My rig is a little lack-luster by today's standards. It is one of those bare-bone's Shuttles built-up by a coworker - though I tossed a second hard drive in it for porn.

So, full specs:

Shuttle XPC SN27P2 Bare Bones Case

AMD 4000+ Athlon X2 AM2 Processor

2GB Corsair PC6400 DDR2 Pro System Memory

Samsung DVDR Burner Drive

EVGA KO GeForce 7900GT OC'ed Video Card

Sound Blaster XtremeGamer X-Fi Sound Card

Western Digital 250GB SATA II Drive

Samsung 200GB SATA II Drive

I actually had to get the side panels ripped out with a metal nibbler and replaced with "modders mesh" (so things wouldn't fall into the computer) because these damn Shuttles pack in the heat so well that my video card was over heating all the time. Years ago, when I first ran across a Shuttle at my job, I swore I'd never buy one. The reason? I killed two of them in two weeks, using nothing more than Photoshop. Grrrr!

So, fast forward 3 years, and what do you see me doing? Buying a shuttle, granted if you priced out the parts it was worth $1200 at the time and I picked up for $800... still shouldn't have done it though.

Oh and you asked about the monitor as well - I've got a slightly older gaming Viewsonic VX924 19" LCD designed for gaming - 3ms refresh and all that. I'll be getting a widescreen LCD one of these days as well - soon as I can afford it. Yeah, this rig was built for gaming, but it just doesn't really cut it anymore... I'm hoping I can at least get Assassin's Creed to run on it before I have to upgrade.

Ah yes, and lastly the ISP: Standard Roadrunner - usually it tests at around 8000 or 9000 KB/s - for porn sites, the best downloads I usually see are 1.5 MB/s. 800 KB/s is more common. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

My PC is fairly old; 2,5 years, but I'm saving for a new one.
My connection speed is pretty fast though. I have 20Mb connection so in theory I can download with 2,5 MB a second but usually it's around 700kb which ofcourse depends on the site.
I use an external harddrive to download my movies to. I'm always afraid that if my PC breaks down, some repairguy sees all the smut on there and looks weird to me when I pick up my PC.

I have three that are used. One is a laptop, nothing fancy. I upgraded the hard drive to a 120 GB Seagate and the ram to 1 gig. Only use it for downloading away from home. :)

My hard drive set up if fairly dynamic, but I have two machines each used a little differently. Old one for downloading and storage, new one for HD video processing.

My older machine, and most used, is about 4 years old now. Started off with:
Gigabyte motherboard, AMD 3200+, 512 MB dual channel Corsair 3200, Raidon 9800 Pro, and a 160 GB HDD.
Now it has 2 GB dual channel Corsair and and many HDD

20.1 Dell monitor back when they were $1000.

New machine is AMD 6000+, Gigabyte Motherboard, Intensity Pro HD capture card, 250 GB SATA HDD, 8 GB Corsair 6400 ram, 8600 video, Antec 900 case. Think that is all.

The video capture card makes wonderful HD videos, up to 1080i from any HD source. This eats up space quick so I have to trans code and compress for DVD fit. Recording 720p and precompressed still uses about 700 MB per minute! Dont as about uncompressed 1080, this requires a 4 disk RAID set and I am too lazy to set it up!! :)

Now for the Hard Drives :)

4x 4 port SATA RAID controllers, plus 2 and 6 on board and the IDE ports too, up to 12 I believe
1x160 GB
1x250 GB
1x120 GB
1x300 GB
2x400 GB
6x320 GB
10x500 GB
3x750 GB
1x1000 GB
For at total of 11,800 GB or 11.8 TB whichever you like better. Me love to brag about that, I also was the first kid on the block to break the 1 TB mark...but I am glad HDD prices are still dropping, although still an expensive hobby.

I have a 3 MBit connection at home and can get on a 100 MBit unrestricted. But I am still mad at you bastards with 20 MBit at home!!! Oh...I have another 750 GB WD drive on the way. Well most of the drives are in external enclosures with external power sources, but connect directly with SATA. So they spend most of the time off even though their host computer runs 24/7. The noise really is not bad, hell they are all in my bedroom. They do make the room warm at times though. All of those drives running with my older system is not as noisy as the case fans for my HD system even with the fans on low speed. The only problem with my setup is it is still a bit messy. I have cleaned it up a bit but it still needs a little work.

