I know it's a little early, but to all my fellow American members here at PU, and of course to the great staff, happy Independence Day! As I am sure many of us are aware, the sage old advice of "Be careful where you point that thing," and "It could go off at any second" take on a new, more important meaning when handling fireworks and explosives, so be careful! Maybe take some time and watch a video with an all-American cast, or think of your favorite American model(s)... :) "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Not to burst anyone's 4th of July holiday bubble, but it appears that Carradine didn't kill himself, at least according to this recent New York Times brief. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Lol. Another satisfied Worst Buy customer; I try to not shop there for anything more critical than a cable or blank CDs or DVDs, and even then... Why is it that there is always tons of customer service when you don't need it, and definitely don't want it, but never when you do? And Metallica, well, after watching their "Some Kind of Monster" documentary, I sort of gave up on them, though I still occasionally enjoy their '80s material. I am surprised they would not try and create the highest quality production and try to transfer it to CD as faithfully as possible, especially after their battle against Napster. Another great post, exotics 4me. Love the mention of the iPod and music for comparison.
I definitely agree we live in an age of quantity over quality, which the iPod and its like represent. Its amazing to me just how popular anything portable, like the iPod, has become, even when it is a significant downgrade from its original source, or even CDs. It seems most mp3 players are marketed on their quantitative differences and gimmicks, rather than any proper representation of the source. Sadly, this is everywhere it seems; like in all the streaming video you can watch online of regular television broadcasts. The TV broadcasts themselves are downgrades from their sources, especially when things are taped in HD and then compressed for standard TVs (something I hate, but I don't have HD cable, so I should probably shut up about it). Then it is streamed for the web and it looks and sounds worse, but who cares, right? I mean, I can watch pretty much anywhere, anytime, as long as I have a computer with internet access available. I hope that sites continue to upgrade equipment and software, and are never truly satisfied with quality, because the technology will eventually catch up for consumers, even for those do not yet have the HDD space, or for whom "1920 probably won't even play on [their] computer." HD is somewhat taxing on my PC right now, but I fucking love it -- when done correctly, it really does blow away lower end videos, like the ones seen on so many of the sites that sell their wares in quantity. Oh, and one question: are there some sites you can recommend that have both great video and photograph quality? I can think of both ALSScan and InTheCrack off the top of my head, but nothing else comes to mind. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Don't feel too bad; my favorite film is "Jaws," which is arguably responsible for every summer blockbuster, good or bad, since its release in 1975. Granted, I think it has much more story to tell than any Bay feature, but its marketing and release tactics started us down the path that have eventually led to the likes of "Transformers 2." This film, like most other summer blockbusters, seems to just be dumb fun and pure escapism -- though I am unsure what kind of escape "Transformers" could be -- and audiences are just looking for flash and bang, not deep plot and character development. Though I have yet to see either of the Transformers films (they are not exactly on my list of must-see cinema), I do occasionally like dumb, straightforward entertainment that is as shallow and superficial as possible and still be tolerable, but somewhat more simple and classic. The Indiana Jones series is good, as well as the earlier two Terminator films, plus "Die Hard" is classic action, and its setup is not only possible, but has happened in real life, of course with a much more tragic ending. I don't think there is anything wrong with enjoying these films, it is just nothing to brag about, unless you really love watching them. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Great to have you back! We always need more members, new and old alike, especially ones whose "tastes are so drastically different than most." I love hearing statements like that, so it will be nice to read future reviews and comments (no pressure!). Oh, and who's in the avatar? I don't remember it from before. That sucks, he seemed so full of life, especially with his salesman tone. Sort of like the Simpsons character, Troy McClure (as voiced by the late Phil Hartman), who did a number of infomercials for equally useless products. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? It has happened a couple of times, but it was minor, and multiple members responded to the offenders in question, pointing out our unspoken rule of civility. Compared to any other site on the web, we are incredibly tame and open minded. (My theory is that we expend all our energy and passion on our porn, but it is just a theory.)
