Amazing, I never knew that this could be done. Seeing that I'll never have two monitors can you or someone else explain to me how you can "freeze" a data entry page on one monitor while you switch to use the other?

I don't think you're nuts, but why two monitors? I have a graphics card that would allow me to do that but what would be a practical example of the benefit of using two monitors?
Thanks.

But, how about having other drawings during the week? Maybe not for cash but for something else? Free memberships, discounts, gear, etc.?

In reality it's hard so say how to get more people to join without some more active web advertising. For me, it took almost a year to join from the time I became aware of the site. I didn't join right away because I wasn't aware of the drawings and I didn't feel compelled to voice off until I got ripped off by a site (from a lot of the low scores that the newbies initially post, I would say this is a common theme).

The forum is a big plus for me but overall I think most people, like I was for a long time, are happy just being anonymous consumer rather than active posters.

One thing that creeps to mind is to offer special discounts or additional discounts to sites for PU members. I think might be a hard one to sell. Another way to generate more site traffic, and possibly more members would be to list the PU site as a separate listing under "other great sites" on TBP home page and links page.

I fervently agree with the idea of having draws for subscriptions! My experiences with winning the Raffle have not been all that positive, but through no fault of TBP. My own ignorance (I redeemed the gift certificates, not knowing what that implied) and Amazon.com's legal restrictions when it comes to exporting electronic stuff like external hard drives to Canada. Yeah, a subscription would be great!

I think another way of attracting new subscribers would be for TBP to get in touch with the webmasters of the generally best-regarded and highly rated sites and have them use the gushing comments of a new user to suggest that they go to PU and repeat them there in a comment that has wider distribution than an email to a webmaster.

It would be above board, no shilling if a new user expressed his appreciation of a site on that site first, and then did it more widely in Porn Users. And after he had joined he would see what a fun site (the forum) as well as valuable resource (the reviews and comments) TBP/PU is.

Anything not kosher about this approach to recruiting that I don't see at the moment? Unless, of course, the new member were somehow to be rewarded by the site he praises in PU .. then it would be dishonest and could be considered shilling. Just a passing thought, most likely not very well thought out.

RB, I could never see the advantage of a swivel type monitor just so I could see portrait type pictures the way they were meant to be seen because, come the next landscape, I have to swivel again, as well as go to my graphics card to tell it to display in landscape .. and then switch back again to portrait using the same procedure. Unless I'm dead wrong about the way things are done. Maybe those swivel monitors act like an iPhone and adjust automatically? Do you have any idea if they do? In any case I still feel every picture should be landscape even though the model might not necessarily be in a prone position. But that's me! :-)

I guess I haven't kept up with the latest when it comes to monitors, colm4. And I have a 21.5 wide screen monitor and it isn't huge at all that's exactly why I would advise to stick with a 19" one because vertically there's not enough difference to make it worth the expense if one wants to look at portrait style pictures.

I looked in the forum history and it's been awhile since people were yakking about equipment. I've got a nice 19" Dell CRT, which looks nice, but I'm wondering if I'm missing some real oomph factor when I look at pics on sites such as Babelicious.com, ALS Scan, Met Art and such.

I usually look at pics with either Irfanview or Compupic once I've downloaded a set and as long as most are in portrait format I can't see where there would be much of a difference between your 19" and my 21.5" monitor because with the better (larger) pictures you have to reduce them anyway in order to fit your screen. Or scroll, in which case the difference would really be minimal because there's not that much difference in height between a 19" and mine.
Plus .. I've heard that CRTs do give a better picture, so save the money for some good subscriptions! :-)

Strange that Squirrel should bring up the subject just now because I was just about to start a similar thread after reading some of the latest practically useless reviews of some of the sites. Where are all the wise PU members of yore who would point out gently to a newcomer that their review was far from adequate. A few of you did it to me when I first tried my hand at writing one! :-)

I was personally set off by the latest two reviews of "Girls Out West" where the reviewers gave an unrealistically low score because they didn't grasp what the site was all about, as well as providing next to no details. I won't give a "no trust" in connection with this, after all we were all newbies at one time but, to repeat myself, I do wish that more of our users would leave a gentle reply pointing out the deficiencies of a given review.

One other point, some do go by the total points given to a site to help them make up their mind on whether to subscribe or not and all those reviews that are really nothing but comments in disguise help drag down the score and might just discourage them to take a closer look.

