The more, the merrier

This thread is meant as a question and a wish to make this PU even better.
There are millions of pornusers in the world today. But only 3033 registered users here at PU.
That's not good enough! Of course it's not us PU's that should promote this site - but anyway.
If we get more serious users to join the team, we may get better/more reviews, comments and warnings.
There is a tendency to some kind of an elite here with some drop-outs. (Like jd1961 and Raging Budist)
But again we have great new PUs joining once in a while and the intertaction is just fine - compared to Porn Inspector or the Rabbit, for exampel.
So this is an all around question: Let's get more people to join, but how?
(And , folks, this is not on behalf of TBP - entirely PU) "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

I think Porn Users should band together, purchase an Airship and fly it on an epic adventure around the world - dropping pro-porn pamphlets on the unenlightened masses below to guide them to their home away from home: 66.115.137.185

I'm pretty sure we'd end up stranded on an uncharted island full of giant insects and dinosaurs, but hey, that would be something to write home about!

I'm going to go dust my Pith Helmet off and clean out the over-and-under elephant gun. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

If we're going to have an airship (great idea) I recommend something with a stiff sense of purpose...could we agree on that it is a Zeppelin (aka. a rigid airship)...keeping with the Porn link...and the Hindenberg was one.

the slogan on the side could read.

I'll gladly accept the posting! I think it would be fitting for the PU Airship to be the first airship to successfully mate with the Empire State Building in NYC - cross winds and drafts be damned! "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

That reminds me of the

MAKE 7 UP YOURS

t-shirts from back when Orlando Jones was their spokesman.

In all seriousness - I would indeed love to see some shirts advertising the site in an ambiguous and mysterious fashion. An extension of the porn users graphic perhaps. Something that is interesting enough to spark a conversation but not explicit enough to make people run in the other direction. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

Black mailing organizations with threats of invading their air space - I like your paradigm-breaking thinking! Also, what is stop us from Airship related piracy? A crew of rowdy PU riffraff would be perfect to board and pillage those scalawags with their namby pamby lesser airships, mucking about over stadiums and the like. With cannons, don't forget the cannons.

Of course, since this is all promotion for Porn Users, don't we get naked cheerlearders as well? Maybe they could be extra specialized - like an all nude review variant of the Andrew Sisters, with close harmony singing and the like. I tend to agree with your satement that people prefer to remain anonymous. That's too bad, because the more voice we can add, the more views we can get. MInd you a 1000 member is not that bad. Long live the Brown Coats.

Like I said elsewhere on the site, when it comes down to buying food or downloading porn, food is, regrettably, going to win every time.

I'm still around. If Obama does what he says he's going to do for the little guy, maybe I'll have enough spare cash to join a site now and then. I've been looking - got a few in mind... Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

More exposure is needed. I found this site cause some adult site I joined posted a link to here with a positive review.

Why not request a link-back from all the adult sites? Pornusers link to them and thus gain paying customers, so the least they can do is link back?

When we first opened, we did just that. However, what we quickly discovered is that it tended to lead to a lot of reviews/comments by "overly enthusiastic fans" who's input was often seen (by regulars) to be akin to shilling for the site.

So, while we still offer webmasters the option of linking back to their listing at PornUsers, we no longer really activly promote it. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

To me it looks as though the site is really healthy. You appear to be getting new members all the time, and quite a few of them post on the forum. I'm a newbie myself. I just barged in and started posting. Most forums have a relatively low ratio between members and regular posters. I was looking in here for quite a long time before I started posting. What attracted me was the intelligence of the membership. I think that jumps out. But sometimes you can get people who are really rude or unpleasant in some way. I would not like to see that happen here.

Agreed.

Having been a member of dozens of discussion forums, from poetry to philosophy to music to whatever, I have to say that this forum is tops in that it's been going for nearly a year and there's hardly any of the stuff that tends to plague a lot of boards, like flaming, trolling, or arguments that run on for page after page. Everyone here is civil and the moderators are fair and watchful without being obtrusive or officious. Who'd have thunk it, a porn board that is an excellent example of how an online forum should be run?

Congrats to the staff and thanks to fellow members.

That was well said. I've been on other forums and some of the moderators really get into the micro-managing. They send you this list of rules that's a mile long and come down every time they think you've deviated from their straight and narrow. And they get flamed for it by people who've had enough and no longer care if they get kicked out. It's flicker-flame-gone. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I'm a newcomer to PU and porn review in general. A few weeks ago, the thought of reading reviews popped into my mind leading me to initiate a Google query. TBP and PU weren't the first sites I looked at. However, when I did stumble upon PU, I was entranced. Now here's a concept I can agree with - real people reviewing sites that either I was planning on joining or showcasing new sites I've never even heard of. What's not to like? I rely more on PU reviews than TBP. I won't say my reviews are the best, however they are getting better. What I like to read and try to write are unemotional, light humored, professional and factual details about the sites. Within the forum I came across a writing guide someone posted. I use it now as my guideline while writing my reviews. Additional thought: screening your text through a spell checker does help.
I think the quality of the reviews will bring more folks into our realm. I personally don't care all that much about the raffle. I honestly do not see me being in contention for it. I read the threads weekly and respond accordingly as well as participate in the polls.
Quality penmanship is what brought me here. The continued user participation will keep me here. Letum prius Dedecus

That would certainly beef up the rolls. On a more serious note, raising the weekly prize money would probably mean having advertising here which would be a negative for me anyways. But, how about having other drawings during the week? Maybe not for cash but for something else? Free memberships, discounts, gear, etc.?

