Please be gentle if you scold me – I admit to being pretty long-winded here at PU. VB is huge and continues to add four new DVDs per day. When you add the low monthly fee, the fact that they allow download managers and put no restrictions on downloads the site is an incredible value. People who prefer stolen porn over paying a low fee for a massive collection of virus-free porn must just enjoy stealing stuff. Because of their size they tend to offer a lot of niche material. Take ‘classics’ for example. I wouldn’t consider VB a ‘classics’ site because proportionally there aren’t that many, but in terms of raw numbers there are probably more classic titles here than on some specific niche sites. Same with a lot of other niches like BDSM and peeing. This subjective, but I really like that VB is adding a lot more titles from Diabolic, Anabolic and JM Productions. These are hard to find as legal downloads so seeing them here is great. They’re all great studios, though JM is likely an acquired taste. Now on to the bad news: I think the old phrase “jack of all trades, master of none” probably applies here. This is just my opinion, but I think that VB stresses quantity over quality as a lot of their uploads are pretty crappy. Yes, I realize that there may be a lot of people out there who like grade-C European porn and that they probably get mad when a title from a big American or European studio with good production values and known models is posted. So I won’t harp on the fact that a lot of the uploads are low-grade titles. I do think a valid criticism is the number of compilations they upload. I get the concept of compilations and I used to buy a lot of compilation VHS tapes and DVDs when that’s how I got porn. That made sense. If I wanted a bunch of scenes with models in schoolgirl outfits doing anal I could but eight titles with one scene each in them or buy one compilation. That was an easy decision to make in those days. But that model doesn’t apply to the current download concept. If all I want are those scenes with youthful models in anal scenes then I can just download it the first time it gets uploaded and I have it. I don’t need it reposted a second, third or fourth time. The good news is that there are usually other members who post comments to identify that the scene is a repost. The bad news is that in some cases the scene might have been posted a half-dozen times, sometimes are recently as a day or two prior. The problem, in my opinion, lies in the decision to buy material from studios whose sole business model is to package compilations FROM STUDIOS THAT VB ALREADY BUYS MATERIAL FROM. I don’t see why VB buys titles from studios like Pandemonium when all that studio has to offer is material that is already posted on the site. The cynic in me figures that VB does this in the relentless push to upload four titles per day. My biggest complaint about the site is something that I’ve just recently discovered. About six months ago I made a decision that many of you had made long before that: life is too short for low-res porn. I have no data cap from my ISP, external harddrives are relatively cheap and getting cheaper per GB so I download better quality scenes now than I would have even a year ago. But here’s the problem with VB: they haven’t expanded their download options in years. The highest resolution they offer now in 75% of their files is 640x480 and that’s the same that they offered back in 2005 when they started. Yes, I know they offer one HD DVD per day (on rare occasions they offer more than one HD per day) but that still leaves 75% of their titles with download options that fall short of industry standards. I realize that with a lot of older titles they are dealing with lower quality video to start, but they should still offer better choices than they currently do. I usually add some of the extra ‘channels’ with my VB memberships but I’m not sure I will this time as the ones I do add – Evil Angel, Vivid and Kink – all offer HD on their own sites while most of the uploads on the channels offer nothing higher than the same 640x480. (I should add that Elegant Angel offers about half of the titles on their channel in HD but Evil Angel and Vivid offer none in HD.) One great thing about the channels is that the price is still pro-rated in your first month. There is one Vivid title that I really want so I can wait until the last days of my membership and add it for a low cost. Even with its flaws, I have to admit that VB is still an amazing value. Whether you’re joining for the first time or the 20th time, you can’t deny that they offer a lot of porn for a low price. There isn’t much more that one can say about VB that hasn’t already been said here, but I’ll try. The site offers a virtual porn mega-store with over 12,000 DVDs and the site continues to grow. What’s interesting is that the opinions and ratings here really run the full spectrum. My personal opinion on VB tends to run with those who are big fans. I join VB twice a year and probably will continue to do so as long as the site exists. I rank it high because what it does, it does well. The site has hundreds of studios on offer and as the site grows they appear to be attracting more. I wish that some of the bigger studios offered more of their titles to VB but a site this size can only continue to grow as it brings sales to studios that need them. Almost any interest can be satisfied here with the only limitation being that as VB relies on DVDs they don’t have some of the more extreme niches since those aren’t usually issued on DVDs. But if it happens to be available on DVD, VB probably has some titles in that genre. VB continues to offer the DVDs in a variety of ways. Streaming is available and downloads are available in both WMV and MP4 formats. The highest resolution available on most is only 640x480 which is low by today’s