Who knows, maybe your idea, squirrel, putting the best reviews (not by score but by details given) on top might not be a bad one. That would really encourage newbies to get their critical juices flowing.

Most of the stuff on my built-in hard drive is HD clips from ITC so it wouldn't take THAT long to go through them all.

My external hard drive is a different matter because it contains mainly picture sets and there I will have plenty to do, either by looking and deleting or deciding to keep, or by pruning some of the overly long sets. It will be fun.

Is there a way to transfer gift certificates from Amazon.com to Amazon.ca? I tried to cash in my winnings by ordering a new external drive from Amazon.com but kept getting the message: no deliveries to your area (NS Canada), at least not under that category. I can't find a way to get in touch with Amazon directly and was wondering if anyone who has been a winner and who does not live within the borders of the U.S. has found anything that can and will be delivered to another country?

Sigh! I was afraid of that. That would be a real pain in the butt. With the average set you'd be forever telling your video card to switch any time you came across a landscape type picture. That would be even worse than a reduced, letter boxed "portrait" picture on a wide screen.

I'll grant you that platform heels have some models obviously teetering on the edge of their balance, but that is more a comment on the model's lack of experience rather than the footwear. I personally am usually not a fan of the ever present platform heels because they consume so much space visually - they don't accent the leg rather than dominate it. Stilettos I do like though as they can be rather elegant and graceful in design acting as an accessory like well placed earrings, bracelets and so on. The advantage of Stilettos in my opinion is they can keep the models legs looking good in nearly any pose.

If I hadn't been so tired yesterday that's exactly what I would have written, except less eloquently. :-)

Someone suggested that to me some time ago because I hate portrait style pictures and would like to see everything in landscape. My present monitor doesn't allow me to do this. I envy you because a monitor that can be flipped would be perfect for me, this way I could tolerate "portrait."

What happens if you swivel to "landscape", is there an automatic adjustment or do you have to adjust each picture manually? Probably a dumb question!

As far as I am concerned a site can be 99% non-nude and still be very exciting and erotic but there has to be that one percent of complete nudity or I feel cheated. Teasing is fine as long as it leads to a climax of some sort.

Supersize me, just in case! I don't need the largest pictures right now but might if I want to keep them and look at them in the future on a bigger monitor or on TV.

I had so many sets I had saved that were in 800x600 and even smaller and had to throw many of them away because they didn't look great on my new 22" (actually 21.5") monitor.

I let all of my sites expire as well and will not subscribe to any new ones until my currency starts to climb back up to where it was five months ago, equivalent or close to the value of the US Dollar. Everything got 15-20 percent more expensive for me when I make a purchase in the US, and most porn sites are located there. European sites have always been way more expensive than I was prepared to pay, so that leaves out that option.

Just like so many others I have tons of material from previous subscriptions I haven't even looked at so I won't have to do without my daily fix. I won't be doing any reviews for a while, though, which is something I love doing! :-(

THE thing that kills pics for me, more than any other element, is excessive pic treatment - you can have the best model in the hottest outfit in the coolest location and then photoshop the shit out of it and make it so that there's no skin definition or anything else that makes humans hot and they've just wasted a bunch of money and time as far as I'm concerned, because in the end, what they've produced is crap, as far as I'm concerned.

I agree with everything you write. And I have been making noise in a couple of reviews and comments. See Twisty's and ATK Galleria. All the individuality has been photoshopped out of the models. Yet most PUs seem to like that type of picture because the keep rating those sites quite highly. There are folks who can't stand any sort of imperfection.

Great, a resurrected thread! It was really nice reading all the replies again. I had forgotten that I participated in this thread.

Just wanted to add this: How many prefer books to their movie version? How many times have you been disappointed because you went to see a movie that had been made of a real good book and then left the theater disappointed? Videos leave nothing to the imagination, you're stuck with someone else's taste and what he considers sexy.

There's also this, as www put it above: "I don't know, but watching people fuck is boring to me. It was fascinating to me when I was younger, but it bores me to tears nowadays."

I agree with www and that's why I prefer pictures, preferably solo with a slow teasing strip. My imagination supplies the rest. I do have videos in my collection but they have to be exceptional for me to keep them. Certainly not the mass produced Gonzo style stuff.

Okay, let me ask all those who do NOT use FF: Is there any way of browsing privately without having your browser wipe out your passwords as well?

