Browsers Which Web browser do prefer? For browsing your porn and in general? I've been a Firefox loyalist for a long time but I think Google Chrome has finally won me over. I enjoy the simplicity and speed. I don't even use the download managers anymore because the Chrome download manager seems to do the job fine. (It lacks some bells and whistles of the Free Download Manager but I don't miss them much.) I still use Firefox at work as my primary browser just because of the plug-ins. I think FF 3.5 is a little sluggish.

I use Chrome myself, and have done since my son told me about it. It just seems quicker than ie or firefox. It does have problems with a couple of things, but I either ignore the problem or use ie if it is that important.

I still use Firefox as my primary, even though it is a little unstable and crashes too often. I don't like Chrome's interface and I can't say it feels any faster than Firefox. I guess both are limited by my Internet connection so the difference won't be apparent. For ease of use I prefer Opera but it has occasional compatibility issues with some websites and fails to import settings from Firefox. Internet Explorer 8 is painfully slow (to the point of being bizarre) and I don't know why. I uninstalled Safari as it was completely unstable and, to date, it is the only application which has ever crashed my current OS (Vista). Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

I kind of bounce around. I've noticed certain sites don't like Firefox. The OrgyMax sites for example, the download buttons on Firefox are all out of alignment. Also the Innocent High network had problems displaying correctly in Firefox. I use Firefox though as my default browser. I like Opera and Chrome as well, I've tried another that isn't mentioned much, Flock. If you do much blogging or use any of the social networking sites it's a really nice browser as it runs on the same code as Firefox. Had the same experience with Safari as Ed2009 had. I use IE for a few sites since they do seem to be optimized to work with it. Sandra Shine Live comes to mind. My first time I jacked off, I thought I'd invented it. I looked down at my sloppy handful of junk and thought, This is going to make me rich. - Chuck Palahniuk

I use Firefox 3.6.3. This version does not appear to be as stable as previous ones because it crashed on me twice during the past 24 hours. I would like to give Chrome a go but would like to know if it has a master password so that only I can use it, or at least a password to protect my user names and passwords in between sessions? I have Firefox wipe clean every trace of my activity the moment I shut it down (history, cookies) but it has the ability, somehow, to keep remembering and protecting my passwords even though all other cookies were deleted. I haven't found this in any other browser yet. Once you delete cookies and history etc. your passwords are gone as well unless you want to use an external program.

It's really a shame about Firefox. They used to be hyped as the browser without all the bloat of Internet Exploder. Now it's almost as clunky as IE. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

I use the latest version of Firefox, the browser that I was led to by people here at PU. (Used to use "Exploder," but that's been relegated to links from e-mails, thanks to fucking Outlook.) But Firefox doesn't prance through the Forests of I-Porn like it used to. As others have said, it's sluggish and getting bloaty. It's a real snooze-buttoner on startup. I click that Firefox icon in my sys tray and immediately get a conditioned-response craving for some homemade java. Need something to do! I'm glad we're talking about browsers again. It's good to keep current. Maybe I'll try Google Chrome, but does it handle downloads as well as DownloadItAll? That's one plug-in that I've grown to love. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Internet "Exploder" lol. I like that one. I agree with some of the comments on Safari. I've had some buggy behavior but mostly it's just a slow dog. IE 6 is a nightmare to code for. Yuck!

