Pros: |
* Very good photographers and cinematographers, especially by porn standards
* More creativity than is evident in most porn
* Girls are uniformly GORGEOUS (and there's a little something here and there for the ladies and bi boys too)
* Unlike the "mothership" (Met-Art), does all of this without sacrificing eroticism. Hot, hot, hot! See Bottom Line for some of the reasons.
* Easy and intuitive to navigate
* Some feedback features
* Some people will consider some of my "cons" to be pros.
You also get linked to a ton of really hot camgirls, but have to pay separately to do much more than browse them, so that's really a separate thing from SexArt itself. |
Cons: |
* Not that much content yet (but the site is quite new, give it time!).
* Very little boy-girl hardcore so far (even proportionately)
* "Original series" material may be of limited interest
* Movie content available so far (excluding Girls Love Sex) is almost entirely focused on just three models.
* Some odd inconsistencies in navigation - each section is intuitive in itself, but they don't all work the same way.
* Can't tag movies (can on other kinds of content, and even photographers).
Some clarifications:
By "not that much" I still mean upwards of 80 movies and photo sets (though over 1/3 are the filler-ish "Girls Love Sex" series), so it'll still keep you going for a bit.
As of April 19 update, 21 of 25 non-GLS videos feature at least one of Malena Morgan, Elle Alexandra, or Riley Marks.
NB - The site is still in a "soft launch" phase and much of the information in this review, especially the "Cons" section, could change at almost any time |
Bottom Line: |
In describing my ideal porn site, I've often used the exact words "Met-Art with hardcore". In recent years, a few sites that attempt to approximate this have appeared; X-Art, JoyMii, PassionHD are the first to jump to mind, and others such as Sapphic Erotica have their moments. Now the real thing is here. How does it compare?
I am pleased to say EXTREMELY well. While I've only given a score in the 80s, this is largely because the site is so new and its current content limited accordingly, and I would not be at all surprised to revisit and raise that grade within a few months. More content won't be long in coming - they already update daily (one new film or photo set 7 days a week at midnight PST), and according to an e-mail from a tech at the site, they hope to ramp up to four a day over time.
Generally speaking, the photo sets lean toward solo masturbation and the videos toward girl-girl action (excluding the "original series" which I'll discuss separately in a moment). Both are, on the whole, even stronger than those on sites like X-Art, with a great deal of attention being paid to sets, lighting, creative camera angles, and so on - but not at the expense of SMOKING HOT action. A photo set of truly beautiful and under-appreciated Czech porn star Dido Angel sharing some tender moments with a glass dildo has instantly become my favorite solo porn set of all time; you really notice little details in (for example) the way she uses her mouth that go completely unnoticed and unappreciated in, say, her (nevertheless also highly recommended!) work for Pierre Woodman. I think the photo sets are meant to be viewed using the site's built-in slideshow feature and I urge users to try this, on the stronger sets such as the two (so far) featuring Dido it's an INTENSE experience.
The movies have lots of little touches that set them apart from those on other sites. Some get very artsy and creative, with perhaps my favorite so far being "Sexart", the film named after the site; Elle Alexander dildos herself to an orgasm so intense she nearly passes out - as I interpret it she *does*, and the rest is a dream sequence - after which one of her paintings (Malena Morgan in much body paint) comes to life and tries the toy out for herself. Very creative AND very raunchy. Even the ones, like "American Girls", that just give you straightforward action have some touches you won't find elsewhere - Malena actually CALLS OUT RILEY MARKS' NAME as she's being pleasured. Where is this extremely erotic element of real-life sex to be found elsewhere in the porn world? Nowhere I've heard of, other than SexArt.
The movies don't drone on like those of some other sites - despite more attention to scene-setting than most porn, they basically make their point and then STFU. Even more than those of X-Art, they are great examples of how much hotness can be packed into (typically) about 8 minutes.
By comparison, the "original series" are mildly disappointing. There are two, both from the creator of such mainstream erotic films as 9 1/2 Weeks.
"Kamikaze Love" seems to be a feature film being released in 8 minute segments (three so far), and tells the tale of a tragic, doomed romance. I was disappointed that it's softcore, and even if it wasn't its darkness and (psychological) BDSM overtones are a long way from what "Met with hardcore" means to me. Fans of wet and messy food-sex may like the third episode, though (personally it did nothing for me).
"Girls Love Sex" consists of interviews with various female models about their sexual tastes and histories, along with typically a solo masturbation segment. It can get pretty hot - one curveball I liked was the second of Charlotte Stokely's back-to-back episodes (most girls only get one), which is basically a jerk-off encouragement video for WOMEN - but can get a bit samey after a while, even if it's at least samey in a different way than mainstream porn is.
My biggest criticism apart from content being sparse is that the ratio of boy-girl material is very low so far - currently two photo sets of the same couple, and one video of a different one, plus the softcore/"hard R" material in Kamikaze Love. Both photo sets are very pretty and romantic; one features a blowjob that should leave you weak at the knees (another good one for the slideshow), the other features the GUY - a rather pretty individual named Tobias who women and bi men should appreciate - working the girl with his hands, and just barely qualifies as hardcore. Both are very good but I wish there were a lot more, and a wider variety. The video again manages to be romantic without being boring when viewed as porn, and again just makes me wish there were more of them.
This site is off to a great start. While I could see waiting a while for more content, signing up now will encourage them to develop the site to a point where that content exists for us all to appreciate. It's not like any other site out there, and mostly in a good way |

