I said "sometimes". The real question is "How does the material look?" If the censoring makes the material look like redacted FBI documents, well, then I'm not going to find it so exciting. If the material looks awesome even with the censoring, then I might be further intrigued by the site.
The first membership I had to Nubiles.net, I found the site to be a let-down because the models looked bored to tears in many of their photo sets. They addressed that issue and their work now shows a high level of engagement from the models. I'm not saying that they should have a plastered-on smile in every photo - in fact, I feel like the model Aaliyah Love ruins a lot of her work by having the incessant huge grin. Any expression maintained at all times seems phony to me.
So while I can't say that a female adult model or porn babe needs to look like she is having the time of her life, I want to see her connecting with the experience and I don't want her to look like she's grimly bearing it.
Different sites have different set-ups. Some sites have forums where they are happy to hear about what material you particularly like, but will get rather irritated if you post about problems with the site. So then you've got a line drawn about "praise here - problems there". As Drooler says, ALS Scan is a unique site in that the owner/webmaster truly wants to hear from the site's members and will often respond directly and will encourage more direct feedback.
I've experienced a range of feedback from sites that I've had issues with and, overall, the surly/negative/crappy C/S/webmaster responses are in the minimum. Most sites that I've joined are smart enough to give at least decent C/S.
Given the state of the economy, I have to conclude that sites that don't give good C/S or give surly responses or flat-out lie about "it was your fault" are fucking idiots. They would have to be posting unbelievably arousing stuff to get me to join their sites again and sites that have fucking idiots as their C/S/webmasters rarely are.
hodayathink and tangub have it correct - If a site is being honest about the state of the updates and has a wealth of content, and a reasonable price, given the lack of updates, it can still be worth a join.
It's even more a crap shoot, though. A site that is no longer updating can have lots more broken link problems, etc, and if it's a site that the webmasters aren't paying any attention to, then any problems that you run into can be problems that nobody will care about resolving.
Who goes to the movies? Teenagers with money to spend and time on their hands, mainly. They're going to see movies with good special effects, they're going to see big dumb fun comedies and they're going to see horror movies. None of those 3 categories depend much on reviews. Reviews can help with smaller films, but not so much with big ones.
21st Sextury - I had no access at a point when I was on a 3-month automatic rebill sub. I e-mailed them, they told me - "Oh, we weren't able to bill your credit card, so your membership was cancelled." So after thinking about my options, I joined a different 21st Sextury package - when I got my next credit card bill, there was a charge for the original subscription - I e-mailed the person that had given me the initial incorrect info, was given a refund right away.
Mystique Magazine.com - notorious for putting out all kind of various deals involving life-time memberships and then rebilling. You have to do their book-keeping for them - it's not quite the same thing as a rebill after cancel - but damn, were they a pain in the butt to deal with - and not friendly either, after you had done the work to prove to them that they owed a refund - they'd get you the refund, but left you feeling like they really wanted to rip you off.
Private.com - Prior to the recent re-design, their site had a self-cancel thing, you got no e-mail confirmation after the site tells you that you have successfully cancelled your subscription, then they would rebill you, then they wouldn't respond to the first 10 e-mails or so, then by the time they DID respond, you would have been billed AGAIN, so you would still have been hit with one charge after you had cancelled - THIEVES!
I've joined a couple of sites on impulse, but most sites that I've joined, I'd thought about joining for a while - checked the tour for updates, checked out various sample sites, etc, checked reviews, etc.
The question is overall value. If there is a site that is $9.95 a month and doesn't draw me to it very often and another site that is $34.95/month that excites me every day that I'm a member, I'm not going to be a member of that $34.95/month site on an ongoing basis, most likely, but I'll rate it higher than the 9.95/month site that has little of interest for me, because - everything taken into account - the $34.95/month site is giving me a better value.
You got to be true to yourself when it comes to sex or you'll just feel like an asshole. I experimented years ago with bondage and "abusive" games and it wasn't enjoyable at all. On the other hand, nothing makes me happier than to do things that make a girl cum like crazy. Pussy-eating, fingering, stroking, massaging, fucking with condoms with odd bumps and ridges - they all get the kind of reactions that I really like getting.
Slapping and choking a sexual partner don't have the same appeal or deliver anywhere near the same thrill.
I'd gauge her mood - if I read her vibe as "leave me alone", I'd follow the path that Jay G describes. If I got a different vibe, I'd go over and say, "Hi" and offer to buy her a drink and chat a bit. I'm not into the autograph thing - I lose them anyway - and I never have a camera with me, but I'd enjoy chatting with her and find that memorable.
I'm very happy with my 23 inch monitor that I bought when Circuit City had their clearance. It makes a big difference - especially with cam shows, which I enjoy, because the small window is not so small anymore. Alex at ALS Scan recommended that if I really want to blow my mind, I'll buy a 30 inch monitor, which is what they all use there. Another web-master that I respect, James at Bryci.com, concurred with that. Maybe someday, I'm happy for right now.