I pride my self when people say "holy shit" when I tell them how much I have for storage. 13 TB tends to turn heads.

Does anyone else have a good sized collection? I would love to hear how some of you guys are storing your precious downloads. Maybe I could get an idea from someone. Wow...am I jealous. All I have is the original 13G HD (which was a big deal when I bought it), plus a 40G internal just added on. It's used up already. I have a 120G external to add on, but the pc can't handle it.

Time to upgrade your PC shooterbo. The HD stuff these days is truly stunning, but is also huge. I agree that I never thought I could fill up my 10 Gig hard drive, but I decided 3 years ago that I had no choice.

I now have an 80 Gig XP machine with a 500 Gig external and am running out of space as we speak.

Been a while, so lets update my count here...I added 2 500s and 4 750s.

1x160 GB
1x250 GB
1x120 GB
1x300 GB
2x400 GB
6x320 GB
12x500 GB
7x750 GB
1x1000 GB

So, new totals are 32 drives and 15.8 TB.
Granted it is not all full, I was running very low on space so I had to buy 2 more 750s that got here a few days ago. A good portion is used for porn downloaded though, not exactly sure how much at this point though. To keep track of what is using how much of my hard drive space, I rely heavily on a lovely little program called "Scanner". It is freeware and developed by a chap from Germany:

http://www.steffengerlach.de/freeware/

The little bugger makes interactive pie charts of your hard drives - you can have it show you all the drives together, or look at individual drives, individual folders and so on. It will even let you delete files or open directories directly. It isn't something I use daily, but I keep it on the desktop (it can run as single, solitary executable file) and scan the drives when I seem to be running low on space (damn those temp folders!) or if I want to just check and see how much porn is in the archive at the present time (274 GB? lovely). I think I would go so far as to call this program exceptionally nifty. "I'm not a number, I'm a free man!"

I have two 1000GB drives, but I only use one of them. The first one is backed up onto the second one once a week to help protect against data loss.

More importantly, though, what I really use is a single 700GB truecrypt file. Truecrypt ( http://www.truecrypt.org/ ) if you're not familiar with it is a big encrypted file that you can then mount as a drive. When it's not mounted, no one (and I mean no one, the encryption is really strong) is getting in there. If anyone else uses your computer, I think it's pretty key to use something like TC to keep people from stumbling on your stash.

Thanks a million Toadsith. I d/l that sweet little program and it is outstanding. You MUST be careful when cleaning up dupes and crap because it's very easy to identify and blow good stuff off if you're not careful.

Another sweet freebie that I really like is a directory printer. It will print out a selected directory in a simple *.txt format that can easily be imported into an Excel spreadsheet. With this program I'm able to print out a hard copy listing of all my stash on each hard drive. (It takes some work to learn how to select the many options, but there's a nice help menu that will take you through the drill.)

Here's a link (courtesy of PC World):

Karen's Directory Printer
Version: 5.2.0.6
File Size: 1291k
License Type: Free
Operating Systems: Windows XP

Want to print a list of all your files or folders? I use the free Karen's Directory Printer. It generates folder and sub-folder listings in every way imaginable, including (or excluding) file size, creation date, and attributes.

Got my current PC 2.5 years ago, 2.1Ghz dual processor (quite the norm anymore), 1 GB RAM, don't know how much video RAM but it's worked fine even with HD vids.

Have 820GB of HD space (max-nominally), spread out over a 500GB WD Drive, the 160GB internal drive, and an old 160GB external that's still FAT32 (used to swap files off a Mac and have never reformatted it). Over those drives, there's about 350GB of "available" space left, and there'd be an additional 120 if I took out all of the "redundant" files, mostly of pics.

I don't like getting over 75% of capacity with any one of them due to the slowness and the wear and tear.

Have had some disk failures in the past that weren't fun to deal with, so I also have stacks and sleeve books of CD's with just about all of the porn I've ever collected. There's more on those, especially of videos, that aren't on the HD's.

Hope I'll never need to reach for the CD's again, but a few years ago a 40GB suffered a craptacular demise during a power outage/restoration, so I was glad I'd burned the CD's up to that time. (Haven't bought a Maxtor since, and it might not have been their fault but that's my reaction to porn-crisis trauma.)