Pros: |
* Good quality photography
* Most girls are attractive and display a good attitude
* Good connection speed
* Navigation will mostly be familiar to users of other sites on Met-Art's network. |
Cons: |
* Streaming videos seem buggy if you want to do anything other than watch them from beginning to end without pauses or skips.
* Lots of strange insertions and weird borderline-BDSM pussy play (may be a pro to some)
* Very little, and mostly mediocre, boy/girl content
* Some videos are basically just the photo sets with a camcorder running (can hear posing instructions etc)
* Navigation options are very lacking and search often turns up irrelevant results. Has a tag system but searches seem to mostly ignore it.
* Model names aren't consistent with other sites, even other sites on the same network. |
Bottom Line: |
This is a site whose name I've been seeing for a LONG time. If it's not older than some of the girls in its newest sets, I'm pretty sure it's close - I'm fairly sure it debuted in the 90s, though it only specifically shows shoots back to 2005 at the moment, with selected older content relegated to an undated "archives" section.
I've liked a lot of the bits of content I've seen from them over the years, but never felt compelled to join until now. It seems to have recently been taken over by Met-Art. Like many other sites in their orbit of late, they're marketing it pretty aggressively, with a good discount available through PornUsers and an even better one having recently been e-mailed to current and former members of other sites in this network. On the basis of this, I signed up. Unfortunately I have just canceled after only four days (as always, the membership will still run for a total of a month, it just won't renew).
Partly this is because I mostly want boy/girl content and ALS has only recently started (or resumed - I could have sworn they had some in their early days?) shooting such content. I'd say well under a quarter of their recent updates (which occur once a day) have featured straight sex, and this content only dates back a few months.
However, it's hard to say for sure because there is no option to zero in on a particular type of content, other than a search box that seems to mostly pay attention to the (rather arbitrary) set titles. You'll look in vain for a list of categories on which you can click "boy/girl" and get a list of all the b/g content. Search for "boy/girl" and you'll get every set with "girl" in the title, which as you can imagine, is a LOT of them. This needs a rethink.
Once you've found what you're looking for, it's usually... good but not great. Nearly everything about this site is good but not great, actually (except the navigation which is downright bad). The looks of the models are good but not great, the creativity of the sets and shot choices is good but not great, technical aspects like connection speed are good but not great. Unfortunately with the number of sites competing for my dollar, "good but not great" isn't going to cut it. I certainly don't regret signing up, especially at the price they were offering as of a few days ago, but I don't see anything that compels me to renew.
As with network-mate Sexart (for which I would now want to revise my glowing review downwards a little), it seems to promise something amazing and groundbreaking but deliver something that's merely above-average.
Overall, I can honestly say this is a site I'd recommend, but only weakly so. It's definitely worth it at the very low prices on offer in various places lately. You might like it better than I did if you prefer solo or girl-girl action or if you're into things like a cute girl clipping a dream-catcher to her labia. (That kind of weird borderline-BDSM stuff is only in a minority of their sets, but it's conspicuous by the mere fact that it's there at all.) I can't say that's my thing; while I appreciate a more creative approach to porn, that isn't the direction in which I'd prefer to look for it. |