Ramscrota started a thread early last year about browsers but it's a constantly changing subject so it's good to have a new thread. I use Firefox for pretty much everything. The only time I use something else is when I install/update it and then go Okay, back to Firefox. I think I have both Opera and Chrome installed but it's been months since they were even opened. I don't think I like the interface of either of them, particularly Chrome's which made me feel powerless. It felt like the designers were saying "Cookies and browsing history, why would you ever want to delete that, you silly Internet surfer you!" With Firefox you can tweak a lot of stuff, and if you're really crafty, or just curious, you can type in about:config and look under the hood and start messing around until the engine shuts down. (Actually, I think you have to do that to control image resizing, so it's not all tech geekdom modifications.) Firefox is not quite as fast as it used to be, or at least seemed to be, and it's really crazy how many add-ons are available. I have seen screen shots of some people's Firefox setups and looks like they are trying to run Wall Street while forecasting the weather--insane amount of bullshit making it look like you're watching cable news. I don't remember the last time I even thought about Explorer much less even used it. Oh well, a lot of people still used Windows and Office, so Microsoft isn't going out of business anytime soon. I mainly use Firefox 3.6.3 which while still not as fast as Chrome and Safari, is a vast improvement over FF 3.5 and IE. The increase in speed plus the wealth of available addons make it, for me anyway, the best choice. For work I also have to test pages in all of the other popular browsers which is where FF addons really help out. For example, IE Tab allows you to open a tab within FF that users IE rendering engine, Open In Chrome does something simular except it opens a new Chrome window for link that you want to test in Chrome. The real bane of my life is IE (6,7 and 8 ) they are slow, tend to ignore 90% of web standards but a lot of companies refuse to let their employees to use anything else which quite often means having to do 2 or more versions of website interface code to work with them. I'm very interested in what MS have done with IE 9, its a hell of a lot faster (pretty close to Chrome speeds) and also more compliant, hopefully if people upgrade to that it will make life easier. I could be overly optimistic though as a lot of our corporate clients are still running IE 6 The problem with the world is stupidity. Not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself? Frank Zappa

I know what you mean. IE doesn't support this web standard; doesn't support that. Things that will work in any OTHER current browser but thanks to MS, you have to come up with workarounds since there are hapless users out there with Exploder at the ready. Fuckin' pain in the ass. Makes one really resent the powerful. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I use the latest version of Firefox and while it is a bit slow on the initial start-up I don't really find that it slows things down much. No problems with it crashing on my end either. I haven't really played with Chrome mostly because I got Firefox tweaked the way I like it and I do like all the little add-ons they have for it that the others lack. I could see shifting to Chrome in the future if my side business starts picking up and I need to integrate more business function / links / email all together; Chrome is the best I've heard when it comes to that. Until then, I've pretty much ditched Exploder and only have it installed as backup in case Firefox fuck's me down the road.

It is Firefox for me. I like the ease of use and Download Them All is hand for smaller picture sets at times. The only trouble I run into is the insane amount of RAM it wants to use. I have seen Firefox taking more than a GB of RAM. You are supposed to be able to cap the RAM use but the line in about:config that controls that does not seem to be there for me. I forgot to say I also use Skyfire on a daily basis. Excellent browser on my PDA - has the advantage of supporting just about every format and content type. It's the first browser I've tried which happily plays flash video (and several other embedded formats) without having to start up a separate player. It's nice to be able to browser YouTube, DailyMotion etc. in exactly the same way as on a PC. Webmaster of StripGameCentral and A Measure of Curiosity.

Am I the only one still using Netscape? Use Netscape ONLY for the porn - everything else is Firefox (latest). Netscape has this easy way of watching clips WHILE/during downloading! Explorer can't do that (forget about Explorer in any way) - and Firefox has this strange thing with showing more files at your HD while downloading - (maybe because I'm tech ignorant?). This is not so much about browsers but some of the features of browsers. All of them stop pop-ups these days but is there any way to stop pop-unders? I keep getting one from a dating service and don't even realize that there is an open window from this site until I close my browser.

Possibly--I thought the latest versions of Netscape were last released years ago, like early 2000s. I seem to remember reading it was Microsoft that had worked so hard in the late '90s to take them down since it was becoming such a popular browser. Now I wonder, will they ever get rid of Explorer? This is more platform than browser but has anyone tried out an iPad? I played around with one at work so I couldn't watch porn but I did notice one disadvantage right off the bat. You have to hold the damn thing while you're watching the movies. I'm sure Apple already has some sort of stand for it (that costs a pretty penny, I'm sure) but I'd rather stick with a traditional laptop.

