How do you manage/view your porn stash

I currently got sick of mine just put away in a messy order on loads of different drives, I decided I wanted it much more organized. Been a huge task and very boring at times but I'm getting there.

I now have my stash on a 2TB samsung drive and backed up on a 1.5TB samsung story external. I have my fav models with their own directory and then sub directories, Movies_Lesbian, Movies_Solo and Movies_Straight and then a Photo directory with all the galleries in. All my other stuff if categorized in directories like 5_star_Man_&_Woman, 5_star_solo, 5_star_lesbian with sub categories in them which themes i like.

I'm sad I know lol, but I'm really glad I did it, wait i didn't stop there, I still struggled to be satisfied with just viewing them in Windows Explorer folders, I wanted more, so I decided I would create my own website, well obviously not for the web though, just for the desktop. Its based around a fictitious island called Avidity and it has all my fav models and fav celebs with all their galleries and movies listed on their own profile page. Its taking me about a year all in all to do, just doing it in my spare time on a weekend. Finally looking good, still got to create the pages for my movies of non favourite models but I have all the template to do it all now fairly easy. I know web design quite well so its been easy on that front but there has been times when I think why am I doing this, the galleries I view with a slideshow I created.

Just wondered how you guys manage yours and if anyone has created their own site to view their porn. "Women are like tricks by sleight of hand, Which, to admire, we should not understand." WILLIAM CONGREVE

I don’t think that managing your porn collection is ‘sad’ at all. If you have a sizable collection you have to find a way to catalogue it and make it manageable if you ever hope to be able to find anything. Now it might be sad if you did all this work while dressed as Captain Kirk or labeled all your folders in Klingon.

I’m not as tech-savvy as you seem to be. I’d have no idea how to create a desktop website to manage everything. My software skills are pretty limited so I rely on a Word document to track data.

My collection, which is getting close to 3TB now, resides on a fleet of Western Digital Passport drives that range in size from 120GB to 750GB. Those drives are further backed up on larger external drives. I’m pretty careful about backing everything up since I’ve put a lot of time, effort and money into my hobby.

I mostly download DVD scenes and I create a folder with the DVD title and then name the actual file for the female star or stars. For non-DVD websites I create a main folder using the name of the site and then I create folders or files using the name of the female star(s). So I guess you could say that I arrange my collection around the stars since I don’t really track the scenes any other way, like by director, genre, niche, etc.

So that’s the way I store my collection, but I have it catalogued in a pretty simple but effective way: I created a three column Word document. The first column is the name of the DVD (or website if no DVD title – like ALS Scan or Nubiles, for example). The second column lists the name of the female star(s) and the final column is the drive number. So if I want to see Courtney Simpson in Young Cummers 3 I can simply do a word search for any of those terms and then I know which drive it’s on. I’ll admit that my system has some serious limitations, but it works for me and it has worked since I created it a long time ago. And it is probably too big a job for me to change it now. My Word document list runs to almost 110 pages in 12-point print font.

The scary part for me, though, is not that I have that much porn but that I can remember most of what I have. I can’t remember birthdays and if I need more than three items at the grocery store I need to make a list, but I can remember a huge amount of my collection even without the list. All I need the list for is to tell me which drive I need to plug in.

Try ACDSee.

It is primarily an image viewer, but it has some useful database type functions too.

It will still require some level of organisation & discipline to get everything into a coherent format.

I work from a main folder for a website then a folder for each model.

It works very well for me & I have an embarassingly huge photo collection!

It even has a synchronise function for backups.

Managing that growing stash can be a challenge indeed!

For organizing, I do folders by model name and then in those the sites I've found each model in. Some have been on 30 sites or so!

Due to a 500GB drive getting too full, I've recently had to start migrating some of them to another drive, so V-Z have changed address so far. That's OK, except when I need to search for a model to see what I have of her or what names I have her by. (Have gotten into a habit of having a designed model name, then for other sites, as needed, folders named "at(site) as(name).")

For viewing, I just use the interface on trusty old XP: View-->Customize the folder ... -->Pictures. That allows for a slide show viewing in the window, which suits me fine.

I tried doing "web page" versions of galleries back when I had 98 2nd ed. Was taking way too much effort. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Ive struggled with organizing my porn collection in the past. My solution has been a program called digiKam. It is designed for linux but my understanding is that it is available for windows users as well. It's also free, so, gotta love open source.

It was created for the idea of sorting out your picture collections, but it allows you to add videos as well and manages fairly well.

The nice thing about it, in my opinion, is the tagging and rating features. I tag photos and videos based on their content examples are: Softcore, Blowjob, Swallow, Lexi Belle etc etc

Then when I am in the mood for a certain video I can just do a tag search and find the video I want easily. It really helps me keep track of my porn.