The way it works with me is like this: I have iGoogle set as my home page, keep all my porn sites under the iGoogle bookmarks and keep iGoogle itself inaccessible to others through a master password. This way if others (grandchildren) should use Firefox all they get is the basic iGoogle without all my bookmarks because they would have to sign in first with a password. It doesn't stop them from using my browser and I have the peace of mind of knowing that they won't be able to stray into my areas of interest. :-) Is there any feature in Internet Explorer or Opera that would allow me to duplicate this?

I use Firefox almost exclusively because it gives me the greatest degree of privacy. I can set it to delete all cookies and browsing history and temporary internet files after I close the browser and will still keep my passwords for porn sites which are protected by a master password. IE, in private browsing deletes everything and forces you to use a separate program to remember passwords. Netscape 8 was good for privacy as well, so is Sea Monkey if you've never tried it.

I don't recall one particular scene but I have somewhat of a lingerie fetish and I hate scenes where the model attempts to cater to my tastes by saying: "Oh, I love my panties so much!" Even if they are made of plain cotton she'll be so enraptured and captivated by them that she will keep stroking the material lovingly while moaning over the thrill of it all! Can you imagine any woman saying that about her panties? Can you imagine talking that way about your briefs/boxers?

Or in the case of foot fetishists, how many times have I seen a model suck on her own toes and pretend to get off on it? Would any woman outside of the porn business ever be tempted to do that and enjoy it? Is sucking your own toes turning YOU on? I rest my case! :-)

I think both scenarios are silly, not gross, and remind me too vividly that it's all show meant to lure in lovers of a particular niche and by making it so obvious she will ruin any fantasies I might be inclined to have about her, her panties or her feet! :-)

I think the only series not to have anything to do with the original Star Trek is Voyager. TNG brought McCoy, Spock, and Scotty back. DS9 had the Tribble episode and Enterprise(what a mess) had the alternate Universe episodes.

Boy, talk about false memory (mine). I remember "The Trouble With Tribbles" as being part of the original Star Trek. It was one of my favorite episodes, too!!

Since my soothing remark: "So rejoice, you're normal"(#21 above) was met with the threat of a law suit (below) and since I am not willing to waste years of my life on counter-suits and appeals I hereby retract what I wrote with my sincerest apologies and humbly pronounce you and everyone in this forum perverts par excellence!

One more thing: I don't like the word "pervert" when it comes to human sexuality. We are just now starting to see, because we've become more open about it, how infinitely diverse people's sexual tastes are and as long as they don't stray into illegal (non-consensual) areas then they are not perverts. That's my opinion.

If the majority of males were dead set against porn then yes, they would be perverts by definition (pervert - a person whose behavior deviates from what is acceptable especially in sexual behavior) but I have yet to meet one who doesn't find Porn acceptable, so rejoice, you're normal.

Messmer (realizing that "pervert" is being used tongue-in-cheek in this forum quite frequently)

First time I respond to one of my own posts but looking back over the way this thread mutated into a discussion of domination/submission and my preferences I think rephrasing of the original reply would be better: I like BDSM scenes and videos, assuming they are consensual, but spanking is not a category that would turn me on.

Thanks, guys. I'll have to take some time to digest all of your responses. Still having a hard time with some of the actions required on the various download managers.

Dear pervie Santa, please make the Canadian Dollar worth at least $ 1.50 US. Or make all of the porn sites charge in Canadian Dollars yet keep the price the same. Or give me a huge boost in income. Thank you!

You're right, there were at least 5 different Emmanuelle movies with Sylvia Kristel, as well as a bunch of other Emmanuelle movies with other actresses playing Emmanuelle, as well as different TV series about the Emmanuelle character with other actresses (there was even one series with Emmanuelle in outer space).

But the only two I saw in the movie theater were Emmanuelle I and Emmanuelle II. I've seen some of the other Emmanuelle movies on cable TV, and some episodes of a few of the different Emmanuelle TV series.

But there is a definite difference in the experience when you see a movie in a nice theater, versus watching it on TV. Watching in a theater is more expensive, less convenient, but you appreciate the movie more in spite of that - unless the movie is a clunker, when you think, "What a waste of money."

Emmanuelle I and Emmanuelle II were classics for me. Any other versions I saw were poor to good, but not near the quality of the first two movie versions.

I completely agree with you when it comes to the quality of the post Sylvia Kristel movies. Those outer space efforts especially were pathetic. I never watched one longer than ten minutes without changing channels.

