I vote yes. Sasha Grey has commented that when she did that non-porn film, she was pretty much expecting that she'd be getting attitude from the cast and crew and was pleasantly surprised at the fact that she was treated as respectfully as everyone else was. She's gotten decent reviews for her performance and "porn star" is just part of the description of her.
Attitudes are definitely changing in an opening way - at least at this point. Given how things go, that doesn't mean that there won't be a backlash further down the road.

All these awards shows are good fun. Whether it's people in the industry voting or critics voting or fans voting - yeah, it's all subjective as hell and it has to do with who schmoozes and who has the best publicity machine - but the fact that Jenna Haze has done so well speaks to the fact that the awards go to exemplory performers often enough to give you people to root for.

Now that I've got a nice big monitor and that the majority of sites are posting at a good resolution, I watch on the PC within window at 100% of the original or at 200% if I feel that's needed. Now if everyone would go the ALS Scan route and post their new vids at 8000+ kbps bit rates, that's full screen anyway - and deliciously eye-popping.

Here's my idea of a missing niche site - In The Crack Style material of hot import models - you know, the hot girls at car shows, mainly Asians & Latinas with tight teenie tops and teenie tiny skirts or bootie shorts with hot tight bods and great legs - lots of tease material, lots of upskirt, leading to strip shows and masturbation, some girl/girl play, some scenes of girls oiling themselves down and doing sexy nude oil dances, occasional boy/girl stuff, but no great amount - all done in HD with swooping cameras and crazy angles - wonderful close-ups, including faces - lots of great lip shots.
The problem I have with the In The Crack stuff that I've seen is that it gets so specific - this 700 mb scene is going to feature feet, this 700 mb scene is going to feature calves, this 700 mb scene is going to feature ass, this 700 mb scene is going to be her pussy - it drives me fucking nuts. It's a whole woman, god damn it! Show her off, let us enjoy her.
The quality of their shots is undeniable, though, and I'd love to see it emulated in other ways, as I describe.

What's ordinary-looking? There's a lot of porn babes that don't have perfect bods but have a lot of sexual energy. And there are a lot of non-porn-performers that also have a lot of charisma and sexual energy. The whole rating of women against a handful of media-chosen "perfect" women is a loser's game. One of the saddest things I ever saw was a group of junior-high-aged girls way back when "10" had just come out rating themselves - "I think of myself as a 7", etc.

If someone does great work in their medium - in a way that moves me in some way - I'll give them respect. The only category on this list that doesn't mean shit to me is reality stars - what is that? It's like some self-centered assholes, for the most part - but I do like some talent competitions that have "reality show" components - I'm watching So You Think You Can Dance right now - cause great dancers blow me away and this show has a LOT of great dancers.
Whether you're Meryl Streep or Jenna Haze or Manny Pacquiao or Stone Cold Steve Austin (did I say I'm a pro wrestling fan?), if you do what you do and you do it in an exceptional way that moves me, that's something to respect.

For me, innovativeness can be practiced by sites as much by putting a higher degree of energy into their chosen niche as it can by busting out of their niche completely - Nubiles got a lot better, in my opinion, by paying attention to how engaged the models were in the shoots and not just accepting every piece of material that the people that were producing for them turned in - they weeded out the people that were producing mediocre material for them and wound up with a better site because of it.

I put innovativeness of material - If you're going to have a site, aim to thrill. It's why I'm so down on Bang Bros. It's like the entire site is an ode to mediocrity. There are very few updates that look exciting and when you find ones that do, some of them don't download or you think they're downloading and then you watch what downloaded and it's an entirely different vid of some really mediocre-looking woman having mediocre sex with mediocre looking guys in a mediocre looking setting - blaaahh!!
I can put up with some glitchiness in sites that have a lot of exciting material - like the Evil Angel network of sites or the 21st Sextury network of sites. Because if I'm having problems downloading one piece of material, I see 10 other pieces of material that I'm also interested in and they respond to e-mails about the glitches I found - whether they fix them instantaneously or not, they at least show that they give a damn - and the fact that they're putting up a lot of exciting stuff shows that they give a damn about producing great porn. Yeah, pic size is something I care about and I like high res pics and vids, but the starting place has got to be the material - thrill me and then work on upping the res of the material.

Parodies can be fun - but when porn flicks think that they're supposed to something other than porn flicks, they suck. There's a lot of people working on porn features that really wish they were working on non-porn stuff, so their porn work is lame. On the other hand, Scotty X's SuperDrunk with Susana Spears and Swamp Girls are both comedic and weird and funny and very sexy all at the same time, cause they're not trying to impress anybody at how close to the original they are - so they work.

I don't understand all the options in the poll - I'm thick sometimes - so I picked other. I'm a simple man. If it looks good and plays back well, I'm happy. ALS Scan and InFocusGirls and the 21st Sextury sites are among those doing it right. ZTOD is among those that need to tweak their approach. Now that I've got a DVD burner, I just burn my largest files to DVD and download more, so the size is not a problem.

Oh, yeah - I've gotten those "your accounts been suspended because of unauthorized usage" things, but the sites couched the language in ways where they avoided saying that I'd deliberately share information - I think the worst accusation that I got from a site was that I had kept my user/login in an unsecure way. These days most sites are pretty aware of the hacker issue, so they're smart enough not to accuse their members of anything untoward. The most inconvenience I've had recently was with Twisty's, where I couldn't get access for multiple days and had to come on here to complain to get the problem solved - by the site's owner. The regular C/S people didn't ignore me, they just didn't diagnose the problem correctly in that case.

With Regan Starr, it was not just a matter of things getting too extreme, it was a matter of the film-maker & male performer having no care about her well-being as far as she was concerned, which is, in the end, the only thing that matters. She was being abused - and that's just bull-shit - and ought to be eligible to be criminally prosecuted.
Max doing his rough fantasies with consenting performers and sold to consenting adults should not be criminally prosecuted. Shit, John Stagliano's on trial - and the performers in John's stuff look positively gleeful much of the time.

What's interesting about the "his first movies were great, then he went south" comments is that I've read more comments about him being abusive by performers that were in his earliest stuff - like Stephanie Swift - than by performers that were in his later stuff. Performers who did other rough stuff and complained bitterly about how their well-being had been dis-regarded by those other porn producers and performers, said that Max treated them well and made sure that they were OK.
What's on-screen definitely doesn't tell the full story.

The "community standards" argument is a farce. There were people on the jury that were very upset that they felt they had no choice but to vote the way they did, either because they felt rail-roaded by the judge, or rail-roaded by the other members of the jury. The case was all based on the material having been sent to a place where Max and his company did not send the material to. That was confirmed by the distributor that DID send the material to - and the distributor wouldn't have sent the material if the postal inspector didn't order the material and request that the material be sent there. In my opinion, if anyone violated "community standards", it was the postal inspector, who had more of a basis to understand the "community standards" than anyone else involved here - so if anybody should have been jailed, I would vote for the postal inspector.