Great replies guys , thanks for the great insight to how you keep track and manage your collection, its a great idea having the word, document, never really thought about that. I will defiantly check out the digikam software and ACDsee, both sound good.

I know what you mean though about backing up rearadmiral, its so essential when you have spent so much time on the organization of all of it, I'd be gutted if I lost all those movies, all that time wasted. That's what kept me going on with it all, is the thought that I'd spent so many hours doing this, have to complete it or it will be all for nothing.

Yeah I only meant sad in the fact that its taken me so long to organize it, some people would think I'm wasting my life away, but to be honest as I guess its the case with lots of people here, collecting porn is like a hobby, just like some people like collecting stamps or baseball cards etc, some people like collecting porn.

It is a nightmare keeping track though, especially with the hard drive situation when you fill one and you end up with loads. I got sick of the swapping things about, I currently have them all on the 2TB internal like I said in my first post and its so much better for me to have it all their, obviously some have bigger collection than me and require more space.

Next thing I'm going to have to do is get a better monitor to view it all on. I'm still got a 19inch screen and have a 24" on my works computer in the office and that's much better for browsing porn but my collection is on my old machine so have to put up with the small screen. Have to wait till christmas though for the new screen though.

What size screens do you guys view on. "Women are like tricks by sleight of hand, Which, to admire, we should not understand." WILLIAM CONGREVE

My collection is on a 500GB hard drive. I mainly keep videos, sorted into folders named after the Web site I downloaded them from. For sites I currently have a subscriptions for I download the files into a "new" folder so I can sort them later.

I use the Windows Media Player Library to add metadata to my downloaded files to sort/filter. One thing I do need to do is learn how to backup that metadata otherwise all that labeling is out the window if the file gets corrupted.

The metadata I keep is: Site name, actor (though fairly useless these days), category (hardcore, solo, blowjob, etc.), race (including white/Euro & white/American), hair color, rating (1-5 stars) and a free form field I use for keywords.

Started to manage my stash in models names - that's one way to do things.
But then there's ALL that stash with new or old material and a list of names/alias longer than a New York Phone Book... It's a mess.
Then started to manage according to monthly downloads at different external drives - now I got six different drives with about 1,6 TB material - and that's an even worse mess, when you some day say:
"Hey, where is that particular vid or pix set that I suddenly remember to have enjoyed some time ago?"
Then the search is a bit heavy AND sometimes not succeeded - because you just can't remember under which name this file was placed...And no matter what photo-programs and video ditto you use they can't help you - you got to have your own system, but this user will never get it 100%, never....
But ok, sometimes the challenge can be fun other times a nuisance...

I'll never get the perfect system. "I don't drink anymore - I freeze it, and eat it like a popcicle"

My videos are not well organized but I keep my pictures in folders of 700 pics each with my own weird, personal titles. I like to sort by picture type and not by model. I have categories for non-nude butts, bare butts, non-nude breast, nude breast, all-fours, sitting, spread-eagled, panties, wet-clothes, bathroom/shower, changing-pics, and even one for just faces. You know what I hate the most about selfish people? It's that they don't think enough about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

I try to keep my collection on as few drives as possible. When I fill one up, I buy another one, which is the largest available HD that I can afford at that time.

I label my files first with the actress' name, the scene/video name, and lastly in parenthesis, I list where I got it from. For example: "Cody Lane in Un-Natural Sex 18 (Video Box).wmv". It's not the most detailed file naming system, but it works for me.

You wanna know how I manage my 50 TB of porn!?!? I dont! It is a huge freakin mess! I am open to suggestions on how to manage my porn that is spread across 40 or so drives in a cost effect way. Here's an idea: Find someone who has great organizational skills, impeccable honesty and self-accountability, and a ravenous love of porn. Have that person organize your porn stash. And if copies of some of it get made, well ... you don't know nothin' ... I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.

Badandy asked me about this elsewhere on here, but I'll respond here so others can see how I do it.

The first step is to get the Bulk Rename Utility I mentioned in the thread I started on your favorite free apps. To me, the key to keeping things neat is to organize the names.

My next step is to create folders within folders. The main folder is always the site name. After that, how they break down depends on the site. For some, they're broken down by model name, for others, by category - like hardcore, solo, lesbian, etc. I've also taken to creating an Excel spreadsheet with columns for each drive, listing what main folders are on each drive. This reminds me that I left out another one of my favorite free apps - OpenOffice. It's basically a free version of the Microshaft Works Suite. Their version of Excel is called Calc.

If your collection is in complete disarray, it can be time consuming to get it all organized, but once it's done, it's a relatively simple matter to keep new content organized as you go along. But, once you do get it under control, you'll be amazed how simple it is to find what you're looking for. And, if you ever allow others to see your collection, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the comments they make. I've allowed a few people to see what all is on my drives - including the G-rated stuff, and they all say they are impressed with how well laid out everything is.

