Are you ever overlooking what great porn you already have?

I decided today as a change to go through some of my fav girls and pick the best movie I think they have done. I would then make a shortcut of that movie and put it into a best of directory.

Ow wow you really do forget sometimes what unbelievably hot movies you own, its easy to forget certain movie when you start collecting a girl and they all get bunched in together and often absolute gems are being overlooked, that and the constant search for the new porn fever that I suffer from thinking I should always be adding to the collection and getting more and more, even though most of it isn't anywhere near as hot as some stuff you might already have.

Anyway I've really enjoyed discovering some old gems and am no where near complete as I have 116 fav girls. I know it a personal thing what is good and average and stuff but some of the stuff I re-discovered is a joy and its nice to have a best of folder to come to where you know its first class and you won't be disappointed. when you have so many vids it is often a bit of a struggle sometimes to find that great movie to watch at that time.

Anyways I thought I'd share for anyone interested in doing this, highly recommend it. "Women are like tricks by sleight of hand, Which, to admire, we should not understand." WILLIAM CONGREVE

Funny the reason I have not done a review in awhile is all the time been organizing last few months. Problem with old gems is ummmm. It can be distracting to put it mildly.
So lol taken awhile to organize. Since 2007

True that!

My MO, I pay my 20 or 30 bucks and ravage the website's server and don't spend a lot of time viewing during that process.

Over a year ago I bought a 2T external HD to consolodate 6 or 8 HDs
(80 to 750 gigs each ) and organize them. What I found was an absolutely amazing collection of vids and images that I had never viewed. Most of my best stuff was stored and not reviewed. Many of the images were still zipped. I resolved to not do that again, but alas I've ravaged another 3 or 4 sites since then, but I'm a little better at viewing and unzipping than I once was. When the famblyvalue folks finally prevail and outlaw naked girls, I'll be set for life. unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is gonna suck.

I guess I've unconsciously doing the same, elephant. Add to it that my drive space is becoming very scarce, my drive bay is maxed out and 2Tb drives are too expensive these days.

If a day's fishing doesn't deliver the goods, there's always the favs that never fail!

I like the idea of creating shortcuts...it would save me a lot of time.

I have been tagging my fav clips lately and that helps jog the memory too.

It's rare for me to overlook porn that I have downloaded because I'm very selective oi what I download. The first thing I do when I join a site is look for the scenes that I know I will like and that means that I only download a small percentage of the sites total library. of course I will sometime find something that I had forgotten about in my dwonloaded content. That's always fun. Long live the Brown Coats.

2TB drives only seem to be about £10 more now than when I bought my last one 14 months ago (That's for the exact same Seagate model now as I bought then). SSD's are a lot cheaper than they were back then - seems lots of them have dropped to under the £/GB level now (for bigger drives). Hopefully they will become viable in the next couple of years. ^It makes sense for the price to be lower since the demand for larger drives is huge and more players are getting into the market that usually means more competition and competiton equals lower price. Long live the Brown Coats.

Since there aren't too many current sites that appeal to me, I'm more or less relegated to going through my collection quite often. So, no, I really don't overlook much.

And I think I've taken that shortcut idea to a new limit. I've created a few spreadsheets with the links to different categories - favorite models, favorite niches, different body types, etc. For those who might like the idea but don't relish the thought of shelling out a lot of cash for a Micro$haft's Excel, OpenOffice.org will get you there for free!

Raging Buddist... so I'm clear ....... the links are in the spreadsheets? Just copied and pasted in the rows and columns? Perhaps you could elaborate on your filing methods.
Whichever bad ideas you've had that you have resolved, would assist others of us who find the idea compelling. Excel (XL?) is on my desktop so I'm ready.

I discovered years ago how great Excel it is for lists. It's a lot simpler to make entries and to navigate than MSWord (which was best in the mid nineties and is now so heavy with all the “helpful” twists and turns and automatic bullshit that can make you crazy)

Gotta go make some links unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is gonna suck.

I've never really used the actual Excel, just the OpenOffice version that's called Calc. But I think it's safe to assume that Excel has the same ability to create links in each cell.

With a cell highlighted, I go to the top of the window and click 'Insert', then 'Hyperlink' from the dropdown menu. It opens a box where I enter the path to the file or folder I want to link to and the title I want to display. Click 'OK' and that cell will now open whatever file for folder I've specified.

