I think it's a hobby. But it can be overdone.

I picked the fantasy aspect because it seems to be the one that fits the most.

Ditto...what Rusty said. I see it as a part of a multivaried approach to sex.

I guess this poll will tell us. At this point of my life, I watch porn because it's the only avenue I have for affordable sex with myself.

I'd say it's a fantasy thing - I can see things I probably wouldn't in my real sex life, and I enjoy being a voyeur legally and safely!

Most certainly a case of fantasy fulfilment.
I think that for the most part people subscribe to sites because of the fantasy element.
I could also have gone with other - given the fact that at least for younger guys watching porn has become a rite of passage into adulthood and for me at first it probably was too. Of course now it's all about the fantasy element, and maybe because I'm a perv anyway.

The wording seems to imply a bit that men watch more porn than women, which most polls will support. So if the question is more, why do men watch more porn than women? I think the answer is simply that it is more expected of them and more socially acceptable. You catch a boy with a dirty magazine, well he's just a little scamp and boys will be boys. A girl with a dirty mag, on the other hand, my she is quite the budding whore and needs a hearty spanking. (Oh dear! Will that turn the little pervert on?)
Otherwise, I think most people have at least a passing interest in porn. History will back that assertion up pretty well. There are a few pornographic cave paintings (though the vast majority of cave paintings don't actually depict humans ever... we aren't sure why), the Romans loved their porn, from official murals to basic graffiti, Renaissance artists were often popular due to their skill at depicting the reclining nude, many of the earliest photographs were of pornographic nature, and lastly: The very first photograph to be transmitted from one computer to another (via a very , very early relative of the internet) was indeed a softcore pornographic image.
As for why humans like porn? Sure, fantasy, boredom, limited sex-life all apply. Hobby certainly wouldn't apply to most people, but it does apply to a large percentage of the people who contribute on this site (myself included). Lastly, I would say the fifth selection is the most likely except for the "perverted" suffix. Basically, we are wired to find each other attractive. Those creatures that don't, don't end up procreating and their genes aren't passed on to future generations. There is no reason that our sexual organs should be so attractive, for they are strange, messy looking things not unlike our digestive organs. However due to our wiring, oh what the difference! People will stare longingly at aroused genitalia for hours, and because of this, we are one of the most successful species on the planet.

REPLY TO #14 - Toadsith :
Great point of view TS, I agree that most here are probably hobbiest myself included. Oh sure I have the proverbial perverted moments. But over all its hobby oriented. Like this morning downloaded the newest release in teh site I am member at and now will get my coffee and go about my day. No viewing the download or extracurricular activities, just the hobby. However I must say that I trans-morphed into hobbiest, once I never would have thought of collecting it. now its what I do. I guess got older.

I'm glad Toadsith mentioned it. I will always take exception to the pervert label. Men are definitely wired to have more than a passing fascination with the female form. I've long said that there's a biological aspect to pornography but, as long as the mainstream mentality holds onto religion's imposing a false sense of morality, there will always be those who call it a perversion.
To answer the poll, I'll say it's by nature with a good measure of fantasy.

fantasy, pure and simple.
The brain has mercifully equiped us with an ability to load our thoughts into mental images of roles we can play out that, in reality, would be impossible to have.
The advent of porn has simply provided a powerful boosting mechanism that brings us about as close to the real thing as one can be.
An' the beauty of fantasy lies in the fact it never talks back.

I answered fantasy as the option that most sums it up. But I think it is more than just fantasy. Certainly, it is not in order to have a hobby. I have plenty of hobbies not involving porn or sex and I am never short of things to do with my time. And I have never been bored in my entire life, not even for an hour.
Apart from fantasy, it is simply that it is very enjoyable. It gives a rush of adrenaline and endorphins and those are highly pleasurable. The adrenaline rush is similar to what you get from mountaineering or some other exciting activity that does not need to involve fantasy. And the endorphin effect is similar, I believe, to the effect of illegal drugs, though I have never used those and never will. We also eat particular kinds of food because of the pleasure they give and not just for nourishment and there is no fantasy there either.
Few of us are lucky enough to be able to attract a never-ending string of highly attractive sexual partners. And many of us would not anyway want to cope with the trail of mayhem that lifestyle would inflict on ourselves and others. In that sense, porn offers a fantasy outlet at no risk to anyone and at a very reasonable cost when compared with other forms of entertainment.

Any or all of the above - but I guess fantasy is the main thing - letting us look at women, and imagine being with them, in ways that are unlikely to happen in real life.
However, I'd also add another option - inspiration - it's rare to have the chance, but when looked at with a willing partner, it inspires some ideas/scenarios...

Fantasy I guess, but it does wet the appetite for trying new things with my partner. Also we watch porn as a couple once in a while just to kinda switch gears.
Other than that I'd say boredom is a big one, especially when stuck camping somewhere only with my laptop.