"*Sorry but facials should never be included in glamorous porn because there's nothing glamorous about shooting cum all over the face of the woman you had sex with since there's no way you are going to kiss that mouth and obviously neither do the guys in these videos."
It may not be a surprise given my nick, but I couldn't disagree more. Facials are, for my money, easily the most visually interesting element of mainstream porn (on the average), and it constantly frustrates me that otherwise high-quality "glamour" sites tend not to include them.
And, post-facial kissing is very much a thing, and one that if anything I wouldn't mind seeing more of. Seems only fair on the part of the guy if he wants/expects his girl to take it in face. I don't want it in every scene, but it would be a good occasional inclusion, *especially* in scenes with a bit more of a romantic feel.

I said depends on the girl, but "depends on the accent" would be more accurate. Ones from the British Isles don't do it for me, except some Scottish girls. German, not so great either. Most Eastern European ones... yum, yum. Japanese girls often sound incredibly cute. I could listen to certain African accents all day long but don't find them *sexy* exactly.

Interesting! If you don't mind helping settle the argument from March (see above comments), was there any b/g content in the 90s sets you have? I remember seeing a whack of ALS stuff on Usenet around 1997 or 98, but I don't think I downloaded much if any of it - at any rate, I don't have any of it now, as far as I can tell. I couldn't tell you for sure if there was b/g content in there, but I lean toward yes.

Just as a general update, I was WAY optimistic even in saying "less than a quarter" of recent updates were b/g. There has been ONE in the last *21* updates. Though just prior to that there was a mini-run of them with four out of the previous 20 - which is still less than a quarter, but not nearly as blatantly so (only one set short). Still not enough for a merely above-average site to merit a renewal from me, but naturally, different strokes (in this case, somewhat literally) for different folks.

I haven't been a member for months despite my own glowing review below (a combination of protracted unemployment and slowly losing interest in SexArt's stuff despite a very good first impression), but I don't see many b/g sets still. Videos, yes - seven in a row and something like fifteen of the last twenty at this writing, which is closer to, maybe even out the other side of, the ratio I was hoping for - but from a quick look I'd say the ratio of b/g material in the photo sets has actually gone DOWN since my review, it seems to be well under 5%. Which is a pity, especially given the existence of The Life Erotic - if I want masturbation and lesbian material in a style similar to Met-Art, I'll just go there.
I'd be interested in another original movie somewhat like Kamikaze Love if it were (a) hardcore, and (b) less dark. Most of the rest of the site is about the ENJOYMENT of sex, KL... wasn't.

Regarding what you said about Kamikaze Love, that had a finite amount of story and they got to the end. They didn't give up on the idea or anything, in fact the whole thing was finished or at least in post by the time the site went live.
I don't know why they call it "season 1", though. There isn't much room for a sequel, nor do I get the impression there would be much interest in one.
I didn't care for KL anyway and it's just as well it's over and not crowding the already somewhat limited update schedule.

I've seen bits of their stuff, they often get recommended in the same breath as sites I know I like. Unfortunately I don't find the ladies they use as attractive, on average, as those at a lot of other site. Still, they might be worth checking out.

This is the first time I've been a member of more than one; I joined two within a few days of each other, a little over a week ago. Most of my activity here has concerned SexArt, so I guess it's pretty obvious that's one of them. The next review I post will make the identity of the other one clear. But I just haven't been that horny for a few days; guys have cycles just like women do. The next time I'm in the mood for a heavy dose of porn you'll see what the other one is.

What are some good examples of such porn that don't fall under my other objections? (I.e., should be hardcore, and male characters should be more sympathetic than I currently find Jack to be - I realize the latter is somewhat subjective, but that shouldn't mean there isn't enough common ground to make an educated guess...) I'd be genuinely interested in checking such material out, for lots of reasons not the least of which is that people seem to think I should do more reviews. (There is one that I am *ahem* researching that I hope to write up soon - probably in about three weeks, but more likely to be sooner than later. But more suggestions would be good.)

I've had experiences that fall into every one of the above categories.
Obviously my current obsession is SexArt. My experience has been that they're a bit slow on the main site, and fast (instantaneous via chat) but almost totally unhelpful on the cam site. Compared to other pay sites I've tried, I'd say for the main site their support is in the top half but not the top quarter, and for the cams their support is in the bottom half but not the bottom quarter.