Yeah - a touch of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder helps.
Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity.

-Stuff from a certain sites I keep in a folder for that site. Pocket drive for that.

-DVD's I own, folder for scenes extracted for whole DVD, or if just 1 or few scenes then I'll name it and toss in a "Misc" folder. Couple pocket drives here. DVDs in boxes in a closet now. (Sidenote: Man I wish I could just DL single DVD-MPEG2 scenes...)

*DVD Name* - *Starlet (and hired dick if well known)*

-Japan AV stuff I have yet another pocket drive for. Usually label those

(Product code) *Starlet*
Don't even bother w/ title since translations always have degree of freedom in interpretation

Have some old desktop drives as well w/ older stuff I barely watch.

In general, different drives/folders for different niches/series/sites/etc. Also helps if drives are different models/cases.

I've simplified my porn collection maintenance recently. I currently keep all the video files in a directory structure broken down by the site I downloaded from. If a file does not already have the model(s) names as part of the file name I'll rename the file after I download it so I can do a quick search on model name.

I used to use the Windows Media Player library to add all sorts of meta data to each file so I could search and sort. I found after awhile it was a pain to add the data and I rarely used it accept to sort on certain models or sites -- which is already handled by the physical files so I stopped maintaining the meta data. I often use VLC to generate a random playlist from my entire collection which makes the meta data even more useless.

My approach is rather rudimentary.

I start with the model name then create sub directories for each babe by the site name. If there are two or more babes in a video, I post it in each babe's folder.

I tag the file name with HD and @@ where appropriate. (@@ means top notch boobs and is a good way to help a search.

Ok - here's my two cents worth. Along with the models name I give a rating as to how good the scene is. I'm lucky inasmuch as I am very limited with the type of porn I like to watch (deep throat) so I've not yet got 500GB.

The other thing that I like to do is edit the individual scenes down. If there is too much whacking going on, I delete it out - or anything that doesn't turn me on. This makes the files smaller. I do keep a copy of the original file.

I might take this opportunity to brighten up the picture on older vids, add background music, play with the panning in a scene, add some other digital wizardry to some to spice it up.

Then I will put together double dvds of my favorites to watch on my television. Don't have the most comfortable chair at my computer. These dvds have transitional photo's that I take out of the vids, intro's, chapters to find parts in a scene, etc. I also print labels with pithy titles - Fluid Dynamics, Getting to the Root of the Problem, presented by JJ Tool Co 2007 (the year the dvd was made). Keep them in a cd notebook to keep them clean and to sort through to find one to pop in.

With really larger collections, this might be overwhelming to do, though I would think there ARE favorite scenes you'd like access to.

One of the things I've noticed (and probably why our collections get so big) is the thirst to see new models or new scenes with old friends. I think this is because if we had in RL a sexual Ground Hogs day repeat it would get boring. I mean there were scenes that really turned me on for a time, but then I found myself moving on to something newer - not necessarily hotter but newer. I've a feeling that this part of our human nature is what keeps the porn industry moving forward.

Now if they can just find a way for the girls to get the guys off without a masturbation money shot, that would be brilliant! If it ain't grits, it must be a Yankee.

If you're going to lay her head over the pool table and fuck her throat, get your fucking hand off her throat!

How to manage your porn stash is a very apt question, as most of us grow an ever larger collection.

Initially, I tried ideas like the use of multiple folders to sort by type, or Word documents etc to create some sort of searchable list, but in the end, this became too clumsy.

What we need here is a database, so thats what I created in the end, using the excellent and free Personal Video Database software at

http://www.videodb.info/forum_en

This software is intended for databasing mainstream films, but is highly customisable. So you can disable fields to do with Oscars etc, and insert your own custom fields for how you categorise your collection (the less said the better, I think). You can add the performers names to the information card for each film, so at a click you can find all films featuring a given person. You can also create screenshots via the interface (manually or automatically), so you can display a few pictures every time you look at a given film, useful for remembering whats in each one. You can also give a star rating of your own to each film, and add your own comments along other info like running time which the software will import itself.

It takes lots of time to create a database (I normally add a few at a time) but they bring lots of power in return. So if you want to find all the films containing a certain lady, which contain a foot fetish scene, and which you rated 8 stars or above, they can be found and played from the same interface at a few clicks. The database itself can be passworded to prevent anyone opening it by accident.

On the subject of data security, I would recommend that you both backup and encrypt your collection. Backing up is a no-brainer. All hard drives fail eventually, with the nominal rate being about 1 drive per hundred each year. The move towards ever higher capacity drives has probably increased this failure rate, with modern drives flying by the seat of their pants. Witness the rash of famous drive manufactures plagued by embarrassing mass failures in recent years. PU devotees are likely to have large stashes, and so will be more exposed to the 1 or 2Tb drives than most, so take precautions. With such drives costing less that a years membership at most sites, it would be foolish to trust an entire stash accumulated over many years to just one drive. So keep at least one spare copy of your data elsewhere.

