Giving up internet porn? I really don't want to, but I'm not sure y'all will be seeing any more reviews from me. Simple reason? I had debit card fraud on my bank account for the second time in two years. I have anti-virus software which I am obsessive about keeping up to date, and it's never found a virus on my current machine which I only bought a few months ago. I had no evidence that it was a porn site that stole my card details. However, whenever I talk to friends about it who know I use porn they all say the same thing - if I keep using porn sites, this is going to keep happening and they all think porn sites are the most likely way this is happening. It may not be - it may be nothing to do with my computer at all - this may have happened in a store or something. However I'm so freaked out by all this that I feel pressured to stop using internet porn. I've cancelled all of my subscriptions and I just don't know what to do now. I'll really miss internet porn, but I can't face going through the stress and hassle of fraud on my bank account again. I got the money back but if this keeps happening maybe my bank won't believe me anymore, or they'll say it's my fault, and I won't get refunds from them in the future. Any thoughts anyway? I use a good paid-for internet security suite including firewall. I've never found a virus on my PC, it passed the test at ShieldsUp! and I update my anti-virus daily and do a full system scan most days. I'm careful in stores and at ATMs - I don't know what else to do!!

Hey dude, that sucks. I had a friend have that happen. In a word a solution to avoid this in the future is prepaid credit cards. I asked the forum a few weeks ago here about people that use them but received no response. I have used them on porn sites. And I think more and more are accepting it. If you get a re-loadable one there is a fee each time you load, but it is never connected to your bank as you can buy them at most places. Walmart seems the cheapest and has the most. If you are unsure try writing some of the webmasters at sites you like and see if they take them, I know a few I used had no problems. Hope this helps. Since 2007

I sympathize with you. It will freak you out if someone does that to you. It happened to me with my pre-paid credit card only a couple of months ago and I had to cancel it and order a new one because some outfit called JacsHelp started deducting $ 39.95 a month from it, and no, it wasn't a porn site I had forgotten about. I won't come out and blame a specific porn site for fraud but strangely enough this happened shortly after I subscribed to one that used an in-house biller rather than CCBill and Epoch. I have been subscribing via pre-paid credit card for over four years and never had a false charge against my account until the incident mentioned above. Just like you I was tempted to turn my back on pay sites completely but then decided to continue, but to do business through CCBill. Epoch and SegPay only. They are secure and can be trusted.

Wittyguy's advice is almost as good as his yearly PU awards. And if you're fortunate enough, you might also get with a card company that is vigilant about security. Seems that anything that smacks of irregular activity on the card I use gets flagged right away and the charge is denied, which usually isn't a problem as I rarely stray from my well-established habits. Of course, it's not a 100% solution. I've had flaky card companies before, but they're long gone now. Bummer that it's a debit card, 'cause that could really clean you out. And BTW, anyone who thinks it's porn sites that lead to fraudulent charges has never taken a car in for annual state inspection. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Debit cards are awfully convenient, but I only use my at places I trust. Even local merchants are not safe. Seems some lease company locally here was getting CC info from the machines they leased. It scanned your credit cards all right and once a day sent they information to the lease company. That information being your numbers and secure number, name and anything else. Was a big story around here, was glad me or the wife had no issues. I do worry about it though, and try and be careful. Since 2007

first up i wouldn't worry to much about it, card fraud is going to happen pretty much regardless of whether you use porn sites or not, so don't panic. as you say, it's hard to know how your card details acquired, it could very well be an ATM, a shop you went into, a web site, a key logger etc etc. it most likely *isn't* anything to do with your computer itself since it sounds like you have all the required tools to keep it safe. all you need to do is make sure your card has been cancelled and cancel your subs to the sites, which you have done. when you get your new card just sign up to sites with well known payment handlers as other people have already said and keep an eye on the next few bank statements.

Hey guys just realised I never came and thanked you all for the advice on this forum! Apologies, I kept meaning to and then forgot. I haven't joined any more porno sites since this incident and I'm extra-careful about how I use my card now. I do keep my internet security up to date and I've still never found a virus on this machine, so I think it was probably someone at a store or website who stole my details rather than a virus. I am looking into pre-paid debit cards now - they don't seem to be quite as common here in the UK as in the USA but they certainly exist - just trying to figure out which one is the best value and which one I trust the most right now. This is why I haven't done any new reviews lately, but I hope to have a prepaid card soon and hopefully it'll let me join up to sites smoothly. At least it's then not linked to my bank account which is my main concern - with a prepaid card all I can lose is the money loaded on the card and I'll never keep much on it. I did wonder if some sites wouldn't like them as they may not be as good for them auto-renewing, but if a site won't take it then they just won't get my business, because it's just not worth the hassle I went through. Gladly I got the fraudulent charges refunded and all seems back to normal. Thanks again for all the advice.