standards and those come in at 3300kb/s and 30fps. Only one DVD per day is offered with an HD option. One thing that I’ve always respected about VB is that they don’t just rely on a few flashy preview pages and then ask for your credit card number. VB lets prospective members see the entire site. I wish other porn sites would follow this model. VB still offers premium ‘channels’ at additional cost. These are great value if you like those studios and VB still offers a pro-rated price through your first month. If you join in week two of your VB membership you’ll only pay half the price until both sites renew. While I’m a big VB fan the site isn’t without its flaws. I’ve said this before, and I remain convinced of it: one of VB’s biggest selling points is also one of its biggest flaws, namely the addition of five titles per day. What person would argue against more porn, you might ask? One who prefers quality over quantity. With 12,000+ DVDs on the site no one would dispute that VB is the biggest player in downloadable porn DVDs. But to sustain that growth VB relies to heavily on compilations with re-hashed scenes and on low grade Euro porn. I’ll admit that there is an element of subjectivity in this opinion, but I think I’m also being objective when I say that having the same scene on the site in three or four different titled movies adds nothing. Thankfully VB members usually point out a repost so you can avoid it if you have it. As for the Euro stuff, while I’m not a huge Euro fan I can still recognize that there is a difference between good porn and bad porn. They do have good Euro porn here, but they add a lot of bad stuff too. My recommendation to VB is to drop the five-DVD schedule and concentrate on quality instead. One or two quality DVDs per day would be fine and judging from many of the comments on the VB site many other members would agree with me. (I understand that the compilation issue isn’t VB’s fault since the industry cranks them out, but while they make sense in DVD format, they don’t make sense as a download.) One minor gripe is that the site doesn’t let you use the same username and password when you rejoin. I’d prefer that when I join with the same email I’m given my usual name and password. The most polarizing aspect of VB seems to be the VB3 interface. My opinion of VB3 is that it appears to be something dreamed up by the marketing people to lure in new members who are attracted to bright shiny things. If that works, that’s great, because obviously VB needs members to continue to operate. It also appears that the technical people have some clout because the old site is still available and still fully functional. Whenever I go to VB the first link I click on is to go to the old site. I hope that option remains available, and I hope that if enough people also vote for the old site with a mouse click that the marketing exercise that is VB3 will be shelved. Recently, other PU members have reported having low download speeds and even having downloads stop. I experienced none of that and Free Download Manager downloaded everything at the highest supported speed and never once had a broken link or a failed download. It may be that whatever caused that is now fixed. The bottom line for me is that I’ll continue to both support and recommend VB. It has a few flaws, but those are far outweighed by its advantages. With sites like VB no one has an excuse to access pirated porn or tube sites. I hope so. I still think that VB is an amazing site and I still recommend it to friends who are looking to build a porn collection in one easy step. Past complaints have been that VB has too heavy a reliance on low-grade European porn, but they seem to be balancing that with more U.S. titles now. The bad news, in a “Monkey’s Paw” sort of way, is that the U.S. titles are frequently slapped-together compilations. You know the kind where a studio will pay some kid editor to compile some unrelated but thematically similar scenes? That’s the kind of work that gives you classics like “Girls with Moles on their Bums.” Okay, so I made that up, but it isn’t far off. I wouldn’t complain as much except sometimes a scene can be here on the original DVD and then on several compilations too. Even with the European porn, it seems to be bargain-bin quality. Much of the discussion here seems to be about VB3. I share the opinion that most others have: I don’t like it. I’ll admit that part of that is because I don’t like change, but this seems to be a change just for the sake of change. Sure, the old VB was fairly simple, but that’s not bad. My suspicion is that VB3 is driven by marketing. It appears that not all the bugs are worked out yet either since the site pushes a “new and improved” VB3. I tried it and used the feature that allows me to add scenes to “my stash” for future viewing and I found it buggy enough that I gave up on it. Other bad things about the site are probably more personal taste, but it sure seems like VB has every solo girl masturbation movie ever made. And a pet peeve of mine is that with many compilations (and even some original DVDs) the performers aren’t credited. But as for the bad things about VB, that’s pretty much it. This really is an excellent site and I’d highly recommend it. The format is known to most of us: DVDs broken down into scenes that can be streamed, edited into a custom clip, or downloaded in any of several ways. There is usually a clip labeled as “WMV DVD,” one as “WMV high” and two smaller versions for devices and iPhones. Since my connection speed is higher than the last time I was here I downloaded the DVD quality scenes only. They come in at 720x480 and 3800kb/s. HD is available on some titles but not many and it isn’t predictable. The WMV files are in codec 8 so that means that anyone using a set-top USB box (like a Western Digital) won’t be able to play these. Download