It may be worth considering where elsewhere is. Fire, flood or theft may lose you the backup drive alongside the original copy. A lot of Americans changed their opinion of where was a safe place to keep a backup after hurricane Katrina. Online backup could be an option for some users, but limits on online storage or data uploading limits imposed by your ISP could prohibit this option for many users. Your backup could be kept far away for safety (at the cost of less ease of updating) and this brings me to my third point. Encryption.

Unbreakable, free encryption is now readily available from the likes of TrueCrypt etc

http://www.truecrypt.org

Definitely a program to learn to use before using for all your data, TrueCrypt allows the creation of encrypted volumes (all, or part of a hard drive). Given a long random password (or supplemented by a keyfile which TC will create for you) the result is a totally unbreakable container, which appears as a removable drive once unlocked and once dismounted again, returns to just random data. Such a drive, when unmounted, does not appear to even have been formatted by Windows etc. Just remember that you create an encrypted container first, then move your data into it. It is not designed to encrypt data in situ!

Whilst the seriously clever adversaries could probably deduce that the data most probably was encrypted, they would never be able to open it given a sufficiently long password or keyfile. To most less tech users, it would just appear to be a bare/unformatted drive. This could make it a lot less embarrassing to collect a lost/stolen drive if it was ever returned to you by someone later, as well as preventing your collection being stumbled into by someone using your PC.

A final piece of free software worth considering is Microsofts Synctoy 2.1, which makes synchronising your original & backup drives a breeze. Edited on Dec 05, 2010, 07:16am

Good advice all around, user2000. I have been using True Crypt for years because it would take all the resources of my present Government to break my code. I keep nothing on an internal drive but switch the Porn I download from my download folder to the encrypted external drives almost immediately.

Great for your peace of mind, especially once you advance in years and could find yourself not waking up some morning.

Porn is a legacy I would not care to leave to my wife who is in "don't ask, don't tell mode" when it comes to my hobby, or to my children or grandchildren. So the thought that all they would find would be unformatted external drives is comforting.

I, personally, don't see the need to create a data base (even though it is extremely good advice) because I collect willy nilly whatever strikes my fancy. A couple of years later I look at it again, find that the times and advanced technology have not been kind to the material and delete to make room for the latest HD video / picture set. I'm more like an impulsive shopper than a true collector!

I love this topic! Great to see that others have the same problems and needs that I do. I've got about 30TB of porn sorted alphabetically by film title across 10 external hard drives, and I'm working on an Excel database that I can sort by title, studio, starlets, dick, director, year, and rating. I'm also considering adding a field for the "action" that it contains, like anal, dp, creampie, etc, but I'm not sure how to make it so that I can sort by fields with multiple entries. (This knowledge would also come in handy when it comes to the "starlets" field.) What would be nice is if there were a program I could download, like Collectorz has for comic books, mainstream DVD/Blu-rays, etc, for porn, so that I could key in the title/scene name, and the program would prefill with the rest of the info that I desire, plus cover images, links to the stars' pages on IAFD, that kind of thing. What would it take to create such a program?

The thing about having it in some semblance of order is that keeping it organized prevents duplicates, as well as helping me find holes in my collection. Additionally, if I want to view a specific scene, it sure is nice to know who, what, and when as I'm looking for it. One further benefit is that having that info can come in handy when I'm looking to get info on a scene I've got that somehow doesn't have that title. If it's a girl I'm unfamiliar with, I can browse through the girls that I've already identified to put a name to her face (or ass or titties or whatever) then I can start researching to narrow down what exactly I've got. Same goes for recognizable scene furniture coming in handy sometimes for figuring out what studio, for instance.

What would be nice is if there were a program I could download, like Collectorz has for comic books, mainstream DVD/Blu-rays, etc, for porn, so that I could key in the title/scene name, and the program would prefill with the rest of the info that I desire, plus cover images, links to the stars' pages on IAFD, that kind of thing. What would it take to create such a program?

The thing about having it in some semblance of order is that keeping it organized prevents duplicates, as well as helping me find holes in my collection. I was thinking about writing an application to manage my porn collection more efficiently. Probably written in python.

To make it effective for everyone i would need to create a database for a specific site and download all their content and generate md5 hashes for the video files. The database will contain all information on the scenes, thumbs, covers etc.

When the end user installs it, it will scan their video collection and generate the md5 hashes and match them up to the correct video in the database. Once all the media has been scanned you will be able to view it in the application with all the video information (blur, cover, thumbs, models, model pictures, genres etc).