For a more detailed example, I'll go to the mainstream side of things. I have spreadsheets for movies by year and movies by actor. For the years, I have the column headers listing the years. <1940, 1940, 1941... up to the present. For the actors, the headers list the actors' names alphabetically. On both, each cell links to the actual file on one of my drives. I also put notes on some cells with comments like Director's Cut, With Alternate Ending, Quality = X, etc.

The only drawback I've run into in doing things this way is the same problem I'd get with any shortcut. If the drive letters, folders or file names are changed in any way, the shortcuts to those files are then dead. When I built a new computer last year, I had to change some of the drive letters on the new system to match the configuration of my old computer. But, even that presented a problem. The new PC has fewer but larger drives. I had to move files to a different lettered drive. That forced me to fix a lot of links!

Sounds like a good idea but a ton of work, I have and older system I use and about 23,000 videos and hmmm 200,000 pictures . To link even to model etc would take me years lol.

I love your idea but time copy/paste would be too long for me.

There is a small database program called MyFiles from Argentum that does an excellent job of scanning drives & folders, and allows you to build a database of specific info on the scene or clip. This works well for a video collection.

You can launch videos or pix (or any file) from it's browser and can also create html or spreadsheet reports. Creating the db is pretty easy, but you do have to understand it's structure pretty well.

I've been working with databases since the 80's dBase days, so I found it not too difficult to grasp; easier than MySQL or Access. MyFiles took me a few weeks of study, trial & error before I was comfortable with creating a good file info db.

It's main failing is the same as all e-catalogs...once you change the drive letter the file is on, you have to rescan it and re-enter all your info. It does indicate the drive ID number (not the assigned letter) for each file and I suppose you could figure out a way to change it to the new drive ID.

I have thought of this as well, but it is difficult when files are moved around a lot and are spanned across many drives that are not always active.

Linking in excel would take a long time, as Cybertoad has mentioned, and that is even considering a small collection. The program you mentioned was call Porn Commander I believe, or something very similar.

Hard drives are still much more practical than SSD because of the $/GB figures. It is easy to find HDD for $0.06/GB and hard to find SSD for $0.80/GB. So while HDDs have doubled in price due to the flooding they are still the better bet. But I must agree, I can not wait for them to be equal.

Hello to all the new members here since I have last visited. It certainly has been a while.

Good to see Badandy back. He and Khan were the two who got me into external drives - for which I will be forever grateful. No more worries about viruses wiping out my collection. The one small drawback is the hoarding. That is why I continually look at all the stuff on my external drives. It's amazing the quality of material on there.

The answer to Elephant's original question is "yes." That's why I continue to check out those drives. The tendency is to want to take out a new membership rather than view the hours already downloaded. Most of the time, I watch quite a lot of what I download, simply because it's a waste of money if I don't. It's also the reason I only join and review three or four sites a year.

I do watch what I download. Despite that, there are still hours of material I have downloaded but not seen, and already I have the urge to join another site. For once I had an evening when I wasn't doing something, so I got the chance to view some of that material. That's what it's there for. Edited on Feb 22, 2012, 07:23pm

HDD's didn't double in price around here. The most I saw was a 50% increase and that didn't last long.

I think SSDs could get most interesting in the next couple of years. Expect to see capacities increase drastically without the physical size or the price increasing at all. As soon as the price gets close to the £/GB level of HDDs I think a big portion of customers will switch to SSDs and that will drive the price down even further - the more they make the cheaper they get. I'd be surprised if any of the veterans/the old guard her at PU - did not come across "New" material that they'd find later on in their stash.
Can't count the number of times I downloaded what I thought was new....and then found the same vid or photoset somewhere deeeeep down in all my o0lder stash at now five different external drives.....but what the heck.... and, elephant: "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

Yes, spot on Denner. Sometimes I see what I think is a great clip on some file sharing site, decide to join that site next, only to find it's a clip I already have, from a site where I was a member a short time ago.

Hard drive prices really did double for a while, and some even more. I watched a 2 TB drive go from about 80 up to over 200. No joke, I about shit a brick. This happened right as I was about to build a few new arrays.

