can be nice if done properly, but too many people are using it is an excuse to make porn with themselves and a girl, that is it. Like someone said in another thread, it is basically prostitution on tape in many of these low rate scenes. I like my porn to be filmed from different angles, so that I get the entire scene and not just from one perspective. If you film a scene and you have a couple of takes in POV than great, but if it's all POV than it's going to get annoying real fast. A handjob/tugjob scene exotics4me mentions can be interesting in POV, but that's because the only motion is of the giel. POV can be good. Jules Jordan has certainly done some tremendous POV stuff. Other times it's crap. Raven Riley did a bunch of POV stuff that frustrated the hell out of me because I would have so much more enjoyed a camera that had the freedom to roam around and explore her gorgeous body from all angles. In general, I prefer that roaming camera idea to the POV stuff. The worst is the stationery camera where nobody is taking advantage of the opportunity to get the good stuff. I saw a documentary series about Vivid's attempts to get the right to do a new version of "Deep Throat" and they had numerous scenes of Vivid's shoots. In all those scenes, the director was about 30 feet away during the sex scenes, yakking with someone else about a completely different subject or stuffing food in their mouth. It made it perfectly clear why Vivid's sex scenes are such crap. | |

I quite like POV, even when it's just gonzo, which I otherwise tend to avoid (unless it's with one of my favourite models), scenes does just not work for me if there isn't a proper set-up (no matter how clich�d it might be). Mind you, I never actually join a site just to get POV, it's not that important to me, it's just a nice second prize if an otherwise interesting site happens to have it. Naughty America's "Housewife 1-on-1" is my preferred source for it (because it has aforementioned set-ups), but Videobox also has a handful of good POV-DVDs. Particularly the first three scenes on the "3 on me POV"-DVD and Jenna Haze's scene in "Nasty Talk" are some of the hottest scenes I've ever seen, the girls are worked well into the scenes' "stories", show a lot of enthusiasm and give some good dirty talk. | |