I was also going to adda a feature to auto download new scenes or scenes featuring a specific genre or model.

Right now I'm in the middle of writing a script to auto download everything from wowgirls, or wowporn. Once i create the database i can start writing the application. But it probably won't get done for a while because I'm a complete noob when it comes to programming. Edited on May 14, 2014, 01:15am

Good luck with that Josiah. We've had others here in the past talk about writing a porn stash database manager before but apparently nothing has come of it. I think the big problem is that the user has to spend a lot of time creating tags and otherwise playing with the downloads that it becomes more of a job than what it's worth. Still I hope it works out for you and let us know if you succeed ... if so then

I've thought about stuff like this too, but then decided I'd rather spend that time looking at new porn. Good luck to you though, it is about time for an app like this. It's useful to know Python, even if the app turns out to be too ambitious of a project.

Once I thought how nice it would be to have an app to find duplicate photos in my collection. Then I waited a few years, and someone else made that exact app. Whether you make this app yourself or not, it is a good idea, and I think eventually we will have something like this. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off.

I wouldn't have to create the data base manually though, the site has all the information already.

So far my script logs into wowporn, loads the video page and collects download links & the unique ID for each scene. Then places all the information into an xml file.

When i look at the script this weekend, ill add heaps more.

Soon ill get it to load each page and store all the scene data (Blur, cover, thumbs, genre etc)and will add it to a xml file. Then i'll get the script to go through the xml and download every video and calculate the md5 hash.

The script is written in python, but creating a full GUI (graphic user interface) application might take me a while, because i'm knew to scripting/programming and i'll have to learn as i go. Edited on May 16, 2014, 12:33am

I'm a pretty "compulsive" collector, and have been at it for at least 10 years. In that time I have been a member of numerous paysites, adding to my collection all the time.

I used to use folders, until I reached about 0.5Mio images, at which time I decided I'd need something more robust. Folders don't allow you to cross-reference (e.g. for images with several models), and you can't (easily) link video, of which I have also amassed a serious quantity over the years.

So I set out designing my own collection manager application. I use embedded EXIF metadata tags inside the .jpg files which I insert using exiv2 (exiv2.org), and this metadata is then indexed along with filename, path and md5 hash in Solr (lucene.apache.org/solr/). Finally I built a web frontend using PHP, Symfony (symfony.com) and Twitter bootstrap (getbootstrap.com)

I started out on all this about 3-4 years ago, and it works really well (for me at least). The collection now contains 3.7Mio images and it usually takes me about 3-4 seconds to find the model and/or set I'm looking for, and its associated videos.

So it's a bit of work to set it all up and develop the missing pieces, but it is definitely worth it if you have an ever-growing collection like me...

Hope this inspires someone Edited by Staff on Jun 27, 2014, 06:16pm (Khan: removed direct links)

When you're doing manual backups, you should run chkdsk or the utility of your choice on your backup disc before updating it, especially if it has been a while.

I just caught a bad disc like this. It was a backup 4Tb Western Digital drive that I hadn't updated in about a year, and I was going to re-purpose it as a primary since my collection has grown and I don't have any empty drives on hand. Luckily I checked it first, otherwise the data on the primary might have been corrupted.

Now it's time to order more drives. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off.

Absolutely correct.

I have two 2 Tb externals that I use. They are mirror images.

Also, a great time to get some additional hard drives; the prices are quite low.

Hi guys.

Sorry for reviving such an old post, but I was searching for the 'state of the art' in porn stash software and found this thread and felt compelled to write here.

I'm a software engineer who loves porn. For a while now I think of writing a software (like many here) to manage the stash, but I think my approach is a bit different and I'd like to hear what you think.

The problem to solve is: I have an ever-growing porn collection in an external hard drive, all messed up. Tons of folders, no real structure, videos and images mixed up, some sorted in folders, some mixed up, etc. It's a mess.
So...

1- How to organize everything in a way that makes specific content easy to find?

e.g.: I want to see all my pictures featuring a girl on her knees wearing pink socks (c'mon, you know porn tastes can get that specific).

2- How do I make the collection coherent?

e.g.: I have a FLV video downloaded from Xvideos which was ripped from some paid site. I also have the full HD video from the site (which I bought later). Inside the disk they are in very different places/folders.
I'd like to be able to see that I have two media files for the same 'set'.
Same goes for image stills that sometimes comes with the video.

3- How can I make the stash handy, easy to 'use'?

e.g.: OK, I'm seeing all my media that fits some criteria. How do I display this in a nice way?

With these needs in mind, I've come up with a bunch of ideas. Essentially the app would be divided in two fronts, one to categorize your media, the other to use it. Maybe the same app, I don't know.

