I have joined a number of sites, as many fellow PU members have. And maybe I've been lucky, but I was never rebilled at any time after cancelling my site membership.
So I think that CCBill and other payment processors are not only efficient, but ethical as well.

Only ever happened once to me around 6 years ago with ddgirls.com (now digital desire i believe) who had their own in house billing. Sent an email and got the refund no problem. Never had a problem with the regular billing companies like ccbill and epoch.

Never happened to me but I would hope (yes I am in a optimistic mood) that contacting the site explaining the mistake and asking for a refund would be enough to solve the problem.

Totally agree with Ik2fireone.
Third party billers work hard to keep their relationship with credit card companies. Too many complaints about faulty billing practices would end up blackballing the biller (Vendors are subject to pretty strict control by the big Creditcard companies). US customers are very lucky that consumer credit card protections were passed by congress in the nineteen seventies to prevent fraudulent billing, a protection which I believe is now universal.

Been joining paysites since I don't know when - well, at least till back in 2004, probably earlier - but my memory does not go back much further, ho, ho.
And must admit - Never had a rebill after a regular cancel - MANY other problems, for sure - but not that one...

Three sites come to mind:
21st Sextury - I had no access at a point when I was on a 3-month automatic rebill sub. I e-mailed them, they told me - "Oh, we weren't able to bill your credit card, so your membership was cancelled." So after thinking about my options, I joined a different 21st Sextury package - when I got my next credit card bill, there was a charge for the original subscription - I e-mailed the person that had given me the initial incorrect info, was given a refund right away.
Mystique Magazine.com - notorious for putting out all kind of various deals involving life-time memberships and then rebilling. You have to do their book-keeping for them - it's not quite the same thing as a rebill after cancel - but damn, were they a pain in the butt to deal with - and not friendly either, after you had done the work to prove to them that they owed a refund - they'd get you the refund, but left you feeling like they really wanted to rip you off.
Private.com - Prior to the recent re-design, their site had a self-cancel thing, you got no e-mail confirmation after the site tells you that you have successfully cancelled your subscription, then they would rebill you, then they wouldn't respond to the first 10 e-mails or so, then by the time they DID respond, you would have been billed AGAIN, so you would still have been hit with one charge after you had cancelled - THIEVES!

On the rare occasion that this occurs, I call the billers immediately. The issue has always been resolved very quickly/accurately.

If you've really cancelled, then they're screwing you over. That happened to me once a long while back. Contact your credit card lender.

Would call up the credit card company and report the charge as fraudulent first.
CCBill / epoch / vxsbill they are reputable never a problem ever - if I want something from a site that uses any other billing method I check all reviews I can, and if they all check out fine I make damn sure to use a virtual credit card number and cancel that number immediately after - this way no matter if they want to screw me with a rebill or not they cannot charge me again for anything.

Incredible Pass! Incredible Fraud. Seem to be the same company. These people ripped me off so bad. They kept billing for $19.95 for at least a year using a different name each month. It blended in on my credit card statement because other sites I was subscribing to had similar prices. I only noticed it when they got greedy and tried a three $39.95 charges one month. The ONLY option here was to charge back what I could.
Every now and then I get hit with recurring trials. I do not want to cancel earily and lose out, but I can be hard to tell if they feel a day is 24 hours or if when the clock hits 12 am. So if you sign up at 11 pm some like to say your first day is over at 12 am effectively ripping you off 23 hours and possibly re-billing you before you think they would.

Actually I experienced the opposite thing one time. I subscribed for a month to Videobox and I had access to the site for over a year without paying for more than one month :)

I too had the problem on Videobox, except they charged me for a month after I canceled. After talking to their customer service they said it had to do with their biller resetting the billing server, apologized, refunded the month they charged me for and gave me 3 months free membership.
