It would be ironic that Brazil would step in with a "natural sex" porn boom in the US. I clicked the link and read the article. Denys Defrancesco says that "the adult business is in danger of collapsing," but on what basis? He doesn't give a shred of evidence nor any links to any. He tells the other sites to stop posting hardcore: "I am aware that this will not happen overnight but I [sic] everybody’s responsibility to begin to censor their new galleries (put only soft content) and remove from your servers the old hardcore galleries ..." So the answer is to go totally softcore? Would that end piracy? I doubt that. Here's an idea: Stop reposting old content as if it's new or different on all the different sites you run. I'm a big fan of music, and my tastes are, IMHO, pretty broad. And music during sex can be very nice, too. You can even sync together with it and it can be quite potent. But I've found out that outside of music-sharing friends, it's hard to know what music people will like. There's stuff that I just love and have loved for decades that other people care nothing at all for. And I'm hard to figure out the same way. It's actually kind of an interesting question: Is religion (or porn) the cause of varying degrees of civility? Or is it that people who gravitate toward porn and are experienced internet users generally more tolerant to begin with? And at PU, you have to have a certain level of education, too, which tends to go with tolerance. In my life, I've met the hardcore type of religious fanatic who scowls at university education and who says that "everything you ever need to know is in here" (hands you copy of the New Testament). But I've never thought that religion makes people intolerant. It's more like people put their intolerance into a religion and then the result makes other people intolerant later. And religious fanatics have leaders who egg them on to do things like camp out at abortion clinics and write complaints about Pajamagram ads. Khan doesn't do things like that, but he does keep us in line if we get too shitty with each other. ANYWAY ... I've read somewhere that studies have been done which show that there are universal standards of beauty, though most of what I remember is about the face: high cheekbones, large and wide-set eyes, and a V-shape to the face. I also generally concur with Colm4. And some places aren't that far off the mark, either. I'm sure we've all had that "kitchen encounter," though I prefer the floor to the Formica. I've learned that any subscription is a gamble, having been shortchanged by a suddenly non-updating site more than once myself. Of course, the longer term increases the risk, but there are other factors that come into play, such as the popularity of the site. But you risk things with mid-term subscriptions, too, if the site doesn't have problems and you wind up spending more than you would have on it over a year with a lower average monthly rate. I just like knowing that I'm signed up for a good long time with a well-established site. I wouldn't do it with the ones that look risky, even though you're right -- they all are. My bets are on that the well-established, highly rated sites will survive. I renewed with MetArt, MetModels, and Errotica-Archives (their 3 for $200/year) and I'm not worried about them. Some of the weaker sites might crash and burn, but although the shortage of revenue is of course a factor, I think it's even more often the choice of the webmaster and/or owner. After all, there are plenty of sites out there that have stopped or reduced their updating, but they are still around. I can recognize the work of MC Nudes, 21st Sextury, DDF, Digital Dream Girls, HegreArt, Torrid Art, LSG, Errotica Archives, Walter Bosque, and ALS Scans (and Angels) pretty easily. They all have "signature" elements of one kind or another both technically and in what they have the models doing. And Ron Harris ... VERY easy to ID with those pinkish tones. So no, I would not be hard pressed at all. In fact, I'm usually right when I see photos from certain sites and nothing is immediately conveyed about their origins, such as when someone posts a link to a pic and asks who the model is here. Or when Twistys or Penthouse posts something done by Digital Dream Girls. BTW, I didn't say that you, Cap'n, said that nude art was a phase. Just find "phase" on the page and it was Wittyguy who said it. Now I'm not sure if he meant it all that seriously or not, but I think that softcore nudes need our support -- and doubtlessly you agree with that -- so I chimed in on the point. www.glamour.cz looks interesting. I've tried to find a decent review of it, but no cigar. They say that they have pics at 2000 px, but their samples are only at 1200 (or over 3000, of which there are only supposed to be 180 or of such supersized pics, according to the site). Nude Art a phase? Click the link for a few reminders of how long in history there has been nude art. Granted, sites such as MetArt go further and better in displaying the nude in some kind of artistic form. They are more erotic, with gratuitous ass poses and so on. Saturated market? And what, pray tell, is hardcore porn doing out of THAT discussion? Yet new sites pop up all the time, far more for the hardcore stuff than the softcore nudes. And new softcore sites come out every so often, too. Too much choice? Maybe the problem isn't with the site, but it's with someone who can't handle his cognitive overload. Take a deep breath, try to be methodical, and remember, you don't have to look at everything. I wouldn't wish for less just for my own sake. There are others out there who can't get enough. An easier and "fairer" way would obviously be to charge more to the bit torrent site sucking users. No infrastructure overhaul or gouging the average user would be needed. I just got a letter from my ISP and they will add $25 to my monthly billing as long as I stay with them. They said that it's lower than the "retail" rates, whatever that's supposed to mean. (They didn't provide a shred of supporting evidence for this claim.) With the experiences I've had with numerous corporations over the years, I'm somehow not inclined to be making excuses FOR THEM, OK? They'll rob you blind if they think they can get away with it. With cable, I've never been "capped." With dialup, I was constantly and would be denied service and had to call them and beg for the account to be reactivated. I'd get close to the limit and they'd email me warnings and shamings, saying that what I was doing was "to the detriment of other users," whoever they were.  But I wouldn't get a chance to read the warning emails until after I was reinstated because there was so much fucking spam and I'd get tired of waiting for it to finally crash my computer before I could read anything anyway. Be thankful that you don't have to chop wood to keep warm in the winter. And be thankful that you don't have to use dialup anymore. I wanted something new, so I left England for New England. | |