The first would scan your stash and let you categorize every item (in handy ways, as you wish - file by file, folder by folder, etc), and it would revolve around TAGS, not categories. This way, a single item can fit in various classifications.

It would ask you for the source of your download (the full link, the original website, etc - everything that could make it easy to find it again in case you ever lost it); it would ask you for the metadata about the file (is this a scene from a site? which site? what's it called? which actors and actresses appears in this item? etc); it would let you tag and group it with other items belonging to this same 'set'; among various other features.

The second one would make the best use possible of this database: let you search for tags and filter what you see in real-time; find content based on any criteria you can think of; play videos, display gifs, show images and sets of images in a nice, easy-to-navigate way; have cool random-pick features, etc

I like the video previews you get when you mouse-over a video thumbnail on these porn-tubes, so this would probably be a web app, to run local on your machine. But maybe a desktop app would suffice, don't know.

Thinking of the long run, I also think of adding cool smart features to the categorizer: try to automatically look for links for a given set based on the website name and scene title. Stuff like that.

Going even further, I think of letting this have a download/queue manager of its own - I don't know how you guys browse porn but I often have tons of links on text files to 'download later', and some content is more or less friendly to downloading using regular means.

Sounds big, but I'm really looking into it.
I'm used to breaking down complex software into smaller parts: first of all I'd like to have my full collection properly tagged and categorized. That's my point of start.

Hell, it could even become a product(and maybe more generic, for media categorization/browsing in general, not only porn, who knows).

Do you think you guys would benefit from something like that?

Thanks and nice to meet you all!

I tell you what I would like. A program that would catelog all my scenes based on tags. Sort them into folders and on the folders put a attractive picture. Kind of like Videoone but on my own hard drive. I find looking at a nice picture first can really get you in the mood but I lack the skill to edit a picture to the video or folder I want. So I have a lot of videos that you have to know the video to know what to expect and I hate that. There is money making potential in a program that would organize, tag and image folders and videos to our preferences. 1Ti 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

The folders I had for Windows XP allowed me to put photos from the set or a snapshot of a video on the folders, but with Windows 7 the folders are different and I haven't found a way to do that. I have VLC Media Player and can take snapshots of any video while watching them. I use the software that came with my Windows, called Paint, to make any alterations of these snapshots. It's actually fun trying different creative effects that Paint has to offer.

My method of organization is primarily by website; like DDF or Reality Kings and then sub-folders of solo, lesbian, hardcore and any other porn category that pops up. Then each video or photo set folder is labeled with the name of the primary females. If I consider a a file exceptional, I put an X in front of the performers name. That way I know it is one of my favorites. So if I want to see Eve Angel, I go to DDF and pick either solo or lesbian and then select from the folders labeled with Eve's name. I also put photos together that are the same size. As we all know the newer photos and videos keep getting bigger. It's far from perfect, but I find most any file I'm looking for. I just have a problem because some performers work for more then one website and it is hard to remember which site a set originated from. Warning Will Robinson Edited on Jun 25, 2015, 01:06pm

Sounds like what I'm doing. The only minor difference is that I create sub-files for each female. I use Win 7 as well.

In other words, all videos go to My Videos, a folder in My Documents that collects all videos I download.

Then I create the individual model folders with a sub-folder for the site.

Example...

My Documents
...My Videos
......Mandy Dee
.........DDF
.........Met Art
.........21 Sextury

I don't set up the genre in the folder structure.

I use Down Them All where it's very easy to create the sub-folders when setting the download. Example: My Documents\My Videos\Mandy Dee\MetArt downloads the file directly to the correct folder.

I'm a video guy, but occasionally I download video sets. In those cases I create yet another sub-folder; Photos.

By the way, I use an exclamation point (!) rather than an X to notate "special" files because the explanation point always places the file first when alphabetizing. Edited on Jun 25, 2015, 06:49pm

Ok guys after much trial and effort I think I have decided the best way to sort a porn collection. I owned 5 TB of porn on two external hard drives. But I found I did not look at most of the scenes (And they were disorganized).

So I went though the painstaking process of cutting 40% of my collection so I could have two mirror drives in case one failed. I decided personally two drives would be my limit. If I find a new scene I delete one at the bottom of the pecking order.

So how do I organize?

When I used to surf porn I was most attracted to Tube styles sites like Video One. We all have personal tastes so it is not surprising to say no matter what tube site I went to I would always look at the same 30 categories.

So I made a list of my 30 most important categories and made folders for them. Important to note my categories are all sex related, not site related, not actress related. The reason for this is Actresses do not always do doggy, deep throat ... etc etc.

Then I looked at EVERY scene I owned and re-named them like this: Actress Name, 5-7 tags based on Preference. Example 1: If a scene has a Flexible girl gets tagged Girl Name Flexible etc etc. Then it automatically gets placed into the flexible folder because that was my #1 priority.

