Finally, as of today, my long "stop error" nightmare is finally over. It was a trojan that had the effect of 1. causing the machine to crash and crash again at various points of shutdown and restart, 2. causing Google search page results to link to the wrong links, 3. causing my anti-virus to be unable to update. All of that shit finally went away with an update from Microsoft that finally came. And I'd been trying to access Microsoft's updates, just as with the antivirus, but the damn Trojan was preventing that, too. Reminds of that old adage about death and taxes. Which reminds me of our banking system here in the US, collateralized debt obligations, and well ... can I find a sick bag, please? I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. | |

Thanks. It's got about 72 GB of space left (roughly 50%) and the last defrag was 2 weeks ago. And the noise level is "normal" for those secondary "download" events. Actually, this machine has been having other kinds of problems just recently ("stop errors" that I can't seem to solve), but what I described at the start of the thread has always been the case. Anyway, if I "disappear" for while, it will be due to this machine needing a fixup. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. | |

I always download from and to the same drive, so it wouldn't be the transfer from one to another that causes the big post-World Wide Wait that I get with an occasional site. Yes, that makes sense. All downloads are first put into "temporary." So if one's actually chosen destination folder gets moved or renamed before the download completes (something I'd never do, of course) the file won't be affected. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. | |

Thanks. That idea -- moving the file from temp to MyChosenDestination -- makes some intuitive sense though I don't know why it happens only with some sites. And the time that thing takes, wow, it's slow and makes the box sound like popcorn is on the way. But instead of just changing the directory info, which I think is what happens usually when we "move" files from one directory to another on a disk drive, I guess it's actually moving the file, pieces at a time, to the "Terminus of My Porno Download." Which seems about as stupid as the Ministry of Silly Walks. Why not just "put" the thing where I asked for it to "be" to begin with? BTW, I do have DownloadThemAll added to Firefox, but haven't made a complete migration away from IE. And anyway, I was curious just the same. Thanks again. You right-click, save target as ... No, seriously, I have a techie question. No biggie, but I've always been curious. Mostly I use IE7, if that matters. Downloads I understand: You right-click, save target as ..., the box that says how big the file is appears, start download, then watch the progress bar and speed and all that until it's done. This is typically my experience with sites like Twistys, FemJoy, and MetArt. Downloads I DON'T understand: After that first progress bar completes, ANOTHER progress bar shows up. Now my computer is getting noisier. Sometimes the number of minutes it's probably going to take increases, sometimes by a factor of even 3. This is typical, for me anyway, of sites like InTheCrack -- especially the vids -- and JustTeenSite. So what's going on with that SECOND progress bar? Why does it happen? Thanks for nominating me, but I really doubt it would be much more effective than just having the PU staff do it. My non-porn plate has recently been loading up, and I wouldn't want to be the one who didn't delete spam soon enough. As I was saying (but it got deleted with the spam thread), we should just ignore the spam threads completely until Khan or Rick or whoever comes along and disses them. That means NO VIEWS and NO REPLIES. Once the spammers get it that we aren't paying ANY attention them -- and then the stuff gets erased -- they'll have no incentive to keep returning. Sure, this idea isn't going to work out perfectly. The feckin' spammers can stoke up the views themselves, though every view + 1 would be theirs alone. So it's worth considering no matter what might get done about who moderates. But if Toadsith is game for being the spam chucker, I think that would be great. And if the spammers are just something we have to live with for a few hours on occasion, well, that's the breaks. I'm sure we've all been through worse. The last thing they want is to be ignored, so why not just completely ignore them? I mean, not even view them. And they're easy enough to spot. It's been awhile since I've read the terms of membership for a site, but if memory serves they forbid password sharing. And would PU allow it? Don't think so. Besides, even if it were allowed, who'd get it? Say it was me. I'd have to work very fast to change the username and password just to keep it. If you take Ik2fireone's idea of "stars," which is really points earned on a review, then use the operative word "sort" in Wittyguy's "sorting out good from bad," maybe there's some potential. One could go to a site's page, then from the default chronological listing, chose to sort the reviews from most to least points earned. That could be handy. However, we have to keep in mind that these are still basically quantitative measures. A review could earn 3 points by having the requisite number of different statements made, pro and con, but still be lacking in really good specifics such as video and pic dimensions, actual number of models, actual number of vids and photosets, etc. So it would be worth it some of the time, but not necessarily always. Addiction and its near twin, obsession, are very common to the human psyche. People can become addicted to and/or obsessed about just about anything. But how could the strivers of this world overcome enornous challenges without an unflinching drive, singularity of purpose, and a total disbelief in "can't?" We either admire them or disparage them depending on what they've done, and there are terms both positive and negative to characterize them. I think that the do-gooders that you mention have their own obsessions/addictions to ideas. In other words, it's something that no one with a lot of drive toward a particular purpose or aim can avoid. But you're right. The word "addiction" has a lot of power. If person A can hang the "addiction" sign on person B, that's one-upmanship effectively accomplished with a single term. We saw some of that happening in the thread that Khan linked us to above. Funny this should be mentioned. I've cooled down, if not off, to just a couple of $10 per month memberships for the next few months. I go into my own collection and make "discoveries" of things I hadn't seen in a while. Besides, I'm so "Morris the Cat" about it now that I've been rejecting too much material online. That's Suzi Black. The pic might be from Mike's Apartment; she was added there recently. You can find at least partial listings of her at eurobabeindex. There are some nice photosets of her at ATK Galleria, IMHO. Suzi is hot. I've liked her from first day I laid eyes on her. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England.