Come to think of it, that's also what makes it impossible for me to view Kamikaze Love as porn, no matter how many tits there are in it.
You hear comments all the time on sites like this that male porn actors are essentially scenery (in mainstream porn aimed at straight dudes, and for that matter probably in gay porn as well). The reason for this is that, for male viewers, the idea is usually to imagine YOURSELF as the guy (or one of them) in the scene. All else being equal, this is easier to do the more generic the male characters are.
Male characters with strong personalities CAN be at loggerheads with this goal. They don't have to be; I can imagine enjoying porn with a well-defined male character that I *LIKED*. But with this guy as the only male point of identification? No way. I don't understand his motivations and what I see of his actions mostly disgusts me. That he is rewarded for this with a small army of hot women (three that we've met so far if I've succeeded in keeping my characters straight), which I'd be particularly happy about if he were someone I could identify with, instead just makes me angry.

Actually, after tonight's update I think the main - or at least, another major - problem I have with Kamizake Love concerns the male lead.
He's clearly a character you're supposed to have mixed emotions about - simultaneous attraction and repulsion, that sort of thing. I suspect many *women* viewing the series will indeed have such a response.
I, on the other hand, don't have mixed feelings about him at all. I just plain hate his guts. He's a smug, arrogant, self-obsessed, manipulative, psychologically abusive asshole and I want him to die and the heroes to have a party to celebrate.
But there ARE no heroes in this story, and even if he does die at the end (I have no idea whether he does or doesn't) this is sure to be depicted as tragic or at best having a mixed upshot.
Still... find me another piece on a porno site that could even ignite such a debate in the first place. Take your time, I'll wait.
On that level, Kamikaze Love is an unqualified success.

These videos and the "original series" I mention in my review are one and the same. For whatever it's worth, King's passing shouldn't affect either of them as far as I know.
I believe Kamikaze Love was shot in its entirety late last year, and they're just taking their time rolling it out. So it's not like the loss of King affects their ability to finish the story as intended, because that has already happened.
BTW, while I don't find it sexy in the slightest, it seems to be a decent psychological thriller so far. He could certainly have had a worse swan song.
(There are three episodes out so far, if it's feature length that would point to a total of about twelve episodes. It's clear from the trailer that a lot of footage exists, and existed before King died, that's not in those three episodes.)
As for Girls Love Sex, that is more of a loose concept than anything, and consists mainly of unscripted interviews. It may have been his idea, but it can chug along fine without his direct involvement. I would in fact assume it was doing so even when he was alive.

Thanks for your kind words. I basically wrote the kind of review I'd want to read, I'm glad it seems to be going over well from what little I can tell so far.
BTW (directed at all readers, not just OTOH), I've made a few minor revisions to the review, most importantly clarifying the site's current status (in Cons) and being more specific about why Kamikaze Love doesn't work for me (in Bottom Line).

Not a member, but it seems to be the *tiniest* bit harder than Met-Art now. Models actually kiss each other, lick their lips and otherwise act overtly erotic, but its still only softcore as far as I can tell from the free portion of the site. Not nearly as big a difference as between Met-Art and Sexart, for example.

It seems pretty good so far but is a little short on content right now, which is to be expected I guess.
It's especially short on boy-girl hardcore - two photo sets out of 32 (one of which couldn't really be called "hardcore"), one non-series film out of 19, and nothing in either of the "original series", as far as I can see. I'm hoping this changes in a hurry.
The mean quality of what's there is VERY high (the fact that most of it isn't B/G hardcore notwithstanding), but right now, if your tastes run in a Met-Art type direction but more hardcore, you're better off at, say, X-Art or PassionHD. (Or orgasms.xxx if you also prefer your women a little older, I suppose.) Much more stuff plus law of averages equals more stuff you'll like despite the average level being maybe a little lower. In time, this will change and sexart is going to be really awesome sooner or later, I predict.

If you read the relevant bit of the review, it explicitly says they're mislabeled on the site. So it's no surprise that the site doesn't match what it says in the review - that's what the review tells you to expect!

When I was a member this past spring and summer, I'd say a little under half the video updates were "behind the scenes" style; most of them, BTS and otherwise, has a photo set they obviously corresponded to, but were mostly shot separately, so you don't get flashbulbs going off except during cumshots.
I should add that they did not use capchas and were quite download manager friendly at that time, so these would seem to be recent changes.
