What to do, what to do? :-)

First most picture sets got too boring because of their sameness so I switched to Video. After I re-subscribed to Videobox (after my insincere protestations that I never would again) their videos are mainly of a cookie cutter quality with the same scenes repeated endlessly, so where does that leave me?

TBP needs to add a new category: Weird, bizarre, unusual and outrageous stuff for those who are bored with the rest! :-)

Aside from the world-wide economic problems, I think that's a part of why porn is going through it's own recession. Just about everywhere you look, it's all cookie-cutter. I think people are just getting bored with it all and not paying for the same crap over and over again. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I suspect you are right, rb. It's taking me longer and longer to find a good (to my taste) site because no matter how many tours I take it all looks the same, only the technical quality changes from one site to the other.

Don't you have any sites that you've looked at many times but never joined? I joined 2 in the last 6 weeks and was extremely pleased with the content in both. Even better, they were both 20$.

It's true that the recession and economic woes accross the Globe was bound to have repercussions on every business, including porn. I still think that porn was heading toward a crash long before the Recession. Paying customers have been complaining about the lack of imagination in porn. The mysoginist attitude of male performers and directors toward female performers? The large amount of female performers getting implants, plastic surgery, large tattoos and body piercings. The general disapearance of actual talent in making porn. Is it any wonder that porn is going down thew chute? Long live the Brown Coats.

Messmer, I think it is time for you to join some really messed up site. Something really dirty that that you have to hide separate from them rest of your porn stash as to not accidental show it to someone. "For example, badandy400 has taken it upon himself to become the one man Library of Congress for porn with a collection that surely will be in Guinness Book of World Records some day." ~Toadsith~

Two separate issues being discussed here.
1. Personal dissatisfaction with the porn being offered.
2. The global recession, which includes the world of porn.

People go thru phases. It's perfectly normal to vary in your appreciation/satisfaction in porn, the entertainment industry (regular movies, whatever). Finding new sites that have the same impact as sites or material did 10 or 20 years earlier is not easy. That's part of why people are always talking about the "good old days".

Porn is a business just like any other. The entertainment industry is really going thru a downturn, not just the adult industry, but the mainstream industry as well. Disney, the billion dollar entertainment conglomerate, actually reported a loss in the DVD segment of their business this last quarter, with dropping sales.

So you can blame the lack of quality product in porn for the porn recesssion, but that's really a simplistic answer.

Nothing wrong with simplistic answers, but the real world is complicated. Sure, if the producers started offering great quality porn that was fresh and exciting, sales would improve, but we are in a recession (or coming out of one), and people have less money to spend, which is one of the effects of a recession.

There are good sites out there that are worth the money. But what strikes your fancy is personal taste. If you go looking for something fresh and different, and you look in many different sites that are less well-viewed, you are going to come across a lot of crap. I spend most of my money on sites that are popular (in PU terms), because I like to play it safe, and hope I will get some satisfaction from the sites I join.

What to do?

Take a break, don't watch porn for a week or two. The photos you thought had become boring, will have all returned to their former glory!

That's an important point. Anything indulged in too much will "get dull." I see things in my stash I haven't viewed in months and go, "WOW! Damn, I already have that?!" I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

LOL. Do they have a "real dirty and messed up" category I could search under at TBP?

Thanks, guys, for the input. Both arguments hit the nail on the head, the recession has caused the production of cookie cutter porn and I have definitely spent too much time around Porn which can and does cause a "ho-hum" effect after a while.

I have long since come to the conclusion that most people who buy porn really are just looking for mass quantity, not quality.

You can see it here on pornusers all to often in the reviews and the comments, the subject website is far too often rated primarily on the price per set. If the site does not offer an archive of 5,000 random videos it gets a mark against it. If the site does not offer 40 non-updating bonus sites, it gets a mark against it.

A brand new site doing something truly unique and exciting, will of course begin its life slowly, then usually get slammed in a review because the person was able to do a site-rip within 3 days, thus the remaining subscription is a total waste.

Even established sites can't avoid this type of negativity, saw a comment the other day that he was able to do a site-rip with two weeks yet to go on the subscription, so was complaining up a storm. I just sit here thinking, you just downloaded 400 scenes for $20 and you're pissed off?

Most porn is "cookie cutter" porn because that is often the only thing people are willing to spend money on. Edited on Nov 01, 2009, 12:12pm

I don't agree with that at all! Or maybe I just don't understand what "cookie cutter" means to you. I don't think it has anything to do with the amount of content a site has. To me, it's more about the many sites that seem to have a formula. I'll concede that there are just so many ways people can fuck, but when they change the girl, change the stunt cock and it looks like the same scene over and over again, it gets old very quickly. I can't speak for anyone else, of course, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who'd say that that's not what I'm looking for when I'm paying to join a site. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I think you make some very good points, except that I very seldom see anyone slam a new site for having little material. We all (most) understand that it takes some time to increase the offerings. I usually make a remark to the effect that I'll wait a while until it builds up enough material.

Another thing I haven't mentioned, I have run across sites that do look quite interesting but the subscription price leaves me gasping. Who can afford $ 60 or so a month for a site, no matter how appealing, so regretfully I usually settle for second best (for me) and then find that most of the material doesn't appeal to me. Stupid, I know. Why bother at all if only every tenth update is of interest.

When I complain about expensive sites I am thinking mostly of European ones. Too bad because they are the ones that break the mold most often. :-(

I buy a large amount of porn DVD's but I pick which movie I want. I mostly stay away from compilations because they often dissapoint.

Any site that is just beginning and has a small library is bound to get criticism if their mebership price is very high. It's pure economics. You can't sell 6 eggs and charge the price of a dozen simply because yours are bound to taste better. You might be right but that requires time and a customer base to say it is.

Established sites are always going to be pointed with a finger because they have a formula that works. That's why they are still in business after many years while some of the sites that started at the same time as them aren't. Long live the Brown Coats.