I've kept separate stores of pic and vid CD's, and I label and annotate (in a database file) all of the vid CD's so I at least know where to find things, such as Lela Starr getting a nice tiger futt on some crisp whites. So the HD's are a temporary display space for vids (except for the absolute table tossers). The pics I prize more and have redundant copies of, more or less, depending, of course. (Can't explain it any better than cheese on a tuna sandwich.)

The ISP is max-nominally at 20Mbsp, which is very nice! (I was just swapping dial-up memories with Monahan today.) It's like going from oxen to 12-cylinder Ferrari. (Unless the site's running legacy-grade.) I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. Edited on Jun 23, 2008, 08:46pm

Sounds like you have a fair amount of goodies there ByteMaster. Why are you downgrading your internet, how much does it cost? Hi badandy400, lots of goodies :) mainly for software development and porn Porn PORN.

The 20meg broadband costs me £37 (GBP) a month, I think its the only UK company (virgin media) to offer that speed, so they have the market and set the price.

I will try and get a better deal first before I actaully downgrade to 4meg. They should offer me a better deal cause Ive been with them a long time (telephone and BB).

The problem with 20meg is I never get it from a single site, you can only download as fast as the other site allows. I have to download from 6 or 7 sites at once to get the top whack 20meg speed.

ALso, due to the recent price increases and geo pricing Ive decided to calm down a bit on the spending.

But, I suppose alot of people are counting pennies at the moment :(

I've hinted at, in other threads, my absolute hatred for Microsoft. They are a significant factor in the high cost of computing. I'll give you a brief rundown of my system, and I'll tell a bit about the cost, and how I kept things rather cheap.

I run a Pentium D, dual 3.0 GHz processors, with 2 Gb of RAM. 19" LCD monitor, 160 Gb HD and a 1 Tb HD. It does seem rather modest, but it was relatively cheap. The computer itself was $300, with about $40 for the RAM upgrade, $100 for the monitor, $120 for the extra drive.

I simply don't do Windows, and using a 64-bit Linux kernel, I get performance that far "superior" machines cannot get with Windows. I have never used more than 750 Mb of RAM for anything, so the memory upgrade wasn't needed - Linux is far more conservative with memory that way. My operating system was free. I didn't have to buy or download anything to combat viruses or spyware. I didn't have to buy DVD authoring software, or any software whatsoever. I can watch any movie out there and I can convert it to a DVD to play on any DVD player with a great deal of ease and speed. And, I don't have a bunch of crap running in the background hogging processing resources or memory.

Even with my old Pentium III 500, I was getting far superior performance on Linux than my friend was on his P4 2.6 GHz on Windows. To run the latest Windows operating system, you need a rather high end system. To run the latest Linux distros, you can use a Pentium II, if you're so inclined.

Hi jr2375, I ment price increase of porn websites, not the cost of Windows :)

Anyways, I've been programming for a long time, first under MS-DOS (that makes me feel old), then the early versions of Windows. Two years ago I had a major hardware failure on my old computer (dead motherboard). The only functioning computer I had left was an old dusty pentium machine (it might have even been a 486) with a 500MB drive that I kept in the loft, but no OS software, I did have a copy of 'Tiny Linux' ? on CD, booted up direct from CD, it even had an early version of firefox. I used that old computer with Tiny Linux to order parts for a new computer (which is now my old computer).

Linux saved my bacon that day and I was very impressed.

Once I had built it I did try installing a proper version of Linux (Ubuntu?), it looks good, but I could'nt get into it.

I know you meant the price of websites, not the cost of Windows, but what you save on an OS can go into porn, after all. ;-)

Linux is different, and I have spent a lot of time in MS-DOS and other things predating that, even. However different Linux is, I've gotten quite used to it. I get onto a Windows machine these days, and I'm lost. I get rapidly frustrated with the Windows method of adding or updating software, I must say.

This thread has been buried for a while, so I am curious to hear about what some of the newer members have. It seemed appropriate for us to brag about our collections given the current polls about porn addiction. So I will offer a little insight to the degree of my addiction.

This is a current list of my hard drive capacities.

1x250 GB
1x120 GB
1x300 GB
2x400 GB
6x320 GB
12x500 GB
7x750 GB
3x1000 GB
2x1500 GB
Grand total of 20.64 TB

Of course this is not 100% full of porn. I likely have about 16 TB of porn save to hard drive. Plus the 1.5 TB drives are not installed yet, hoping to do that this weekend.