Some of this can be locational. Really not sure how it impacted other countries. Fortunately the prices did not stay "too" high too long. There was a large number in inventories that helped smooth it over a little.

Even now the best deals I can find are 5.5 cents/gig and prior to the flooding I was paying less than 3.3 cents/gig. It is slowly returning to "normal" although that will take a good amount of time yet. Every few weeks I notice better deals coming along. I am thinking six month or so we should start seeing them down in the 4 cents/gig area, but would be thrilled if I am wrong and it is sooner.

3 TB for $130? Please send me the information on that because I want them! Newegg today has a sale for a 3 TB Seagate for $160, limit of one at that price. The cheapest deal on ebay (currently) is $150 for a 3000 rpm Seagate (slow....) unless in a large array. And even that is the absolute lowest I have seen since the floods. $240 was the lowest I could find for the 4 TB drives and even that was back ordered.

On to the topic of SSDs. I agree that the storage size will go up fast, but I do expect to see the physical size to increase as well. There is no reason at all for them to not take advantage of the 3.5" form factor. It is a standard size that would require absolutely no change in the infrastructure to support. Simply take out the HHD and screw in the SSD. A 3.5" drive has 4 times the volume of a 2.5" drive, so that could offer large capacity increases without requiring extra development. Laptops are the only things that really require the 2.5" size specifically. They were made with that in mind anyway since people wanted a lighter, non rotating drive that used a little less power.

If the price per gb and the physical size matches I will certainly jump over to them. Never forget, connecting the drives is not free.

Now for the original post. I have been frequently going back and looking at stuff I downloaded years ago. A lot of good stuff, and a good amount of amazing stuff I did not know I even had. Even finding whole websites I had forgot about, unjustly.

Micha,thank you for the emails.

It looks like that must have been a short run sale on the 3TB for $130. Currently they only have 2TB for $129. And even with that they are only allowing people to buy one and have no online sales of it. Physical store my offer different deals.

From their website's hard drive section:
"Notice to Customers: Due to the flooding in Thailand and the foreseen shortages on hard drives, Fry's Electronics is limiting hard drive sales to a quantity of one per customer at this time. Please contact a Frys.com Customer Service representative..."

Periodically we see ads for hard drive being sold at or below cost in order to gain public interest and attention to that store. When they do that they have very limited quantities, kinda like a black friday sale.

Unfortunately people like myself are feeling a heavy squeeze right now. At this point I am down to only 2 western digital 2TB green drive left empty. What is a porn hoarder to do?

Because Fry's is a few blocks from me, I don't get to their website often. If they limit purchase to one item, I take it to the car and then go back in to buy another. All of their sales are for one week, friday to thursday. Yesterday's offerings were on the slim side

external Seagate 750 G $94.99
internal Western Digital 2T $129.99
external Prestige 1T $138
solid state Patriot 120G - $119,99 60G - $69.99 after rebate

SATA HD enclosure $9.99 unless life also gives you water and sugar, your lemonade is gonna suck.

That made me suddenly realize that solid state drives now cost about the same as IDE drives cost when I first started building computers - somewhere near 2000-2001. I sure hope it doesn't take another 10+ years for SSD capacities to get to where they are now with SATA drives. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I remember those days too. Paid $160 for my 160gb drive, and that was big at the time.

It will not take anywhere near as long. Actually they are not that far behind now. I have seen 1tb solid state drives, only problem is they are in the $3000 area and up. They are also PCI interfaced, so they go faster than a $20 lap dance. Hard drives took so long because HD content was just beginning to come out. People also started switching to digital cameras and internet connections became fast more widespread. So at first there was not too much need for huge jumps in capacity. Back in the day no one ever thought they could fill up a 100 mb drive, now I have downloaded 100 mb in the time it has taken my type this far. Manufactures know that there is demand for large capacity consumer drives and they will be a race to get the largest ones out there. Will be a few more years for the price to become low enough for mass storage, but it will get there.

Wow some great replies here and really interesting to here peoples stashes and how they store their porn.