Then I prioritized my 30 categories with rules based on preference. Example 1: All Gangbangs with DP would ALWAYS go into the gangbang folder no matter what.

Finally I found out how to get the image I want and put it on the Folders. So now my Hard Drives look like mini tube sites with only the sexual proclivities that I am interested in. When I am in the mood for Deep Throat I can easily find 40 quality scenes and say 5 with Riley Reid. When I am in the mood for Big Dick Small Chick I can easily find 100 scenes and say 10 with Piper Perri.

The reason I do not use a Website folder is I found it a terrible way to search for the fetish I wanted. The reason I do not use specific pornstar folders is as I mentioned they do not always include the thing I want in every scene.

It took me several weeks but now I am very happy. My scenes are well organized. Best of all when I find a new superior scene now I know exactly what scene to cut! Because I made that list of Preferences.

I honestly think I have cracked the Holy Grail for content management. I look forward to any questions or feedback from my peers. On a personal note some of the Tag decisions were REALLY difficult. But when I asked myself what I liked best about said scene it always became clear even if it had 10 tags. As an example there is a excellent scene from the movie "Get My Belt" and I agonized over that scene for like 5 mins. It seemed to have everything but in the end the scene totally smacked of BDSM so there it happily went and know I will always now where it is =).

Cheers friends =) 1Ti 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; Edited on Jul 19, 2015, 12:53am (Pyrenees: minor edits)

I recently set up a NAS system with 44 Tb capacity, and by building it from the ground up, I was able to cut costs significantly over commercial systems.

I was previously using multiple external hard drives connected to my laptop via a USB hub. This resulted in a tangled mess of USB and power cables. Eventually I ran out of connections on the USB hub as well. Finally, I wanted the ability to access my collection via my wireless network so that I could access it anywhere at home without being connected to the USB hub.

NAS is the solution to these problems. Due to the current size of my collection plus the need for extra capacity for future growth, I was going to need an 8 bay NAS. I looked at commercial systems, and learned that when you get away from the 1 to 4 bay home market, NAS gets expensive. The Synology DS1815 seemed to be the most economical at $999 (hard drives not included).

I wanted to see if I could put together a cheaper but comparable system. I realized that I could cut costs by interfacing a multi hard drive enclosure with a mini PC.

For an 8 bay enclosure I used the MediaSonic ProBox 8. It can interface with a PC via USB 3.0 or SATA, and it features two cooling fans to decrease the rate of hard drive failure due to high operating temperature. It is a great bargain at $269.99. It does only support drive capacities up to 6 Tb, while most modern NAS systems support 8 Tb drives, but I do not anticipate this to be an issue. I'll probably want to upgrade the enclosure by the time I switch to 8 Tb drives.

It is amazing how cheap mini PCs are on the market today. I purchased a new Dell Inspiron 3050 mini PC with a J1800 processor, 32 Gb SSD, and 2 Gb of RAM. It was a steal at $175!

One minor issue with the system was that since there is no graphics card, all graphics processing is done by the processor's on board GPU. This resulted in slow thumbnail loading, occasionally choppy video, and image cropping due to overscanning on my HDTV. I was albe to relatively easily solve the first two problems by optimizing the GPU's power management settings, and the third problem wasn't much of an issue since I only needed to use my HDTV as a monitor for the initial setup.

The other issue was that, although the system was advertised as preloaded with Windows 8.1 with the option to upgrade to Windows 10, it actually came with Windows 10. See my thread on Windows 10 for a discussion of the privacy issues there. In the end, I had worked so hard to put together this system, and I was loving it so much, that I didn't have the energy left to return it for a Windows 8.1 machine. There are supposedly unofficial modifications that can prevent Windows 10 from "phoning home," and I will be looking into that next.

Next, I needed to tackle the issue of accessing the system remotely. It was easy to share my drives over the network. I also wanted the ability to manage all aspects of the system remotely and log in remotely after a reboot. I was disappointed to learn, however, that remote login was only available on Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise, not the Home version that came pre-loaded with the mini PC. I was able to use Adobe TeamViewer as a work-around though, it allows you to log in even after a reboot and without a user locally logged in, and it even allows for remote access over the internet via an encrypted connection.

So, rather than buy 64 Tb of storage capacity in a commercial NAS for $999, I was able to get 44 Tb of capacity for only $445. As an added bonus, I was also able to set up the mini PC as a network print server.

I had put off doing this for a while because of the work involved, but now I don't know why I waited so long. I would definitely recommend NAS for those of you out there with multiple external drives. Better to be pissed on, than to be pissed off. Edited on Feb 27, 2016, 11:47am

My first external HDD were 30Gb and 40 Gb. They set me back $100, and both gave up the ghost after about 1-1/2 years. They are now very useful as paperweights.