I guess this makes me thoroughly addiction to the collection of porn.

Anyone wondering about the quote I use from Toadsith in my signature, here is a link to how large things are.

http://searchstorage.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid5_gci944596,00.html

As you can see the Library of Congress is quoted as 10 TB. In which case I have beaten them! Besides, my stuff is much more useful than what they like to keep! :) "For example, badandy400 has taken it upon himself to become the one man Library of Congress for porn with a collection that surely will be in Guinness Book of World Records some day." ~Toadsith~

See I have seen several different number, and they tend to vary greatly. I have heard the 10 PB before and I have heard some very small numbers as well. The trouble with this comparison is knowing if they are including video data. The number I read the other day was considering written information only. I read somewhere that they have over half a million videos'

Either way I believe I have plenty to download yet, and I do not intend on quiting any time soon. They just keep making more and they know I have to have it....the bastards.

Anyway, stop bursting my bubble WittyGuy.....I was proud of myself for a moment there.

I still want to here what some more of you guys have set up. I am hoping someone is doing it in a more effect manor than me so i can steel their secrets. I only have three external hard drives -- 500GB x2, and 300GB x1 -- and only one of these is for porn (a nearly full 500 GB drive).

With your setup it sounds like you should have a complex shelf and cooling system built to handle the heat (and I am not talking about "passion" here) of all that wonderful material. Plus, with all that equipment it seems like you really are some sort of double agent organizing all the confiscated obscene material for the government, but your true loyalty is with the porn industry, with whom you share an off-the-books, unspoken professional relationship. Officially you do not exist, but you are legend within the porn world -- viva badandy400! "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? TurboShaft. thanks for the props! It is true. i am working for the Russian and we are getting ready to overwhelm the internet with Russian porn to overload the American network thus putting the States in an network ice age. This is why the US is going all digital. They need to free up that bandwidth in an attempt to hand the extra bandwidth all you guys will use when you realize how much porn there is to be downloaded all for free. :)

WittyGuy. I have seen several states on just the written content of the LC and they all say between 10 and 20 TB. Of course they have video and photo content as well which drastically tips the scales in their favor. So for now I am just going after the written content...gotta keep the goals reasonable.

Porn Ambassador???? Hummm....I kinda like the that. Oh wait you said Ambassador to the Internet.....same thing! If I had internet access like that for a while they can send me to Texas, at least I would be out of the Ohio snow. Tacking on the site membership fees to the bailout, sounds more productive than half the stuff they are going to use that for anyway. :) So does that mean I get your vote?!?!?!

Back to Turboshaft. I am working on a better set up right now. I found these great little 5 driver racks for $20 that will greatly help my storage issues. Right now they sit on a small shelf next to my computer with the wires all hanging out. I switch the second power supply and SATA cables around to get which ever drive I need at the time. I am hoping by the end of next week to have a much better setup for this. It will be much neater and safer for the drives.

I would have done something long ago but needed something that was scalable since I am always adding new drives at a rate of about 1 TB per month.

I guess for now I will have to settle for downloading myself and no government grants. If I were Ambassador to the Internet the first thing I would do is delete all the websites for Rosy O'Donald, Opera, and Elan and all the other man-hating shows. I'm still in the minors compared to most of you.

My main HD is 100gb but that's mainly windows essentials and itunes music. My 2nd drive is 500gb which is mainly for porn or anything else I wanna keep. And then I back it up about once a week with a external 500Ggb HD.

My 2nd drive used to be just a small 40gb and I used it for probably 3-4 years. Not sure how I ever handled that, as since getting the 500gb I've went on a downloading frenzy and have it almost halfway full now.

We all started somewhere. It also depends on how much of the content you see do you actually download and keep. I am an absolute hoarder so I keep everything unless is is truly terrible.

The problem is that it certainly in not free to store that much information. It always irritates me, slightly, when I think that a year ago I was happy paying $140 for a single 500 GB drive, and now I will not pay more than $130 for a 1.5 TB drive. I don't want to start a new thread for something as inconsequential as this so I thought I'd ask here. In the past I have not stored anything and have just kept porn or music files on my computer. Then I get wiped out with a virus and lose everything and have to start over again. Usually I cut music cd's but do not save porn this way.