speeds are up to normal standards. One thing I really appreciate is that when queuing up scenes using a download manager the links don’t seem to have any time-outs. My DL manager was churning away the next morning after loading it with links one night. Not every site will allow that. An addition that VB made a few years ago seems to be working out well – that’s the addition of several “channels.” I always add Evil Angel because I like their work. EA now has 526 DVDs on the site and add a new one every two days. Surprisingly there is little overlap between the EA channel and the two EA sites. Vivid is a bit soft for me but I did try this channel once. It now has 528 DVDs and also updates every two days. I’ve never joined the Reality Kings or Kink sites, though I may this time. One advantage with RK may be that if this is off the VB server then there would be no download limits. If I join and can say for certain I’ll let you know. I’ve been a big fan and frequent member of Kink sites and I’m planning to sign on to this channel soon. It will be a good opportunity to try some material from their sites that I’ve not joined before. One advantage to the channels that isn’t immediately clear is that the pricing is pro-rated. If you join VB at the first of the month and then add a channel two weeks later you’ll only pay for the two weeks left in that month. If you cancel your membership after a month it can be good value. If you keep the membership and all the channels you’ll obviously pay full price the following month. If you need a concise way to think about VB, think of it as an all-you-can-eat porn buffet. The quality is pretty good, but it isn’t as good as other places. This is about satisfying an appetite when you want 10 pounds of chicken wings, not about treating yourself to filet mignon. I had hoped to focus on the new, ‘improved,’ VB3 but I’ll have to leave that to someone else. I’m sure that VB3 is fairly easy to use and straightforward once you get used to it, but with VB2 being as simple and straightforward as it is already why bother changing it? I’m familiar and comfortable with VB2 so I used that. Unless you’ve been living under a rock you know about VB. This has to be one of the best, and probably the best, DVD site on the ‘net. It offers a huge amount of material for the low price of a membership. I can’t imagine that there is another site that offers this kind of value. There are a lot of good reasons to join VB: size and variety are the two biggest ones. There are almost 10,000 DVDs on the site now, with more being added daily. The site doesn’t concentrate on serving one fetish or niche to the exclusion of others either, but it serves many very well. There are members who complain when they don’t like an update, but I think that approach forgets that there are probably a lot of people who are pleased with the update. Also good are the options available to view the scenes: there are multiple download options depending on the quality you want or the size you can store, and streaming is also available. Download speeds are better than average. The downsides to the site are pretty minor and probably mostly subjective. I find that they still seem to push quantity over quality, and I find a heavy reliance on lower-grade European material. VB now offers four ‘premium channels.’ Evil Angel and Vivid were added quite a while ago and both now have a decent library available. These two were bundled for a while, which made for a great value, but now they are separate add-ons. That probably makes more sense given that these two studios offer vastly different material and likely have few customers who seek out material from both. The two newest premium channels are Kink.com and Reality Kings. I didn’t add either of them on. I’m not really familiar with Reality Kings (though I have had a membership) so I can’t give a good opinion. As for Kink.com, if you’ve never been a member of any of their sites this would be a good way to access some stuff to sample it. There is a good sampling from many of their sites, such as The Training of O and Water Bondage. Even with the few things I don’t like, VB is still likely my favorite porn site. It has so much to offer at such a low price that it is a no-brainer to join. Unlike other sites you don’t get a staggered membership at first – you get access to the probably the largest porn stash on the ‘net with no download limits. A membership here for a few months will give you a better collection than some porn shops have. I also added the premium channels this time too. I’m a big fan of Videobox. I’ve had friends who’ve asked for recommendations on porn sites and I’ve sent them to VB. VB is an excellent way to build a large, good quality porn collection. It has enough variety to satisfy all but the most unusual tastes, though the search function (or lack thereof) makes finding what you want more difficult. A site this large needs a better means of searching. VB is big enough and well known enough that one bad review won’t hurt it. I’m still a fan, but less of a fan than I have been. The thing I think that is dragging VB down is, ironically, what is one of their big selling points: five updates a day. The problem with having five updates a day is that this emphasizes quantity over quality. When they’re putting five new DVDs up per day, every day, regardless of your tastes there will be an awful lot of crap being uploaded. To fill their daily quota VB relies heavily on European porn. I prefer American porn, but that’s not my motivating point here. There is good European porn and there is bad European porn. (Same with the U.S.) The problem is that VB seems to rely on more bad European stuff than good stuff. Take Private – they are (or at least used to be) a high-quality studio. I only learned that they also crank out complete crap thanks to VB. This is grade-B