So how big is yours? I got a massive...

..sized porn collection, what else did you think I was talking about? For real, I just added up all the GB I have in porn and I'm kind of ashamed of myself. I have 326.8GB in pictures and 823.3GB in videos. Holy shitters, over a TB of porn, how much is enough?

Compared to buying DVDs and magazines I'd say I have a $100,000 porn collection and only paid a fraction of that price, I added up all my pay site memberships and they only totaled $498.68. I love the internet 6 pack bitches, deal with it

You should read up on PU'er badandy400--you don't begin to understand "massive" until you read up on the size of his collection, and number of hard drives (here's his setup from early 2008, just to give you an idea). Or just read his interview from 2009, he's done a lotta collecting! Toadsith didn't call his collection "the one man Library of Congress for porn" for nothing.

Still, it's always impressive (or disturbing) to surpass the TB mark. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hardcore Commie works." - Gen. Jack D. Before my motherboard died early last month, I had about 20 TB between internal and external drives. If all goes well over the weekend, most of that will be internal as I'm finally putting a new PC together.

RB, is that what your avatar is doing, holding up four fingers (two for each hand) in a sign of hope?

I always thought you were holding up two Fuck You fingers, one for each hand.

But if you are really holding up two fingers in each hand for a sign of hope, then you are a benison to the world, spreading a message of love and peace.

God bless you, RB.

this may sound shocking, sad or disturbing...but I'm comfortable with it. I feel like I am a moderate porn user.

I have downloaded 845GB since October 2010...yep, in 3 months.

I have (full) approx:

400 DVDs, 4GB each = 1.6TB

800 CDs (650MB) = 0.6TB
(from first internet activity),

5 EXT HDD (2TB) = 10TB

17 INT HDD (Average: 80GB to 1TB) = 7TB

All are used for storing my porn collection over approx 10 years of on / off activity...

None of it is catalogued....crying tears...

Anyway, I think in total I have approx 19.2TBs, mostly Video, approx 16000, and over 7 million in photos

Confession of a non practicing catholic...

but a happy one, married and with strong forearms! Beautiful Girls Covered in Pearls and No Oysters in Sight Edited on Dec 28, 2010, 04:19pm (JBDICK: corrected my sums after using the calculator)

You always thought right - 'til your vision blurred and you thought you saw more than two fingers. Make no mistake - that's both hands flipping the bird. Because it's both hands, it's known as, among other things, the double barrel salute, the double deuce or the dirty double. A brief history of it's use and effects in some legal systems can be seen here.

Oh - and getting back to my getting my computer together over the last weekend, that was a bust. So now the crossed fingers goes to:

I figured that this thread would be a good reason to add things up. I have nine WD passport drives ranging in size from 120GB to 1TB. Adding them all together I come up with about 4.2TB. That's 95% video and 5% pics. I could cheat and add in my backups and say i have 8.4TB, but that would be cheating...

I have approx. 2 TB stored in three externals. None in my computer. The collection consists of 80% video and 20% pictures (guessing).

I'm still a newbie in the world of hard drive storage. I have a 500G internal drive plus a 500G external drive. I've got to buy a new external drive because I'm fast running out of space. My big problem is that I want to clean some files out of my drives because I know that I have duplicates and I think that I've got duplicates of my duplicates and that's getting ridiculous. Long live the Brown Coats.

Clonespy
A great duplicate file finder, with the ability to apply masks to limit your searches to specific file types.

I've lost track of how much drive space that app has saved me over the years.

Not a problem at all with Clonespy. It compares checksums, so how a file is named is inconsequential. You can scan across multiple drives, too. Sarcasm is a body's natural defense against stupidity. Edited on Dec 29, 2010, 06:53pm

I am having the same problem, Pat. I promise myself every day that I'll get on with the cleaning up of the mess distributed haphazardly over three drives but somehow manage to convince myself that it would be better if I spend my time hunting for new stuff instead.