What I would like to do is download data to dvd or cut dvd's as backup discs. I have not done this before. Can anyone tell me what the best software is (that is hopefully simple) that will allow me to cut data to dvd? My computer is an 18 months old Dell with XP. I have been looking at AOA DVD Ripper, Easy DVD Ripper and Converter, and Cucusoft Videos to DVD Converter.

I am really new to doing this sort of thing as I have just cut cd's before, but all the files I don't backup get wiped out when I get a virus. Hope someone can help.

TheSquirrel, while this isn't really an answer to your direct question, you might consider just getting an external hard drive. The prices these days are quite reasonable and it's a bit easier than going the route of burning DVD's. You just plug them into any USB port and then save your stash just as you would on your regular hard drive.

Just a thought. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Wow - thanks for the quick reply. The external drive was something I was considering - but presumably I would have to keep it disconnected from the computer most of the time, because I was thinking if the computer gets the virus it would spread to the external drive. I am not too tech minded, a real beginner with this sort of thing.

Yes, if you want to be extra careful then by all means, keep the external drive disconnected except when you're transferring files.

But even with that, if you used a local directory (on your regular computer) and then copied/moved that to the external once a week, it'd still be much easier (imo) than burning DVD's.

But hey, that's just me. I'm sure some other's will offer their 2¢ as well. Former PornUsers Senior Administrator

Thanks for the suggestion Khan. I think that I will go with the external drive as this may be even better than the dvd cutting idea. Should have got it set up before I got wiped out recently, by the worm that is supposed to have wiped out 9 million computers. It's frightening to even visit some sites now.

Go with a hard drive. Obviously I would say that, hell look at my avatar! It is faster, easier, can be rewritten, and more reliable. You can have your computer periodically synchronize the folders for you so all you have to do is push "GO" and anything that is not backed up will be automatically.

Hard drive cost more than dvds per GB but are so much more practical. Also, I would consider taking your "gem" files and putting them on dvd as well as the external hard drive just to be extra sure that you absolute must have, willing to die for, favorites are safe. But an entire collection would be a little less practical, especially if it is decent sized. Of course if it is absolutely huge dvd might become for appealing because they are cheaper. Can get a TB HHD for $100 but can get a TB worth of dvds for about $45 off Newegg with free shipping.

If you choose to go with the hard drive route ebay usually has some of the best deals on hard drive. You will have to decide if you want the drive internal or external though. External is nice because you can take it with you. I have about 20 external SATA enclosures I am looking to sell dirt cheap, send me an email of you are interested (sorry if that broke any rule). Your second option is to have the drive internal, which is nice because it takes up no extra space. All you have to do here it remove the power cable when you do not want to use it. You can leave the data cable inserted. Only real issue is how easy is it for you to get into your case, but if it is only once every few weeks it is a valid option and it is free. TalonIcefire...damn dude!!!! You could have bought a lot of porn for that! You need to get your priorities straight!

Seriously though, I am jealous. That puts you at about 10 TB of storage between the two systems. That probably ran you $1500 right there at current prices. I hope it is all full of good porn. :)

I want to know what the PU Staff has. I figure it is either a Pentium 133 with 32 MB of RAM and 2.5 GB HHD....or they have some $500,000 server and quietly laugh at me when I childishly brag about by now 22.1 TB. EBay can be a good source but try IOMEGA.com. They have occasional deals on refurbs (with warranties). Just got an email from them for a $49.99 360Gb harddrive.

If you use eBay, read the descriptors very carefully and set a maximum price you're willing to pay before you start looking. There are some great deals, but there are some lousy no-name drives as well. One I bought worked for about a week then died. The seller was nonresponsive.

That sucks Monahan.

As a rule of thumb currently do not pay much more than 10 cents per gig, 11 cents is getting high, and 12 is just robbery. I was paying $65 for 320 GB drives about 2 years ago, not I am twice as much for a drive that is five times the size. Larger drives nearly always yield lower costs per GB.

Currently the best deals are on the Seagate 1.5 TB drives which can be found with free shipping on ebay and wmave.com and surely other places. The 750 GB drives are being seen in the $80 range now. These are from Seagate and Western Digital so you get at least a 3 year warranty. There is nothing wrong with refub drives, but they typically have no more than a 1 year warranty and most have only a month or so. Although there have been great advances in bearings and other mechanisms, hard drives still contain moving parts which are susceptible to fatigue and other forms of mechanical failure as well as controller issues. Basically, it is not IF a drive fails it is WHEN. So a longer warranty is always desirable, but a well built drive should go well beyond the warranty.