IMO, this is something that the industry needs to pay more attention to. A lot of people are afraid to sign up for subscriptions, out of fear of such things or the privacy concerns. My last post about the call from the bank goes to privacy concerns. I am not married. But if I was, that call could have caused serious repurcussions. Whether adult online busineses really have a higher incidence of fraud compared to other online vendors, as seems to be a common sentiment on the net, it doesn't matter. Perception matters. This is a touchy subject, but it is something that has some truth to it, IMO. But it just doesn't apply to adult business. I don't blame it on the legit vendors. But they can't control everything and might not do all due diligence in checking backgrounds of employees who might have access to info. My opinion is that fraud--whether in adult or other business--doesnt come from hacking, but rather they are inside jobs where someone rips account info. Do online vendors hire more shady characters without checking backgrounds to manage accounts comapred to other online business? I don't know. I suspect the answer is probably yes, in this industry, for some players. I know that might rub some folks the wrong way but thats just my two cents. I have to admit that the only time I ever had credit card fraud took place immediately following a transaction with an with an adult business. This wasn't online, however. Back in 2005, I went into a local adult bookstore to get a copy of a couple magazines I usually picked up every month or so--Voluptuous and Score. I forgot I did not have cash and have never used my card in this store. I paid for it anyways with my debit card. The next day, when I went to fill up on gas on my way to work, my debit card was declined. Made it to work on fumes, thinking I would get some cash from the ATM after I figured out what happened. Lo and behold, when I called the bank, there was a freeze on my account. Someone tried to go online at TJ Max, Puma, and a host of other reatilers. They froze the transactions. Since I had not used the card in five days and this happened within 12 hours of my transaction at the bookstore, I can only conclude that it is highly probable that either the cashier or someone else in the store ripped my account info. They even had my 3 digit code on the back so I suspect it was the clerk who wrote the numebr down after taking a quick glance at the sig on the back of the card. I was pissed and went back into the store the next day. I told the manager, who I asked to see, what happened and since I had not used the card in days and this happened immedaitely after, I smelled something funny. I wasnt in their face about it and I cannot technically prove it, of course. But any rational thinking person would arrive at this probable conclusion. Not much she could do. She promised to 'look into it.' I never went back into the store again and did inform the bank of this and they said they would investigate. Had to get a new card and it took a few days. I was not charged and the bank ate the fraud transactions. I just think this happens when business hires shady employees. If you have seen some of the counter help in adult booksores, you might understand what I mean by this. And thats all I will say about that. Edited on Feb 04, 2012, 05:11pm

Hey GPL, FWIW, I've used Entropay before and it seems to work well. It's basically a virtual debit card that you load from your own debit or credit card - you can get a physical card if you need but it's not required, it can be all online. Of course you pay charges but it's not unreasonable - IIRC 5% on loads? I think there are also inactive account fee, so be sure to check that out before signing up/loading funds. You can also choose the currency of the card, which is why I got it - I wanted to join a French site that would only accept cards that natively billed in Euros.

I have had issues in the past myself with false charges, and very recently had my bank account blocked from any online activity by the bank. I don't think was from a porn site, but rather somewhere else. But someone tried to access my account from out of the country, and the bank shut it down. I have always used a different bank card myself for internet purchases. My personal bank offers a separate account, just for online purchases, that you can transfer money into just as you need to use it. This has been very useful for me in doing most anything around the 'net. I hope you are able to come up with either a pre-paid card or other means. It seems from reading your original post that you will miss online porn a great deal. Good luck Webmaster/Owner www.SeeMeTease.com amateur modeling site

Don't give up a great hobby! At least not for these reasons. Do something big like find Jesus and then quit, telling us that we're all going to hell as you leave. I've been buying online porn and porn memberships for over 10 years now and I have been very lucky to have never been defrauded. Before finding this site and TBP I guess I was just lucky because I still managed to avoid the sites that looked a little suspicious. The biggest thing you can do is deal exclusively with reputable and known billing providers. That means showing some restraint when you find a site that you really want to see but you'd have to give your card number directly to the site or to an unknown biller. I'd like to claim that I've never done that, but I have... As for your friends immediately jumping to the conclusion that this issue has to be porn related, while it may well be, I suspect they may be showing some anti-porn biases. I really doubt that all other kinds of online purchases are immune from fraud.

First thing is, I would never use a debit card online. You have virtually zero chance to dispute false charges. Credit card is the only way to go. Get set up with a bank that offers you virtual numbers. Some banks go even so far to allow you to specify spending limits on virtual numbers, perfect for internet purchases. A site is $29.99, set up a virtual number with a $29.99 spending limit, after the first transaction, every future transaction on that cc number fails.

And more likely now that Rick Santorum won three Republican primaries. I'll never understand the concept of smaller government that is still happy to impose narrow morality on others.

Hey Otoh I am looking at Entropay at the moment - it seems like a decent deal - have you found it's accepted at most sites? Will it allow me to pay in euros and dollars OK? Thanks in advance...

Card fraud, identity fraud, is becoming more common as time goes on. And it's not necessarily always related to porn. If you watch TV or read about credit fraud, you will know that computer criminals have gained access in the past to the credit card transactions of major chains like Best Buy. And credit card processing companies have been hacked. The lastest scam I heard about was criminals geting IRS refund checks instead of the people the refunds were supposed to go to. Welcome to the real world. But I think that most banks and credit card companies will believe you when you say that a certain charge is fraudulent. Because this is happening to a lot of people, a lot of accounts.

I've had some issues with my credit card too (some online casino shit, which I haven't heard of ever before) and usually it boils down to call your bank or the credit card institute and they will make no fuss and send you a new credit card within a week or so. They don't want to know any details too. To be honest since it is that simple I never cared about prepaid cards. I also don't believe the trouble comes solely from my porn transactions, that would be a coincidence. Quitting porn would be a topic for me only if I established a totally fulfilling fetish lifestyle with as much and as decadent and kinky sex as I can get . All hail to the hypnotoad!