I am not going to go through and count everything for an exact number, but suffice it to say my collection is larger than all of the previous quoted collections...combined!

At last count my hard drive capacity was topping 90 TB. This does not included 3,000 DVDs.

Thank you for the recognition turboshaft!

Thanks for that valuable tip, RB. I don't understand the checksum business though. Will Clonespy make that clear to a dummy?

You're very welcome! And you really don't have to know what a checksum is. In simple terms, it's used to determine the integrity of a file by calculating the amount of data in it. Clonespy just compares all the data in each of the files you scan and, coming up with a match, allows you to check which one(s) you want to delete.

From the Clonespy site:

CloneSpy comes with a HTML help file. Just press F1 after starting the program to view it. Please read the help file before using CloneSpy. Otherwise you might easily kill your system.

Don't let the warning of it killing your system scare you away. By default, it's set up to ignore system files like drivers and exe files. The only way you could kill your system is to first, specify a scan of a folder with critical files and then, change what they call a mask that overrides the program's ignoring said critical files. As long as you're scanning folders or drives that only contain media you've downloaded, the worst thing that could happen is marking both files in a match for deletion. It's a simple matter to make sure you only click on one file in each match.

I would recommend reading the help files and figure out how to set masks for only the file types you want to scan for. As examples, I have a mask that scans only for mp3 and wav files when scanning for audio files, and avi, asf, asx, avi, mp4, mpg, mpeg, divx, mov, rm, and wmv file types for video.

It's also easiest to set the program to display all the files in a list when the scan is done. Otherwise you have to pay attention to it while it runs because it will put up matches as it finds them. If you set it to display a list at the end of the scan, you can do something else and just come back to a list where you can check off the files you don't want and delete them all at once.

Thanks again, RB, for your detailed guidance. It's a good thing you mentioned that warning re. the program killing my system. If I had seen that without advance warning it would have been the first and last time I used Clonespy!

Hi pat362

I'm currently processing my back catalogue, moving from DVD (except those that are DVD format), CD, old HDD drives to External USBs. If it helps I've been using the following and they are really reliable and fast.

Seagate 1TB External USB HDD (sits flat, okay)
Seagate 2TB External USB HDD GoFlex (in stand, better)

I'd recommend these.

I forgot, regarding my post above, I also have 600GB on DDS DAT Tape (these are not backups, additional material) Beautiful Girls Covered in Pearls and No Oysters in Sight

Thanks. Best Buy and Futureshop both have Seagate 1TB external hard drives for about 120$. I'm going to make a trip to one of these very soon. Long live the Brown Coats.

A GREAT site to buy external HDs from is Walmart.com, I got a 1 TB Western Digital for 30 bucks, no shit! Hands down, Walmart.com has the lowest prices for external HDs, no matter the brand name. I purchased two of the western digitals from Walmart.com and they're reliable, I have a 500 GB one (for 2 years now) and had no problems what-so-ever, and none yet with my TB one. Right now the 1 TB HDs are going for about 80 bucks at Walmart.com (they have FREQUENT sales, that's why mine was practically free) which is a hell of a lot cheaper than Best Buy or anywhere else. Plus you can have it shipped to your local Walmart for FREE - all you have to do is pick it up at the customer service desk; of course the in store pickup only applies to US residents, maybe Canadian ones as well pat362- not sure if they have walmarts in Canada and I'm too stoned and lazy to google it to find out if they do 6 pack bitches, deal with it Edited on Jan 01, 2011, 02:04pm

As an IT guy, with sys admin among one of my roles, I'll chime in as the voice of reason and mention the subject of backup.

Granted, your smut collection isn't your company accounts, or customer database... but for some folk, it's still something that you've spent considerable time and money putting together!

Hard disks can, and do, die suddenly and completely; spend a moment to think about what that would mean. If it's easily replaced, then no problem; if it would be a major PITA, it's worth having a backup. As Thedebilman666 said, disks are really cheap now!

Sorry for being such a bore! I'm just a bit of a backup fiend :D