Apple will make some money on the iPad based on hype alone but it's long term life in the market seems shaky. It doesn't really fill any popular niche. It is to big to be portable like a phone yet it's not as useful as a laptop. You can use it like an expensive Kindle but why not just buy a cheaper Kindle? Or a book for that matter. Maybe it will be Apple's first iFlop.

iFlop? If only it were so. Then all the Steve Jobs cultists could stop wasting their money and maybe get a life. But then again Apple has a real knack for making niches for products that never existed until they thought them up/pulled them out of their ass. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Rather than start a new thread, I'll use this one to ask: Has anyone had trouble with Firefox 5.0 not downloading/saving files? I was using it with no problem for a while, but then it stopped downloading and/or saving as ... pdfs, zips, rars, you name it, the link shows, I right click or click, and nada. Sometimes the box for choosing where to save on the drive shows (and often it doesn't now), but when I choose where and click, nothing more happens anyway. I can see from my router if something is downloading or not. Not! And, get this, I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of to fix this problem. Tried EVERY piece of advice from Firefox help, AND I even uninstalled and reinstalled it (version 5.0) and it's the same shit. Meanwhile, I've dusted off my Internet Exploder, and it's downloading! It's an awful browser, clearly written by idiots, but it does do the downloads! I know it's working because I'll be typing a folder name on the desktop and THAT gets interrupted by the "file-from-there-to-here" stupid animated box thing that must run AFTER the download has completed. So (whining, nasal voice) I want my Firefox back! Can anyone help the Drooler get his Drool back? Thanks! I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

I am not exactly happy with Firefox 5 myself, not only can I not use the movies downloader but also one of my favorite GUIs is no longer good with the latest version of Firefox. But the worst thing is that it is buggy. So my question is: can I install Firefox 3.6 OVER Firefox 5, or should I uninstall version 5 first? I am worried about losing some of my present settings if I do. Thanks.

Lately I've been having a problem with some files (videos) that were partial downloads. I would download a video file, and play it, and the video would stop playing long before it was supposed to. I use Firefox 5.0. It turns out that the file size is much smaller than it's supposed to be. This is a new problem for me. I don't know if the problem is because of Firefox, or what. If the problem continues, I might try re-installing an earlier version of Firefox to see if that will fix the problem. I almost never use Microsoft Explorer. The only times I use Explorer is if I can't load the Firefox browser, which has happened a few times lately. But my overall experience is that Firefox is much less of a problem to use than Explorer.

I've also had a similar problem where it appeared that I had downloaded the complete scene but discovered that I was missing at least a 1/4 of the end part upoen playing it on my computer. Mind you it only happened with videos downloaded from the hardfucktales site. I use both IE and Firefox and find that they are starting to look identical. I still primarily use IE for surfing and Firefox for downloading and don't have too many problems with this. I am starting to use IE a little more often to download videos now that they have a download manager. Long live the Brown Coats.

Exactly... I'm a web developer, and I tend to work with Safari during development, testing as I go along. Then I check it works in Firefox, and usually need a few minor tweaks. Then come IE, which invariably bollockses up everything I've done. To be fair, 9 is better. Better being a relative term, but nevertheless, they might actually be trying.

I know what you're going through. I don't know how many times I've looked at a script and there's an addendum for how to work around the Exploder weirdness. BTW, I've finally gotten Firefox 5.0 back into downloading action. Had to do the sacrifice bunt and toss my prefs for the uninstall/reinstall (had tried without that step a couple of times before). But now it's rollin'. After several days of working with Exploder, it's like the difference between a power mower and a scythe. I just have to retrain my hand-eye habits away from taking the cursor over to the Exploder icon. LOL. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. Edited on Jul 28, 2011, 02:17am
