I answered "Definitely." Same reasons already mentioned. But being adventuresome, if the price is right I'll occasionally still give a site with a screwed up preview just because I like the babe.
Deciding if the "price is right" is where I use the Supersized Big Mac
method. If the cost of a site is about what the price of a Supersized Big Mac is, I rationalize by paying for the site. It's better for my waistline and, who knows, I might catch a great site.
BTW, never happened. I've snagged a few good downloads but have never found a true sleeper this way.

No, I haven't.
But living in Porn Valley (West San Fernando Valley in LA) I have had a number of porn star sightings. Two recent ones. Sophie Dee about a month ago in a parking lot at a mall(really strange girl with a "flitty" personality but still great boobs@@) and Memphis Monroe about a week ago at a Starbucks at about 10:30am. Most "social conservatives" I know really don't have any interest in anything like this. The only efforts in the USA in the last 20-30 years have been to limit children's access to porn but not to stop porn altogether.
As for the .xxx, if it's voluntary, I'm good with it. But making it mandatory would create a definitional nightmare. No one can conclusively define porn.

Interesting question that caused me to reflect. I grew up way back when the only easily available porn consisted of magazines containing bare boobs and, in the racier magazines, airbrushed pubic areas. Esquire had discontinued its mild (even for then) celebration of the always appealing Esquire Girls about a decade before I got interested in girls.
Then when Playboy showed a modest touch of bush, my libido ramped up a lot.

My approach is a bit different. I'll never sign up for a multiple month deal for any site at any time without first signing up for a single test month.
I cancel after the month, even when I really like the site, to see if they will offer a "stay deal" at a lower price. I'd say about 50% of the time I can sign up for a monthly rate that is lower than a three month rate divided by 3.
MetArt has a unique approach that I went for. I signed up for a month at the regular rate. About three weeks in I checked out one of its promotional popups and was amazed to find that they would sell me a one year membership for $99 and would reduce the price for the amount I already paid for the monthly subscription.
While I'm primarily a video guy, I really like the quality of the photography and the babes so I grabbed the deal.
Where the "stay deal" doesn't happen, I'll occasionally take the plunge on a multi-month deal.
I did that with DDFProd at a deal ($74.95 for three months) then available on TBP/PU and was quite happy with the deal. I loved the site.
Then they pulled a stunt that really pissed me off. When the biller hit the automatic recurring renewal, it was just after the expiration date on my credit card so the charge was rejected. Rather than letting me know, they simply cancelled my membership. I became aware of the cancellation when I was blocked from logging in.
They told me that, if I wanted to restart my membership I would need to do so at the current rate, $44.95 per month.
Needless to say I simply said 4Q and moved on. I miss the site but not the lousy attitude about customer satisfaction these people displayed.

I have roughly 10 ranging from 80Gb to 2 Tb.
Basic problem is that I've had a few older ones that just stop working. No longer recognized by my OS when connecting yet no clicking or other telltale signs of trouble.
The server idea is a good one but I've been thinking about Carbonite - http://www.carbonite.com/en/. They claim they provide unlimited storage. I'm using it for business stuff but a separate account for porn storage might work. It requires transferring stuff back to an operating drive before viewing, but it seems like it would be a great way to store the stash without buying more hardware.

An ACCURATE search function is essential. Sites like VideoBox that are loaded with misspellings and frequently with no model identification frustrate the hell out of me.
With well over 10,000 DVDs a favorite performer is easily lost in the shuffle, and there's no easy way to find all performances by a favorite.

I also use VLC and find that all videos play equally well. I usually use WMV simply because it also plays well on WMP.
One exception is f4v. HD videos from Naughty America are in f4v format which does not play on VLC. Solution is to just change the extension from f4v to wmv and you're good to go.

I don't think I've signed up for any sites over the last 5 years that did not have some kind of deal.

There are some well done enhancements that can only be spotted by comparing before/after, but not very many.

Back in the day I created hundreds of dubbed over videotapes of scenes from rented videos. Cost? $2.99 per rental. 2 or 3 scenes copied per tape. Blank tapes cost $1.25 per and the dubs always lost fidelity because of the copy process.
Now I get much better definition, many more scenes and much more efficient storage processes.
CD's were not capable of being copied and too expensive to buy so I have very few in my stash.
The last CD I bought was about 3 years ago and was one I still have not found on the web.