I presume you mean "I love porn" or "I live for porn," but I have yet to see any women of any age wear either, but maybe they all just steer clear of me. :( "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? More female contributors would be great, but I am afraid Wittyguy's comment about it being a social stigma is true. Even when women are creating and producing porn with the intention of selling it to women, the majority of it still ends up in the hands, and on the hard drives, of men. And all the sites that offer nothing but female content, and the only male presence is the heaving breathing coming from the videographer, the focus is still on what guys want; the body parts and the crazy action, not the passion, which is what I suspect more women would prefer -- lesbians or not -- but I'm not a woman, so I am only guessing here. If a woman did wish to succeed here, would she have to be ballsy, as Wittyguy put it? Maybe, but I do not think the regulars would have to "protect" her, especially considering the relatively civil tone (thus far) of this site. We always have to watch each others backs when it comes to the morons, but we would not have to go out of our way simply because a member is female. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? It's great to have a webmaster here (and a female one at that) to sort out all the confusion and worries, so thanks for responding. Obviously, there are quite a few past and/or present members who care about Abbywinters, and just how this could effect a more restrictive Internet for the future, especially regarding our most precious resource -- porn. Hope it all goes well for everyone at Abby, and you will still be around for a long time to come. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Man, this sucks. I really don't give a shit about anyone's personal life, but being a celebrity, they sadly had no choice. It seems we can't wait for someone to become really famous just so we can knock them down. They are both missed. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Very true, though porn hardly qualifies as anarchistic or revolutionary (too "busy" to organize an overthrow of the state), though there are other parts of society that essentially exist only to control people, though of course they would never admit it. I don't understand this one. I know that PU only lists three niches per site, but it seems like photography should be one of them for InTheCrack. When they first started, they only had videos -- which you can still see, as the first dozen or so models are video only -- but they now offer lots of photos. And, like you said, they are well done too, even if still thoroughly Photoshopped. Another example is ALSScan, which has neither video nor photography niches listed, even though quite a few members here rave about the quality of both, not to mention the sheer volume of content they release. Contrary to InTheCrack, they started out primarily as a photography site, with videos of photo shoots, but now seem to focus on both, though I still prefer their photos (no talking!). Yeah, don't you love it how our government uses so many resources, time, not to mention our money, to run its war on porn? You got to love the Stones, but I think a successful rock band is the last group of people who can claim they can't get no satisfaction, but of course they never tried to produce porn (that I am aware of anyway). And sex will never truly be free, someone will always be making money off of it; condom makers, beer brewers, lube manufacturers, the list goes on... "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? I remember seeing a documentary about porn where a producer said something like "If I pay a girl for sex, that's prostitution, and it's illegal; but if I pay a girl for sex and I film it, that's porn, and it's not illegal. That doesn't make any sense to me." Of course, as we all are very well aware, producing porn is illegal in much of the U.S. anyways, so it doesn't matter whether it's porn or prostitution, it's illegal. Hell, where I'm from, any sex outside of marriage is illegal, and a lot of sex, even if you and your partner are married, is still illegal. You can take a guess at where I am from, since that still covers a lot of states, but it is still bullshit. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Yeah, I love the chase as much as the catch, but when you have a lot of catch you kind of don't want to have to chase it all over again. After all the swearing, I don't know what I would do if one of my hard drives failed. The recovery fees I have see are ridiculous -- more than a new hard drive and all the memberships required to refill them -- plus, I bet they would just keep copies of all my data/porn for themselves. I wonder if you could disassemble the drive and install the platters in a new drive. I am sure it as least physically possible, but you probably wouldn't be able to read any data anyway. I sometimes spend more time adding movies than I do watching them, especially since I tend to just queue something if I am even mildly interested, and then sort out the order later. And Gcode, TV shows are great since you can watch episodes more quickly than when they are broadcast, you just have order more discs than for most films. Of course, "The Prisoner" is on DVD, and I am sure Toadsith would list it as required viewing. They have a ton of HBO productions stuff too; movies, comedy specials, and just regular shows, and probably cheaper than actually subscribing to HBO. One movie I would recommend off the top of my head would be Brazil; a hilarious black comedy set in the future, directed by Terry Gilliam from Monty Python. It is about a government worker (Jonathan Pryce) in the future who spots an error in his paperwork and who has to go through a very haphazard adventure to try and fix it. I love it because it I think it is what our future will really be like, where everything is controlled by the government but in an incredibly inefficient and unreliable manner, unlike the more finely tuned dystopias we usually see in films. Dammit, I have yet to join Abbywinters and they are trying to shut them down! I am sure some of their more loyal members here at PU will be pissed. And I would love to visit Australia one day, but it seems as if all porn is illegal, so I would have to leave my laptop and my brain at home. :( But seriously, what is it with these supposedly free countries around the world (including the good ol' U.S. of A.) banning any and everything that might bring the slightest amount of happiness to somebody without hurting anyone else? Granted, they found out that one model was apparently seventeen when photographed, but the point of the raid seemed to be outlawing porn. Where's Wittyguy and his free speech rants? A couple of odd quotes in this article:
It's probably taken out of context, but come on, how many here at PU have said this after joining a site? And isn't the whole point of Abbywinters' content is to be satisfied?
I am sure she has good intentions here, but this idea that it is "unethical to mislead very young people into choices that could affect their entire life" covers a lot of things, not just porn, and it seems to support this theory that porn is the absolute worse thing very young people could possibly do. That's bullshit, these models were doing something that they enjoyed to earn money -- without hurting themselves or anyone else -- and the state gets its underwear in a twist and has to go and ban porn. These are just portable or mobile hard drives; like their less portable, more stationary, big brothers minus the larger capacities and fans. I have one myself, it's very easy to move around, quiet, and it was pretty affordable. A year ago Popular Mechanics did a very unscientific test of four portable hard drives to see if they would still read/write data after being dropped on the floor. A LaCie Rugged drive survived until a 15ft fall on concrete, but it comes with rubber edging on the case, which probably makes a big difference in absorbing physical shock. They are nice for moving around data when a memory stick is too small -- you lose it too easily, and there is not enough space for all your porn, I mean data. The only thing is treat them gently (they are still a hard drive after all), use a case, and they need a powered USB port (no keyboard or monitor ports), or 6 pin FireWire port to run. Holy shit, that's a lot of drive space! And it just keeps growing (insert bad joke here)! I am sure you have proper cooling so as not to a have a porn-fueled fire hazard, since explaining that to a fireman would be a little embarrassing: "Uh, you see, I was trying to build a library of porn, and, well, I had all the drives running and..." As little as I say I care about the male talent, I somehow always have issues with them, including the condom issue. Like others have written here, I think it is the whole fantasy aspect. If these two people are doing all kinds of crazy, back breaking, eye opening sex acts, then the mundane reality of a condom detracts from all the fun. I mean, who among us actually fantasize about encounters that include using condoms? My recent membership I had with Explicite Art stood out because almost every scene with a guy involved condom use. I can't say it actually hurt the scenes -- they still yanked them off to shoot at the girls' faces -- but it somehow made it a little different (less dirty?) than the normal condom-free craziness we see from all the U.S. studios and sites. Maybe it's why I always return to solo girl material: you can never feel guilty about enjoying it...until some (un)lucky cameraman or towel girl get hit in the face with some errant body fluids. ;) "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? When is it ever as bad as the media makes it out to be? More mainstream, and particularly conservative, media outlets love these stories, because they use them to get up on their soapboxes and "prove" that porn really is dangerous or unhealthy, as if STDs do not exist outside the world of porn. I will say that even if the porn industry views itself as safe, there is no 100% guarantee of never contracting something. Yes, they have mandatory testings ever thirty days...but what about the rest of the time they are still having sex? The test results immediately go out the door as soon as they fuck unprotected. I give them credit for being upfront about the dangers of AIDS/HIV, and being honest whenever there is an outbreak, such as this, and not ignoring it like other, seemingly more "moral," groups of society. Life is full of risks, and I think they deal with them pretty responsibly. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? I think he owns part of United Artists, and that probably makes him plenty of money. Even if they didn't include his earnings from that studio, I would not be surprised if he makes plenty even for a bomb, because it is likely he (or any of these actors on this list) agree to commit to a film only after a considerable salary upfront, plus a certain percentage of box office gross. It is kind of like what Ford did with the latest Indy movie, though that was probably an unusually good deal. I could not stand that film, but it's part of a successful franchise, and was probably not too huge of a gamble to let him have so much of the profits. Of course, it's all about the art, right? It's a hell of a way to grow old, even without all that sex that I am assuming he used to get. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Cybertoad originally listed "Sexual Orientation : Gay, Straight , Bi or Other?"...and the "Other" there has got us confused. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? I am wondering about this one myself...maybe some kind of porn star-only orientation that fluctuates from video to video, and is determined by how much pay she is receiving? Creepy and disturbing, but still his right to do so, and it seems to have television interested enough to think he, or whoever he is dating, is relevant to give them their own show. What I have seen of the show, there is not much to it; some behind the scenes stuff at photo shoots (which are softcore anyway), and their day to day "lives" at the mansion, but the girls are dumb as rocks, and you feel guilty after watching more than two minutes of it. It is all about money; no matter how charming of a gentlemen Hef is, I seriously doubt he would be as popular, or at least as active, as he is if wasn't the millionaire founder of Playboy. Hair Color: Red, and it has to be natural! Hair Length: Half back, or even shoulder length, but no bangs whatsoever! Eyes: Blue. Weight: 110lbs (she is short, not anorexic). Breast Size: B. That way there is no dispute if they are hers or some overpaid plastic surgeon's. Breast Origin: Real, because that's the only breast origin, a saline or silicone implant is not a breast. Nipples: Yes, please; just not too big (no half-dollar nipples or areolae). Breast Type: The type that I get to touch. ;) Pubic Hair: No thank you. Ass Type: Firm, and open to anything... I don't think a bubble butt would work at the weight I listed above. Pussy Type: See Breast Type above, otherwise I am not too picky. Feet Size: Who cares, as long as they are clean? Tattoos: No. In fact, she should have a lifelong allergy to all tattoo inks. Piercing: Ears and nipples, but both are studs, not big rings or hoops. Ethnic: If she is a redhead, she's going to be white. Body Type: Somewhere between a skinny and athletic female. Sexual Orientation: She will at least have to be comfortable with a guy like me, but that might make her end up liking girls more. :( Age: Early twenties. Experience: New to porn within the last six months. Clothing: None! Maybe a tight T-shirt and matching socks. Favorite Fantasy Scene: It involves me and we would be very creative, but that would not be on camera...so something with a close girlfriend of hers. This Video: Mostly solo and girl-girl, and I direct (but I never speak, I promise). Comments: Great idea for a thread! But now Cybertoad is leaving after having just returned. Well, have a good vacation. Wittyguy: hilarious post, everyone should read through it. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Welcome to PU. Nice to have another woman here, though it seems like all the female members are from Britain. One question: why is your site named Joy Bear? No offense, but at first I thought the name was implying it was a gay site (because of the bear term in gay culture). "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Will they ever stop remaking, re-releasing, or just plain rehashing old TV shows? Of course, if the film adaptation makes that kind of money, a sequel is pretty much guaranteed, and I all can do is add another release to the list of movies in which I have no interest. I like it when they take a successful current show, and, just once, make it into a film, like "South Park" or "The Simpsons"...at least for now. This way, you have the original creators still around who can usually keep it from completely bombing. I wonder what Toadsith thinks of "The Prisoner" as a movie? I have heard they are remaking it for TV and possibly for a feature length film, but I am sure many have their doubts. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? No worries. I don't think we ever discussed how to actually find out a video's size until this thread, so it was probably good you asked. I agree that Videobox is fairly decent, at least at their DVD resolution. I remember comparing a few of their videos to the same ones I had on DVD and they looked pretty good, though definitely not the same. As mbaya said, a poor original can yield poor results, and the more hands, or computers, it goes through, the worse it will look in the end. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Hasn't the government been saying things are "to fight terrorism and organized crime" (or usually crime in general) for nearly everything the last few years? Here in the U.S., they have already linked buying and using drugs, particularly marijuana, to supporting terrorism. Oh, and the monitoring of e-mail and cell phones is to find potential terrorists, or just spy on citizens, whichever works. Anyone remember the V-chip and when all the program ratings started? Personally I like the ratings because they tell you which shows have the good content. ; ) Plus, all the hysteria over the Internet and how it was going to corrupt America's youth is still going on after all these years, and it will probably continue until the end of time, but people are still buying and downloading tons of porn (and badandy400 is probably somewhere near the top here). Regardless of what happens, I think the flow of "information" will still continue, maybe just not as directly, or even nearly as smoothly, as before. We are not turned corrupt by our culture, we are humans, so we are born corrupt, and we will always keep our porn industry alive and well. And eventually, when this youth market grows up, gets married, and shares a phone account with a loved one, they are going to get their own laptops and desktops and demand the higher quality stuff we already love...without telling that loved one. You think with all the endless remakes and sequels Hollywood does, the porn industry would be remaking things from the classic era but with new casts and equipment. They already have the sequels thing very well covered, so maybe remakes are the next step. "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? The videos at Anilos, at least the ones labeled "HD," were probably shot with an HD camera and never had to be scaled down to DVD resolution (usually 720 x 480 for NTSC). A DVD site is probably all sourced from DVDs -- not the original source, which may have been shot in HD -- and so, even at a high bitrate, may not look that great. As many of the members may know, video size isn't everything, bitrate matters too. Messmer also started a thread about this last September. Concerning sizes, we had a thread about "HD" quality over a year ago, including a great post about resolution by Toadsith, who always seems to be the go to guy for all this high tech computer and Interweb stuff. Size is still pretty important to me (uh, video size that is), so I always try to check out sample videos on tours at their original, or 100%, size, and then at full screen to see the qualitative differences, since I like to watch in full screen mode. For me, HD at 100% is very close to full screen, but again, since size isn't absolutely everything, I try to judge sound, lighting, colors, etc. before I instantly judge something labeled "true HD," or "full HD," or whatever as great video. I saw his film "Ali G Indahouse" a few months ago. I was at a friends house, so I was polite and didn't try to break his TV or utter too many profanities, but the humor was definitely not my taste either. I understand there is pretty big difference between his Ali G and Borat characters, but the experience of sitting through most of that film kind of hurt my chances of ever wanting to hear from or see him again. On the other hand, I have heard of quite a bit of controversy around "Borat," so I might see it after all, just to see what all the fuss is about -- though in America, it usually seems to be over nothing. Now that I think about it, the avatar sort of reminds of an ostrich burying its head in the ground if it feels threatened (though I don't think they actually do that). Maybe the guy in your avatar was scared by RagingBuddhist's avatar, and so he shoved his head up his ass! "It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? Won't they have to extend this to any drawing or cartoon that depicts something illegal? Say drawings of certain types of firearms, or how about a car that isn't street legal? Pat362 mentioned "The Simpsons," and I believe there are a number of episodes in which Bart drinks alcohol and smokes cigars; shouldn't these been banned from broadcast or sold on DVD since these are depicting illegal activity, specifically activity involving a minor?