My question for LPee is, are you available to set me up with 20 Tb of storage accessible via Wifi? (I just saw a 3Tb available at $89.99 plus tax. Right now I can use that 3 Tb space (barely) but those super hi def videos are just getting larger.) Edited on Feb 28, 2016, 10:52am

Jumping on cheap large capacity drives isn't necessarily the best way to go. I noticed some of my cheaper purchases were beginning to make a lot of noise even though they were less than a year old and started asking questions about reliability. After talking to a few local computer repair people (NOT like Best Buy geeks) that they're getting a lot of people with drive failures with drives over 1 or 2 terabytes so I went out and replaced the cheap ones with more reliable drives. Turns out my beloved Seagates aren't fairing well these days, so I've moved to Hitachis. They cost more but, from what I've read, the reviews and test figures are much better.

Wow! And here I was all proud of my computer having access to 3TB of storage. Your system makes mine look like a Flintstones creation, haha I guess it is time for me to upgrade (plus I running out of space...) Thanks for the detailed rundown of your research. I would mention, I'm still planning on running Windows 7 for the foreseeable future. I don't like 8, and don't trust 10. Hopefully 11 is the next 7, whenever that happens. I just wanted to drop in here and say a huge thanks to all the advice I read in this thread. It was a huge help. I ended up building my current porn storage system based entirely on this thread.

I bought a MediaSonic ProBox 4 and currently have 3 x 3Tb Western Digital hardrives installed. It can hold up to 4 hardrives so I still have a lot more room to expand.

I also installed this pornorganizer software to help organize everything. It is a really great piece of software and best kf all its free. Check it out.

I binge and purge every few months to counteract my tendency to hoard...

I move the videos and photos that I find myself going back to every so often into a favorites folder. While everything else stays in the general folder and gets watched one last time and then deleted.

After all, I kind of feel that sometimes it's the thrill of the hunt that I enjoy more than looking at the porn. Well, I mean beyond initially viewing it the first few times, because normally it seems hottest when it's freshest.

Hi peeps,
I’m pretty new here and I was reading forum threads. I stumbled on this thread and I find this a very interesting thread. Organizing data is a very personal thing and I guess everyone has his or her personalized way of storing valuable data. Some years ago I started to store everything on an external hard disk drive. Unfortunately I lost twice my complete collection that I downloaded from a number of porn websites due to hard disk drive failure. Before I started again to collect porn I took the necessary time before setting up a new collection. I also took into consideration that since the birth of 4 K files disk space would again be an essential issue. I started to save up money and invested it into a NAS system. I don’t use any software to organize my porn collection like some people do. I still work with a system of folders and subfolders. It took some serious thinking and I changed a few times the way how my folder and subfolder system was organized. In the beginning I simply made a folder per porn star and stored the content I was subscribed to in subfolder. The main folder contained a picture of the porn star and a printout containing the stats of the specific porn star. Subfolders for the actual content were created on dates and not on a naming system (for example 2016-09-01). Each subfolder contained a folder picture, a print out of the gallery and the actual content being a video, pictures or both. These days I do it differently. I create one folder per website (for example Brazzers). The subfolders are now created based on the site map. I have one subfolder containing all the models, a picture and their stats. The other subfolders are based on what the site has to offer. A possibility could be that I create a subfolder scenes again based on dates and containing a print out of the scene, pictures of the models that are performing, a picture of the scene and the actual content. That is more or less how I organize my porn stash.

I have spent a significant amount of time organizing my collection. Basically it is split into two groups. The model group and the porn group. The porn group is stuff from Brazzers, Reality Kings or Twistys and is organized using the pornganizer software. The model group is stuff from PlayBoy, Alluring Vixens or Photodromn and is organized by models name with a photo on each folder.

I have noticed that the organizing part has become increasingly fun and I look forward to spending several hours everyweekend organizing everything. Just when I am close to be being completely done I subscribe to a new website and download a ton of new content to be organized.

I nearly do exactly what iknowwazzup does these days, still heaps to sort out which does need doing I know but lots of it gets labelled when I download with site and model and description then when I watch through them I'll see if its 'awesome', 'good' or average (don't label these though), I make 'awesome' directory for a niche like lesbian and good directory and all the others I see which are average like you just get deleted, I figure I'll never have the time to watch these movies again and they don't do much for me to make me want to so hard as it is as I've paid for them I'll simply say goodbye as they go off to the recycle bin. Then when I do look at my porn I have all my faves there in ranking directories. I've even recently started putting some of my alltime favs from the 'awesome' directory into a 'beyond words' directory.

I also have built up a folder of photos with random photos, just love my photos too these days and really appreciate photos much more, not really porn hardcore pics mainly arty nudes and naked fashion models and public nudity stuff which I love.