and C Private stuff. Another pet peeve of mine that is also caused by the daily update schedule is the use of a lot of compilation DVDs. The problem is that with many of the compilation DVDs VB has already posted the original. Luckily someone usually points out the duplication. But VB gets to count another update without really updating anything. On the plus side, VB has recently been adding older Seymore Butts titles. These are great to see again. They’ve also started adding some Diabolic titles too. There aren’t many up yet, but these certainly move the quality balance in the right direction. For the first time, I also added the ‘premium’ channels. These really add to the value of the membership now that they are bundled for the fee. They are a bit pricey, but they do offer good value with both channels having just under 400 titles posted now. A new title gets added to each channel every two or three days. Is VB still a great value? Definitely. But they should modify their business model now that their so far ahead of the competition and focus on quality rather than quantity. I’ve said this before – if you’re new to collecting internet porn a membership at this site is essential. Most porn video stores wouldn’t have the volume that VB has. If you’re just starting out this will take you much more than a month to get through unless you have a really narrow niche you’re looking for. The other site a newbie needs to spend some time at is American Vice. I’m amazed that VB and AV don’t overlap much more than they do. The up-side to this is that you can download from one knowing that you probably won’t find it on the other. I first took out a VB membership in 2005 and maintained that without a break until late 2008. After that I switched to taking a monthly membership a few times a year. If you’re new to the site, expect to stay a while. There have been some subtle changes that I’ve noticed over the past little while. One is that they seem to have been listening to a lot of complaints by users that the DVDs were heavily skewed to anal themes. Some people took to calling the site “AnalBox.” In my current stay at VB I can report that there does appear to be a reduction in anal themed DVDs. I’ll leave it to you to decide if this is good or bad. (The Rearadmiral, though, thinks it’s bad.) In my opinion, the switch away from anal (which I never thought was out of proportion with the industry – anal is popular people!) means that VB doesn’t have some anal scenes from some of the hottest new girls in the biz. Stars like Aubrey Addams and Dakoda Brookes do anal, but there aren’t a lot of their anal scenes on VB. I suspect that this is partly a response to complaints. There are also a lot more European videos. Some of these are decent, many aren’t. When they promise five updates a day they have to have access to a lot of videos and they seem to have sourced a lot from Europe. I like European movies, but I prefer U.S. stuff because I find it easier to keep track of the stars I like. Anal or not, one issue is that they really seem to focus on quantity over quality. Some of the videos are really bad. I mean generally bad, not just “I don’t like this fetish’ bad. One thing I liked was that they are also adding some older (1990s) titles. Yes, I know this is a preference thing too, but it does add to the variety. Apart from adding a lot of European content they are obviously continuing to expand their American lines too. Since my last membership they’ve added J.M. Productions, for example. Overall, this site remains a must-have membership if you like porn DVDs. Sure, they often offer a wide range of material so that most porn buyers can find something they like, but in most cases they do that at the expense of quality. With this site, the site itself and the videos they offer certainly lack the quality I’ve come to associate with smaller sites. Before I wade into the main review I need to explain that I’ll be missing some details. The network is large and the videos are often available on several sites within the network which makes it seem bigger than it really is. But it also makes it impossible to say how many videos are available. I think a fair estimate is at least 1000 and likely more. Quantity isn’t a problem here. The other problem is that none of the scenes are dated so it isn’t possible to determine anything about updates. More on that later. As networks go this one seems to have a broader scope than many. The sites range from solo girl softcore to extreme pissing sites. In between there are standard hardcore sites, several that feature pregnant models and a lactation site. I won’t list the sites because that list is long and most of them (but not all) are listed at the TBP page. One thing to note is that while the network shows 49 sites 17 of those lead to a site called 4Real Amateurs. I didn’t log into that site so I can’t comment. That leaves 32 actual sites as part of the network. The sites all open in their own page with a standard layout and that layout isn’t user friendly. This is hard to describe, but the videos are each laid out on a ‘panel’ with a thumbnail and a brief description but the area each takes up is varied so the ‘panels’ for each scene end up in disarray. It isn’t bad, but for some who prefers order and logic it is a bit annoying. As I noted above, I can’t give a definitive answer on updates, but it looks like there are no new exclusive updates. In the sites that look like they’ve added something recently those updates have been licenced by other sites. VIPissy, for example, has the newer content on the peeing sites. Other sites don’t seem to be updating at all. Another indication that the sites may not be updating is the quality of the video available. This is probably the biggest flaw in the network. The video quality varies widely across the network but that’s to be expected