I had a 500 GB Seagate pair about 8 months ago that when I first plugged them in one sounded literally like a steel ball dropping and steel bench. I bought the pair off ebay, but sent the drive to Seagate. It cost just as much to send it to them as it would to the seller. Seagate in return sent me my first 750 GB in return. While even a 10 day warranty would have covered that, it is nice to know that even in 4 years from now the those drives would still be replaced at only the cost of UPSing the drive to them. BadAndy400, as a matter of fact, I have over 6 TB of porn. Although my taste has opened up some, I still find most of the stuff on the net just way outside the "normal". Furthermore, I have almost 2TB of music.
The Squirrel, an additional note, I cannot recall the name of the viruses this time, however there are some that are specifically tailored to USB ports. They generally stay hidden until you connect a USB to your computer. DoD an government organizations just recently banned all personal thumb drives and portable hard drives because of this. I use my laptop just now.
Have a 1.6 Ghz HP Centrino Duo
Vista
256 MB dedicated graphics card
Additional 19 inch monitor for dual screening.
16 Mb broadband but I only get around 8 Mb
80 GB internal hard drive of which 30 GB is for Linux and as I only have 20 GB free I download till I hit 10 GB left then backup and delete.
250 GB external hard drive for TV series, movies etc
1 TB external hard drive for porn (sitting around 500 GB just now)

I used to burn everything to DVD however this has stopped as
1/ It take far to long.
2/ DVD's are NOT that reliable
(Some of my dvd's have been stored well, read only once or twice and yet 3 years later barely work...admittly there are some that still do after 5 years and many uses but theres always that worry)

Nice one, I wish we could get fast broadband connections. i live in a smallish town in england and its still very slow really max I get is 4MB and average speeds would say 350kb sometime it goes down to 60kb though which is far too slow.

My rig up is 4 year old pc, not bad spec though, runs fairly fast 3MB memory dual core Athlon 3800+ processor. Nvidea Geforce 7600 GT Graphics card and Creative Audigy soundcard. 24" Benq monitor which I love for the videos.

I store on fav vids are backed up to 150 external then vids are on extra from my normal hard disk cause thats only a 250GB samsung barracuda sata 750GB internal and 750gb western digital external. Ones for my fav girls the internal drive and the other is for other movies really, leaves me plenty of space to build which I like. Thanks for all the information and help guys. The more I look into it the more I know I have to get an external drive. I didn't realise how susceptible those hard drives were to breaking down or going wrong. There is no perfect solution I guess. Maybe get two external drives and also some dvd's for backing up the really valuable files as Andy suggested. I have to continue to drag myself into the 21st century. The technology is out there. Better get used to using some of it.

Squirrel. I do not want to scare people away from using them, I just want people to be aware that they will fail at some point in time. Most of them out life their practical life span. How many of those old 2 GB hard drive from 10-15 years ago do people keep around? It very well may be that by the time our new drives are being considered "old" that we will not even need them anymore because there will be petabyte or larger drive drive at the same price we pay for a 80 GB now.

Elephant, I feel your pain! 3 MBit is the fastest that is offered where I live. They can get 4.5 Mbit out here, but the next tier is 5 MBit and they will not allow me to go part way in between. Otherwise my connection could be 50% faster. So until they beef up the lines a little I am stuck at 3. Certainly beats the hell out of dial up though! The likely future hard drive will be solid state (like super huge flash drives). Right now a 250Gb solid state hard drive goes for $400. But it's faster and more stable than today's hard drives.

But at $1.60 per Gb it's a bit too steep for me right now.

That is a somewhat annoying precess. There are programs that will automatically backup files for you and all you have to do is put in the blank dvds. They will even cut a large file into two pieces and place the parts on two different dvd to make sure each dvd is actually being filed. The problem thee is that you need to know the order of the dvds to get both pieces. So I guess hard drives are still the ideal way.

I can not wait for solid state drives to explode in size and come down to affordable prices. Obviously I am not going to pay $1.60 per GB just to store videos and such when I can do it for $0.09 per GB with normal hard drives, and even less on dvd.