In reality it's hard so say how to get more people to join without some more active web advertising. For me, it took almost a year to join from the time I became aware of the site. I didn't join right away because I wasn't aware of the drawings and I didn't feel compelled to voice off until I got ripped off by a site (from a lot of the low scores that the newbies initially post, I would say this is a common theme).

The forum is a big plus for me but overall I think most people, like I was for a long time, are happy just being anonymous consumer rather than active posters.

One thing that creeps to mind is to offer special discounts or additional discounts to sites for PU members. I think might be a hard one to sell. Another way to generate more site traffic, and possibly more members would be to list the PU site as a separate listing under "other great sites" on TBP home page and links page.

I fervently agree with the idea of having draws for subscriptions! My experiences with winning the Raffle have not been all that positive, but through no fault of TBP. My own ignorance (I redeemed the gift certificates, not knowing what that implied) and Amazon.com's legal restrictions when it comes to exporting electronic stuff like external hard drives to Canada. Yeah, a subscription would be great!

I think another way of attracting new subscribers would be for TBP to get in touch with the webmasters of the generally best-regarded and highly rated sites and have them use the gushing comments of a new user to suggest that they go to PU and repeat them there in a comment that has wider distribution than an email to a webmaster.

It would be above board, no shilling if a new user expressed his appreciation of a site on that site first, and then did it more widely in Porn Users. And after he had joined he would see what a fun site (the forum) as well as valuable resource (the reviews and comments) TBP/PU is.

Anything not kosher about this approach to recruiting that I don't see at the moment? Unless, of course, the new member were somehow to be rewarded by the site he praises in PU .. then it would be dishonest and could be considered shilling. Just a passing thought, most likely not very well thought out.

I agree, with all that - it's similar to the reason I eventually joined. At the beginning I don't think they had a forum, just reviews. The first one I took notice of was Denner. Here was a guy who spoke for us, because he was one of us. Then I saw some of the other reviews, then I noticed they announced a forum was starting up. There I noticed the intelligent contributions, especially one involving Toadsith, and soon I was taking more notice of PU than I was of TBP.

Personally I am all for T-Shirts and such.

Hell make a 4th place on the raffle. The 4th place person gets a shirt, hat, whatever. And also make them available in a shop on the site, or look to someone like cafepress.com to produce the stuff for you. Just a thought out of the air.

I definitely would wear PU shirts and such. I am sure WittyGuy could come up with some funny ones, like his awards forum. :) I want a shirt that is like a jersey....PornUsers with my screen name across the back. You have to admit it would be cool to see someone else in Walmart or whatever wearing a PU jersey with their handle on it, or perhaps a bit creepy. Although, I am not sure if I would be proud or pissed if I seen someone wearing a PU jersey with my name one it.

Will shirts actually produce more members, porbably not enough to worry about, but it would be cool non the less. I've been all about the T-Shirts ever since it was suggested in a poll. I would recommend Zazzle.com over CafePress.com - their product quality is much better. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

I have never been to Zazzle, I will have to check them out.

Checkout this shirt, it is very appropriate for this forum

Although, it seems their site is not working too well, there is no prices on anything and the cart is not working...oh well.

Either way, I think it would be a pretty cool idea and i would definitely buy a few. "For example, badandy400 has taken it upon himself to become the one man Library of Congress for porn with a collection that surely will be in Guinness Book of World Records some day." ~Toadsith~

I am sort of with badandy400 on this one, seeing someone with a T-shirt and realizing they are a member would be a mix of cool and creepy. The web gives us the luxury of sharing our thoughts without actually having to see each other or travel, at least beyond our desks.

Maybe some sort of subliminal advertising would be cool; you see an ad and subconsciously become aware that you must go to PU, but you are not sure why. Very small grass roots advertising would be pretty funny too; imagine some college kid at a big sporting event or concert passing out stickers with a PU logo on it. (I just mention this since I am in school and have to deal with idiots passing out brochures about awareness and diversity every hour of every day, which are nowhere near as interesting as this site.) This is a great web-site and I use it a fair amount. I will commit to writing more reviews. I plan a review on Devil.com and a new one that I just signed up for called 9BuckGrannies, ha, ha. I'm cheap.

I am relying more on downloaded porn than rented DVDs and buying used DVDs.

If I understand correctly, this site is only for reviewing porn that you download. Anyone interested in reviews on other websites where you can buy DVDs cheaply or other informational porn sites like Adult DVD Talks or is that off topic?

Welcome to the site. I'm a newbie myself. I think you can discuss just about anything here on the forum, but the reviewing is separate. You can only review the sites that have the review link.

DVD reviews would be best on DVD review sites. This is a website review site. So I do not think reviewing dvds would fit in all that well. Now assuming you meant to have mention to other sites where reviews of dvds can be found I am sure it would not hurt, but it is not up to me. It is up to the staff to decide who they do business with and if they want to venture into that sort of market.

Now if there is a DVD that you have seen that you must go off about and tell us how much we have to see it than go ahead. But you may want to make a new thread for it. You should not would not go off and review every dvd in your collection though, but if there are one or two that are simply must-haves for any porn collector than please let me know. After all I use some dvd rental sites as well and would not mind looking into them.

Now those other site you mentioned might be good places to ask if people are interested in website reviews. Just the same as you mentioned the dvd sites in this forum. I never knew of those places, I never looked, and I am sure many people there may not have heard of this place.