Event though most sites won't permit to use a download manager I never got into trouble doing so. It's only a few sites I was able to download sets (no ZIP sites only) using FlashGot exclusively but those where sites I would never ever recommend!

Hey, Mr. Smut, didn't I confess ignorance when I talked about download managers? Could you give me an example what a "string" is? :-) Thanks.

I just came across a site that forbids the use of download managers and was wondering if the built-in download managers in the various browsers are included. They were also mentioning that queuing is not allowed, but I do that all the time with Firefox and no site has ever complained.

Are they talking about applications that "harvest" everything in site? As to "DownThemAll," I got that plug-in some time ago but never knew how to use it so I un-installed. I would like to know the procedure. How is it normally used in sites that permit it?

I'm embarrassed about admitting ignorance when it comes to download managers but to me it's always been enough to right click, "save as ..," repeat on the next link etc., while Firefox did the rest.

There were also TV series (more than one) for Emanuelle that did not compare to the original movies.

I could have sworn there were more than two Emanuelle movies made with Sylvia Kristel. I remember watching them every Saturday Night for an extended period on one of our French (Quebec) channels who were quite liberal for their times. I had a bit of a problem with the language but understood enough to make the movies enjoyable.

There is a huge difference in quality between the theatrical release I saw and the two DVD versions I bought.

The DVDs of the movie are blurry and washed out. Actually, I have not found a decent DVD copy of that movie, which was a waste of money for me, because if you don't have quality, the value of the movie goes way down.

But in the 1970s, when I saw it in a movie theatre, I did not find the colors washed out or blurry. The style was sort of Penthouse versus Playboy in focus, but the colors were great and the girls were really attractive.

Emanuelle I and II were sharply focused movies (very clear picture). Have not seen any DVDs of them, so don't know how they translated to DVD.

I watched "The Story Of O" on one of our late night digital channels. Their picture is usually very good so they must have broadcast a copy of your DVD! :-) I liked the first Emanuelle pictures too but in the meantime, years later, they have become something barely watchable.

They, too, are found on late night TV and I've learned to skip watching them, along with all those Vivid Productions (I might have the Production Company wrong) featuring the ubiquitous Randy Spears. Terribly boring, the whole bunch of them. Nothing but uninterrupted sex after the first five minutes, if it takes them that long.

What always makes me laugh is the fact that they give you a story line in the TV menu like "frustrated author is trying to cope with writer's block" .. then zoom in on Randy rubbing his head in frustration, then ... seconds later this fake busted blonde babe shows up and takes care of his other frustrations for the rest of the movie! :-)

My mouth waters at the thought of a pristine, digitally remastered, widescreen version of "The Story Of O." Kink.com are making videos based on this story but even though (or is it because) they are more graphic they could never approach the erotic tension of the original.

Hey, I had forgotten about that one. Poor camera work, blurry and washed out picture, very little actual sex, yet it was more erotic and intense, as you put it, than any of the clips found on VideoBox. A point I was trying to make in another thread.

The tushes are still great, WWW, it's just that they were better wrapped before 1980! :-) Man, I hate thongs!

All that technology, and relatively cheap too, compared to years ago. A massive chance for some sensational stuff to be produced and what happens? Yes, a thousand companies all making clips that look like they came from the same three companies, and all seemingly produced either by 15 year old kids who are so amazed by what they are doing, they forget about the people who are actually going to view the things, or get rich quick, get it in the cans as quickly and cheaply as possible producers, who don't give a shit because quantity is better than quality. An opportunity missed by everyone.

I am talking here about run of the mill porn, rather than fetish. Maybe that's the only way this thread can apply here and make any sense anyway. All the opportunities to make great stuff relatively cheaply and break the decades long tradition of highly expensive porn, that is difficult to get hold of, seem to have gone to the wall. So yes, I do know what messmer means. This site may partly help, but where are all the people who want to produce quality porn, professionally, and with some affection and love for the subject?

As I have said before, but it does no harm to state it again for all you youngsters, 30 years ago it would have cost about 60+ just to buy one video with less action than one on any of those DVD download sites. We realise this, but we're not being jaded when we just want to see something that really is a little different. Not upside down sex in a water tank. I just mean something with quality and originality, produced by people who care about the subject, the content, and the paying customers.

What you said!!! Talking about quality, and that comes close to your subject, come to think of it I think Kink.com has some truly original and quality material. I'm not sure if spanking is among their offerings but I saw some of their trailers and wished at the time that I had the money to subscribe to one of their expensive sites.