I enjoy people at times, but I definitely need decompression time by myself to get over the social interaction - I get really worn out otherwise. My sister's the exact opposite. She can spend some time by herself but needs to be around people to re-charge.
This question is kind of like asking "where is the best sex being had?" Southern CA is certainly the center of the porn establishment in the US, but is that were the best stuff is being shot? I dunno. Adventurous film-makers tend to travel around. The Japanese porn scene continues to be huge and varied. Sites such as MetArt, Nubiles.net, Teen Dreams, Femjoy are getting their babes mainly from Eastern Europe, but a bunch from the US as well. Kink.com is going like blazes in the heart of the Mission District in SF.
ALS Scan is doing their stuff in the suburbs of MD - and then venturing elsewhere for more fun. ALS Scan lovers should be aware that Alex - and the participating girls - are RAVING about the Caribbean shoot they just did. Apparently the girls all got along with each other more than on any previous shoot and were all over each other sexually beyond previous shoots as a result (no "OK - time to do your scene with that girl you detest now").
I chose the 10-50 gig option. As RB said, with HD vid increasingly prevalent, it's rare that a vid that I want to dl is less than 1 gig - and though I'm not someone that joins a site to vacuum the contents as quickly as possible, and I like pics as much as, or more than, vids, if you download a few vids a day, it adds up quickly.
My ISP has a dl cap and they are supposed to be rolling out a "bandwidth usage meter" so I'll be able to see exactly what my usage is. That will be interesting - and increasingly difficult to stick to if the current trend of increasingly large vid files continues.
I suspect that we'll see all the extremes represented:
a) we'll have amateur sites whose updates will be pics and vids of every woman that came in the door and signed their model consent form
b) we'll have glamour sites where not a single inch of the model is as they actually looks in real life
c) we'll have tons of self-shot material - it will be one of the most popular ways for young women to earn money to pay for college, which will cost $100K/semester in 20 years
d) we'll have sites like Brazzers that will advertise with plastic surgeons they are associated with - and the sites will compete as to how much body manipulation can be done
e) we'll have virtual web-cam/lap-dance shows, which will be tremendously popular - giving adult men one other reason to not ever leave their computers
f) there will be numbers of brutal porn sites that have roving ISP's and members will have forums devoted to finding the current ISP's for the day to have access - it will be kind of like the early days of raves - only nastier
g) porn site ripoffs will be rampant - the mobs that currently traffic in credit cards will have moved into porn to a massive degree
h) we'll have alliances of web sites that used to be unique that will band together to ward off porn piracy and will have their own Standards & Practices Acts specifying 1) treatment of models, 2) treatment of customers, 3) levels of brutality
Actually, I'm probably making predictions for 5 years from now. It's difficult to predict 20 years out.
It depends on what's going on in the scene. If it's some pro-am type crap where the girl's having a difficult time getting the guy hard, those seconds tick by like minutes - so I'd prefer it to be really short - or non-existant.
John Stagliano has done hour-long scenes, starting with being outside walking around, then picking up on a girl and following her inside somewhere, then having some encounter that leads to the sex - with lots of tease and all kind of other explorations.
He's a good enough story-teller that he can make the whole thing interesting for that length of time.
Erik Everhard is someone else that likes to do lengthy scenes with an extended set-up, then lots of tease before the sex gets started - with a hot girl, that's a lot of fun to me.
The "only do scenes this way" outlook is not one that I share. If anything, I find myself frustrated by scenes with too-little tease rather than too much
Flaccid-cock endless blow-jobs are my biggest peaves when it comes to lengthy scenes, though the people I mentioned don't have that issue in their scenes.
It doesn't really matter to me. There have been porn performers that started out with an "I'll do anything" attitude and didn't enjoy where that got them, so they dialed it back to what they were comfortable with. Stephanie Swift decided to do a contract run early in her career with a company that would have her doing all kind of crazy stuff, then became a contract girl with Wicked, partly because she had grown her fan base by doing such awesome wild performances.
I leave it up to the performers. I don't agree with the "quit holding out on us" attitude by a lot of male porn fans toward adult performers that only do girl/girl or only do partial nudity or don't do anal.
The real question is - "Are they doing hot stuff?" There's a lot of lame porn out there and I believe that hotter porn is made by performers that are comfortable doing what they are doing - if that's non-nude and it's blistering hot - I'm happy with that. If it's only solo or girl/girl and it's blistering hot, I'm happy with that.
Performers should do what they are comfortable with and give their all when doing it - or they should do something else.
The whole Tiger Woods thing was good for a few lame jokes, but I didn't find any of his supposed conquests to be anything to make me jealous. I'd like to have his money, but his taste in women - eh - not interesting in the least.
I remember going to see Pumping Iron II - The Women and it was a kind of distubing thing because I loved Rachel McLish's bod, hated her personality, loved the personality of the intensely muscle-bound woman in the movie, wasn't at all attracted to her bod.
Some body builder women are very hot - like Misty Anderson - mmm