given that some of the videos are likely more than a decade old. I did find some videos that were 1920x1080 which I’d normally praise. But the bitrate and frames-per-second rate are low at 4200kb/s and 20fps. These videos don’t look good on a 24” monitor. Object edges look pixilated. It’s fair to point out that you don’t have to look too hard to find videos that are 320x240 and 200kb/s. The site supports download managers. I had no problem with links timing out, but then with the small size of some of the files that should be a problem anyway. This network provides quantity over quality. Unless there are specific scenes you’re looking for my advice is to find a good niche site elsewhere. Newer scenes also offer a few options that may be of interest to some members. They have ‘bonus clips’ of a trailer, a cut with close ups and a wide angle cut. This may not be of much value to all members but it certainly shows the site’s attention to detail that they’d make three full-length videos of the same scene available. (I sampled a few of these and can say that there isn’t really much of a difference between the primary scene and the wide angle cut.) Photos are also available in both low and high resolutions. The hi-res phots are 1800x1013. They look crisp for their relatively low resolution. They’re only available as zips which doesn’t seem like a serious limitation as I’m sure this is the preferred option for most picture enthusiasts anyway. I used a download manager with no problems. HD isn’t available with every scene, and oddly it doesn’t even seem to be offered with each new upload. I prefer WMV format, so I can’t comment on the quality of the mp4 files. The highest resolution available for WMV videos is 1280x720 at 4000kb/s, which is HD, but remember that WMV HD is rare here. More common are 720x526 at 2200, 640x360 at 2200 and 512x384 at 1550 with the latter resolution appearing to be the most common. These are lower resolutions than I’ve seen at comparable sites. Photos are available in multiple resolutions with the highest being 2400x1600. Photo sets are available as a zip and the sets can have as few as 30 or over a hundred photos in them. Subjectively, this is a pretty good site, and it is one of the better studio sites that I’ve seen. It seems that many studios treat the internet as an afterthought, but Viv Thomas does seem to understand the importance of the internet. My biggest complaint about the site is the navigation. Many of the niche sites have scenes that average less than five minutes. The layout of each site is the same: there are 16 medium-sized thumbnails per page with a short, mostly useless description. Clicking on a thumbnail open that page where the scene starts streaming and playing automatically. This is a pet peeve of mine: I don’t like that it hogs bandwidth and I don’t like the audio surprises that come with sites like this. There is an option to download the scene too. The downloads are only available as mp4s and only in one resolution. That resolution varies from fairly low (720x480 at 1500kb/s) to fairly decent (1280x720 at 3500kb/s). One is for IPods and such, while the other is labeled as ‘best quality.’ I don’t know how to find resolutions for mp4s, but subjectively the larger file wasn’t much better than the SD wmv. At some point towards when the site stopped updating they did start to offer higher resolution videos. For most of the last 70 or so updates on the site there is the option of wmv HD at 1280x720 / 7150kbps. SD is still available, as are the two sizes of mp4. There are pics available too. The resolutions for these didn’t change through the whole run of the site: they are 1200x865, not bad, but not particularly sharp. Zips are available, and in the longer scenes the zips are broken down into the themes in the scene. For all the dated technical issues, this is still a very interesting site. I’m not aware of any other like it where models undergo BDSM treatment in water. In most of the videos there are several ‘scenes’ within the video, with bondage while being sprayed with water to machines and toys being used, and in most cases some complete immersion in water tanks while bound. The cons for most of the hardcore scenes is that Woodman is a one-man show: he’s the cameraman too. So for many of the shots the camera is on a tripod or Woodman is doing some (often) shaky POV. The camera issues don’t usually detract from the heat though. One definite drawback for many subscribers will be the language issue. The overwhelming majority of the models are European and many of them speak little or no English. This can detract from the heat, but thankfully most body language and sex are universal. The videos are available in a variety of formats and resolutions. Obviously the older videos have fewer options. But if you only want HD scenes there are still lots available. Obviously, older scenes aren’t available as 4K. Without diving into granular detail, there is apt to be a resolution available for any device or Internet connection. One downside that I did notice to file resolutions is that there is frequently a large gap between the 1080p and 720p files, likely because of bitrate. For example, in one scene the 1080p file is 2.25 GB whereas the 720p file is only 500 MB. Admittedly, this is probably one of the widest gaps I found on the site but these gaps do exist. I did discover, however, that switching between FPS options can often lower that gap a bit. And, I should add, this isn’t a significant downside for the site. With storage being cheap and Internet speeds being fast, this won’t be an issue for many subscribers. When I last visited Wow Girls they were still associated with the Diesel Network. While that affiliation seems to be gone (or it may be that the Diesel Network is gone) there are still some models and scenes from that older network available here.