Wow RagingBuddhist, what you do is great and wished I'd started something like that with spreadsheets to see a niche and look it up and locate. But yeah the drive letter is a major pain in the ass, it is with shortcuts, annoys the hell out of me, many a time I click on a shortcut to be told cannot locate even though no change in the drive letter what so ever and when you check its the same file, I dunno its annoying anyway, the fact also is I have porn on different externals which are not always on so that can be a problem to with using shortcuts and spreadsheets.

Good to hear the prices for externals are finally coming down a bit, they said it would take a couple of years to be back to the way they were, ssd getting more capacity also would be awesome, will they ever do 2tb or 3tb though. Have to wait and see I guess

I'm gonna now look through some oldies and appreciate some quality porn from the past. Still got to compile my fav best ever clips directory.

My favourite alltime clip and think will always be to be honest is SapphicErotica's Angelique, Julie, Simone and Elaine (Ashanti) at the time Ashanti was one of my fav models but only did softcore stuff so when I clapped eyes on this I was in love, its nostalic scene to me and what defines the time I really got into lesbian porn. Like most of you, I'm definitely overlooking some decent porn that I already own. That's probably an unavoidable fact when your collection is nearing 10TB. I make it a point to regularly plug in an older drive and just watch some stuff that I haven't seen in a while. That can be a lot of fun and sometimes I discover a model that I've not really noticed before.

Also like many of you, I create shortcuts to link to favourite scenes. It's a quick and easy way to find a scene later. But I also face the problem of having the drive letter change. There's an easy fix for that. It may be different depending on your operating system but Googling it will provide a simple solution. That can't help, of course, if you've changed the path or file name.

Your short cuts method might work best if the assign different drive letters to each of them. Start with z and work up for example. That way when you plug the drive in it should always come up at Y, for example, and no other drive will do that so there is no interference. Oh ok, yes I do that
I thought perhaps the file it self was linked and was wondered how that was done .

Cyber, you can link to a file on your hd several ways.
here's the two I use most:

rt click the file and "create shortcut", then drag or move the shortcut to another folder or drive.

rt click in any folder space or even the desktop, select New Shortcut, browse for the file and name the link.

Is that what you were asking about?

You mean on web or HD ?

Thanks

Sorry for the confusion...

All I meant was that I right-click on the scene I like and create a shortcut on that drive. Then I label and store the shortcuts in a separate folder so that I can access them easily. The problem is that when you create the shortcut you computer has assigned a letter to that drive and that may not always be the same. But you can easily change the drive letter to make the shortcut valid again. This only works if you don't change the rest of the path or name of the file.

I hope this helps...

Is it possible to permanently label a drive? Mine seem to be assigned a letter each time I plug them in. To add to the problem I plug the drives into two different computers too.

Right click "My Computer"
Select "Manage"
Select "Disk Management"
Right click on the drive you want to change, select "Change drive letter and paths"
Select "Change"
Select a new letter.
Press "OK"

Be careful to not format any of the drives. This is where this can be done. "For example, badandy400 has taken it upon himself to become the one man Library of Congress for porn with a collection that surely will be in Guinness Book of World Records some day." ~Toadsith~

Does that change it permanently on that computer?

Permanently that is until you change it again.

You can also label a drive. I label mine by alphabetically, A-D, E-F, etc, for the actresses folders they contain, but you could label with anything you wish.

Hi

Does somebody know a program for organizing videos that tracks how many hours you spent watching each video?

I'm going to reorganize my collection (3500 videos). I'll probably use Itunes since in Itunes you can attach to each video:
* Date downloaded (automatic)
* Year of production
* Artists (female performers)
* Componist (producer / website)
* Genre (kind of activity)
* Comments (keywords for example about appearance of artists)
* Playcount (automatic)
And then you can search for combinations of these criteria using smart playlists.

BUT... Itunes only tracks the number of times a video is played. Mostly I don't watch a video till the end (I like my videos! ). So actually I'm looking for a solution that tracks how many minutes/hours I played a video instead of the number of times. This information is important to me since, after some time, it becomes an accurate indicator of how much I like each video. (At least it works that way for my music.) Edited on May 13, 2012, 08:30am

I have between 6 and 9 TB of stuff on three different machines. I pick one randomly when I want to look at something. There are a few fav models that I often select. Other times I just make a random selection.

Yes, I am usre I overlooked some pics and videos.

Its takes me looking at each item and there area allot, as names and photos change per supplier. Since 2007
